SUMMARY:Broken Ivy/Fence Off | Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Broken Ivy\nMusic: Florence Lloyd\nLibretto: Vivian Bayliss \nFence Off\nMusic: Ruben Doda\nLibretto: Rebekah King \nBroken Ivy & Fence Off are a pair of chamber operas created by emerging composers from the Royal Academy of Music.\nThe evening brings two worlds onto one stage: a vivid\, fast-moving programme where different musical languages\, cultural perspectives and theatrical styles collide. \nIn “Broken Ivy”\, English folklore becomes ecological myth: nature is not the backdrop\, but the protagonist\, telling a story of human overreach and its natural nemesis. \nIn “Fence Off!”\, a fencing duel becomes an operatic battle of consciousness: two women trapped on opposite sides of perfection\, where every movement exposes vulnerabilities\, privilege\, and ambition. \nCome to the second show this evening for two more operas for an evening moving between folklore\, psychological drama\, political urgency\, and domestic comedy\, The Breaking Point offers opera with pace\, contrast\, and sharp theatrical images. It asks what happens when the forces around us — nature\, language\, competition\, media\, love — stop staying in the background and start to break the sense of what we are. \n  \nGet your tickets HERE

DESCRIPTION:Sing4 Nok6\, and other broken things\nMusic: Ng Kwun Ho / Jerry Fryderyk\nLibretto: Courtney Cousins \nMeet The Philips\nMusic: Alessandro Mackinnon-Botti\nLibretto: Wilkie Robson \nSing4 Nok6\, and other broken things and Meet The Philips are a pair of chamber operas created by emerging composers from the Royal Academy of Music.\nThe evening brings two worlds onto one stage: a vivid\, fast-moving programme where different musical languages\, cultural perspectives and theatrical styles collide. \nIn “Sing4 Nok6\, and other broken things”\, cultural erasure becomes a live struggle between imposed and remembered\, where singing itself becomes resistance. \nIn “Meet The Philips”\, an entire marriage unfolds in one domestic space\, with the TV as the couple’s third wheel: comic\, invasive\, intimate\, and quietly devastating. \nCome to the first show this evening for two more operas for an evening moving between folklore\, psychological drama\, political urgency\, and domestic comedy\, The Breaking Point offers opera with pace\, contrast\, and sharp theatrical images. SUMMARY:Frankenstein | Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Notated music and performance: CN Lester\nElectronic music and soundscapes: ILĀ\nLibretto\, direction\, spoken word performance: Jamie Hale \nThis 60 minute hybrid work strips Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to its core question: is it right to create new life in a fractured and suffering world? \nCombining sung voice\, spoken voice\, and electronica\, Frankenstein’s Offie-Award-winning proof of concept opened to universal critical and audience praise at Barbican in November 2025. Now\, this full new interpretation of the classic text marries notated music and operatic vocals from CN Lester (‘Captivating\, hypnotic’ – Opera) with libretto\, direction and spoken word performance from Jamie Hale (Evening Standard Director / Theatremaker of the Year 2021 – ‘fantastic’ – Hannah Gadsby) and electronic musical soundscapes from ILĀ (‘a masterclass in sound design’ – Attitude). Shifting and distorting\, Frankenstein is neither opera\, nor sound installation\, nor straight theatrical performance\, but a hybrid expression of embodiment that puts trans and disabled voices at the heart of what it is to be monstered\, and what it is to be free. \n  \nGet your tickets HERE

SUMMARY:History Has No Safe Word | Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Professor Nathan Zangari is fading away.\nOnce voted the sexiest professor on BBC2’s Open University\, his highly celebrated archeo-linguistics paper on “Graffiti\, Women and the Walls of Pompeii” is now but a distant memory.\nNow\, he can’t sleep\, he can’t get published\, and… he can’t get laid.\nAt the sleep-study clinic that he’s enrolled at\, they observe him talking in his sleep\, seemingly an intermediary for a long-forgotten Pompeian girl. \nWhen overambitious student\, Callie\, offers to capture his mumblings\, they both find themselves sucked into the very real lives of those on the edge of destruction\, some 2000 years ago. \n“… masterful stagecraft … immersive and engaging throughout… a highly accomplished piece of writing and performance… a visceral portrayal of life in Pompeii on the eve of the infamous Vesuvian eruption in 79 CE. \nBrown clearly knows his history\, and the way he brings Pompeii to life is nothing short of astonishing. There is a gripping action scene in the second half that had my wife reaching out her arms to intervene\, so immersed was she in the story. \nIf historical drama is your thing\, you’re in for a treat.”  Fringe Review\, 2026. \n  \nGet your tickets HERE

SUMMARY:Mirrors - When Silence Breaks\, Hope Rises | Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:MIRRORS\nBY Ada Tsesmeli Edwards \nTwice awarded by the Cultural Centre of Northern Greece for Playwright & Direction \nAbout the performance \nThere comes a moment in life when each of us must look into the mirror and face our own reflection.\nBut how ready are we to truly confront what we see?\nAnd what happens when the shadows of others blur the image before us? \nMirrors is a deeply human and profoundly timely play about the truth of existence – a lyrical yet powerful exploration of the essence of life. \nThree women\, in three different cities:\nin New York\, Linda Anderson\, a bank employee;\nin Thessaloniki\, Corinna Papadaki\, an office worker;\nand in Rome\, Malena Conti\, a lyrical mezzo-soprano. \nEach stands before the dead end of an unfulfilled and empty life.\nTime\, memory\, and the fragile balances of their personalities reveal that those who once defined them are now nothing more than shadows in the mirror of their souls. \nThrough a painful yet liberating journey\, the three heroines reach a place of redemption.\nThey find the strength to shed everything that distorts their reflection. \nMirrors illuminate – with both grace and intensity – the fragments of memory we consciously or unconsciously push toward oblivion.\nFor the closer one dares to approach their own mirror\, the more dangerous and courageous the journey becomes.

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Stephanie Phillips (Big Joanie): In Conversation & Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:We Were Here: A History of Black People and Alternative Music\n\n\n\nStephanie Phillips joins The Long Play Sessions and discusses We Were Here as she rewrites the story of rock ’n’ roll and alternative music\, placing Black artists at the heart of a history they’ve always helped shape. \n\nFrom pioneering figures such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, Little Richard\, Jimi Hendrix\, Tina Turner\, Betty Davis\, Poly Styrene and Bad Brains to today’s trailblazing musicians\, Stephanie Phillips reveals the profound influence of Black creativity on alternative music across nearly a century.\n\n\n\nExploring why Black artists have continued to embrace alternative music despite being marginalised by the mainstream industry\, Phillips makes a compelling case that there is no alternative music without Black innovation. Looking ahead\, she celebrates a new generation of Gen Z musicians redefining the possibilities of punk\, metal\, hardcore and indie\, and shaping the future of the genre.
