SUMMARY:Gothic Opera presents: Rip Van Winkle
DESCRIPTION:Rip Van Winkle is an English-language operetta by Robert Planquette based on two stories by Washington Irving – Rip van Winkle and the famous Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The piece premiered at the Comedy Theatre in London in 1882\, running for around 300 performances – but although popular at the time\, it has not been seen in its English version since the nineteenth century. \n\n\n\nWith a cast of exceptional singers\, Gothic Opera will approach this charming piece with fresh eyes\, reinvigorating it with a new chamber arrangement and newly-written dialogue. \n\n\n\nAfter their success with their 2021 La Nonne Sanglante (The Bloody Nun)\, which won Best Opera Production at the Off-West End Awards 2022\, Gothic Opera are returning to the atmospheric Hoxton Hall this Halloween. Don’t miss it!

SUMMARY:London Mozart Players: Changing Seasons
DESCRIPTION:When Vivaldi wrote his Four Seasons in 1723\, the world was different. As nature continues to inspire art\, Vivaldi’s piece remains popular and still has a place in today’s society. But how do we respond when the world around us is changing? \nChanging Seasons is a new multi-genre spectacular from Croydon’s Resident Orchestra\, LMP\, created to reflect on the climate emergency and its impact on our future. This exciting production mixes Vivaldi’s classic with new commissions from four talented local arts groups. Working with professional composers Fiona Brice and Sarah Freestone\, four community groups – Club Soda\, Croydon Music & Arts\, Queer Croydon x Stanley Arts and Subrang Arts – will perform their unique pieces which the seasonal themes have inspired in Vivaldi’s music. These new works respond to our changing world\, creating a fusion of genres and artforms culminating in a spectacular performance at Fairfield Halls. \nComplete with new poetry\, dance performances and engaging video content to introduce each artist; Changing Seasons is an accessible and proudly Croydon-made performance suitable for audiences of all ages. \nAs part of this event\, LMP is hosting a FREE afternoon showcase in the public open spaces of Fairfield Halls\, featuring local talent from over 30 music and dance groups.

SUMMARY:London Ragas Fusion: Flute\, Piano\, Tabla & Ghatam in Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:This November\, London welcomes a truly special evening of Indian Classical Music at Duke Hall\, Royal Academy of Music. On 15th November\, London Ragas Fusion brings together four celebrated maestros\, each carrying a world of tradition and innovation in their art. \nAt the heart of the performance is Pandit Ajay Prasanna\, three-time Grammy-nominated flautist and one of India’s leading bansuri exponents. His music carries both lyrical serenity and creative brilliance\, a sound that has travelled across continents and genres. Alongside him is Shahbaz Hussain. A renowned and accomplished tabla virtuoso\, Shahbaz is considered one of Europe’s finest players\, known for his dynamic and intricate performances in Indian classical music and fusion projects. \nThey are joined by pianist Rekesh Chauhan\, an award-winning pianist renowned for seamlessly blending Indian Classical Music with Western instruments\, and RN Prakash\, a master of the South Indian Ghatam whose earthy\, clay-pot rhythms bring texture and vitality to the ensemble. Together\, these four artists create a confluence of sound where North and South India meet\, and East and West flow into harmony. \nBut this evening is more than music; it is also an invitation to pause\, reflect\, and experience the healing resonance of sound. For centuries\, Indian classical traditions have regarded music as a form of meditation\, a means of restoring balance within ourselves and within our communities. In today’s world\, these timeless practices remind us of the profound connection between music\, mental health\, mindfulness\, and emotional well-being. \nAs the bansuri breathes\, the piano sings\, the tabla speaks\, and the ghatam pulses\, the hall will transform into a sanctuary of rhythm and melody. Whether you are a long-time listener of Indian classical music or discovering it for the first time\, this evening offers not just performance but renewal—a chance to feel uplifted\, connected\, and restored through the universal language of music. \nDoors open at 7:00 PM\, with music starting promptly at 7:30 PM. \nAudience Policy: \n\nUnauthorised filming or photography is not permitted.\nThe use of mobile phones (including texting and silent mode) is not allowed during the event. We kindly ask for your cooperation. Thank you!

SUMMARY:Music and Malady
DESCRIPTION:Following the enthusiasm for our evening of ‘900 Years of Music and Medicine’ in June 2023\, just before the closure of the Great Hall for renovation and conservation\, we are holding a further medical themed evening – ‘More Music and Malady’. This will celebrate the re-opening of the North Wing\, with a miscellany of music about lithotomy\, doctors and illnesses – both real and imagined – including music from Couperin to G&S\, Purcell to Cole Porter\, Bernstein to Beethoven.\n\nThe programme begins with the founding of the hospital and explores eye watering 18th century surgical procedures – with original instruments! You’ll hear about a range of ailments of mind and body contracted through love – and some possible remedies from some rather dodgy doctors. You’ll find that the doctor-patient relationship may go beyond what is considered proper. And finally we will leave you with part of Beethoven’s Op132 – a thanksgiving for restored heath and healing. The narrative will be woven together and subverted in equal measure by CMF Patron Simon Callow and BBC Radio 3 presenter Donald Macleod.\n\n\nPerformers include Claire Ward\, soprano\, George Robarts\, baritone\, Ed Picton Turbervill\, piano\, Nathaniel Mander\, harpsichord\, James Larter\, percussion\, members of the Paddington Trio\, and other CMF artists.\n\n‘More Music and Malady’ will be presented on Tuesday 25th November\, in Barts Great Hall in the North Wing of Barts Hospital\, at 7pm. Seating will\, like last time\, be arranged in small tables of 4.
