SUMMARY:Dolly’s Clinic | Coningsby Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Presented off-site by Mandy Zhang Art and guest curated by Joséphine May Bailey\, Dolly’s Clinic places Annie Trevorah’s enquiry into aesthetics\, bodily modification and the politics of appearance in context of medieval bestiaries and surrealist imaginations. \nReferencing the language and rituals of the contemporary beauty industry\, Trevorah introduces a meticulously realised aesthetics clinic for animals named after the first cloned mammal. A cast of six matte aluminium sculptures\, each enhanced with organic elements\, model a range of signature procedures\, complete with consultant’s notes and recovery plans. An interactive AR visualisation by multimedia artist Dr Blanca Regina invites viewers to join an exfoliated poodle’s celebration of its smooth new body. \nBeneath a playful and humorous surface\, the exhibition raises fundamental questions about humanity’s relationship with other species. SUMMARY:Susan Stockwell: Make-do and Mend
DESCRIPTION:Make-do and Mend is Susan Stockwell’s fourth solo exhibition at Patrick Heide Contemporary Art. \nTaking its title from a familiar phrase associated with domestic craft\, in particular in response to wartime rationing and shortages\, this new body of work continues the artist’s exploration into the social and political histories embedded in commonplace objects that have outlived their initial purpose. \nWith a free-standing dress sculpture constructed from obsolete banknotes Stockwell comments on the fragility of financial systems. Coffee stains tracing the outlines of colonial territories on vintage dressmaking patterns reference the instability of political and economic power. Meticulously embroidered moths covering the holes in an old bed blanket highlight nature’s response to accelerating ecological change. \nBy mending and reassembling Susan Stockwell does not simply preserve objects and the histories they hold\, but turns them into conduits for reflection and repair.
