SUMMARY:Versus Arts Presents In-Between Spaces: A Solo Exhibition by Muslum Teke Curated by Ilayda Uzunarslan
DESCRIPTION:In-between Spaces brings together works by Turkish painter Muslum Teke\, whose practice centers on the human face as a site of psychological depth and inner reflection. \nMoving between figuration and abstraction\, Teke approaches the face not merely as a physical form\, but as a vessel of emotion\, memory\, and unspoken experience. His layered surfaces and expressive brushwork reveal the fragile boundary between visibility and feeling; between presence and absence. \nWorking primarily with oil and acrylic\, Teke embraces the materiality of paint as a trace of thought and sensation. Rather than offering fixed narratives\, his works open a contemplative space\, inviting viewers into a silent dialogue with the human condition.

SUMMARY:Wolves\, Folklore\, and Family: Reading and Discussion with Zuzana Rihova
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed Czech writer and scholar Zuzana Říhová joins Dr Kathryn Murphy (University of Oxford) for an informal evening of readings and discussion of her novel Playing Wolf\, a contemporary tale set in the Czech countryside. \nA couple move from Prague with their young son to a remote village in the hope of repairing their failing marriage. As they attempt to settle in\, they encounter a closed community shaped by unspoken rules\, strange coincidences\, and fragments of local folklore. Using the familiar tale of Little Red Riding Hood\, subtly woven into the narrative\, the story illuminates themes of vulnerability\, trust\, and hidden menace. \nBlending psychological insight with folkloric resonance\, Playing Wolf explores how myths and inherited stories continue to influence behaviour and relationships in the present day. The conversation will reflect on the role of folklore and fairy-tale motifs in the novel\, and on how quiet tensions within families and communities can slowly transform lives. \nZuzana Říhová studied Czech language and literature and comparative literature at Charles University in Prague. She has published a collection of poetry\, Pustím si tě do domu (I’ll Let You in My House)\, and a novella\, Evička (Little Eve). \nAlex Zucker’s translations include novels by Magdaléna Platzová\, Jáchym Topol\, Bianca Bellová\, Petra Hůlová\, and Tomáš Zmeškal. He has also translated plays\, subtitles\, young adult and children’s books\, poems\, philosophy\, art history\, and an opera. \nKathryn Murphy is Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oriel College\, Oxford\, where she writes about and teaches seventeenth-century literature. Her book\, Robert Burton: A Vital Melancholy is forthcoming from Reaktion. She studied Czech literature at the University of Glasgow\, and reviews Czech fiction for the Times Literary Supplement. \nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook Here \nZuzana Říhová will also appear in Oxford the day before\, on Wednesday 4 March 2026\, for a special event at The Queen’s College exploring poetry in translation alongside a reading from Playing Wolf. The Oxford evening will include discussion\, a book signing and refreshments. Free entry. More info

The first series is inspired by Karl Popper and explores the idea of truth as provisional and constantly shifting. SUMMARY:Franz + Q&A with director Agnieszka Holland and actor Josef Trojan
DESCRIPTION:Agnieszka Holland charts the burgeoning talent and tragically short life of the Czech writer. \n\nSelected as Poland’s official Oscar submission\, Agnieszka Holland’s bold and dynamic portrait of Franz Kafka finds a creative young man at odds with the world. Franz is torn between a stern father and the monotony of his job at an insurance company\, and an overwhelming desire to write. What emerges is an author who transforms his lived experiences into a vision of a bureaucratic world that edges towards nightmare. Idan Weiss excels as the young Kafka with Josef Trojan skilfully playing his alter ego and Tomasz Naumiuk’s camera beautifully conjures up early 20th-century Prague. \nPart of the 24th Kinoteka Polish Film Festival organised by Polish Cultural Institute. \nDir. Agnieszka Holland\, Czech Republic-Poland-Germany-France-Turkey 2025\, 127min\, English subtitles\nWith: Idan Weiss\, Peter Kurth\, Jenovéfa Boková\, Carol Schuler\, Josef Trojan \n\nBOOK NOW

SUMMARY:The Borgen Project - Informational Event
DESCRIPTION:This informational event offers an introduction to The Borgen Project\, a non-partisan international organisation dedicated to reducing global poverty through policy advocacy\, public engagement\, and citizen-led action. The session is designed for students\, young professionals\, and members of the public who are interested in global development\, international affairs\, and the role of advocacy in shaping effective public policy. \n\n\nGlobal poverty remains one of the most pressing challenges of our time. Despite decades of progress\, conflict\, climate change\, economic instability\, and reductions in development assistance continue to threaten vulnerable populations worldwide. This event aims to provide clear\, accessible insight into how global poverty is addressed at the policy level\, and why political engagement remains a critical tool in achieving long-term\, sustainable solutions. \n\n\nDuring the session\, attendees will be introduced to the mission and activities of The Borgen Project\, with an overview of how the organisation engages with the public on issues related to global poverty and international development. The presentation will outline the relationship between policy decisions and development outcomes\, including how government priorities and public engagement can shape approaches to poverty reduction\, food security\, health\, and education. The focus will be on explaining these dynamics clearly and accessibly\, rather than advocating for a specific political position. \n\n\nThe event will also offer an overview of current global development issues\, including the impact of cuts to overseas development assistance\, the links between poverty and global security\, and the growing role of youth engagement in international policy discussions. Rather than focusing on abstract concepts\, the session will highlight real-world examples of how advocacy efforts have contributed to measurable policy outcomes in recent years. \n\n\nThis is an informational and discussion-focused event. It does not require prior knowledge of global development or policy\, and is intended to be accessible to anyone with an interest in international issues and social impact. There will be time for questions\, allowing participants to engage directly with the topics presented and to better understand how individual actions can contribute to broader policy change. \n\n\nAttendance is open to all\, and the event is suitable for those curious about global poverty\, advocacy\, and international development\, as well as for those considering further involvement in civic engagement\, NGOs\, or policy-related careers. While the session introduces opportunities for engagement\, its primary aim is to inform and raise awareness\, rather than to fundraise or promote a specific campaign. \n\n\nBy the end of the event\, participants will have a clearer understanding of how global poverty is addressed through policy\, the role organisations like The Borgen Project play in advocacy efforts\, and the ways in which informed citizens can participate meaningfully in shaping development outcomes.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Through Her Eyes
DESCRIPTION:Anna Kiparis\, Tatiana Fetisova\, and Olga Bonitas in the exhibition Through Her Eyes \nThe Kult Talk hosts the exhibition Through Her Eyes\, featuring three artists whose work is informed by lived experience and expressed in individual visual languages. The exhibition explores the translation of lived experience: motherhood\, play\, and the search for inner harmony – into visual language\, color\, and symbolization in a nuanced exploration of the self in the present day. \nAnna Kiparis‘ painting style can be described as a system of play. In her works like The Piece\, Panopticon and Carousel\, and Carousel\, Anna Kiparis creates her own framework using elements of games like chess\, cards\, and circular movements. The cow is an element that can be found in all of Anna Kiparis’ works\, both as an element that participates in the game and as an element that observes the game. \nTatiana Fetisova‘s style can be described as “balloonized realism.” In her works like Balancing and Chasing the Air\, Tatiana combines elements of figurative painting with elements of inflated objects that serve both as metaphors for vision and emotion. \nWorks by Olga Bonitas are included in the exhibition from her series Watching Them Grow in watercolour: Tree Adventure\, High up above and Not Just a Tree. Informed by the lived experience of motherhood\, Bonitas’s work addresses the often-unnecessary tension between creative practice and motherhood. The works are created in a fragile but direct manner to prioritize the lived experience of motherhood from the margins to the center of creative practice. \nThe artists’ works can be described as three perspectives that connect with each other in terms of perception and experience. The artists’ works in this exhibition encourage viewers to look at the ways in which personal realities are constructed\, negotiated\, and re-imagined in contemporary art. \nMore information: http://thekulttalk.com/project/Through-Her-Eyes

SUMMARY:Empowering Her
DESCRIPTION:Empowering Her is an unapologetic body of work that confronts who is seen\, who is celebrated\, and who has historically been left in the shadows. The opening portrait of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe\, the British-Iranian campaigner and former political prisoner\, sets a clear tone rooted in visibility\, dignity\, and presence. \nThrough a series of large-scale\, finely rendered portraits\, Empowering Her reclaims portraiture as a space in which women’s stories are seen and their achievements honoured with the respect they merit. The work explores recognition\, representation\, and power\, questioning whose stories are recorded\, whose leadership is acknowledged\, and whose experiences are overlooked. \nSpeaking about the project\, Caroline said: “For centuries\, portraiture has reinforced who matters. Empowering Her reclaims that space as one of recognition\, not perfection\, but presence\, and these portraits are about honesty\, dignity\, and being fully seen.” \nThe women portrayed in Empowering Her span public life\, culture\, science\, sport\, and activism and include: \n\nNazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe\, campaigner and former political prisoner\nLieutenant General Dame Sharon Nesmith\, Deputy Chief of the General Staff\, British Army\nSally Phillips\, actor and comedian\nEmma Barnett\, broadcaster and journalist\nLady Phyll\, LGBTQ+ activist and co-founder of UK Black Pride\nDame Maggie Aderin-Pocock\, space scientist and science communicator\nDaryl Fielding\, advertising leader behind Dove’s Real Beauty campaign and founding member of Mad Women\nGeorgia Harrison\, campaigner for women’s safety and digital accountability\nZoe Stratford\, England Rugby World Cup-winning captain and advocate for women in sport\n\nEmpowering Her is in support of UN Women UK\, with proceeds contributing to programmes supporting all women and girls in the UK and around the world. \nEmpowering Her is an evolving body of work. \nAlongside the exhibition\, a series of portrait-led workshops will take place at the gallery\, with further workshops planned in community and corporate settings\, and ambitions for future exhibitions and touring.

SUMMARY:In Five Years' Time - a new opera
DESCRIPTION:In Five Years’ Time is a ‘drama in song’ based on an experimental play by Spain’s favourite poet\, Federico García Lorca\, who described the work as a meditation on the passing of time. The surreal plot explores themes of love\, identity and decay\, yet does so in the manner of a fairy tale\, clothed in fun and topsy-turvy. Lorca himself said it was impossible to stage\, but The Music Troupe has put together a cast of 8 superb singers – playing 14 roles – to bring this operatic adaptation to life in the style of a cabaret. Displaying Edward Lambert’s trademark lyricism\, the music is stimulating and accessible while the drama and poetry are uniquely heart-rending. Five years to the day after completing the draft\, when the nationalists rose up on the outbreak of civil war\, Lorca was executed and the play turned out to posses more than a hint of prophecy. \nJoin us in the atmospheric surroundings of The Space Theatre in London’s East End for the first performances of this exciting new opera. \nFederico: James Schouten (tenor)\nBridesmaid 1 / Dying Child: Rosalind Dobson (soprano)\nBridesmaid 2 / Dying Cat: Mae Heydorn (mezzo–soprano)\nBelisa / Italian Countess: Lucy Gibbs (mezzo–soprano)\nRosita: Fiona Hymns (soprano)\nPedro / Colombina: Jean-Max Lattemann (counter–tenor)\nJuan / Arlecchino: Chris Murphy (baritone)\nFernando / Pierrot: Thomas Stevenson (bass)\nMusic: Edward Lambert\nWords: adapted by the composer after the play Así que pasen cinco años (1931)\nMusical Director / Piano: Alistair Burton\nAccordion: Jing Jia\nLighting: Simon Pike\nMovement: Jenny Weston\nStage Director: Walter Hall

SUMMARY:When Vincent Met John
DESCRIPTION:Vincent Van Gogh died in 1890\, John Lennon died in 1980\, both of gunshot wounds to the chest. But imagine what might have happened had the two greatest artists of their time met? \nThis hypothetical meeting between John Lennon and Vincent van Gogh is the premise of a new play by actor and writer Nick Wilkes. We all know that Vincent van Gogh was a nineteenth-century Dutch Post-Impressionist painter and amongst the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. We all know John Lennon was an English singer\, songwriter\, musician and peace activist who gained worldwide fame with The Beatles. \nWhat we don’t all know is that five years before their respective deaths both men went through profound change\, and this is what has inspired playwright Nick Wilkes to bring these two cultural giants together.
