SUMMARY:Craft Okinawa Lions & Sip Awamori Cocktails at Pantechnicon – Ceramics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ceramics Workshop\nCreate your own Shisa Guardian Lion statuette while sipping on a unique cocktail in this workshop led by ceramicist Akiko Matsuda.\nShisa are found all over the islands of Okinawa\, Japan’s southernmost prefecture and a beautiful subtropical archipelago. The figures are an iconic part of the islands’ unique history and heritage and can be found on rooftops and roadsides\, in restaurants and workplaces. Believed to ward off bad luck and evil spirits\, in the workshop\, Akiko will guide you through crafting a male (open mouth) or female (closed mouth) Shisa\, telling you more about the symbolism of these island talismans as you make them. To give you a taste of Okinawa\, the host will serve each guest a cocktail made with awamori\, a unique rice-based spirit indigenous to the islands\, as well as some Okinawan snacks sent all the way from the islands by Okinawa Tourism (Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau) which closely worked with Pantechnicon to develop this special experience. \nParticipants can take home their work unfired on the day\, or for an extra fee of £15\, Pantechnicon will arrange for the works to be glazed (transparent glaze) and fired. The firing process will take about one month. \nBook at Pantechnicon.com. \nAbout the artist\nAkiko Matsuda is a ceramic artist born in Kanagawa\, Japan. Since she was a child\, painting\, calligraphy\, music\, and pottery have been an important part of her life. After attending a Shisa making workshop in Okinawa\, Akiko was inspired to pursue a career in ceramics. She majored in ceramics at Tama Art University in Tokyo\, and her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across London and Tokyo. \nTickets cost £40 per person\, including all materials to make your own shisha and an awamori cocktail. This workshop will be held twice\, once at 14:00 and again at 18:00.

SUMMARY:BLEUR STUDIO SESSION: MEDITATIVE ABSTRACT ART // ARTIST: BLANDINE BARDEAU
DESCRIPTION:Join multi-disciplinary artist Blandine Bardeau to explore abstraction and meditation and create a series of collage works. \nAbout this event:\nCome explore your own creativity and the joy of making abstract art through playful experimentations of drawing\, painting and making collages in a small and intimate setting. Most of us are terrified of making a mistake\, doing the «wrong thing» and adult life often feels so serious. This session is about freedom\, letting go of our fears\, and connecting to a part of us that we don’t usually allow to come out in our busy daily lives. \nAs an indie art gallery\, we believe in art as a lived experience of the many. Pioneering new ways of making art accessible in a post-covid landscape\, we are proud to launch our Bleur Takeovers series\, partnering with carefully selected venues across London to bring art closer to the people and support our artists. This Spring\, we are thrilled to team up with the brilliant guys at Little Louie in Elephant Park: café by day\, wine and cocktail bar by night. From mindfulness drawing to freestyle embroidery\, join our talented collective of artists for weekly creative sessions every Wednesday evening from 7-9pm. You’ll be immersing yourself in cutting edge art explorations while socialising with your favourite drink — what’s not to like? Tickets will sell fast so make sure to grab yours! \nPrice includes all materials needed for the session and a drink voucher to redeem at the bar. Ticket sales go straight to supporting our artists. \nAbout the artist:\nBlandine Bardeau is a French born multi-disciplinary artist whose work is a playful exploration of the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract. Her feminine lines and intuitive experimentations has won her recognition early on in her career including winning the Louis Vuitton Bag Design Competition at Central Saint Martins and being featured in several publications. \nAs with all creative experimentations\, things can get a bit messy so make sure you wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Open to anyone\, no previous experience required. \nLittle Louie is located on the ground floor and is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. If you have any queries regarding accessibility\, please get in touch with us. \nWe may capture some content during the session. By registering for the event you confirm that you are happy for us to use this content for our distribution channels.

SUMMARY:Seeing Art with the Whole Body - A New Workshop Series by Claire Loussouarn
DESCRIPTION:‘Seeing art with the whole body’\, we will explore how to listen and receive an artist’s artwork\, and world with the three-dimensionality of our sensory bodies. \nFor our first workshop in this series at IMT Gallery we will have the pleasure to dialogue with Fran Hayes’ artwork. SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Waxing Crescent Moon with artist Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:As we approach July’s regenerative waxing moon\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the month ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process\, of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self. \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly infused with frankincense – woody\, fresh and uplifting. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on the techniques of plant gazing and observation. \nIn this two hour workshop we will explore the mysteries of plants through drawing\, painting\, and meditative observations\, we will go beyond the confines of the ordinary. We’ll take a moment to reconnect to our bodies and the living world through a serene Rose tea ceremony\, grounding ourselves in the present moment. \nAbout Joseph Walsh \nJoseph Walsh\, an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University\, and recently delivered the course Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Project Space\, as well as sharing insights with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nWhat To Expect \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants: \n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus we were able to connect with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. – participant \n“A very naturally held space offering freedom to be intuitive\, and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a full whole\, rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.” – participant \nThe workshop will take place amidst the thought-provoking exhibition Thick\, Stretchy\, Sticky Space at IMT Gallery\, features digital paintings and video works by emerging multidisciplinary artist Fran Hayes that delve into speculative landscapes\, inspired by damaged ecologies\, science-fiction\, and the uncanny; all viewed through a profoundly human lens. \nThis workshop is designed for individuals who seek to deepen their connection with nature and explore their creative potential. No prior experience is required – just an open heart and a curious mind. While drawing materials will be provided\, feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and preferred materials to enhance your experience. \nFree spaces are available for Tower Hamlets residents\, courtesy of support from Tower Hamlets Community Chest. \nReserve your spot now – space is limited!
