SUMMARY:The Choicest Music of the Kingdom\, by Harry Christophers and The Sixteen
DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed choir The Sixteen\, led by Harry Christophers CBE\, present an exclusive programme of Elizabethan and Jacobean choral works\, spanning the life of Richard Burbage (1567-1619) – the most illustrious actor of his age. \nThe programme will be interspersed with stories of everyday London\, from Shakespeare and his players to the groundlings of The Theatre and the Monarch herself\, as actors deliver a true celebration of Elizabethan London. \nThis extraordinary evening of drama and song will be performed in the atmospheric surroundings of St Leonard’s Church\, Shoreditch\, where the Burbages and several of the Lord Chamberlain’s Men are buried. \nThe Sixteen’s programme will include works by Byrd\, Morley\, Gibbons\, Weelkes and Ramsey. \nThis is an unmissable\, site-specific event that marks the 400th anniversary of Burbage’s death and the 40th anniversary of the founding of The Sixteen. \nPart of Shake It Up! A Shakespeare Festival for Shoreditch\, presented by The Theatre Courtyard Gallery.

SUMMARY:Mozart Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Remembrance Sunday at St John’s Smith Square\nMozart Requiem\nand Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola \nTwo great soloists join forces in the first half of the concert to perform Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. “It is a magical work\, with a divine first movement\, rhapsodic in places and with beautiful interplay between violin and viola. The slow movement is very profound and this is offset by a terrific final movement which leaves everyone feeling elated!” (Tasmin Little\, violin) “Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante remains one of my favourite concertos to perform… The concerto is unquestionably one of Mozart’s finest. Few would argue that the slow movement contains some of the most exquisite melodies and harmony\, and the interplay and artistry afforded to the soloists in the outer movements is both mesmerising and absorbing.” (Philip Dukes\, viola) \nThe second half of the concert features Mozart’s Requiem\, sung by the Locrian Singers\, a 20-strong professional choir. Shared amongst the full choir and four soloists\, the music moves between imposing\, grand gestures and heartfelt intimacy. The Requiem encompasses the fears of death and judgement\, the sorrow of separation\, yet with a journey towards peacefulness and reconciliation – an appropriate conclusion for Remembrance Sunday. \nThe concert also includes Handel’s Zadok the Priest. \nRimma Sushanskaya conducts the National Symphony Orchestra (leader: Rita Manning)\n‘ …fine playing exudes a sense of music-making of rare excellence\, fully up to the stature of the music … This is genuine music-making by wholly experienced professionals seeking to impart their love of great music’ (Robert Matthew-Walker\, Classical Source)

SUMMARY:Ave Eva: An Exploration of Idealised Femininity and the Virgin
DESCRIPTION:Hail\, nobly born\, hail\, honoured and inviolate\, you Maiden are the piercing gaze of chastity…’ \nThis concert series will explore the Virgin Mary in the context of Christian and Classical concepts of femininity\, virginity\, chastity\, and the heavenly ideal of perfect ‘womanhood’. How has the idea of the infallible Virgin been used to pit women against other women? How have women subverted this rhetoric historically\, and how do we do it today? \nMusic from Hildegard to Verdi will explore celebrations of the Virgin in different contexts\, while fragments of Sappho and erotic portraits of Venus consider womanhood and sexuality in a Classical setting. Weaving away from the idealised femininity of the Virgin\, we will consider the experiences of historical women\, bringing new life to Anne Boleyn’s last words\, relating the exciting legend of St Frideswide\, and performing Monteverdi’s complex depiction of Poppea\, the ill-fated wife of Emperor Nero. The concert will end far away from the realm of the heavenly Virgin with excerpts from Monteverdi’s Ballo delle ingrate\, which addresses the women in the audience with a stark warning… \n‘…You ladies would have been happy had fate made you less cruel and inhuman\, or less graceful and beautiful: poor wretches\, o poor wretches!’ \nFeaturing works by Britten\, Strozzi\, Gjeilo\, Guerrero and Verdi\, amongst many more (full programme to be published in coming weeks). \nWe’d love to see you there – and please join us in the pub after the concert to keep the conversation flowing. \nDecember 16\, 7.30 pm – Church of the Immaculate Conception\, Farm Street\nDecember 17\, 8 pm- St Cuthbert’s\, Earl’s Court \nTickets available online (on our website\, www.korriganconsort.com or eventbrite) or on the door. £15/£10 (under 26)

SUMMARY:Summer Rooftop Party with London City Voices
DESCRIPTION:Rooftop Party – Come and enjoy a fantastic view over London while you listen to the London City Voices choir perform their Summer Concert 2021. Then… PARTY!\nLondon City Voices have been used to entertaining people every few months with a mega-concert. The pandemic forced them online\, but they’re back in person to wow you with another blinding set of pop music\, including an epic Rock Mashup\, some Britney\, some Fountains of Wayne\, some Little Mix\, Erasure\, Elvis\, a Musicals Mashup and more. \nThey’ll be performing two sets of music\, between and after which you can chill out\, eat and drink\, chat\, play games or enjoy the view while you sip on a Prosecco. \nThe event will officially end at 5 pm\, at which point it’s open to the public (on a strictly “one out\, one in” capacity if they’re full)\, but with your ticket\, you can stay around until Skylight closes at 11 pm. \nLondon City Voices is a non-audition choir with three London branches and an online one. They’re always happy to take new members\, so do get in touch if you’re interested. Also\, check out our Disco Mashup for an idea of how amazing we sound. \nHire Choirs for Events in London

SUMMARY:SMILE TRAIN'S BIG SMILE CAROL CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:The world’s largest cleft charity\, Smile Train\, is excited to announce that after two years of virtual carol singing\, it will be returning to an in-person event to kickstart the festive season – and everyone is invited! \nOn Thursday 8th December at 7pm\, Smile Train will be hosting ‘The Big Smile Carol Concert’ at The Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair\, London\, as seen in the classic Christmas film\, Love Actually. \nThe concert will feature festive performances from the Choir of Grosvenor Chapel for guests to sing along to\, and seasonal messages from the Smile Train UK team\, including Smile Train UK Director\, Ian Vallance. \nAlong with the carols\, there will also be special virtual performances by Smile Train children’s choirs from around the world. Smile Train Choirs form part of our speech therapy aftercare programme but have grown into so much more. Our Choirs provide a place where cleft-affected children thrive and are given the confidence to use their voice and speak up. When a child who once struggled to speak is empowered to sing in public\, they soon come to believe they can achieve anything. Smile Train Choirs from Columbia and Argentina will be singing their hearts out for ‘The Big Smile Carol Concert’. \nBut wait\, there’s myrrh! Refreshments – including mulled wine and mince pies – will be available for guests to enjoy. \nThe concert is free to attend\, but any donations generously given on the night will allow Smile Train to continue providing free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children born with cleft globally – and help them to continue to change the world one smile at a time. \nThe Big Smile Carol Concert will be taking place on 8th December 2022\, 7pm – 9pm. \nTo RSVP\, visit: smiletrain.org.uk/carols

SUMMARY:Will Todd - Mass in Blue (20th anniversary performance) & Anton Bruckner - Mass in E Minor
DESCRIPTION:It is twenty-one years since David Temple MBE and Hertfordshire Chorus commissioned Will Todd to write a jazz-style mass and twenty years since the first performance of Jazz Mass\, later renamed Mass in Blue. With its upbeat jazz setting of the Latin mass\, it became one of the most successful commissions in modern choral music. Mass in Blue has been sung by hundreds of choirs worldwide\, often accompanied by Will and his band. \n\n\n\nTo celebrate the twentieth anniversary\, we are reuniting with Will on piano\, accompanied by his ensemble and soprano soloist. A party not to be missed! \n\n\n\nWe pair this with Bruckner’s ground-breaking Mass in E Minor. Unlike any other 19th-century liturgical music\, it was written solely for wind band and eight-part choir. It combines the devout simplicity of expression of Italian Renaissance polyphony with Bruckner’s expressive harmonies\, using powerful combinations and contrasts of vocal and instrumental texture to create one of his finest works.
