SUMMARY:Where is God in our 21st Century World?
DESCRIPTION:CHAIYA ART AWARDS run the UK’s biggest awards exploring spirituality through the visual arts\, with a top prize of £10\,000\, but due to the coronavirus the 2020 Chaiya Art Awards\, has been postponed until Easter 2021 at gallery@oxo on London’s Southbank. \nHowever\, founder\, Katrina Moss says “we feel that art can play such an important role in our current situation\, to calm the soul\, to challenge our perspectives and world views\, to inspire and encourage us\, to engage with creativity and the mystery within”. \nSo for the 1st time\, people from all over the world can visit the ‘Where is God in our 21st Century World?’ 3D virtual exhibition at the OXO gallery online. This is an exhibition for the curious and open-minded\, for people of all faiths and none. From over 450 submissions we chose 35 visual artists who responded to the theme with their imagination and creativity. \nPeople can also vote for their favourite artwork and the winning artist will receive £500. \nhttps://chaiyaartawards.co.uk/online-exhibition

SUMMARY:Terra Nexus
DESCRIPTION:A labyrinth of 17 interconnected artist worlds\, questioning the role of The Human As Part of Ecology. An immersive exhibition designed with social distancing. Curated by Gabriella Sonabend. \nSol Bailey-barker\, Rebecca Bellantoni\, Alice Bucknell\, Alice Cazenave\, Tom Chisholm\, Helena Doyle\, Finchittida Finch\, Hannah Fletcher\, Tom Lines\, Amanda Lwin\, Cristiano Di Martino\, Charlotte Osborne\, Andrea Phillips\, Catriona Robertson\, Wr Saunders\, Sara Trillo\, Triptych\, Food Of War (Omar Castañeda & Hernan Barros)\, Jack Warne\, Emma Jane Whitton\, Wumzum \nTerra Nexus is an immersive experience featuring 25 artists produced by Proposition Studios. It invites the audience into a multi-sensory labyrinthine of interconnected worlds to unravel a story which weaves together diverse insights into our relationship with the biosphere. \nStarting with the fundamental idea that we need to shift away from a narrative of human dominion and independence in order to protect the biosphere\, installations explore: the necessity of living soil; the perpetual migration of species; the cascading threat of impending extinctions; ways to reconnect with nature; conflict arising from depleted resources; the future of cities and how humans will live within them. From the perspectives of insects and animals\, through the eyes of scientists\, artificial intelligence\, plant life\, ancient cultures and conflicting contemporary viewpoints; Terra Nexus is a wormhole of ideas. \nWarping sensory experiences\, excavating\, weaving between co-existing timelines and suggesting alternative histories; this is the first of a series of immersive projects by Proposition Studios asking the viewer to raise their own questions about THE HUMAN AS PART OF ECOLOGY and what that means today and for future generations. \nIn preparation for this project the exhibiting artists took part in an intensive research residency\, visiting sites where human intervention has dramatically increased biodiversity while providing for human needs: Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden in Devon\, Knepp Rewilding in Sussex and Prof. Wolfe’s Wakelyns Agroforestry in Suffolk while also meeting the renowned science writer and trailblazing food campaigner Colin Tudge in Oxford. \nThese world experts who are working to regenerate landscapes and address global food problems have inspired artworks that respond to their cutting edge science\, ecological agriculture\, environmental activism and deeply researched and practical ideas.

SUMMARY:An Unidentified Friendly Object has been spotted over east London…
DESCRIPTION:Stop what you’re doing: a UFO has been spotted over East London… and may or may not crash land on 23rd June. We’ve heard it’s going to be beaming members of the public up into space. Six in 10 Brits think an alien invasion is inevitable\, and now we know why…1 The thing is\, this isn’t any UFO – it’s an unidentified friendly object\, and it’s come from Beavertown Brewery. \nHosted at Dray Walk Gallery on ‘freedom weekend’\, the 23rd and 24th July\, Beavertown Brewery will be taking its love of all things space to the next level with an interactive UFO optical illusion and buzzing pop-up party\, encouraging punters to come and take pictures of themselves being beamed up to space by a life-sized spaceship. \nUsing clever otherworldly illusion tricks to give the impression of floating above the ground\, punters will have the chance to get creative with their abduction images for some pretty awesome Insta-worthy content. Once the winning shot has been snapped\, abductees are encouraged to share their pictures on Instagram and Twitter and tag @BeavertownBeer for the chance to win a year’s supply of Beavertown beer. \nThat’s not all. Alongside the UFO installation\, Beavertown is hosting a vibey beer and music-filled pop-up party as part of its ‘friendly invasion’ at Dray Walk Gallery. Complete with free beer\, awesome giveaways and a live DJ\, the pop-up is the perfect place to grab a drink and spend some much needed time with mates after the past 18 months of lockdown restrictions. \nSo what are you waiting for? Grab your tinfoil hat and head down to east London for the friendliest alien invasion the capital’s ever seen.

SUMMARY:Richard Smith: Intersections
DESCRIPTION:Flowers Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of works by British artist Richard Smith CBE (1931 – 2016). Recognised as one of the most influential painters of his generation\, Smith’s work of five decades evades precise categorisation\, with an expansive abstract painterly style very much his own. \nThe exhibition coincides with the launch of a major new publication Richard Smith: Artworks 1954-2013\, with essays by David Alan Mellor\, Chris Stephens\, Alex Massouras and Martin Harrison. This new study is intended to reignite discourse around this diverse artist\, whose impressive oeuvre is fertile territory for a new reassessment. Also concurrently on view is Richard Smith: Kites at the Edge Art Centre\, University of Bath until 17 December\, 2022. \nThis exhibition presents a survey of works from 1965 to 2009\, focusing on intersections of colour\, form and material construction. Included are a selection of Smith’s critically acclaimed paintings on three dimensional canvases from the 1960s\, including A Whole Year and Half a Day VIII (1966)\, formerly exhibited at his solo exhibition for the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1970. During this period Smith created monumental sculptural shaped canvases\, which explored a radical new tension between volume\, colour and surface. In A Whole Year and Half a Day VIII\, the canvas appears to unfurl playfully from the wall\, while in Triptych\, 1965\, three vivid carton-like panels protrude into the space of the gallery\, recalling the bold impact of advertising hoardings. \nOther works take this experimentation with shaped supports in new directions. In works such as Maryland (1972)\, and A Dark Present (1972) horizontal and vertical tapes intersect with the surface of the canvas. Here\, Smith’s interest in the hidden grid-like warp and weft of the canvas is accented by its interwoven construction at an enlarged scale. \nAlso presented are a selection of Smith’s works on paper which provide enriching further insights into the paintings around them. Purple\, Red and Green Intersections (1969) exemplifies the ways in which Smith uses bold colour to delineate forms\, while also employing sculptural strategies such as cuts and folds\, creating a striking sense of depth and structure in their two-dimensional surfaces.

SUMMARY:Supermodels Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In the eerie setting of a building site awaiting refurbishment\, multidisciplinary design and architecture studio Piercy&Company presents a performance of animated models of their buildings and projects – reconnecting our digital and physical worlds through a childlike sense of wonder and delight as their amazing models spring into life. \nResonating with the mysterious allure of miniature objects with lives of their own – think doll’s houses\, cuckoo clocks and model railways – Supermodels employs mechanical automata\, projection mapping\, scent and lighting to create a new\, more engaging way of communicating architectural concepts. \nExploring exciting new possibilities for an age-old form of architectural communication\, Supermodels distils the studio’s 20 years of research into the sensory and haptic dimensions of architecture. Each model encapsulates the essence of Piercy&Company‘s design approach to building typologies spanning from commercial developments to churches. \nThe models were handmade by Piercy&Company’s architecture team to explore and test experiential aspects of architecture\, including the spatial\, the tectonic and the tactile. \n  \nDates \nFriday 25 November until Sunday 11 December \n  \nOpening Hours \n12pm-7pm Monday to Friday \n12pm-5pm Saturday and Sunday \nor by appointment supermodels@piercyandco.com \n  \n  \nAddress \nJahn Court\, Regent Quarter \n34 York Way (entrance of York Way) \nLondon \nN1 9AB

SUMMARY:For Data You Are\, And To Data You Shall Return / 为数据所生，亦归数据而去
DESCRIPTION:For Data You Are\, And To Data You Shall Return is an online exhibition of generative\, video and gamified works exploring diverse perspectives surrounding digital death\, renewal and reincarnation in the virtual domain. Surveying the nuance of long-standing and newer ruminations around the circularity of life and death\, in technological\, bodily\, and spiritual contexts\, the exhibition sees death as a narrative with which to discuss life. Death in the digital world is\, in a particular dimension\, describable\, observable\, and even manufacturable\, as well as manageable and repairable. Life in the digital world is\, on the contrary\, more mysterious. \n\n\n\nThe online exhibition comprises works that span a range of digital media processes and outcomes; from hypnotic encounters with concealed code to custom playful gamifications\, and planetary-scale simulations\, the exhibition presents expanded video practices\, role-playing narratives and reconnection with devices and their material origins\, drawing links between communications across ethers and the encounters of rogue or unknown agents acting on behalf of their meatspace counterparts. Decay\, sites of renewal\, and rethinking our existence in the digital and environmental domain are foregrounded. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition title is a subtle twist on the theological reference in the book of Genesis which infers non-immortality. This concept aligns with the Chinese Buddhist philosophy of “sheng-si-lun-hui\,” which is tied to the idea of karma and its role as social currency in the afterlife. By imbuing the interface with a uniquely generative background – a mystical quality of exposing the underside of codified processes – and by referring to data as the dust you shall return to\, the exhibition seeks to symbolise this continuous cycle of existence of all things. \n\n\n\nAccess the project here.

Epic Games have leveraged the success of their popular video game Fortnite to produce powerful development tools that now have been adopted by the wider film\, fashion\, music and arts and industries. \n\n\n\nOver the last decade Unreal Engine has become a fixture in fine art production\, its visual effects and overall aesthetics are recognisable in many contemporary artists’ work. This series of workshops aims to explore the use of Unreal Engine in fine art practice\, demystify the engine and introduce participants to many of its features and use cases. \n\n\n\nSAT 10 FEB: Intro to UE5 Blueprints \n\n\n\nThis intermediate workshop will explore how to set up and code simple interactions using Unreal Engine’s node-based scripting language\, Blueprints. \n\n\n\nSAT 17 FEB: Preparing custom 3D assets for UE5 \n\n\n\nThis intermediate workshop explores how to bring your own 3D models to the Unreal Engine and how to set up materials within the Unreal Engine shader editor. The session covers hero assets; preparing a game ready object in Blender; creating custom materials; and optimising game assets. \n\n\n\nSAT 24 FEB: Building a UE5 Project \n\n\n\nThis intermediate workshop explores how to build an Unreal Engine project for desktop. The session covers tips for optimising your scenes in UE5; audio systems and options for UE5; and building and displaying a UE5 project.

SUMMARY:Theatrical Ceramics & Sculptural String
DESCRIPTION:In an unlikely collaboration\, Essex-born award winning ceramicist David Millidge and Brighton’s own alternative goth sculptor Sam Jacobs\, unite their contrasting art forms to create a cohesive experience that is both theatrical and tactile. \nMillidge\, known for his distinctive figurative ceramic sculptures\, offers his new works ‘The Precious Orbs Collection’ a glimpse into a world where each unique\, handmade ceramic sculpture boasts intricate patterns and forms\, inviting viewers to ponder the delicate balance between beauty and functionality. \nSam challenges perceptions with her self-supporting sculptures crafted from string and rope through macramé and fisherman’s knotting techniques. Her works are a testament to the strength found in vulnerability\, reflecting her personal journey and the environment that shapes her.

SUMMARY:Imagine That! : Solo Art Exhibition by The Cameron Twins
DESCRIPTION:Imagine That! is the latest solo exhibition by The Cameron Twins\, opening at Protein Studios in East London and celebrating imagination through a playful\, nostalgic lens! \nThe exhibition brings together a wide range of works\, including large hand-pulled silkscreen prints\, collage\, mixed-media canvases\, sculpture\, and large-scale installation. The show will be open to the public from Friday\, 27th February to Saturday\, 28th February from 10 am to 7 pm each day. \n” Childhood is full of wild invention\, messy logic and unfiltered fun\, where fantasy is instinctive and always alive…but as we grow older\, that same sense of whimsy and wonder often fades. ‘Imagine that!’ playfully explores the tension between childhood and adulthood\, the ongoing tug-of-war between responsibility and fun\, and the internal battle to keep imagination alive. It celebrates the effort it takes to stay playful\, and the stubborn persistence of childhood imagination that refuses to behave!” – The Cameron Twins \nThe Cameron Twins are identical twins and contemporary British artists whose practice centres on hand-pulled screen printing\, layered processes\, and expressive hand-painted mark-making to create emotionally charged works rooted in nostalgia\, childhood imagery\, and pop culture. Over a short period of time\, they have built a dedicated international following\, and their work has been sold at Bonhams\, is held in significant private collections\, and has led to collaborations with brands including Bang & Olufsen\, LØCI\, and Gresham Blake. \nOpen to the Public: Friday 27th & Saturday 28th February\, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm (both days) \nLocation: Protein Studios\, 31 New Inn Yard\, London EC2A 3EY \n
