SUMMARY:Time Clocks Book Launch with Yoav Avni
DESCRIPTION:A book launch and conversation with Israeli author Yoav Avni\, celebrating the English-language publication of Time Clocks by Roundfire Books. \nAvni will discuss the novel\, its journey from Hebrew into English\, and the ideas behind its blend of time travel\, artificial intelligence\, humor and questions about how we experience the present. \nThe evening will include conversation\, a reading from the book\, audience Q&A and signing. \nWhen Boaz is summoned to a furious dismissal meeting at the company where he has spent years developing FocalAI\, better known as the nation’s AI\, everything in his familiar\, comfortable office feels like a personal possession — even the door\, the window\, the air\, the time that had passed. \nBy nightfall\, he is cast out into the desolate industrial zone outside his office\, stripped of his phone\, his car\, and perhaps soon his relationship. The future looms\, threatening and uncertain. \nThen\, three strangers appear\, raising questions not about the future but about the past: a police officer who lost her memory in the ’80s (and maybe it is just as well); a flamboyant French dandy from the nineteenth century; and a wounded shepherd from biblical times\, clad in armor and tassels. \nAs his own life unravels\, Boaz feels compelled to discover why these three have arrived at his side. Why…

SUMMARY:Write & Shine: City of Subterfuge - Elizabeth Bowen and Muriel Spark (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Join Write & Shine bright and early\, live from The London Library for a 90-minute virtual writing workshop exploring London as a city of espionage\, secrecy and hidden lives. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll read fiction by London Library members Muriel Spark (1918–2006)\, whose novel The Hothouse by the East River channels her work in wartime intelligence and explores how the past continues to haunt the present\, and Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)\, whose masterpiece The Heat of the Day\, set in 1942\, places London at the heart of intrigue\, betrayal and shifting allegiances. We’ll think about the ways London lends itself to stories of secrecy: a city of subterfuge\, coded messages\, overheard conversations and shadowy encounters. \nThis workshop is part of a series of morning writing sessions led by author Gemma Seltzer\, inspired by The London Library’s rich literary heritage. Together we’ll uncover London as a secret city—a landscape of dreams\, disguises and shadows. \nWrite & Shine workshops take place in the early morning light – the best time to think\, dream and imagine! You won’t be expected to share your writing\, which offers great freedom and encourages all kinds of fascinating ideas to emerge. \nOur events programme is presented in partnership with Hakluyt & Company\, the global strategic advisory firm for businesses and investors. \nNB This is an online workshop via Zoom. Please log in at 7:30am for 7:45am start. You will be sent a Zoom link a few days before the workshop (if you do not receive it\, please check your junk file or email us).

SUMMARY:Hejira – Celebrating Joni Mitchell | The Exchange Theater Twickenham
DESCRIPTION:Hejira – Celebrating Joni Mitchell\n\nAn outstanding 7-piece band set up to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell\, mostly from the late ‘70s.\n\nHaving released the albums ‘The Hissing of Summer Lawns’\, ‘Hejira’\, ‘Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter’ and ‘Mingus’\, Joni then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous musicians (Pat Metheny\, Lyle Mays\, Michael Brecker\, Jaco Pastorius and Don Alias).\n\nThe tour was recorded\, producing the much-lauded live album\, ‘Shadows And Light’; it is from this work that the band Hejira is drawing the spirit and body of its repertoire. Comprising highly experienced\, world class musicians\, Hejira is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead who not only has – in her own way – assimilated the poise\, power and beauty of Joni’s vocals\, but also plays guitar with Joni’s stylistic mannerisms.\n\nExpect an evening of the ‘great’ songs from Mitchell’s back catalogue!\n\nHattie Whitehead – vocals; guitars\nPete Oxley – guitars\nOllie Weston – saxaphones; bass clarinet\nChris Eldred – keyboards\nDave Jones – bass\nRick Finlay – drums\nMarc Cecil – percussion

SUMMARY:THE YUMMY FUR - album launch! + BRUNO BOF | Upset the Rhythm
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nTHE YUMMY FUR – album launch!\nBRUNO BOF\nFriday 9 October\nThe Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB\n7.30pm | £12 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Eb344d50313e \nTHE YUMMY FUR’s first album of new material in over 25 years is seductive and ambiguous; a fast-paced flip through scenes from art\, myth\, life and fantasy; a witty whole made from glittering scraps. The band’s original incarnation – fronted by singer\, songwriter and guitarist John McKeown from 1992 to 1999 – morphed from making quick-hit cartoon-art songs to Eno and Cale-influenced creepers\, populated by characters from McKeown’s life in Glasgow and the films\, books and poetry that he lived a parallel life through. Everybody Talks About The Weather (out on Sep 24th through Upset The Rhythm) delights in using every past iteration of the band as potent collage material: a melee of sounds and ideas existing at once\, revealing themselves then dipping back into hiding. \nRecorded by the original core trio of McKeown\, Brian MacDougall (guitar) and Paul Thomson (drums)\, Everybody Talks About The Weather comes 17 years after the band reformed for sporadic live shows\, and seven years after the release of their sorta-greatest hits compilation Piggy Wings (Rock Action). Ten tracks long with nothing to spare\, it is as condensed and vital as their best songs\, with a new clarity of sound that allows their ambiguities to come into the light.\nhttps://theyummyfur.bandcamp.com/album/piggy-wings \nBRUNO BOF accompanied by live band playing songs heretofore unheard! The once pre-teen punk prodigy has finally grown up\, in so much as he and his Outrageous Methods Of Presentation release their debut single proper – the double AA sided single featuring two songs of completely different styles that work well together\, each clocking in at around 1 minute 30 seconds. Bruno says of them: “Tire Iron is an anarchistic salutation from a parallel universe where the king of rock ’n’ roll’s name is misspelled Hasil Adkins. This is all of the truth in the universe; the sound of angels kissing”. “You Know I Love You’ is a paean to the eternal salvation of love\, albeit one that comes off like a disturbing Chinn and Chapman song”. In the current climate it’s often only kids from affluent backgrounds that can afford to be creative. Bedminster’s Bruno Bof breaks that mould and his voice is authentic and passionate. \nhttps://linktr.ee/brunobof \n

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions | Steve Mason: In Conversation and Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Scottish singer-songwriter and Beta Band founder Steve Mason joins The Long Play Sessions to discuss his long-awaited memoir\, Failure Is Always an Option – a candid\, hilarious and deeply personal account of one of British music’s most fascinating and uncompromising careers.\n\n\n\nFrom the Beta Band’s genre-defying rise in the late 1990s to sold-out tours with Radiohead\, critical acclaim and spectacular self-sabotage\, Steve reflects on the highs\, lows and chaos of a life lived entirely on his own terms. Blending sharp wit with remarkable honesty\, he explores youth culture\, creativity\, addiction\, failure\, success and redemption\, setting the record straight—or\, as he puts it\, “straight-ish.”\n\n\n\nCelebrated by contemporaries including Oasis\, Primal Scream\, The Chemical Brothers\, The Verve and Radiohead\, the Beta Band became one of Britain’s most influential cult bands\, renowned for their fearless experimentation and unforgettable live performances. Following their acclaimed reunion and sold-out return to the stage\, Steve now looks back on the extraordinary story behind the music in what promises to be an unforgettable evening.\n\n\n\nThe event includes an in-depth conversation with Steve and acclaimed author and journalist Travis Elborough\, an audience Q&A\, and a book signing\, with copies of Failure Is Always an Option available to purchase on the night. \n\nWhether you’re a lifelong Beta Band fan or simply love great stories from the world of music\, this is a rare opportunity to hear from one of Britain’s most original and enigmatic artists.

DESCRIPTION:scenecollapser x Shadow World Presents:\n\n\n\nTHEA GRANT\n\n\nLast seen with Jenny Hval across the UK and EU in 2025\, this is a new era of deeply evocative conceptual sound design; heart wrenching\, abstract composition overflowing with yearning and romanticism. Unmissable.\n\n\n\nREALITY\n\n\nBuilding on nearly three decades of activity within countercultural creative spaces in punk\, metal and avant-garde\, REALITY explores constructivist philosophies\, transcendent experiences and a sprawling collection of creative touch points. Heavy and emotional.\n\n\n\nRIEKO\n\n\nRitualistic experimental pop from Japanese-American multidisciplinary artist\, musician\, and co-founder of Diasporas Now. Echoing\, incantation-like vocals over electronic and club rhythms; drawing on Japanese folk lullabies\, heavy metal\, and rave culture alike.\n\n\n\nREMOTE VIEWING\n\n\nNoise-rock\, hardcore\, post-rock\, shoegaze from folks from Abjure\, Palehorse\, Million Dead\, and Sly & The Family Drone. Heavy riffs\, with hearty nods to Art of Burning Water\, Knut and Curl Up And Die.\n\n\n\n3D JESUS\n\n\nPost-rock with well-considered free improvisations\, that recall the expansive experimentalism of Constellation Records‘ more raucous moments\, and the raw intimacy and post-folk of Pygmy Lush. Debut full length\, Roadside Shrines\, might even be out by this gig. But don’t count on it.

SUMMARY:Comedy Club 4 Kids | The Exchange Theatre Twickenham
DESCRIPTION:A taste of some of the biggest names in comedy – for kids and their grown-ups!\n\n\nIt’s a comedy club\, right\, but for kids. Also any adults who enjoy a swear-free hour with the international circuit’s best stand-ups and sketch acts. Non-patronizing. Pure awesome. \nSince 2005\, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits! A decade later\, the company has expanded from one London residency to being countrywide\, running shows and workshops all over the UK from Peebles to Portsmouth\, even producing a book on how to write and perform stand-up. The show is family friendly\, but without any patronizing idiocy. In fact\, it’s just like a normal comedy club\, but it’s on in the day\, kids are allowed in\, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of heckles like “why is that your face!?” \n\n\n\n\n Please note all audience members must be 6+ \n\n\n\n\nFor more information about Comedy Club 4 Kids events and line up please visit Comedy Club 4 Kids Website \nTickets: \nAdult £14 \nChild £10 \nFamily of 4 £40 (2 adults\, 2 children or 1 adult\, 3 children)

SUMMARY:The Lure of… : October | Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Join the team behind the independent investigative news outlet Byline Times for an entertaining evening of challenging discussion to help us understand the unprecedented times we are living in  – and why they are happening – with those with an inside track. \nThere’s no shortage of strong opinions in Britain today – what’s missing is good-faith debate. Too much of our national conversation has become performative. It seems designed to inflame rather than illuminate. \nThat’s why Byline Times launched our series of ‘Out of the Comfort Zone’ events at the Cockpit in 2025. These interactive discussions have sparked genuinely unexpected and illuminating moments. \nAt a time when many of Britain’s most powerful media proprietors remain distant and unseen\, Byline Times does the opposite: we step out from behind the editorial line and into the room. \nHosted by Byline Times Editor-in-Chief Hardeep Matharu and Co-Founder Peter Jukes\, plus a wide-ranging variety of guest authors\, campaigners and thought leaders. Previous guests have included: broadcaster and academic Bonnie Greer\, journalist and activist Femi Oluwole\, novelist Jake Arnott\, Camerados founder Maff Potts\, XR and Humanity Project co-founder Clare Farrell\, author and Women’s Equality Party co-founder Catherine Mayer\, Conservative commentator Albie Amankona\, investigative journalist and author Nafeez Ahmed\, Asylum Speakers founder Jaz O’Hara\, author and broadcaster John Sweeney and many many more… \nIn addition to current affairs\, there’s also laughter\, readings\, music\, poetry – there’s even been dancing and a good old sing song round the old Joanna – every night is different!

SUMMARY:Colin Manford - off The Record - Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Colin Manford returns with Off The Record- the music investigation nobody asked for\, but absolutely needed. \nA fast-paced\, storytelling stand-up show that digs into the strangest stories\, myths and mysteries hiding in the world of pop music. \nFrom iconic songs and bizarre recording sessions to misheard lyrics\, urban legends and the questionable behaviour of certain celebrities\, Colin pulls apart the moments we all think we know… and reveals the nonsense underneath. Expect detective-style breakdowns\, wild theories\, visual evidence\, audience interaction\, and a level of confidence about facts that really shouldn’t be delivered with confidence. \nFresh from packed shows across the UK\, Colin blends observational stand-up with multimedia chaos\, cartoon noir slides\, and forensic overanalysis of songs that probably don’t deserve it. It’s silly\, clever\, daft and a genuinely unique take on music-based comedy. \n
