SUMMARY:Guest House: Unwriting the Artist’s Statement Online Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a focused\, playful session of conversation\, making\, and discovering your own voice. This workshop creates space to build confidence\, loosen habits around language\, and allow your voice to develop naturally\, staying close to your practice rather than separate from it. \nUnwriting the Artist’s Statement invites you to abscond from International Art English and respond directly to your work. Moving away from the critical language often used to address contemporary art\, this workshop proposes different protocols for speaking about your practice to the world.  \nThrough a series of guided prompts\, improvisation\, and gentle exercises\, participants will work with revision\, association\, and a deliberate quality of randomness to develop ways of using their own voice. The focus is on speaking through the work rather than separating language from practice. \nThis is a supportive space for play\, experimentation\, and discovery. No previous experience or prepared text is needed.  \nThe workshop is hosted by IMT Gallery and led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nOver the two hours\, you will: \n\nDevelop new ways of talking about your work that feel personal and less rehearsed\nLoosen habits around formal or institutional language\nBuild confidence in speaking and writing about your practice\nGenerate material you can continue to develop after the session\nConnect with others navigating similar questions around language and practice.\n\nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling and interventions that unsettle the notion of archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nThis workshop is open to all: makers\, artists\, writers\, anti-writers\, poets\, curators at any stage of their practice\, and anyone interested in finding alternative ways to speak about their work. It is especially useful if you are preparing portfolios\, applications\, or exhibitions\, or if you simply want your language to feel more natural and connected to what you do.  \nPlaces are limited to keep the session conversational and supportive—book early to secure your place. \nEarly Bird Rates are available until 29 March at 11:59pm GMT \n_\nImage: ‘Morass’ Mapping by Elle Reynolds

SUMMARY:The Museum of Connection - Workshop with Georgia Clemson and Lina Ivanova
DESCRIPTION:Embrace the power of collaborative creation in the second in a series of transformative workshops led by artist duo Georgia Clemson and Lina Ivanova\, hosted by IMT Gallery. In The Museum of Connection\, you are invited to explore the generative possibilities of collectivity through a series of guided creative exercises and to imagine working together as a new way to survive on our damaged planet. \nIn the last decade\, our experience of closeness has radically shifted. Digital interactions\, though abundant\, have left many of us reliant on screens for connection. Georgia and Lina began The Museum of Connection in response to this change\, inspired by Donna Haraway’s term Sympoiesis\, meaning making-with\, a reminder that all creation and survival depend on collaboration. \nThe duo will transform IMT Gallery into a space of encounter\, a shared and fertile ground where real-life connection and creativity can take root. Each workshop in the series will be themed for a collective act: food\, play\, touch\, and movement. For this workshop\, Lina and Georgia invite you to use your whole body to create an image with a difference\, exploring the theme of movement. \nIn this workshop\, we will gather in the gallery to create one-of-a-kind artworks\, both collectively and individually. The event will begin with a specially themed meditation\, written by the artists\, and unfold into writing and drawing games. The primary technique in this event will focus on cyanotypes\, a form of experimental camera-less photography. This technique reduces the image to its fundamental components – light\, shadow and form. The process is unpredictable by nature\, resulting in artworks that record our intentional and incidental marks\, the traces of presence\, sharing\, and interaction. Each image created is ephemeral but can be ‘fixed’ as a lasting memory of the moment. The workshop will culminate in the collaborative creation of a large-scale cyanotype. \nAs a participant\, you will have the opportunity to contribute what you make to the Museum’s growing archive\, as a living monument to community\, built within two fleeting hours\, yet resonant with the lasting memory of connection. \nEach workshop in this series is different\, so if you have joined us before\, you are welcome to join us again. No experience is necessary. Please bring your preferred drawing materials and paper\, additional supplies will also be provided. \nMeet the artists: \nGeorgia\, Clemson\, and Lina Ivanova are London-based artists with fifteen years of combined experience in creative facilitation. They first exhibited together in A Cohesion of Light at Peckham 24 (2021)\, and created The Museum of Connection in 2024. Both artists have a background in experimental photography and make work challenging the conventions of the medium. \nGeorgia’s work has been featured in Source Photographic Review\, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Italia. Recent exhibitions include The vessel that contains me at Creative Health Camden and Retreat: the UK’s first climate refugees at Middlesex University as part of Barnet Climate Action Month. Lina is a co-founder of Revolv Collective and a recipient of the Turner Contemporary Portfolio Prize. Her work has been exhibited by RPS\, the South Bermondsey Art Trail\, and the Goethe Institut in Bulgaria. Her most recent commission is Business is driven by quarterly results\, a public art installation in Croydon\, funded by Turf Projects.  \nAre you ready to discover the power of collective creativity? Reserve your place and join this radically original happening at IMT Gallery.

SUMMARY:Gathering Wands: Walk and Carving Workshop with Harri Harrison
DESCRIPTION:Centred on Harri Harrison’s sculptural Wands series in the group exhibition The House at IMT Gallery\, this workshop invites a shared evening of wandering\, foraging and making. \nThe workshop begins with a twilight walk through Victoria Park\, led by multimedia artist Harri Harrison. Moving along desire paths\, the group will allow themselves to wander off the obvious routes\, gathering found natural materials along the way. These paths offer a subtle\, gentle form of resistance\, a space for slower attention and observation. \nReturning to IMT Gallery\, we will gather our foraged materials and create our own wands using a combination of carving and binding techniques. The session concludes with a guided meditation and meditative drawing exercise. Together we will explore what it means to hold found natural materials\, noticing how our focus shifts between objects\, ourselves\, and the connections they hold.  \nNo previous experience needed\, and natural materials and tools will be provided. Feel free to bring your preferred drawing materials and any found items you would like to work with\, such as stones\, sticks\, shells\, dried flowers\, wood\, or string for binding. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking\, as paths may be slightly muddy. If you have any questions or specific access needs\, please feel free to get in touch. \nAbout Harri Harrison: \nHarri Harrison is a multimedia artist whose practice integrates performance\, text-based projections\, plant-based work\, and alternative photography processes\, engaging directly with urban environments. Harri explores notions of place\, community\, grief\, gratitude\, and belonging\, inviting us to reconsider our relationship to nature and future communities.  \nHarri has over 13 years of experience leading creative workshops\, collaborating with institutions such as Cubitt Gallery\, PEER Gallery\, and Phytology at Bethnal Green Nature Reserve. \nGathering Wands is open to all — wanderers\, makers\, quiet explorers\, and anyone curious to slow down\, attend to the everyday\, hold attention\, and reflect through making.  \nSpaces are limited. Reserve your place for an evening of quiet attention.

SUMMARY:Language & Chaos For Beginners: A Lab For New Writers
DESCRIPTION:A playful workshop for the creatively curious. In games of chance and memory excavation\, we’ll spark new language\, scenes\, and storylines. \nDate and time: \nThursday\, October 16 · 6 – 8pm GMT+1. Doors at 5:45pm \nLocation: \nThe Residence Gallery \n229 Victoria Park Road London E9 7HD \nAbout this event: \nDo you ever feel like creative writing is unfamiliar territory\, that your attempts at crafting prose are quickly cut short by self-doubt\, or that––when it comes to language and story––you’re stuck in frustrating patterns? \nThis class invites you into a space of experimentation—through games of chance\, memory excavation\, and playful dives into our own half-remembered myths\, we’ll spark the creation of new language\, scenes\, and storylines. It’s particularly well-suited to those from visual arts backgrounds\, offering intuitive\, image-driven approaches to language and story. We are interested in the emergent: the ideas and worlds which appear in us regardless of our own beliefs about our writing skill. By loosening our grip on outcome and leaning into surprise\, we’ll sidestep habitual thinking and discover unexpected access points into storytelling. \nIf you have no English literature background whatsoever\, you’ll feel right at home; no prior literary training is assumed or required. Our approach is accessible and unpretentious\, with an emphasis on creative exploration rather than jargon. \nOur focus is on generative practices—approaches that forge a way into writing when you feel stuck\, uninspired\, or unsure where to begin. Game objects like dice and tarot cards will help us invite random chance and ‘good chaos’ into our work\, encouraging surprise and spontaneity in the creative process. You’ll collect a range of practical tools to carry with you: ways to jumpstart new projects\, tap into unfamiliar voices\, re-enter stalled scenes\, and re-engage with memory. Curiosity will be our engine as we explore accessible\, repeatable methods designed to move us beyond creative ruts and into fresh terrain. \nYou might walk away with the beginnings of something new—a character\, a scene\, an idea—but the real goal is to give you an experience of writing that feels alive and personally meaningful. This is a space to write without pressure\, to get curious\, and to let your creative instincts lead the way \nWhat to Bring:\n– A notebook and pen (I strongly encourage this over a laptop\, but of course bring whatever tools meet your needs)\n– Things to make your seated area more comfortable\, like a pillow or a blanket\n– a coin\, a 6-sided dice\, and a tarot deck (only if you have them––we’ll have extras)\n– A favourite fairytale– no need for a physical copy\, just have one in mind! \nArianna Reiche is the author of Warden / Star (Tangerine Press) and At The End Of Every Day (Atria Books/Simon & Schuster)\, and has been praised by The New York Times for her ‘enormous gifts’. She was Founding Editor of The Wrong Quarterly\, and her short fiction has appeared in Ambit Magazine\, Joyland\, The Mechanics’ Institute Review\, Berlin’s SAND Journal\, Feels Blind Literary\, Lighthouse Press\, and Popshot. She’s written features for ArtNews\, New Scientist\, The London Fashion Week Daily\, Fest Magazine\, Vogue International\, and Vice. She teaches on City University’s creative writing MFA programme\, where she also carries out doctoral research on interactive narratives and metafiction\, with a focus on multimodal\, non-linear storytelling.

SUMMARY:Talk: The Battle of Chillianwala - Chelsea History Festival
DESCRIPTION:Ian McLeod tells the story of one of the fiercest battles of the Second Sikh War\, assessing its significance and revealing a unique link with the Royal Hospital Chelsea. \nAbout the event\nIn January 1849\, in the Punjab (in modern-day Pakistan)\, forces of the British East India Company clashed with the army of the Sikh Empire in a fierce and bloody battle. The British public were shocked by the severe casualties inflicted on British soldiers\, particularly those of the 24th Regiment of Foot\, which lost half of its strength in dead and wounded. Both sides claimed victory\, but British prestige was damaged. \nAt the time\, the battle fired Victorian imaginations. One distinguished poet immortalised it in verse and\, when two British generals were remarking on the disaster of the ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ in Crimea in 1854\, one remarked: ‘These sorts of things will happen in war. It is nothing to Chillianwala.’

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Saille Moon Workshop with Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Connect with Earth’s plant allies through drawing\, painting and tea ceremony… \nThe moon in Sagittarius is an ideal moment to receive knowledge from other kinds of consciousness. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the month ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level\, it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self* \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly smudged with mugwort to encourage chi flow. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on plant gazing and observation techniques. \nIn this two-hour workshop\, we will explore the mysteries of plants through drawing\, painting\, and meditative observations\, going beyond the confines of the ordinary. \nWe reconnect to our bodies and the living world through a serene tea ceremony\, grounding ourselves in the present moment. We will look at Ground Ivy\, which is aromatic\, clearing\, and warming. \nJoseph Walsh is an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. He studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University and recently delivered Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Space\, and shared insights with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nWhat To Expect \nBelow\, we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants: \n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus\, we connected with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. \n“A naturally held space offers freedom to be intuitive and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.” \nPlease bring your preferred drawing materials and sketchbook; materials will also be provided. \n*In Permaculture\, ‘guilds ‘ are the names for a collective of plants\, each contributing to the ecology. Like a loungey spread\, Ground Ivy is ground cover at woodland edges and shady wasteland\, creeping along the earth\, a veneer for dank and damp domains.\nIt is connected to witchcraft\, as it was said to drive off other flora. But that is not what I notice. It occupies gaps and crevices as if palming or sealing them\, and other plants grow in this situation. ’ Cat foot‘ is another name. \nIn the doctrine of signatures\, where the herb looks like what it cures\, its toothed curvy leaves resemble human ears and appealing sound waves; it is medicine for tinnitus and earache. \n🎟️ Reserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Elder Moon Workshop with Joseph Walsh
DESCRIPTION:As we approach December’s full moon\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the year ahead. \nIn alchemy\, the art of drawing plants holds a twofold significance. On one level\, it represents the material aspect of the alchemical process of sunlight and water becoming stem\, leaf and flower. On a deeper symbolic level\, the depiction of plants embodies the concept of growth and transformation\, informing the practitioner – an alchemical self* \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly infused with Yarrow\, earthy and balancing. We will look at Salvias. They sharpen the mind\, have anti-inflammatory properties\, and are ceremoniously used to purify space. \nAbout Joseph Walsh \nJoseph Walsh is an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. \n*Observations made by Joseph plant gazing under Vine Moon with Hawthorn – \n“The hedgerow\, a stopover\, shelter and thicket for beings. Heart tonic\, thicket thickening\, berry red of cardiovascular\, a stopover for birds. Branches shift and alter according to the environment; each lobed leaf differs. The doctrine of signatures\, where plant forms are like body parts\, is the heart as an organ of perception. \nA tiny amount of berries dotting the tree\, gleaning the teeniest amount. It’s before winter\, amongst fullness rather than emptiness.” \nReserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. These places have been lovingly created with support from Tower Hamlets Council. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Active Involvement in Research (AIRD) 2024: in person event
DESCRIPTION:The annual Active Involvement in Research event brings together patients\, service users\, carers and local people\, researchers\, health and care professionals and organisations\, in south London and beyond. \nThe theme this year is: ‘Improving health and care in south London\, shaping future research.’ \nFor several years\, Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London has carried out research on how various types of health and social care might be improved and inequalities tackled. \nStaff\, public contributors\, community and other partners have worked hard to successfully understand and achieve change for local people who experience a range of issues. This includes those with multiple conditions and those facing disadvantage and discrimination which affects their wellbeing. But many south Londoners are still at risk and face barriers to getting the treatment and support they need. \nThis year\, Active Involvement in Research will look at: \n\nWhat the focus of future work should be from April 2026 to March 2031\, if funding is available\nHow can we\, our community and other partners build on local strengths and direct limited resources to address current challenges in useful ways? This includes not duplicating what other research teams and organisations are doing or have done\nHow can we further develop active involvement\, and recognise the value of lived experience\, in future research?\n\nThis is the first of two events. It will be held in person on 13 November 2024. The Active Involvement in Research: online event will follow on 18 November 2024. \nYou are welcome to join us at either or both events to hear about thinking to date and share your own views\, which will help to shape future research. Further information will follow\, but places are limited so it is advisable to book early. \nAttendance is free and all are welcome. \nFind out more \n\nTo find out more about the event\, please email involvement coordinator savitri.hensman@kcl.ac.uk. You can also visit www.arc-sl.nihr.ac.uk\nPlease note: payments will be made to public members who have an agreed role.
