SUMMARY:Fishwives
DESCRIPTION:Step right up for FISHWIVES—a riotous comedy cabaret that’s smutty\, feminist\, historical\, and dare we say\, hysterical. \nIf Chaucer had a potty-mouthed sister with a vendetta against the patriarchy\, this is the show she’d have made. Written in verse with the gleeful irreverence of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes\, Fishwives catapults the forgotten heroines of history onto centre stage—louder\, looser\, and far less ladylike than you remember. \nPenned and performed by seasoned comedy poet Abi Unwin-Smith (RCSSD)\, with a decade of live mischief under her belt\, this anarchic hour fuses poetry\, storytelling and movement with the high-energy chaos of vaudeville. Expect stripping suffragettes\, scandalous monarchs and the odd persecuted pudenda—no petticoat will be left unruffled. \nAfter a decade on the UK and Australian comedy and poetry circuits\, Fishwives now bursts forth as a full-throttle show: a bawdy mash-up of brains\, bosoms\, and belly laughs. In an age when women’s rights still hang precariously in the balance\, this show wields laughter as both weapon and salve. \nSo gird your loins\, ladies and gents. These lusty bawds have stories to tell—and it’s about bloody time we listened.

SUMMARY:Gothic Opera presents: Die Rheinnixen
DESCRIPTION:Unconventional opera company Gothic Opera returns to Battersea Arts Centre this Halloween\, this time with the UK staged premiere of Die Rheinnixen (The Nixies of the Rhine)\, an unjustly neglected\, Romantic work by Jacques Offenbach. \nDie Rheinnixen\, which is Offenbach’s first take on grand opera\, encompasses the growing nationalism of its time\, as well as the genre’s fascination with the supernatural. Gothic Opera is delighted to be staging this horror story for the first time in the UK. \nIn the capable hands of the award-winning international stage director Max Hoehn\, the evocative crumbling architecture of Battersea Arts Centre’s Grand Hall will be transformed into the time of the Weimar Republic\, a period of nationalism and unease. \nIn a bold production that will speak to our current times\, Gothic Opera will be joined by exciting conductor Hannah von Wiehler\, who has a very busy career across Europe. Leon Haxby\, the young composer whose previous work for the company was praised in Opera magazine for its “haunting magic” and “compassionate insight\,” has created a new chamber orchestration of the opera for seven instruments. A cast of talented singers will bring the characters and story to life. \nDie Rheinnixen performance details:\n30th October\, 7.30pm\n31st October\, 7.30pm\n1st November\, 7.30pm\n2nd November\, 5.00pm \nSung in German with English surtitles.

SUMMARY:Continuity - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Continuity\, by David Sear \nDirected by Rosina Piovani \nWhat happens when your life is abruptly changed by a tragic accident? \nOne that ruins that life completely? \nAnd if a chance came along to use a revolutionary new cure\, would you take it? \nDo you want to live forever? (Terms & conditions apply). \nIt is 2034\, and a group of billionaires control even more of the world than they do today. They believe they have discovered an invention which could change what it means to be human. They believe they have unlocked the secret of human continuity. And they need patient 7… \nCONTINUITY: A satirical and darkly comic tale about humanity’s yearning for immortality – and what happens when technology and vast wealth manipulate the very essence of what makes us human. In a world where the pace of change is unprecedented and our ability to adapt to that change is struggling to evolve\, Continuity asks the existential question: ‘What is the value of my continued existence? And\, more importantly\, can I get a better phone?’.

SUMMARY:The Great Gatsby - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This new\, subversive adaptation of The Great Gatsby retells the Jazz-Age classic from a queer\, feminist perspective. Nick\, a young and ambitious stockbroker\, is befriended by the illusive millionaire\, Jay Gatsby. At first enamoured with the lavish lifestyle of the nouveau-riche\, Nick soon begins to see through the cracks in Gatsby’s façade\, where deception and tragedy lie in wait. \nSet against the glamorous backdrop of New York in the roaring twenties\, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby tells a heart-breaking tale of social stratification\, excess and unfulfilled love that treads the line of dark obsession. \n‘I hope she’ll be a fool – that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world\, a beautiful little fool.’ \nLondon Theatre Cheap Tickets \n

SUMMARY:Sail to Hope – Solo Exhibition by Esra Kizir Gokcen
DESCRIPTION:With Sail to Hope\, Esra Kizir Gokcen presents her response to the far-reaching effects of globalisation. Born from human empathy rather than political drive\, her work questions the hierarchies that place humans above other life forms. \nIn paintings inspired by Eastern miniature art\, natural forces intermingle with crowds of abstract shapes and figures to represent the movements of people and cultures between past and present. Collaged paper boats folded from world maps symbolise the shared humanity of precarious passages too often reduced to numbers in news headlines. \nThe ubiquitous origami vessels also feature in a large-scale multi-media installation at the heart of the exhibition. These were co-created in workshops with diverse community groups. Participants christened each boat with a personal message of hope\, inspiring the exhibition title. A soundscape by Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Tim Garland complements this collaborative work. \nThe artists have worked together since 2023\, when Garland commissioned Gokcen to create paintings for his orchestral work. Visuals for the current Moment of Departure tour constitute part of this exhibition. Tim Garland will play a selection from his current CD in several intimate concerts on both Saturdays. The afternoon performances will be followed by a Q&A with both artists who believe art can communicate positive messages and elevate the resilience of the human spirit. A selection of prints and posters are available in support of War Child. \nThe exhibition open times are as follows: \nMonday-Friday 12noon – 7pm\nSaturday 11am – 2pm\nSunday 12non – 4pm \nClick on the booking links for the music and art afternoons on 1 March and 8 March

SUMMARY:At the Edge of All Things
DESCRIPTION:At the Edge of All Things brings together three artists who conjure post-human landscapes in response to the uncertainties and frailties of contemporary life. The exhibition marks the start of a three-month series of events at a former warehouse in Borough as the building is prepared for its next chapter – the space itself a symbol of civic transition. \nAnna Woodward\, Annie Trevorah and Vilte Fuller provoke alternative futures in a world teetering on the brink of collapse. Examining the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world from cultural and historical\, theoretical and personal perspectives the artists’ works capture a liminal moment between utopia and dystopia. \nIn her intricate paintings Anna Woodward’s depicts fantastical scenarios where the organic and human-made collide\, Annie Trevorah’s hybrid sculptures blur the lines between plant life and technology\, while Vite Fuller’s otherworldly scenes draw on ancient folktales and urban myths. Together they join nature’s alarm call to step back from the edge. \nThis inaugural show launches a creative hub hosted by IAG (Independent Art Galleries and Exhibitions) led by curator Josephine May Bailey. Over the course of three months\, the temporarily vacant space will act as a platform for dialogue\, experimentation and exchange by incorporating exhibitions\, artist residencies and collaborative programming.

SUMMARY:John Vanbrugh: The Drama of Architecture
DESCRIPTION:To coincide with the publication of his book\, John Vanbrugh: The Drama of Architecture\, Charles Saumarez Smith will give a lunchtime talk on Vanbrugh’s extraordinary life: his upbringing; why he spent so much time in a French gaol; the writing of The Relapse and The Provoked Wife; and how he came to design Castle Howard with no previous experience of architecture. Saumarez Smith will give particular attention to Vanbrugh’s work as a theatrical impresario and the designer of the Queen’s Theatre\, Haymarket\, so disastrous as a venue for plays\, but where all of Handel’s early operas were performed. He will then describe Vanbrugh’s quarrel with the Duchess of Marlborough and his later work as an architect\, at King’s Weston\, Claremont\, Grimsthorpe\, Seaton Delaval and Stowe. In recent years\, Vanbrugh’s reputation as an architect has been eclipsed by his subordinate\, Nicholas Hawksmoor. This talk and the accompanying book will explain Vanbrugh’s originality and influence on later architects from Robert Adam to Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. \nCharles Saumarez Smith is a writer\, curator and art historian. He has served as Director of the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery\, London\, as Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts\, London\, as Professor of Architectural History at the Royal Academy of Arts\, and Chairman of The Royal Drawing School and The Watercolour World. He is currently a Trustee of the Garden Museum\, and Emeritus Trustee of ArtUK and Charleston. \nCopies of the book will be available for purchase in the Foyer at a special price. \nFurther details of the book available here

SUMMARY:Side Effects May Include
DESCRIPTION:A world where one miracle pill makes life ‘sunny’ and pain-free – until side effects begin to emerge. Created and performed by Mountview graduates Ivi Moravcova and Jess Vince-Moin\, Side Effects May Include is a dystopian dark comedy blending sharp dialogue with surrealism. A new work inspired by the 2024 UK Women and Equalities Committee report into women’s reproductive health conditions\, and personal experiences seeking medical diagnoses. Provocative\, playful\, and pertinent: a prescription for cases of chronic medical dismissal. Do not operate heavy misogyny while watching. \nCreatives and cast: Jess Vince-Moin & Ivi Moravcova \n\n19 November 2025\, 7 pm\n20 November 2025\, 7 pm\nBOOK NOW  \n\nPart of Voila Theatre Festival (3 – 23 November 2025)

SUMMARY:Girl America + Q&A with director Viktor Tauš
DESCRIPTION:Girl America is a visually striking\, deeply moving portrait of a young girl’s fight for freedom and belonging. Growing up in totalitarian Czechoslovakia\, orphaned Emma endures foster care\, juvenile detention\, and the turmoil of the Velvet Revolution. To survive the fear\, loneliness\, and dislocation\, she invents another self to talk to—and clings to a dream of America\, where her father awaits. Blending raw realism with surreal imagery\, director Viktor Tauš crafts a poetic\, emotionally charged journey of resilience and hope. Girl America is not just a story of survival\, but a celebration of the unyielding spirit that refuses to be broken. An exceptional film in the Czech auteur cinema. \nViktor Tauš\, Czech Republic\, 2024\, 108‘\nCast: Pavla Beretová\, Julie Šoucová\, Klára Kitto\, Lucie Žáčková\, Klára Melíšková\, Tomas Sean Pšenička \nVivid and magical and fuelled by urgent pain\, Girl America is a mesmerising cinematic confection which dazzled audiences at Fantaspoa 2025 and deserves to be seen much more widely. Eye for Film \nPremiered at the 2024 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival\nBest Film\, Best Costume Design\, Best Set Design / Czech Film Critics’ Awards 2024\n\nBOOK NOW

SUMMARY:Showstopper! The Improvised Musical
DESCRIPTION:The incredible ‘Showstopper! The Improvised Musical has extended its residency in the West End at the Cambridge Theatre for the third year\, with new dates added throughout 2025! \nSpontaneous musical comedy at its finest\, this is the first-ever long-form improv show to have an entire West End run and to be nominated and win an Olivier Award! This is a must-see show\, completely improvised and entirely different every night! \nFor those who haven’t yet experienced the live phenomenon\, ‘ Showstopper! The Improvised Musical\, the show is a fully realised musical created on the spot from audience suggestions. The cast transforms suggestions for settings\, genres\, musical styles and even the show’s name into ingenious storylines with hilarious characters. From Lin Manuel Miranda to Stephen Sondheim\, via a primary school\, Ancient Egypt\, or a mattress shop – if the audience can suggest it\, The Showstoppers will perform it. It’s hugely funny to watch. \nThe majority of the cast also have much acclaim\, with founder member Ruth Bratt being part of the famous Comedy Store Players\, the longest-running impro show in the country; Pippa Evan\,s being a regular on BBC Radio 4\, has toured with I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue and wrote ‘Now That’s What I Call A Musical!’ (that’s currently on UK tour). The pilot of Hopping\, a new comedy from Lucy Trodd and Susan Harrison\, aired on BBC Radio 4\, and Matt Cavendish appeared on this year’s Royal Variety Performance with Mischief Theatre’s ‘A Comedy About Spies’.  Co-founder Adam Meggido directed the West End and Broadway hit show Peter Pan Goes Wrong. The incredibly talented West End star Miracle Chance (Roald Dahl’s The Witches at the National Theatre\, Veronica Sawyer in Heathers at The Other Palace) has just joined the cast. \nThe Showstoppers also regularly run improvisation workshops and courses for beginners and professionals and have a successful podcast – The Showstopper! Podcast\, with recent guests including Zizi Strallen\, Rufus Hound and Reuben Kaye. \nIn the Autumn of 2015\, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical became the first long-form improv show to have an entire run in the West End at the Apollo Theatre and continues to play monthly at the Cambridge in London’s West End. In 2024\, they were in the Top 10 best-reviewed shows of the entire Edinburgh Fringe – for the second year running – no mean feat in their 15th year selling out the Pleasance Grand once more!
