SUMMARY:Hooray For The Here And Now - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Hooray for the Here and Now is the first solo exhibition by multi-disciplinary artist Sam Haynes. The exhibition title reflects the positive outlook that defines her practice. \n\n\n\nStraddling sculpture and photography to balance an intuitive\, playful process within a structural framework\, the artist presents an ambiguous body of work that defies categorisation. Assemblage photo works will be shown alongside a series of sculptures constructed using materials sourced from the recent renovation of the gallery space itself. \n\n\n\nHaynes uses light and shadow to manipulate perspective and perception. Found objects and everyday materials are elevated to luxury items\, and precarious constructions are granted longevity in fine art photography\, introducing an element of drama and celebration to a fleeting moment. A public art background and experience collaborating with marginalised communities inform her work in equal measure. \n\n\n\nMaking connections is paramount\, whether between materials or across disciplines\, between artist and viewer\, or ultimately within wider society. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday 23 September\, Sam Haynes will be in conversation with Sheryll Catto\, Artist Director & CEO of the artist development agency ActionSpace\, to discuss her creative process and the influence of community on her practice today. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition closes with an opportunity to meet some of the Sound Minds artists who open their studios to visitors on 30 September. \n\n\n\nExhibition open times: Monday-Sunday\, 12 noon to 5pm during exhibition period 21-30 September \n\n\n\nPrivate View: Wednesday 20 September\, 6-9pm \n\n\n\nAddress: Bloom Gallery\, Sound Minds\, 20-22 York Road\, London SW11 3QA

SUMMARY:Musical Pilgrims in Victorian London
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Victorian London! \n\n\n\nA very special concert for the whole family to dazzle and unravel the intrigues and passions of the bygone era\, set on  a Victorian Street  of the theatre play “A Sherlock’s Carol”.   \n\n\n\n“Dresses\, diamonds\, pimples on noses\, beautiful hair\, marvellous outfits\, the beauty of the devil himself\, and the devil without the beauty. The last category is the least rare.” – Frederic Chopin. \n\n\n\nThis time pianist Yekaterina Lebedeva and violinistAysen Ulucanwill take you on the musical journey of Victorian London\, the London of Charles Dickens and Sherlock Holmes. \n\n\n\n“How could anyone resist falling in love with a man who is dashingly handsome\, composes songs\, and sings like an angel?” – Prince Albert was all of those things. Both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were competent musicians and singers. The doors of Buckingham palace were open to the likes of Felix Mendelssohn\, Edvard Grieg\, Johann Strauss. The royal couple attended performances and conversed with Chopin\, Liszt\, Verdi \, and Dvorak.Even Tchaikovskyfound more popularity in London than in any other country\, except his native Russia and United Stated. \n\n\n\nLondon was a crossroads and a magnet for international musicians who were looking to advance their career and popularise their music. Whether you are a fan of classical music or simply curious about the sounds that once filled the air in Victorian London\, this concert promises to be an unforgettable evening. \n\n\n\nTicket includes a concert and a minced pie! \n\n\n\nThe programme will include Chopin Nocturnes\, Tchaikovsky “Dumka”\, Grieg Violin and piano sonata\, Dvorak Dances and much more! \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Kenji Lim | Spend Time Not Thinking About Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:  \nUnder clear\, magenta skies\, they choose to settle\, nursed by the shade of passing trees. Warmth still lingers in the grasslands\, but the day is fading fast. Shadows of nightwings flicker over the hay\, swooping into branchy nests. \nStep lightly\, and take care of the amoeba underfoot. Leave no trace. The pitter-patter of pseudotoes echoes down desire paths between the shallow groves. Time glides with no familiar route ahead\, and dappled light scatters like many marbles over the blueish plains. The sun is falling\, auburn rays shine over swathes of caterpillar reeds\, their eyes peeping into the beams of last light. Cat tongues uncurl from bleary-faced cocoons\, eager for the night\, for a taste. \nOrbs wait above a lake\, rolling in place\, humming an absent-minded tune. A purr of regeneration dances on the air currents\, charging the lake below. In between contented rocks\, jewel water flows\, giving life to uncommon lands. Fur-laden tracks lead away\, soggy from the fuchsia puddles\, fluffy ends squeezing into secret mossy holes. \nLook down. Fleshy cups\, suckered at the rim of the lake spit pearls along the shoreline. Hungry mouths gape\, teeth brace\, swallowing dusk. Lichen bubbles between a chorus of drinking bristles\, the body hair of this earth. Life is not just surface-bound and sensible. It rains onto the ground\, sunstained\, settling to graze on this rich mess of violet roots. Please don’t touch the wildlife; take it for what it is. \nNew and unexpected stars yield an entangled bond\, shifting form when seen or unseen. That happens here\, between each button paw\, craggy horn\, and stalking eye. It plays out all at once\, under the trail of the moons. \nCan we ask about hills and waters or sing about bracken and fungus? They murmur into each other’s ears. They come down over a cliff face in a river of slime and leaf-fall\, tumbling into the reflection of a low pool. \nIn the age of unconquered pasture\, the wind grazes an unembraceable heaven\, a shyer blush of pink and blue. Rosey hills fold neatly\, with an orange sun hurrying to set between them. The beings beneath its gaze continue\, undisturbed\, as they always have. \nThey rest. Their silence whispers\, off you go now; this place was never meant for you. \nText by Charlotte Cole \nKenji Lim is a British artist based in Essex and born in Singapore. Lim studied sculpture at the Royal College of Art\, London (MA – 2017-2019) and at the Ruskin School of Art\, Oxford University (BFA – 1999-2002). Lim works through sculpture\, video\, digital collage\, installation and painting. His work reflects and refracts the landscape experience through the prisms of culture\, myth\, philosophy\, and the metaphysical\, returning the gaze of Western cultural norms through the eyes of other-than-human actors. Part archaeological\, part Fraggle Rock\, he navigates alternative modes of seeing and understanding the world and its inhabitants. Lim’s work is shown internationally\, including recent exhibitions\, such as Tourist at Galerie Reinthaler\, Vienna\, and Perishing Thirst at Quench Gallery\, Margate. He is an Acme Work/Live Artist at High House in Purfleet\, Essex.

SUMMARY:ANANAS
DESCRIPTION:To commemorate the 50th anniversary of opening its house and gardens to the public\, Fulham Palace unveils ANANAS\, a monumental upside-down pineapple by London artist Annie Trevorah. \nThe visually striking sculpture is inspired by the historic pinery-vinery at Fulham Palace\, a rare example of a pineapple and grape greenhouse built by Bishop Howley during his residency at the palace in the early 19th century. \nTrevorah’s particular area of interest is human-plant inter-connectivity and intra-dependence. The main sculpture’s lattice design blends in with the blooms and architecture of the walled gardens while reflecting the episcopal coat of arms. Four totems celebrating the shared characteristics of vegetables and humans complement the display as they rise above the formal planting of the knot garden section. \nThe pineapple (Ananas comosus)\, a tropical plant indigenous to South America\, was first introduced to Europe in the 17th century and has fascinated plant enthusiasts and scientists\, architects and artists ever since. Its cultivation relied on the transatlantic trade in enslaved Africans. Initially an expression of power and wealth\, it has become a symbol of friendship and cultural exchange in modern times. \nThe unveiling coincides with the ongoing exhibition The Bishops of London\, colonialism and transatlantic slavery at Fulham Palace.

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Waxing Crescent Moon with artist Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:As we approach July’s regenerative waxing moon\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the month ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process\, of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self. \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly infused with frankincense – woody\, fresh and uplifting. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on the techniques of plant gazing and observation. \nIn this two hour workshop we will explore the mysteries of plants through drawing\, painting\, and meditative observations\, we will go beyond the confines of the ordinary. We’ll take a moment to reconnect to our bodies and the living world through a serene Rose tea ceremony\, grounding ourselves in the present moment. \nAbout Joseph Walsh \nJoseph Walsh\, an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University\, and recently delivered the course Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Project Space\, as well as sharing insights with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nWhat To Expect \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants: \n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus we were able to connect with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. – participant \n“A very naturally held space offering freedom to be intuitive\, and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a full whole\, rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.” – participant \nThe workshop will take place amidst the thought-provoking exhibition Thick\, Stretchy\, Sticky Space at IMT Gallery\, features digital paintings and video works by emerging multidisciplinary artist Fran Hayes that delve into speculative landscapes\, inspired by damaged ecologies\, science-fiction\, and the uncanny; all viewed through a profoundly human lens. \nThis workshop is designed for individuals who seek to deepen their connection with nature and explore their creative potential. No prior experience is required – just an open heart and a curious mind. While drawing materials will be provided\, feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and preferred materials to enhance your experience. \nFree spaces are available for Tower Hamlets residents\, courtesy of support from Tower Hamlets Community Chest. \nReserve your spot now – space is limited!

SUMMARY:CRYPTIC - Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:‘CRYPTIC 42’\, a solo show by David Begbie\, is organised by Cris Contini Contemporary and curated by Pasquale Lettieri and Sandra Sanson at the Crypt Gallery in London.\nThe exhibition encapsulates 42 years of David Begbie’s creative journey\, covering the period from 1982 to 2024.\nThe show delves into various themes\, such as the duality of angel and demons present within every individual\, the profound influence of primitive tribal art\, and the intricate beauty of the human form. Begbie’s sculptures\, predominantly crafted from transparent metal mesh\, challenge the viewer’s perception of space and matter\, appearing as ethereal\, floating three-dimensional drawings that defy gravity.\nThe earliest piece\, ‘RELIC 1982\,’ offers a glimpse of a skeletal structure that symbolizes humanity’s origins\, drawing parallels between historical and evolutionary references. In contrast\, the latest sculpture\, ‘CRYPTIC 2024\,‘ reflects the often hidden yet powerful impact that tribal art has had on his work\, revealing the complexity of human nature through a combination of primitive masks and floating angelic figures.\nAt the core of the exhibition is the juxtaposition of opposites—light and shadow\, physicality and illusion\, abstraction and realism. Begbie’s use of metallic industrial materials\, which appear almost weightless\, invites viewers to question the boundaries between form and substance and the tension between real and perceived. This mastery of medium and theme has defined his 42-year career\, culminating in a body of work that transcends materiality and speaks directly to the viewer’s imagination and perception.\n\n\nDAVID BEGBIE: CRYPTIC 42  \n8-16 OCTOBER 2024 \n\n\n\nThe Crypt Gallery \nSt Pancras New Church 165\, Euston Rd London NW1 2BA \n(Entrance via Duke’s Road) \n\n\n\n  \nOpening Hours \nMon-Fri 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM \nSat 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

SUMMARY:"Adam"\, Resolution Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:Adam is a self-choreographed solo by Harry Theadora Foster\, being performed as part of a triple bill at Resolution Festival.  \nA body learns he’s alive. A child learns his favourite dance. An adult learns who he might have been.  \nA story of discovery culminates in a conversation between these beings across one body.   \nWhat would they tell each other if given the chance? \nIn a spellbinding journey of memory\, trickery and identity\, Harry Theadora Foster connects characters to their own past\, present and future selves. Adam is a testament to the fact that the act of ‘remembering’ is itself an act of imagination- and a tool to help us reimagine who we are now.  \nHarry Theadora Foster (he/him) is a dance artist based in London. Drawing from autobiographical experiences and his practice as a poet\, storytelling is central to his work\, focused on capturing and exploring human experiences.  \nHe has been a dancer with Akram Khan Company since 2022. A graduate of Rambert School\, he has also worked with companies such as Casson and Friends\, Richard Chappell Dance\, James Cousins Company\, and Richard Alston. His work has been staged in the UK at Lilian Bayliss Theatre Sadlers Wells\, Linbury Theatre Royal Opera House\, Anya Linden Studio Theatre\, The Playground Theatre\, and The Point\, Eastleigh.
