SUMMARY:The Borgen Project - Informational Event
DESCRIPTION:This informational event offers an introduction to The Borgen Project\, a non-partisan international organisation dedicated to reducing global poverty through policy advocacy\, public engagement\, and citizen-led action. The session is designed for students\, young professionals\, and members of the public who are interested in global development\, international affairs\, and the role of advocacy in shaping effective public policy. \n\n\nGlobal poverty remains one of the most pressing challenges of our time. Despite decades of progress\, conflict\, climate change\, economic instability\, and reductions in development assistance continue to threaten vulnerable populations worldwide. This event aims to provide clear\, accessible insight into how global poverty is addressed at the policy level\, and why political engagement remains a critical tool in achieving long-term\, sustainable solutions. \n\n\nDuring the session\, attendees will be introduced to the mission and activities of The Borgen Project\, with an overview of how the organisation engages with the public on issues related to global poverty and international development. The presentation will outline the relationship between policy decisions and development outcomes\, including how government priorities and public engagement can shape approaches to poverty reduction\, food security\, health\, and education. The focus will be on explaining these dynamics clearly and accessibly\, rather than advocating for a specific political position. \n\n\nThe event will also offer an overview of current global development issues\, including the impact of cuts to overseas development assistance\, the links between poverty and global security\, and the growing role of youth engagement in international policy discussions. Rather than focusing on abstract concepts\, the session will highlight real-world examples of how advocacy efforts have contributed to measurable policy outcomes in recent years. \n\n\nThis is an informational and discussion-focused event. It does not require prior knowledge of global development or policy\, and is intended to be accessible to anyone with an interest in international issues and social impact. There will be time for questions\, allowing participants to engage directly with the topics presented and to better understand how individual actions can contribute to broader policy change. \n\n\nAttendance is open to all\, and the event is suitable for those curious about global poverty\, advocacy\, and international development\, as well as for those considering further involvement in civic engagement\, NGOs\, or policy-related careers. While the session introduces opportunities for engagement\, its primary aim is to inform and raise awareness\, rather than to fundraise or promote a specific campaign. \n\n\nBy the end of the event\, participants will have a clearer understanding of how global poverty is addressed through policy\, the role organisations like The Borgen Project play in advocacy efforts\, and the ways in which informed citizens can participate meaningfully in shaping development outcomes.

SUMMARY:Magical Candlelit Christmas Concert 2025
DESCRIPTION:It has always been a star-studded evening. Last year\, we had readings from Lyse Doucet CM OBE\, award-winning Chief International Correspondent and Senior Presenter for BBC World News television and radio\, and our wonderful Patron\, the Lord Cope of Berkeley PC. Soprano Bibi Heal and Stephen Barlow entertained us with stunning solos. In 2023\, our Patron\, Dame Joanna Lumley\, joined us as a Guest Reader! \nWe are delighted that Thames Fanfare Brass will raise the roof again this year. What would a Christmas Concert be without a Trumpet Fanfare?! The angelic voices of the Queen’s Gate School Choirs will fill the church with gorgeous songs\, wonderful harp music by Lesley Magee\, and plenty of favourite Christmas Carols\, too! More Guests to be announced soon. \nWe look forward to welcoming you again in 2025 for the most magical start to the Festive Season. Every penny raised in profit will help Kids for Kids provide essentials to Darfur children in desperate need. The violence over the past 23 months has been far worse than anything we have experienced over the years. Darfur continues to face bitter conflict\, and the indirect effects of violence are almost worse: disease\, starvation and hunger in this century. We provide sacks of seed for planting and Kids’ Kitchen Kits for families with small children\, including pulses\, lentils\, powdered meat\, ground nuts and even fresh produce. Children have been deprived of protein for months. By attending our Candlelit Christmas Concert\, you will enable us to reach many more families. They need you\, need us\, right now. \nThe concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by Mulled Wine and Mince Pies (included in your ticket). It’s the perfect way to start Christmas Carols by Candlelight.

Delicious refreshments will be provided throughout the day\, from homemade cakes to lunch with wine and beer. \nWe look forward to welcoming you all – beginners and experienced fisherman alike! \nThis Fly Fishing Day is one of the most special Fishing opportunities you can be part of because every penny raised in profit will help Kids for Kids provide basic essentials to children in Darfur who are in desperate need. To date 4\,000 families with children aged five and under have received seeds to eat and to plant for crops – that is 24\,000 people we have helped so far. Yet we must think of the coming months\, not just of immediate needs. Please do put our Fly Fishing in your calendar and tell your friends – make a day of it! Your help in raising essential funds for food this year is invaluable. Thank you.” – Patricia Parker\, OBE Founder. \nN.B. Children (minimum age 10) must be accompanied by a fully paying adult. Because of the limited space on the banks\, children also have to pay full price. The first fish you catch will be yours to keep! There will be a small charge for any additional fish you wish to take home. Sunglasses or glasses and brimmed hats or caps must be worn by everyone. Health and safety is our first concern but you are advised to fish at your own risk.

We want to make The Farm accessible to all by bringing some of our animals for a fun day out in Covent Garden and invite all families\, residents\, local workers and visitors to London to our wonderful Family Farm Day. Everyone is welcome! \nAs part of the event you can enjoy petting our goats\, sheep and alpacas\, have snuggles in the Cuddle Corner with our rabbits and guinea pigs\, learn how to make musical instruments from vegetables hosted by London Vegetable Orchestra\, take part in our super fun educational workshops\, have your face painted\, relax during story time sessions\, cool down with a farm themed cocktail or mocktail\, watch our spinners spin yarn from our farm animals wool\, pick up a treat from The Farm Shop\, make the most of the photo ops… and much more! \nEntry to the event is free with a suggested donation to The Farms £250\,000 Anniversary Appeal; as a small education charity any donation means a great deal to us. Many of the activities and workshops at the event are free to enjoy\, and some have a fee to take part. \nThis event is proudly supported by City of Westminster.

SUMMARY:The Pioneering Pensioners
DESCRIPTION:Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders are now officially pensioners\, with Saunders in his early 70s and Fowler in his late 60s. Despite being at a point in life when most people are hanging up their boots\, the pair are still as excited as ever for exploratory climbing. \nIn 2024\, the pair travelled to the Pakistani Karakoram where\, over seven days\, they made the first ascent of the spectacular Yawash Sar (6258m)\, a beautiful peak sometimes referred to as “the Matterhorn of the Khunjerab.” \nEven more impressively\, Fowler\, a cancer survivor\, made the climb (which included a night spent hanging from the side of the mountain in their harnesses) while wearing a colostomy bag. \nFor one night only\, they join us at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) to discuss their latest climb\, their enduring partnerhsip and their future plans (because they aren’t stopping yet!)
