SUMMARY:The Friends of Holland Park Art Exhibition 2026
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, The Friends of Holland Park once again turns the Orangery at the heart of the park into an art gallery. \nFor more than forty years\, Friends who are artists and artists who become Friends have come together to show and sell their artwork. The colourful presentation of works by more than 80 predominantly local artists ranges from greeting cards and small prints to large paintings\, from pieces of jewellery to ceramics and sculpture \nA jury led by curator and artist Gordon French awards cash prizes for artistic excellence in several categories as well as for work that best expresses the Spirit of Holland Park. Visitors can support The Friends of Holland Park by buying a work from the exhibition or by entering the raffle for one of the tempting prizes donated by local businesses. \nEvery year\, one artist is offered a dedicated feature wall for a more extensive presentation. This year\, The Friends invited Gordon French to provide a mini-retrospective of his own creative practice to thank him and his family for organising the art exhibition for the past 12 years. \nThe concept of holding an art show at the heart of Holland Park was introduced by Christopher Wood and the late Sir Hugh Casson\, renowned architect and former President of the Royal Academy\, during their respective tenures as Chairman and President of the Friends of Holland Park. \nWorking in close liaison with the local borough and park staff\, The Friends of Holland Park is a local community group dedicated to the preservation\, protection and improvement of Holland Park as a place of historic and ecological interest and beauty. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by The Ilchester Estates\, which is fitting as the Ilchester family were the last private owners of Holland House.

SUMMARY:RECOLLECT - Anna Bingham & Annamarie Dzendrowskyj
DESCRIPTION:Recollect combines two solo presentations under one roof\, with Anna Bingham and Annamarie Dzendrowskyj sharing the unique exhibition space of a sensitively restored Georgian building. The artists respond to the exposed walls at One Paved Court that hold memories of the building’s past with individual contemplations on our intrinsic connection to our environment. \nAnna Bingham describes her ceramics as holding spaces for memories of place. As they grow and change throughout the making process\, the vessels themselves become metaphors for the interplay of fragility and strength. Whether sketched and planned or spontaneously assembled\, with the plants that inspired them evident or abstracted\, Bingham reflects on the perennial cycle of life both in sculpture and in painting. \nAnnamarie Dzendrowskyj’s practice is centred on capturing fleeting moments between presence and absence. Her current body of work is based on photographs she took in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area shortly after much of it was destroyed by bushfires\, highlighting both the beauty and precarity of the Australian landscape. An interpretation\, rather than a reproduction\, her paintings explore the interplay of darkness and light to highlight that one cannot exist without the other. \nWith Annamarie Dzendrowskyj drawing inspiration from ancient landscapes existing despite human intervention\, and Anna Bingham’s work highlighting the benefit of gardens and green spaces on human wellbeing\, Recollect serves as a reminder of the interdependence between humans and nature. \n  \nRecollect is part of a series of exhibitions hosted by White Noise Projects\, a group of emerging and mid-career artists who showcase meticulously chosen artworks through a series of group and solo exhibitions. \nEstablished in 2017 by mixed media artist Hanna ten Doornkaat and painter Annamarie Dzendrowskyj the collective curates exhibitions centred around themes pertinent to contemporary artistic practice\, and in response to exhibition spaces that surpass the idea of the white cube.

SUMMARY:Turning Earth Summer Solstice Social
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Turning Earth invites you to mark the longest day of the year with an unforgettable celebration of creativity\, connection\, and craft. On Saturday\, 21st June 2025\, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM\, Turning Earth Leyton will host the Summer Solstice Social — a vibrant\, hands-on event open to studio members\, students past and present\, and the general public. \nHeld in honour of the Summer Solstice\, a day traditionally associated with abundance\, growth\, and renewal\, the event celebrates the ancient art of pottery and its power to bring people together. Whether you have some previous experience or you are a complete beginner\, you’ll find something to spark your creativity and enjoy the day.  \nThe day’s programme includes: \n\nHandbuilding workshops (ticketed\, 11 AM and 1 PM): in Sweden\, there’s a very sweet tradition on Midsummer Night\, to pick 7 flowers from 7 meadows\, put them under your pillow while you sleep\, and supposedly you’ll dream about the person you’ll marry. To celebrate this tradition with us\, our lovely Swedish Hanna will guide you to sculpt some wonderful flowers.\nLive Raku-style pottery firings (ticketed\, 11.30 AM and 1.30 PM): you will glaze some of our pre-made vases with special Raku glazes\, then you will assist the exciting and fiery firing. By the end of the session\, your piece will be ready to be taken home.\nThrowing drop-in sessions (free): if you have never tried pottery before\, this is your chance to have a go on the pottery wheel and feel the clay under your hands (and realise how mistakenly simple it seems!)\nA ‘potter’s dream’ raffle (ticketed): with goodie bags of the value £150-£220 from our sponsors Potclays\, Hartley & Noble\, and Glost Glaze. You just need to try your luck!\nA communal pot: one single big community pot\, to which any guest can contribute to with coils and decorations\, helping us create a keepsake of the event\, to be permanently displayed in the studio.\nLive music and drinks throughout the day\, from bubbles to the craft beer of the local Neckstamper. Our neighbour Pavilion Bakery will also be open for some sweet or savoury treats.\n\nThe sculpting and Raku firing workshops are expected to fill quickly\, so early booking is recommended.

SUMMARY:Turning Earth Hoxton Spring Market
DESCRIPTION:A new year\, a new market! Turning Earth’s Ceramics Market is back at the Hoxton studio on the weekend of March 22nd and 23rd. With 80 talented makers (different each day) showcasing their handmade pottery\, you’ll discover an array of beautifully crafted\, one-of-a-kind pieces. With Mother’s Day just around the corner\, it’s the ideal opportunity to pick up something special. \nThroughout the weekend\, you’ll be treated to live performances by Jimm\, from the Jazz Cannibals\, whose eclectic sound blends jazz\, rap\, trad\, folk\, reggae\, sea shanty\, punk\, and funk—an unmissable soundtrack to your market experience. \nFeeling peckish? Sourdough Daali\, a micro-bakery and street food pop-up\, will be serving up wood-fired sourdough pizzas alongside irresistible treats like cardamom banana bread and brown butter flapjacks. Meanwhile\, Climpson & Sons will be on hand with expertly brewed barista coffee\, soft drinks\, and their signature Espresso Martini. \nSunday\, March 23rd\, brings an extra special guest – Victor Ng\, one of the participants of the current edition of The Great Pottery Throw Down. He’ll be showcasing and selling his work\, and if you’re lucky\, he might share some behind-the-scenes stories from the show\, including his proudest (and most disastrous) moments—like the time he built and decorated a boat… only for it to explode in the kiln! Originally from Canada\, Victor discovered Turning Earth Hoxton after moving to London in 2021 and has been a dedicated maker ever since\, with a passion for throwing delightfully wacky vases. \nAlso joining us on Sunday are some of the East End Trades Guild makers\, an alliance of 300 independent East London businesses and self-employed artisans (including Turning Earth). Their presence brings a diverse range of handmade goods beyond ceramics\, all created with the same care and craftsmanship. The EETG works to protect and sustain local businesses\, ensuring that London’s creative community continues to thrive.

SUMMARY:Theatrical Ceramics & Sculptural String
DESCRIPTION:In an unlikely collaboration\, Essex-born award winning ceramicist David Millidge and Brighton’s own alternative goth sculptor Sam Jacobs\, unite their contrasting art forms to create a cohesive experience that is both theatrical and tactile. \nMillidge\, known for his distinctive figurative ceramic sculptures\, offers his new works ‘The Precious Orbs Collection’ a glimpse into a world where each unique\, handmade ceramic sculpture boasts intricate patterns and forms\, inviting viewers to ponder the delicate balance between beauty and functionality. \nSam challenges perceptions with her self-supporting sculptures crafted from string and rope through macramé and fisherman’s knotting techniques. Her works are a testament to the strength found in vulnerability\, reflecting her personal journey and the environment that shapes her.

SUMMARY:In A Field By A Bridge FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:A brand new and unique (free) London festival launches this July. \n\n\n\nSummer 2023 sees the launch of ‘In a Field by a Bridge’\, a weekend festival with a  unique backdrop. In a community park beside an international landmark\, this event inspires sustainable living and celebrates community action. \n\n\n\nFrom when the sun sits high over Tower Bridge until the last pink rays disappear behind London Bridge\, on grassy fields next to the Thames\, this free festival showcases the juxtaposition of incredible London landmarks alongside cityscape\, nature and one of the world’s great rivers. \n\n\n\nCelebrating everything that Potters Fields Park and the London Bridge neighbourhood have to offer; merging green spaces\, evocative history\, wonderful architecture\, a diverse residential community\, and thriving businesses – this is one of London’s most culturally innovative\, sustainable and exciting districts. In a Field by a Bridge is the first opportunity to showcase what London Bridge has to offer as a leading environmentally-focused business district\, highlighting the transition to a carbon-neutral economy\, low-impact living and healthy lifestyles. The impact of this festival on the local community is aimed to create positive social and economic longevity far beyond this launch weekend. \n\n\n\n“Great festivals have meaning and a purpose  and  a team that means it\, and if you can add an amazing location\, then BINGO!\, In a Field by a Bridge has the aim to be an exemplary sustainable festival and in Team London Bridge\, a festival funder that “means it”.  \n\n\n\nThe location is nothing short of spectacular. Potters Fields is a beautifully maintained public green space overlooking the Thames and with views to the adjacent Tower Bridge\, London Bridge\, and The Tower of London. Across Tooley Street\, the festival’s second green space  St. John’s Churchyard\, is a wonderful community park that will play host to the Beyond Food-led “Feast in a Field“ initiative\, where local “legends in their own kitchen” will allow Londoners and visitors from all around the UK and the world to get a taste of delicacies that thus far only their families have been able to enjoy. \n\n\n\nWe are aiming to make In a Field by a Bridge a  must-attend annual event.  I would ensure you can  say you were there at that first one in July 2023 !” \n\n\n\nWayne Hemingway\, HemingwayDesign \n\n\n\nThis free festival aims to enable and encourage education and action on greener living through creative programming. It’s jam-packed with an incredible showcase of live performances\, interactive workshops\, film screenings\, architectural tours\, activities for all the family\, and more. \n\n\n\nThe full programme coming soon\, but here’s a sneak peek for now…. \n\n\n\n\nKeith Brymer Jones and Clayground mass participatory clay workshop celebrating the history of pottery-making in the area\n\n\n\nSocial Enterprise Beyond Food Community Feast in a Field\n\n\n\nProgramme of workshops\, talks & walks curated by London National Park City and its network of park rangers\n\n\n\nTopical talks programme with headline panellists\n\n\n\nLocal businesses & resident involvement\n\n\n\nFilm screenings\n\n\n\nSuitcase Sale\n\n\n\nDesigners and makers market\n\n\n\nStreet food & drink\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\nMusic & Entertainment on a pedal-powered stage.\n\n\n\n\n——————————– \n\n\n\nFor a number of years\, the London Bridge community has been addressing global problems with local commitments. Matching the ambition of Southwark Council and the Mayor of London\, local businesses have committed to a first-of-its-kind route map with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and dramatically decreasing the 130\,000 tonnes of CO2e they produce annually – an output equivalent to powering 25\,295 homes a year. In a Field by a Bridge will highlight ways we can collectively and individually decarbonise and instil new ideas for low-carbon living into our daily routines.  \n\n\n\n“In a Field by a Bridge will mark the start of the summer for many of us. Alongside HemingwayDesign\, we have curated two days of riverside festivities for the curious\, creative and conscientious who just like to have a good time! Everything has been planned with sustainability in mind.  Come along and discover Feast in a Field – our community cookout\, experience making ceramics with Keith Brymer Jones of BBC2’s The Great Pottery Throw Down\, and find a pre-loved bargain at the massive suitcase sale along the Thames. We hope to see In a Field By a Bridge become a regular fixture on London’s cultural calendar for many years.”   \n\n\n\nEllie Beedham\, Director of Arts\, Team London Bridge \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n“Access to green space and nature has never been more important to our busy urban lives. With our award-winning parks\, commitment to sustainability\, passion for our area and pride in our community\, we’re excited to host the first In a Field by a Bridge festival.  We can’t wait to share two days of fun and inspiring activities with visitors from around the world and the corner.” \n\n\n\nSheila Benjamin\, Chief Executive of Potters Fields Park Management Trust \n\n\n\n“I am pleased and excited to be involved in this community event ‘In a Field by a Bridge’. It brings together the history of Potters Field on the banks of the Thames in the heart of London whilst creating an event that is accessible to the local community and beyond. Bringing historic places back to life through creativity is arguably the best way to highlight our past and recognise its significance for future generations.“ \n\n\n\nKeith Brymer Jones\, ceramics and homeware designer.  \n\n\n\n“We’re incredibly excited to be curating the London National Park City Zone at the first ever In A Field By A Bridge festival this summer\, not least because it coincides with the 4th anniversary of London becoming the world’s first National Park City. There will be events and activities galore\, all celebrating urban nature and the outdoors\, and we can’t wait to see you all there.” \n\n\n\nMark Cridge\, Executive Director\, London National Park City \n\n\n\n“Beyond Food Foundation and Brigade Bar+Kitchen have been in The Fire Station on Tooley Street for over a decade. Brigade is a social enterprise restaurant that cooks with live fire and smokes produce on site. Beyond Food is a charity that has helped over 7000 individuals whose lives have unravelled to regain confidence and independence. We have also supported over 2000 people to gain professional skills\, which have taken many to work in the hospitality industry. We are delighted to be involved in the community-focused event ‘In a Field by a Bridge’\, helping us to support and engage in our local community\, placing a spotlight on the work of our charity.” \n\n\n\nJo Littman\, Beyond Food \n\n\n\n“It was an enticing invitation from Wayne Hemingway to work on this inaugural festival on the site of such rich ceramics history. The offer to develop a large-scale participatory installation to animate the space with members of the public\, many of whom have never touched clay before\, goes to the heart of Clayground Collective’s ethos to bring art practice through clay to all.” \n\n\n\nCo-Directors Duncan Hooson\, Claire West & Julia Rowntree\, Clayground Collective \n\n\n\nIn a Field by a Bridge is just a short walk from London Bridge Station and the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers river bus service and is set amid the attractions of the London Bridge area with its cafes\, restaurants and theatres.  \n\n\n\nI: @inafieldbyabridge \n\n\n\nT: @inafieldfest

SUMMARY:Turning Earth Leyton Midsummer Market
DESCRIPTION:On 24/25 June\, Turning Earth will hold a huge artisan ceramics market in our members’ studio on Argall Avenue\, Leyton E10. There will be over 100 artists selling their hand-made ceramic wares over the course of the weekend. Come and stroll around the beautifully converted industrial building just down the road from Lea Bridge station and browse through the work of our talented members. Being regularly featured in Time Out and the Evening Standard and popular now all over London\, the market is an East London gem\, with people coming from all over the capital to buy hand-made ceramics directly from the maker. With live music from local musician Zoot Lynam and locally made artisanal food sold alongside beautiful tableware and sculpture\, it is all set to be a wonderful summer weekend – perfect for a day out!  \n\n\n\nThe market will take place in our real-life working pottery studio. Aside from the many hand-made wonders on sale\, visitors will be able to watch live demonstrations as our members will showcase their mesmerising skills on the potter’s wheel. If you want to get your hands on some clay\, there will also be a have-a-go stall where you (and your children) can try it out for yourself. Give it a try\, and if you like it\, maybe come back and do a course! \n\n\n\nTurning Earth’s Summer Market will again be part of the 11 Argall Ave Open Studios. The entire Argall Avenue industrial estate has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years\, with a wide variety of artisan businesses\, including hand-made furniture to craft beer and sourdough baking.
