SUMMARY:The Laughing Boy - A New Play by Jack Harte
DESCRIPTION:Dublin 1963 and Brendan Behan’s song The Laughing Boy has become the inspirational anthem of the political Left in Greece. Alexandra\, a student and political activist\, has travelled here to seek out the writer of the song and invite him to Greece to boost the struggle for Socialism. \n\n\n\nHer search comes to an end in a Dublin pub but what she finds there is strange in the extreme. This is not the Brendan Behan she was expecting. In fact she is totally bewildered when two characters claim to be Brendan Behan\, each with a different take on the legendary writer. \n\n\n\nThe play draws on Jack Harte’s engagement with Greece. In 1974 he was there to witness the fall of the Military Junta\, and 40 years later he was back in Athens and discovered the huge impact of Brendan Behan’s song – The Laughing Boy. Jack had a play produced in one of Greece’s ancient amphitheatres. The Laughing Boy is an imaginative and absorbing tale of theatrical and political history.

SUMMARY:DreamState
DESCRIPTION:DreamState is a pop-up experience that invites visitors of all ages to discover interactive zones exploring themes from nostalgia and relaxation to celebration and creativity. The experience brings to life original work by 112 writers – all of whom are children based in Hackney aged between 6 and 15 who attend Ministry of Stories weekly community writing labs.  \n  \nDreamState features eight separate rooms\, with unique worlds tied to the stories written at the Ministry of Stories community writing labs. The space will include a banqueting hall featuring the written word as the meal; a serene zone to help visitors relax; a nostalgia filled locker room that evokes childhood memories; a celebration room filled with glitter and confetti where visitors can party with a neon leopard; an eerie room complete with a scariness scale so that guests can choose the level of spooky that they are comfortable with; a botanist workshop with strange new plants that people may have never encountered; the control room where the ideas stem from; and finally the ‘dream dream’ room\, which will ask visitors what dream they would most like to have tonight. \n  \nMinistry of Stories was co-founded by author Nick Hornby in 2010 and aims to champion the writer in every child. It helps young people in East London discover their confidence\, imagination and potential through the power of their writing. Working primarily with young children in Tower Hamlets\, Hackney and Islington\, the organisation has supported over 20\,000 young people in the local community since its launch through its free weekly community writing labs.  \n  \nMinistry of Stories is partnering with architecture and design studio make:good to bring to life DreamState. make:good works closely with local communities to shape neighbourhood change and support communities to create lasting social infrastructure. They have also partnered with Shoreditch Town Hall who will be hosting the experience at its basement venue\, The Ditch. \n  \nRob Smith\, Director\, Ministry of Stories said: “Ministry of Stories has been supporting local children and championing their writing for fifteen years and we are honoured to be presenting their work to the world in our most ambitious showcase to date. The children who take part in our community writing labs are imaginative\, fun and playful so there is no better way to show you their work than with DreamState. It will bring to life dreams\, memories and stories\, transporting guests to a world beyond their imagination. Stumble into a dream and discover strange new plants\, some ghostly shenanigans or a glitter party. DreamState will be an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.”

SUMMARY:FRAME / REFRAME: Zine Making & Inner Weather with Clare Macdonald
DESCRIPTION:Connect with your inner self through guided meditation\, writing\, drawing and zine- making. \nAs we gather in the juniper-infused IMT Gallery\, this workshop offers an opportunity to notice your inner weather and begin to reframe your stories through writing\, meditation\, and zine-making\, setting intentions for the days ahead. \nIn uncertain times\, we carry protective beliefs\, inherited narratives\, and quiet fears. But what happens when we pause to notice these internal frames—and begin to reframe them? \nFRAME / REFRAME is a group workshop that explores fear\, identity\, and perception through zine-making. In a reflective and supportive setting\, we’ll use writing prompts\, folding techniques\, and collage materials to each create an 8-page personal zine. \nNo prior experience in art or meditation is needed. This workshop offers a creative space for playful inquiry\, intuitive process\, and shared reflection. \nDrawing materials will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring any personal materials or collage elements that resonate with you to enrich your experience. \nA selection of herbal teas will be served throughout the evening. \nWhat We’ll Do: \n• We will begin with a guided meditation to check in with our inner state\n• Group writing prompts will help surface subconscious and conscious patterns • Learn to fold and assemble your own 8-page personal zine\n• Explore drawing\, collage\, and layering to express internal themes \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n• A collective reflection on what we have uncovered in the process \nThis workshop is open to all: artists\, writers\, deep feelers\, the zine-curious\, and anyone navigating emotional weather. No experience necessary. \nWhat You’ll Leave With: \n• A handmade 8-page zine capturing part of your inner landscape • A shared experience and creative reflection\n• A new way of seeing and shifting the stories we hold \nAbout Clare Macdonald: \nClare Macdonald is a filmmaker\, writer\, artist\, and educator whose work investigates perception\, language\, and inner states. With over a decade teaching and running workshops on the Architectural Association’s Foundation Course and Visiting Lecturer on the Screenwriting and Filmmaking MA programmes at London Film School\, Clare is a published poet and zine-maker\, member of the Zine You Next Tuesday collective formed from the Royal Drawing School’s Graphic Narratives course\, with three issues in circulation and a fourth forthcoming. \nReserve your spot for now for an evening of inspiration and connection. SUMMARY:Language & Chaos For Beginners: A Lab For New Writers
DESCRIPTION:A playful workshop for the creatively curious. In games of chance and memory excavation\, we’ll spark new language\, scenes\, and storylines. \nDate and time: \nThursday\, October 16 · 6 – 8pm GMT+1. Doors at 5:45pm \nLocation: \nThe Residence Gallery \n229 Victoria Park Road London E9 7HD \nAbout this event: \nDo you ever feel like creative writing is unfamiliar territory\, that your attempts at crafting prose are quickly cut short by self-doubt\, or that––when it comes to language and story––you’re stuck in frustrating patterns? \nThis class invites you into a space of experimentation—through games of chance\, memory excavation\, and playful dives into our own half-remembered myths\, we’ll spark the creation of new language\, scenes\, and storylines. It’s particularly well-suited to those from visual arts backgrounds\, offering intuitive\, image-driven approaches to language and story. We are interested in the emergent: the ideas and worlds which appear in us regardless of our own beliefs about our writing skill. By loosening our grip on outcome and leaning into surprise\, we’ll sidestep habitual thinking and discover unexpected access points into storytelling. \nIf you have no English literature background whatsoever\, you’ll feel right at home; no prior literary training is assumed or required. Our approach is accessible and unpretentious\, with an emphasis on creative exploration rather than jargon. \nOur focus is on generative practices—approaches that forge a way into writing when you feel stuck\, uninspired\, or unsure where to begin. Game objects like dice and tarot cards will help us invite random chance and ‘good chaos’ into our work\, encouraging surprise and spontaneity in the creative process. You’ll collect a range of practical tools to carry with you: ways to jumpstart new projects\, tap into unfamiliar voices\, re-enter stalled scenes\, and re-engage with memory. Curiosity will be our engine as we explore accessible\, repeatable methods designed to move us beyond creative ruts and into fresh terrain. \nYou might walk away with the beginnings of something new—a character\, a scene\, an idea—but the real goal is to give you an experience of writing that feels alive and personally meaningful. This is a space to write without pressure\, to get curious\, and to let your creative instincts lead the way \nWhat to Bring:\n– A notebook and pen (I strongly encourage this over a laptop\, but of course bring whatever tools meet your needs)\n– Things to make your seated area more comfortable\, like a pillow or a blanket\n– a coin\, a 6-sided dice\, and a tarot deck (only if you have them––we’ll have extras)\n– A favourite fairytale– no need for a physical copy\, just have one in mind! \nArianna Reiche is the author of Warden / Star (Tangerine Press) and At The End Of Every Day (Atria Books/Simon & Schuster)\, and has been praised by The New York Times for her ‘enormous gifts’. She was Founding Editor of The Wrong Quarterly\, and her short fiction has appeared in Ambit Magazine\, Joyland\, The Mechanics’ Institute Review\, Berlin’s SAND Journal\, Feels Blind Literary\, Lighthouse Press\, and Popshot. She’s written features for ArtNews\, New Scientist\, The London Fashion Week Daily\, Fest Magazine\, Vogue International\, and Vice. She teaches on City University’s creative writing MFA programme\, where she also carries out doctoral research on interactive narratives and metafiction\, with a focus on multimodal\, non-linear storytelling.

SUMMARY:Mountains Have Rules For A Reason
DESCRIPTION:A brand new horror play set to make it’s debute in London and Edinburgh\, which explored the dark fables from within the Appalachian mountains and applies them to a brand new story. \nThe Appalachian Mountains have rules for a reason\, but what happens when those rules are broken? \nWhen Christina’s grandfather retired he moved to the mountains in search of monsters\, now he has passed he’s left her a cabin in the woods to clear up\, a series of scribbled journals and a set of oddly specific rules. When friendships are questioned\, rules are broken and fable becomes all the more real and horrifying in this brand new horror play.
