SUMMARY:Blood of My Blood - Photography Exhibition by Magda Kuca
DESCRIPTION:Magda Kuca presents a body of work highlighting the shared histories of photography and medicine at the Old Operating Theatre. \nBlood of My Blood is a multi-faceted project that investigates the link between personal narratives and scientific advancement through a photographic lens. Kuca’s solo exhibition blends in with the surroundings at the former site of both herbal apothecary and early surgical procedures. \nAt the core of the project lies the artist’s response to her mother’s cancer journey. Applying a camera-less form of experimental photography to capture their embracing bodies\, Kuca expresses shared vulnerability while echoing the effects of chemotherapy with the marks and traces left on the resulting image. \nFor a series of wet collodion portraits captured on glass\, and limbs on surgery-grade steel\, Kuca allows the unvarnished surfaces to decompose and tarnish\, repairing deliberate fractures with silver. Still lifes of plague doctor masks provide a link to the healing herbs grown in the museum’s attic. \nThe contemporary works are displayed in cabinets alongside the museum’s main collection. Reminiscent of vintage medical journals\, they evoke a sense of nostalgia while highlighting subsequent progress in overcoming physical injury and infectious disease. \nThe surgeries at the Old Operating Theatre were performed on women without anaesthetics or antiseptics\, in front of a live audience of predominantly male medical students. Magda Kuca’s work serves as a reminder of the personal stories behind medical innovation. \npublic open times:\nThursday – Sunday\, 10.30am – 5pm\n(exhibition entry included in museum general admission)

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Paul Sexton with Rock Goes to College (Special performance from Freya Everest)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with Paul Sexton\, acclaimed music journalist\, author and broadcaster\, as he explores his latest book Rock Goes to College — the definitive\, untold story of the UK university gig circuit that launched a generation of legendary artists. With an opening performance by talented singer-songwriter Freya Everest\, this one is not to be missed!  \nIn Rock Goes to College\, Sexton traces the rise of Britain’s student gig circuit during the late 1960s and 1970s. This grassroots touring network became a proving ground for emerging artists during the explosion of rock music and the album era. As new universities and polytechnics opened across the UK\, bands criss-crossed the country in battered vans\, playing student unions\, honing their sound and chasing the dream of a record deal. \nDrawing on extensive original interviews and his unrivalled access to artists and industry figures\, Sexton tells remarkable early-career stories of acts including Pink Floyd\, Led Zeppelin\, The Who\, Queen\, Elton John\, Fleetwood Mac\, Genesis\, Nick Drake\, AC/DC and Dire Straits — as well as the student promoters and social secretaries who booked them\, many of whom would go on to shape the modern music industry themselves. The book also reveals how Paul McCartney and Wings returned to this circuit post-Beatles to road-test a new band from the ground up. \nPart music history\, part social history\, Rock Goes to College captures a vital moment when higher education\, youth culture and live music collided — shaping careers\, communities and the future of British rock. \nWhat to expect\n\nAn in-depth conversation with Paul Sexton on the stories and research behind Rock Goes to College\nInsight into the UK’s university gig circuit and its role in developing iconic artists\nDiscussion on music journalism\, biography and documenting cultural history\nAudience Q&A\nA live and intimate acoustic performance from Freya Everest\nBook signing opportunity — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for an entertaining\, insightful and nostalgia-rich evening uncovering one of the most influential — and least documented — chapters in British music history. \nAbout The Long Play Sessions\nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, a curated series hosted by ICMP Music School\, celebrating influential writers whose work has shaped how we understand music\, culture and creative history. Each session brings landmark books to life through live conversation\, historical context and deep industry insight.

SUMMARY:Guest House: Unwriting the Artist’s Statement Online Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a focused\, playful session of conversation\, making\, and discovering your own voice. This workshop creates space to build confidence\, loosen habits around language\, and allow your voice to develop naturally\, staying close to your practice rather than separate from it. \nUnwriting the Artist’s Statement invites you to abscond from International Art English and respond directly to your work. Moving away from the critical language often used to address contemporary art\, this workshop proposes different protocols for speaking about your practice to the world.  \nThrough a series of guided prompts\, improvisation\, and gentle exercises\, participants will work with revision\, association\, and a deliberate quality of randomness to develop ways of using their own voice. The focus is on speaking through the work rather than separating language from practice. \nThis is a supportive space for play\, experimentation\, and discovery. No previous experience or prepared text is needed.  \nThe workshop is hosted by IMT Gallery and led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nOver the two hours\, you will: \n\nDevelop new ways of talking about your work that feel personal and less rehearsed\nLoosen habits around formal or institutional language\nBuild confidence in speaking and writing about your practice\nGenerate material you can continue to develop after the session\nConnect with others navigating similar questions around language and practice.\n\nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling and interventions that unsettle the notion of archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nThis workshop is open to all: makers\, artists\, writers\, anti-writers\, poets\, curators at any stage of their practice\, and anyone interested in finding alternative ways to speak about their work. It is especially useful if you are preparing portfolios\, applications\, or exhibitions\, or if you simply want your language to feel more natural and connected to what you do.  \nPlaces are limited to keep the session conversational and supportive—book early to secure your place. \nEarly Bird Rates are available until 29 March at 11:59pm GMT \n_\nImage: ‘Morass’ Mapping by Elle Reynolds

SUMMARY:Carromancy Divination Workshop with Rose-Marie Luk
DESCRIPTION:With the flickering glow of candlelight\, we will convene to unlock ancient wisdom and the language of the spirit. This workshop invites you to explore Carromancy Divination\, the timeless art of interpreting abstract forms from melted wax to access hidden messages by tapping into the subconscious\, and to set personal intentions for the days ahead. \nHeld within IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, featuring works that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speaks to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. In dialogue with the exhibition\, carromancy invites you to attune to the subtle emotional landscapes of home. \nImmerse yourself in the gallery space\, subtly infused with aromatic lavender to relax the mind and calm the senses. A curated experience awaits: watch as lilac wax is poured into water to create abstract forms\, engage in guided sketching to capture fleeting shapes\, and join in meditative reflections that draw you closer to your intuitive self.  \nIn this two-hour workshop led by interdisciplinary artist Rose-Marie Luk\, you will: \n\nDiscover the ancient origins of Carromancy\, tracing its roots from Celtic druids to diverse indigenous traditions.\n\n\nEngage in a step-by-step creative process: pouring\, observing\, drawing\, and interpreting the shifting forms of candle wax.\n\n\nCraft a unique talisman spell jar by combining your wax creation with foraged objects and healing crystals\, imbuing it with your personal intentions for self-awareness and transformation.\n\n\nParticipate in reflective meditations designed to harmonise your creative energies and deepen your connection to the universe.\n\nAbout Rose-Marie Luk \nRose-Marie Luk explores her cross-cultural identity through transformative art practices that channel ancestral wisdom\, evoke forgotten memories\, and uncover hybrid creations. Using automatic techniques and sigil calligraphy\, she bridges the sacred and the spiritual\, transmuting confoundment into clarity. Rose-Marie’s practice speaks to lost languages and evolving identities\, encouraging connection\, growth\, and self discovery. In this workshop\, Rose-Marie channels ancient divination practices to help you reconnect with your inner vision and discover the alchemy of transformation. \nWhat To Expect  \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Rose-Marie’s workshop\, as told by previous participants:  \n“[…] It exceeded expectations! I found this very interesting and relaxing. The environment has been so calm\, friendly and welcoming. I’ve loved how accessible this has been for someone who doesn’t consider themselves as a ‘natural’ artist as such.” \n“It’s a beautiful process to pace out and spend time doing – it gave space for really going with initial impression and working upon that.” \n“I learnt a lot about shifting how I observe and letting in the oracle nature of carromancy. It is worth trying because it is a unique way of spending an evening with others.” \nThis workshop is open to all—artists\, writers\, dreamers\, cloud-gazers\, poetic thinkers\, deep feelers\, curious explorers\, and open minded visionaries alike. \nPlease bring your preferred drawing materials and sketchbook\, additional supplies will also be provided. \nReserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council.

DESCRIPTION:All are invited into the Guest House\, a shared\, temporary workspace formed through collective contribution and the relaxed palava of conversation. You don’t need to sew a palm tree if you don’t want to! \nParticipants are invited to sit together\, sew by hand\, talk\, listen\, share stories\, or simply observe. SUMMARY:Versus Arts Presents In-Between Spaces: A Solo Exhibition by Muslum Teke Curated by Ilayda Uzunarslan
DESCRIPTION:In-between Spaces brings together works by Turkish painter Muslum Teke\, whose practice centers on the human face as a site of psychological depth and inner reflection. \nMoving between figuration and abstraction\, Teke approaches the face not merely as a physical form\, but as a vessel of emotion\, memory\, and unspoken experience. His layered surfaces and expressive brushwork reveal the fragile boundary between visibility and feeling; between presence and absence. \nWorking primarily with oil and acrylic\, Teke embraces the materiality of paint as a trace of thought and sensation. Rather than offering fixed narratives\, his works open a contemplative space\, inviting viewers into a silent dialogue with the human condition.

SUMMARY:In-Between Spaces - Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In-between Spaces brings together works by Turkish painter Muslum Teke\, whose practice centres on the human face as a site of psychological depth and inner reflection.

SUMMARY:Imagine That! : Solo Art Exhibition by The Cameron Twins
DESCRIPTION:Imagine That! is the latest solo exhibition by The Cameron Twins\, opening at Protein Studios in East London and celebrating imagination through a playful\, nostalgic lens! \nThe exhibition brings together a wide range of works\, including large hand-pulled silkscreen prints\, collage\, mixed-media canvases\, sculpture\, and large-scale installation. The show will be open to the public from Friday\, 27th February to Saturday\, 28th February from 10 am to 7 pm each day. \n” Childhood is full of wild invention\, messy logic and unfiltered fun\, where fantasy is instinctive and always alive…but as we grow older\, that same sense of whimsy and wonder often fades. ‘Imagine that!’ playfully explores the tension between childhood and adulthood\, the ongoing tug-of-war between responsibility and fun\, and the internal battle to keep imagination alive. It celebrates the effort it takes to stay playful\, and the stubborn persistence of childhood imagination that refuses to behave!” – The Cameron Twins \nThe Cameron Twins are identical twins and contemporary British artists whose practice centres on hand-pulled screen printing\, layered processes\, and expressive hand-painted mark-making to create emotionally charged works rooted in nostalgia\, childhood imagery\, and pop culture. Over a short period of time\, they have built a dedicated international following\, and their work has been sold at Bonhams\, is held in significant private collections\, and has led to collaborations with brands including Bang & Olufsen\, LØCI\, and Gresham Blake. \nOpen to the Public: Friday 27th & Saturday 28th February\, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm (both days) \nLocation: Protein Studios\, 31 New Inn Yard\, London EC2A 3EY \n

SUMMARY:Paolo Battistutta - Transits
DESCRIPTION:Transits as passages\, metamorphoses\, transformations: the title of Paolo Battistutta’s exhibition at Cris Contini Contemporary gallery in Notting Hill\, encapsulates both our present and the essence of his practice\, naming the constant shift between figuration – faces\, portraits\, human presence – and the abstract–informal field – the celebrated tondos and beyond. Timed with Frieze London the exhibition enters the wider conversation animating the city’s contemporary art scene that week \nOn large canvases\, Battistutta stages a visceral confrontation with painting: matter and thought\, gesture and figure push the image beyond its boundaries. Paint becomes psyche—emotion before figure—driven by an informal\, impulsive energy. His monumental visages\, cut through by vivid chromatic fields\, open a journey into interiority: less “beautiful” portraits than raw mirrors of vulnerability\, where deformation sharpens insight. \nThe other pole of his work unfolds in the tondos: dynamic\, layered masses radiating a primordial energy—arenas of impulses\, events and tensions—where the circular form offers unity alongside maximum compositional freedom. Here the ego recedes\, form fractures\, and an almost iconoclastic impulse advances; painting becomes a transit of body and soul. \nThe exhibition—produced by Cris Contini Contemporary\, coordinated by Sandra Sanson\, and accompanied by a catalogue published by Grafica Antiga—features critical texts by Lorena Gava\, Pasquale Lettieri\, Cristian Contini\, and Fulvio Granocchia. \n  \nPaolo Battistutta – Transits \nCris Contini Contemporary\, Notting Hill\, London\n14 October – 15 November 2025 \nVernissage: 14 October at 6PM

SUMMARY:Life Drawing Creative Social - Automatism of Ithell Colquhoun (from £5)
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the first major exhibition of visionary artist Ithell Colquhoun that is currently on show at Tate Modern\, this is part 1 of our Ithell Colquhoun inspired series – and the theme is ‘Automatic Drawing and the Psychic Trace’. \n  \nAs a surrealist\, Colquhoun used automatism to bypass the conscious mind. Some prompts of purely automatic drawing techniques—eyes closed\, non-dominant hand\, continuous line and beyond —will be prepared to get everyone out of their logical brain to explore this creative process together. \n  \nThe goal isn’t an accurate drawing but a raw\, honest response to the moment\, capturing primal energy and subconscious impressions. The overarching focus would be The Magical Body: Drawing the Unseen; let’s approach the model not just as a physical form\, but as a vessel of psychic\, natural\, and magical energy. Let’s draw what is felt and intuited\, not just what is seen. \n  \nI hope you will be “freed” from your current drawing styles and success formula after this session\, just like how I felt after visiting the exhibition. \n  \nImage Credit: Ithell Colquhoun\, Gorgon (1946). Her practice predominantly focuses on documentary photography and video\, often using analogue mediums and techniques to create intimate and observational narratives.\n\nGian Maitelli (b. 1990\, Brazil) is a contemporary photographer based in London. By observing the sensibility in the ordinary and the quotidian\, Maitelli’s photographic vision captures street moments with a humanistic and poetic approach.\n\nHüseyin Ovayolu was born in Gaziantep\, Turkiye. He studied Photography and Video at Istanbul Bilgi University on a full scholarship. He was among the first participants of the Documentary Photography School organised by the Photography Foundation. Through photography\, he seeks to narrate personal histories and collective memory. His artistic practice is rooted in geographies where land\, conflict\, and identity are deeply intertwined. He primarily produces work in the Middle East and Eastern countries\, focusing on how place shapes people’s lives\, memories\, and social fabric. Ovayolu is an artist who conveys personal stories and collective memory through the language of photography. He has been living in London\, UK\, since 2022.\n\n\n\nNacho Rivera (Madrid\, 1977) is a Spanish photographer and educator based in London. With a mindful and artistic approach\, the thread of human experience runs through his work. He delights in detail\, highlighting the subtle and the unexpected\, creating thoughtful\, serene and meaningful images\, with an emphasis on narrative. His work has been published in books and magazines such as The British Journal of Photography\, The Telegraph Luxury Magazine\, The Times\, AD Magazine\, House and Garden and GQ Magazine. His projects have been displayed in Museums\, Galleries and International Photography Festivals\, including The Mediterranean Museum in Spain\, The Hoxton Gallery and The Manchester Contemporary in the UK\, amongst others. You can also find my Silver Gelatin Prints in public and private photography collections. As a photography teacher and mentor\, He has shared his knowledge and experience in schools such as Lycée Français Charles De Gaulle and Kings College in London. He has also participated as a panellist at Photography Festivals\, most recently at RevelaT in Barcelona. \n\n\n\nSemra Diana Halipoğlu (b. 1987\, Bulgaria) is a visual artist specialising in photography. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Akdeniz University\, majoring in Photography.\n\n\nHer practice explores themes of identity\, mythology\, and the hidden structures of consciousness\, often constructing handmade scenes that merge tactile materiality with symbolic narratives. Through her work\, Halipoğlu invites viewers into a space where inner worlds\, ancient myths\, and contemporary selfhood intertwine. She currently lives and works in London. \n\n\n\nSeren Şarapçıoğlu is a Brighton-based visual artist whose work navigates the fragile territories between memory\, identity\, nature\, and existence. Working primarily with photography\, she transforms her images through subtle manipulations\, bending the familiar into the unfamiliar. In her recent portraits\, the deliberate erasure of eyes dissolves certainty\, inviting viewers to confront the unseen emotional landscapes within each figure. Her practice drifts between documentary and experimental narrative\, creating porous spaces where image and memory blur. Through gestures of disappearance and transformation\, she explores the shifting thresholds between the human body and the world it inhabits.\n\n\n\n\n\nYiğit Günel is a London-based multidisciplinary photographer whose work centres around people-based stories\, captured through a meticulous approach to lighting and a focus on authenticity. Since founding CULT in 2022\, he has expanded his practice to include Cult Creative Meet-ups\, a platform for artists and creatives in East London to connect and openly discuss the mental health challenges within the creative industry. Yiğit was selected for the London Creative Network Artist Development Programme in 2021 with Four Corners and continues to exhibit his work both locally and internationally. His notable exhibitions include New Photography (2015) at Alan Istanbul and 34 Women 34 Portraits (2012) at the Antalya Film Festival\, among others. His work has been published in Photographing a Rebellion by Ozcan Yurdalan (2014) and Moscow Diary\, a self-publication in 2005. He has also lectured and conducted workshops on storytelling through photography\, advanced lighting techniques\, and portraiture\, most recently hosting ongoing monthly Cult Creative Meet-ups in East London.\n\nCurator Dr Nilay Islek is a London-based artist\, academic\, and curator originally from İzmir\, Turkey. She studied photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylül University and completed her PhD at the Department of Radio\, Television\, and Cinema at Ege University\, focusing on visual culture\, collective memory\, and conceptual photography aesthetics.\n\n\nKnown for her interdisciplinary approach that combines artistic production\, curatorial practice\, and education\, ISLEK has taught photography in various institutions over the years and actively participated in documentary\, conceptual\, and cross-cultural projects. In 2016\, she became the first female photographer from Turkey to be awarded the title of “X-Photographer” by Fujifilm.\n\n\n\nIn 2018\, she relocated to London after being awarded the prestigious “Exceptional Talent” artist visa by the United Kingdom. As an extension of the Artlens Visual Culture and Photography Workshop she founded in İzmir\, she established Artlens London Visual Art Atelier in 2019. ISLEK continues her artistic production and workshops in London\, where her interdisciplinary projects focus on themes of memory\, identity\, and place.\n“Selfhood” invites the audience not only to observe but also to confront themselves and explore the shared connections within their personal experiences.

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Saille Moon Workshop with Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Connect with Earth’s plant allies through drawing\, painting and tea ceremony… \nThe moon in Sagittarius is an ideal moment to receive knowledge from other kinds of consciousness. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the month ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level\, it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self* \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly smudged with mugwort to encourage chi flow. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on plant gazing and observation techniques. \nIn this two-hour workshop\, we will explore the mysteries of plants through drawing\, painting\, and meditative observations\, going beyond the confines of the ordinary. \nWe reconnect to our bodies and the living world through a serene tea ceremony\, grounding ourselves in the present moment. We will look at Ground Ivy\, which is aromatic\, clearing\, and warming. \nJoseph Walsh is an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University and recently delivered Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Space\, and shared insights with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nWhat To Expect \nBelow\, we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants: \n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus\, we connected with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. \n“A naturally held space offers freedom to be intuitive and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.” \nPlease bring your preferred drawing materials and sketchbook; materials will also be provided. \n*In Permaculture\, ‘guilds ‘ are the names for a collective of plants\, each contributing to the ecology. Like a loungey spread\, Ground Ivy is ground cover at woodland edges and shady wasteland\, creeping along the earth\, a veneer for dank and damp domains.\nIt is connected to witchcraft\, as it was said to drive off other flora. But that is not what I notice. It occupies gaps and crevices as if palming or sealing them\, and other plants grow in this situation. ’ Cat foot‘ is another name. \nIn the doctrine of signatures\, where the herb looks like what it cures\, its toothed curvy leaves resemble human ears and appealing sound waves; it is medicine for tinnitus and earache. \n🎟️ Reserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Read-Only Memory\, Pop-Up Video Installation by Lina A.
DESCRIPTION:Site-specific pop-up video installation by multidisciplinary artist Lina A.\n\nRead-Only Memory is Lina A.’s newest inquiry into the vulnerability and persistence of both personal and collective memories\, building upon the concepts of her 2024 solo show\, RAM. This immersive\, multi-channel video installation presents the viewer with a dizzying\, anarchic flow of fragmented imagery—lost\, found\, recovered\, personal\, and impersonal. Images bleed and writhe through stacked projections\, and an erratic soundscape enhances the feeling of disorientation and familiarity at the same time. The randomization of sequence interferes with linear narrative\, recalling the instability of memory and how memory decays\, overlaps\, and reforms. In Read-Only Memory\, Lina A. further explores the tension between preservation and loss\, the question of what remains archived and what is permanently lost to digital decay.
