On her 2021 debut full-length\, Going To Hell\, and 2022’s House Without a View\, she explored her queer identity\, sobriety\, and childhood trauma through the lens of heartfelt\, conversational indie-pop\, which led to spots opening for the likes of Alvvays\, Throwing Muses\, and The Beths. Her new album\, Lucky Now\, written and recorded with producer Matthew Simms (Wire\, It Hugs Back)\, reflects the most mature and confident version of Lande Hekt yet. “I’m not as concerned about how I’m presenting myself\,” Hekt says. “I’ve tried to think less about how things are coming across\, and just write songs that make me feel connected to myself and what I value.”\nHekt’s musical touchstones – The Wedding Present\, The Sundays\, The Replacements – remain the same\, but at the same time\, she’s delved deeper into other influences. Lucky Now is indebted to 1980s twee-pop and jangle-pop like The Pastels\, Tallulah Gosh and The Bats\, as well as to more modern iterations of the sound\, such as Autocamper and Jeanines\, in its ecstatic\, soaring melodies and gorgeous\, tactile guitars. The sound is fitting for Hekt’s new lyrical outlook\, where\, though despair and anxiety rear their heads\, she digs deep to find the gratitude. During the album’s recording\, Hekt also moved from Bristol back to her hometown of Exeter. In a lot of ways\, Lucky Now is about return – return to joy\, return to places and parts of the self once left behind. Often associated with the late 80s/early 90s indie scene\, they achieved success with singles like “Landslide” and quintessential albums ‘Eugenie’ and ‘Snog’ before a hiatus. In 2012\, the band resumed live performances with six gigs. A three-track 7″ single\, “Lovejunky”\, was released in late 2014\, followed by a new album\, ‘Pop Fiction’\, on Matinée Recordings. Soundblab ranked the album at Number 2 on their Top 10 Releases of the year. Inspired by the free-flowing rhythms of 60’s American folk\, the aim was to find a balance between Roger’s vivid arrangements and Leonard’s evocative lyrics\, one that truly captured the bittersweet depths of their songwriting. From his transformative meeting with Kamila Stösslová in 1917 to the radiant\, defiant energy of works like the Sinfonietta\, the discussion traces how personal passion and an unmistakably original musical language combined to produce some of the most compelling music of the 20th century. \nInterwoven with musical examples and personal reflections\, this is above all a celebration of Janáček’s enduring voice – alongside the launch of two new publications: Janáček’s Sinfonietta by Nigel Simeone and Jiří Zahrádka (Boydell\, 2026) and Káťa Kabanová and The Cunning Little Vixen: Janáček’s New Lease of Life by Jiří Zahrádka (Host\, 2026). \nJakub Hrůša is Music Director of the Royal Opera\, Covent Garden\, Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony and Music Director Designate of the Czech Philharmonic (from 2028). Born in Brno\, he has been an ardent champion of Czech music around the world. The production of Janáček’s Makropulos Case at Covent Garden in 2025 has been nominated for an Olivier Award\, and many of his recordings have won international recognition\, including the Gramophone Opera Award for Káťa Kabanová at the Salzburg Festival. His complete cycle of Bohuslav Martinů’s symphonies will be released later this year by Deutsche Grammophon. \nNigel Simeone is a writer and broadcaster with a lifelong interest in Janáček. He is the author of several books on the composer including The Janáček Compendium (2019) and he is co-author the standard catalogue of Janáček’s works (1997). He appears regularly on BBC Radio 3 (Record Review\, Opera on 3\, and the Proms)\, and has written programme notes for the Royal Opera House\, London Symphony Orchestra\, Salzburg Festival\, Glyndebourne Festival and others. \nJiří Zahrádka is Director of the Janáček Archive in Brno and a musicologist. SUMMARY:The Museum of Connection - Workshop with Georgia Clemson and Lina Ivanova
DESCRIPTION:Embrace the power of collaborative creation in the second in a series of transformative workshops led by artist duo Georgia Clemson and Lina Ivanova\, hosted by IMT Gallery. In The Museum of Connection\, you are invited to explore the generative possibilities of collectivity through a series of guided creative exercises and to imagine working together as a new way to survive on our damaged planet. \nIn the last decade\, our experience of closeness has radically shifted. Digital interactions\, though abundant\, have left many of us reliant on screens for connection. Georgia and Lina began The Museum of Connection in response to this change\, inspired by Donna Haraway’s term Sympoiesis\, meaning making-with\, a reminder that all creation and survival depend on collaboration. \nThe duo will transform IMT Gallery into a space of encounter\, a shared and fertile ground where real-life connection and creativity can take root. Each workshop in the series will be themed for a collective act: food\, play\, touch\, and movement. For this workshop\, Lina and Georgia invite you to use your whole body to create an image with a difference\, exploring the theme of movement. \nIn this workshop\, we will gather in the gallery to create one-of-a-kind artworks\, both collectively and individually. The event will begin with a specially themed meditation\, written by the artists\, and unfold into writing and drawing games. The primary technique in this event will focus on cyanotypes\, a form of experimental camera-less photography. This technique reduces the image to its fundamental components – light\, shadow and form. The process is unpredictable by nature\, resulting in artworks that record our intentional and incidental marks\, the traces of presence\, sharing\, and interaction. Each image created is ephemeral but can be ‘fixed’ as a lasting memory of the moment. The workshop will culminate in the collaborative creation of a large-scale cyanotype. \nAs a participant\, you will have the opportunity to contribute what you make to the Museum’s growing archive\, as a living monument to community\, built within two fleeting hours\, yet resonant with the lasting memory of connection. \nEach workshop in this series is different\, so if you have joined us before\, you are welcome to join us again. No experience is necessary. Please bring your preferred drawing materials and paper\, additional supplies will also be provided. \nMeet the artists: \nGeorgia\, Clemson\, and Lina Ivanova are London-based artists with fifteen years of combined experience in creative facilitation. They first exhibited together in A Cohesion of Light at Peckham 24 (2021)\, and created The Museum of Connection in 2024. Both artists have a background in experimental photography and make work challenging the conventions of the medium. \nGeorgia’s work has been featured in Source Photographic Review\, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Italia. Recent exhibitions include The vessel that contains me at Creative Health Camden and Retreat: the UK’s first climate refugees at Middlesex University as part of Barnet Climate Action Month. Lina is a co-founder of Revolv Collective and a recipient of the Turner Contemporary Portfolio Prize. Her work has been exhibited by RPS\, the South Bermondsey Art Trail\, and the Goethe Institut in Bulgaria.
