SUMMARY:Access + Ability in the Arts\, Design & Technology- Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Access for all in the arts\nWith Japan hosting the Paralympic Games this year\, the world’s attention has been on disability. This exhibition highlights the people\, programmes and products that change how we think about access for all in the arts and everyday life. \nThe exhibition features British arts organisations Extant\, Graeae Theatre Company and Intoart and their recent interactions with Japan and collaborations with Japanese artists. \nCeramicist IWAMOTO Ikuko and architect YAMANAKA Akira\, both based in the UK\, show the importance of incorporating a broad-minded approach to design by explaining how their work has become more inclusive. \nIn a unique project with the Japanese Gallery Kensington to show the possibilities of reformatted art\, UCL Mechanical Engineering has transformed a woodblock print by artist KANEKO Kunio into 3D art. Visitors to the exhibition will also see how craftsman MIYABO Katsuyuki and inventor MIYAKE Seiichi have helped to improve the lives of disabled people.

They will be opening their studio throughout the weekend. \nAlongside the shopping\, eating\, drinking and dancing\, there’s a series of inspirational and educational talks for everyone to get involved with\, held in Bureau – a new members’ club for the creative industries at the heart of Design District. With one-to-one interviews and lively panel debates focusing on Creative freedom\, Culture\, Design and Community\, the free programme will keep you coming back for more all day long.\nNot only that\, but for the first time\, we’re extending our opening hours on Saturday 18th September until 10 pm\, for SAMPLE Lates\, with headline DJ’s providing the soundtrack to your evening whilst Design District Canteen serves up delicious food and drink. Please keep your eyes on our social channels for the latest updates and announcements.\n“Greenwich Peninsula puts the creative industries front and centre\, and the communities who live\, work and come to spend time on the Peninsula will forever inform and inspire our decision making. In the absence of buildings\, when Design District was still a dream\, we focused on delivering accessible art and culture programmes. SAMPLE is one of Greenwich Peninsula’s most loved seasonal events\, and merging long-time regular traders with our new hot-bed of tenants from within the Design District is an occasion to be celebrated – one not to be missed.”\nKerri Sibson\, Director\, Greenwich Peninsula \nEasily accessible by River Bus to North Greenwich Pier\, or the Jubilee line to North Greenwich\, SAMPLE is the perfect way to celebrate our newfound freedom and support our small businesses\, all showcased in a brilliantly designed outside location. \nSAMPLE is curated by Hemingway Design for Greenwich Peninsula. Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway started their careers in the fashion industry by reselling fashion on an unassuming Camden market stall which ultimately led them to launch their infamous fashion brand\, Red or Dead. \n“When we launched SAMPLE back in 2017\, we wanted to provide a unique and engaging line-up of design-led independent businesses to Greenwich Peninsula. The focus has always been on supporting independent creatives and providing them with an outlet and audience. Now with the launch of the Design District\, providing SAMPLE with its newly expanded home\, we can’t wait to curate this year’s SAMPLE Autumn\, which is penned to be our biggest and best yet; with a new food offering hosted by Design District Canteen\, more space to socialise with friends and\, of course\, a stellar line up of new and independent brands to explore.”\nWayne Hemingway\, Partner\, HemingwayDesign \n#SAMPLEAutumn

SUMMARY:SAMPLE - Urban Design Market at Greenwich Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:LONDON’S MOST LOVED URBAN DESIGN MARKET RETURNS THIS MAY.\nSAMPLE is back on 22nd May\, bringing together the ultimate curated mix of artisans from the worlds of food\, fashion\, homeware and beauty. Our community of creatives are much-loved across the Peninsula and we’re thrilled to be bringing them back together for SAMPLE this May\, prior to the launch of Design District later this year. \nGreenwich Peninsula has always been committed to supporting the creative industries and this past year has seen this need increase even further. SAMPLE is about providing a platform for emerging independents to showcase their individuality and attract design aware and sustainably focused shoppers. We launched our virtual marketplace in 2020\, to create a viable way to help drive revenue for these traders whilst physical doors were closed but now we can’t wait to bring this cohort of brands and businesses back together on Greenwich Peninsula this May . \nSAMPLE’s line-up includes everything from designer makers\, fashion\, food & drink and live music. Start your day with delicious small-batch coffee and delicious pastries\, whilst you peruse the breadth of emerging talent across womenswear\, menswear\, jewellery\, eyewear\, childrenswear and accessories on offer.\nFor lunch\, choose from our array of fresh produce including numerous street food stalls\, alongside multiple artisan store cupboard essentials\, cured meats\, cheeses and not forgetting our vegan friends\, we have plenty of plant-based options available too! Located opposite NOW Gallery and Design District\, on Peninsula Square\, we’ve taken care to ensure your safety at this year’s SAMPLE\, with plenty of socially-distanced seating\, more space to explore and sanitising points dotted around the market.\nSpend the afternoon\, soaking up the (hopeful) sunshine\, or chilling in the shade listening to our own in-house DJ playing whilst you check out all of our designer makers including print & textile designers\, urban gardening\, stationary\, pet accessories\, beauty and skincare.\nEasily accessible by River Bus to North Greenwich Pier\, or the Jubilee line to North Greenwich\, SAMPLE is the perfect way to celebrate our newfound freedom and support our small businesses\, all showcased in a brilliantly-designed outside location. \n“We have long supported the Creative Industries\, and the past year has amplified the need to genuinely nurture and celebrate creative talent to avoid losing the rich culture that London is so famous for. SAMPLE has always provided a platform for London’s emerging designer makers to reach a broad audience\, and the return of the market this May signals another step towards a more optimistic future where people can come together to celebrate community\, culture\, creativity and – above all – resilience. Later this year we’ll also be opening the doors to Design District\, bringing together more than 1\,800 creatives to collaborate\, build networks and rebuild their businesses in a purpose-built environment.’’\nKerri Sibson\, Marketing Director\, Knight Dragon \nSAMPLE is curated by Hemingway Design for Greenwich Peninsula. Wayne & Gerardine Hemingway started out their careers in the fashion industry by way of reselling fashion on an unassuming Camden market stall which ultimately led them to launch their infamous fashion brand\, Red or Dead. \n“This has been a year like no other\, and it’s been tough for the young HemingwayDesign events team who enjoy creating events that shine a spotlight on small independent businesses\, to see many of them unable to trade and interact with their customers. Thankfully many of our brilliant traders have found innovative ways to adapt and stay afloat but nothing beats physical interaction and experience with their customers\, so we are chuffed to be back and able to put these incredible businesses back in the spotlight. Come and see us\, you won’t be disappointed!”\nWayne Hemingway\, Partner\, HemingwayDesign \n#SAMPLESpring
