SUMMARY:Startup Budget\, Valuation and Dilution
DESCRIPTION:A panel discussion to be held where experienced veterans in the Finance\, Tech\, and Startup industries. \nFind out why you need to get a solid business plan and a proper valuation before going for your funding quest. \nMany ideas are great and can attract attention\, however\, investors like business angels or venture capitalists look also at the team\, its members\, and the way you present yourself and the idea. \nThey also need to understand in a nutshell the plan and the prospect of a return on investments as well as what are you going to do with their cash. \nThe research for funding is becoming a jungle where other “startupers” who do not even compete on the same market compete for the same money. \nIt is also a time where you will have to give away part of your company and it is always wise to raise at lower dilution as you know that you will have to do it again one or two times. \nThe startup adventure is a journey and your need your investors to embark on it and help you to create a path of success. \nEBITA ratio and DCF valuation are not the only ones and it is important to know some more ways to evaluate your startup. \nBenefits for attendees: \nAttendees will learn about the thinking within the investor’s mind and what can trigger a yes or a no. They will also have some examples of real-life investments in startups. \nWe will list the different steps that could help to prepare a plan that will allow founders to document their journey to come \nAbout the speaker: \nHervé earned an Executive MBA from HEC Paris\, ranked in the top 20 worldwide business schools. He also holds different degrees and certificates. \nHervé specialises in critical thinking which allows him to make customized decisions in your own context and not only by applying the books. It could also be called\, pragmatism… \nAt an executive level at Apple Europe\, Middle East\, India & Africa\, he has spent 12 years focusing on education and technologies towards better delivery of teaching & learning. \nFor the last 9 years\, based in the Middle East\, Hervé has worked on subjects like infrastructure\, digital transformation\, business model optimization\, having in mind efficiency as a keyword. He has co-founded 4 companies on which 3 have been successfully sold. \nEvent promoted by Ercess Live

SUMMARY:Ready Steady Grow – Marketing workshop
DESCRIPTION:Marketing covers an expansive and multi-faceted range of skills and disciplines often requiring specialist knowledge and training. However\, at its core\, it is about selling your product or service to your customers. And from a start-up business perspective you need to be able to identify and explain quickly what it is you do and understand who your customers are.\n\n\n\nThis workshop is a practical hands-on session\, not a lecture on principles\, that will help you get to grips with these key ideas and leave you with a start on these for your business. We will cover: \n\n\n\n\nWhat is marketing? When do I need to do what?\n\n\n\nCreating an elevator pitch for your business to convey a clear understanding of what you are offering\n\n\n\nDevelop a better understanding of your customers\, why this is important and how to do it.\n\n\n\nWhy use buying personas? It allows you to better understand your customers’ priorities not your own.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout our Expert in Residence – Elizabeth Blake\n\n\n\nElizabeth Blake is the Managing Director of Apple Orchard Marketing. She has worked in sales and marketing roles with increasing seniority over the last 30 years. She has worked for companies from multinationals to start-ups. \n\n\n\nAt university\, she trained as a podiatrist. While I enjoyed the healthcare environment\, didn’t feel she was making enough of a difference\, so she moved into a sales role in pharmaceuticals. She realised she loved having involvement in healthcare but in a commercial capacity. Elizabeth then moved into orthopaedics and quickly into marketing. She has held roles\, including a marketing function ever since. These have been for large established companies launching new divisions and products and also start-up companies as the first commercial hire\, so there was no brand\, no marketing plan\, and no sales presentation! \n\n\n\nSo\, I know what it’s like to be in a start up company with a great idea for a product or service\, maybe you have even got some sales\, but you don’t have any idea where marketing fits. Apple Orchard Marketing is here to help. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn advance of the meeting we will send out a brief questionnaire so that you can tell us some background information on your business idea\, to help us tailor the session and to confirm your business details or pre-start plans. \n\n\n\nAll of our support is fully funded and is therefore free to access. \n\n\n\nIt is a requirement of our funding body that we record every organised interaction with pre-start and start-up businesses at BIPC Bristol. Please therefore take a few moments to provide us with the relevant information needed so we may provide our service. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRead steady grow supports businesses in the early stages of development. It offers a practical toolkit for start-ups with help on fundamental business needs.\n\n\n\nStarting a business requires dedication\, hard work and perseverance. It also involves learning and developing a myriad of new skills and understanding. This programme of interactive 2 hrs workshop will focus on building up these skill in around core business needs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nBusiness essentials for pre-starts\, planning\, IP & research\n\n\n\nMarketing – general\, digital\, email\n\n\n\nAccts/bookkeeping\n\n\n\nSales\n\n\n\nAI\n\n\n\n\nThese workshops will run on a regular basis throughout the year. In addition. we will supplement these core areas with a range of additional stimulating 1-1s and workshop sessions covering other areas like recruitment\, branding\, website design and build\, planning and even business coaching These will change over time with new ones being added. Keep an eye on our Eventbrite page or sign up to our newsletter to stay connected. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout BIPC Bristol\n\n\n\nAt BIPC Bristol\, we help and support aspiring entrepreneurs\, start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Bristol and the surrounding area. We offer a range of business services across four main themes: \n\n\n\n\nIntellectual Property guidance\, help and legal advice\n\n\n\nfree access to business intelligence resources and databases\, including market research\, grants\, company data and reports\n\n\n\none-to-one sessions with advisors and experts\, workshops and networking events\n\n\n\nspaces to meet\, study and research your business planning\n\n\n\n\nThe Business & IP Centre Bristol supports people to start\, protect and grow their businesses.
