SUMMARY:Lewys Holt: Phrases
DESCRIPTION:Phrases is a one-man dance\, multimedia and spoken word performance. It is a minimal\, reflective piece that continually shape-shifts between PowerPoint presentation\, dance performance\, stand-up set\, private conversation\, and storytelling recital. \n\n\n\nPhrases exists in a kind of ethereal space. Projections of stream-of-consciousness writing are paired with often improvised movement and discussions of communication to create a subtly humorous yet unnerving piece. Generally\, the piece expresses some solidarity with the anxious\, the confused and those who overthink. It doesn’t even really tell anyone that it’s going to be okay – it just sort of says\, “I know…” and strokes your head\, at the same time as having its own little freakout. \n\n\n\n“Phrases is fun\, eccentric and clever.”(Voice Magazine ★★★★) \n\n\n\nUnpretentious\, honest and thought-provoking\, Holt offers a wonderful study in overthinking.”(Broadway Baby ★★★★)

DESCRIPTION:This summer\, fasten your seatbelts as the RAF Museum presents Horrible Histories Up in the Air Adventure. Get ready to experience the (sometimes gruesome) history of flight in the Horrible Hangar. Meet fearless and foolish flyers and solve the clues in this fully interactive experience for all the family. \n\n\n\nBased on the Horrible Histories book\, ‘Up in the Air’\, written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown\, the RAF Museum will bring characters from the book to life with some of the truly brainless blunderers pursuing the desire to fly! \n\n\n\nLegendary aviation pioneers from throughout history will be on hand to steer you around six amazing zones for one fantastic adventure\, including the Engineer’s Workshop; Barnstorming Braves; Creation Station; Meet the Inventor; Selfie Zone and the Up in the Air Challenge.Bespoke Horrible Histories activity packs and a free Twinkletoes Trail around the Museum are also on offer for visitors throughout the summer break. Not only did Twinkletoes the cat feature in the book\, she’s the Transatlantic traveller and lucky charm of Arthur Whitten Brown who flew on the first ever non-stop transatlantic flight in 1919. Twinkletoes is the purrfect character to guide you round the Museum and can also be spotted on display at the Museums Midlands site over the summer. \n\n\n\nThis year celebrates the 30th anniversary of Horrible Histories – the world’s bestselling historical book series for children. \n\n\n\nThe Horrible Histories Up in the Air Adventure runs from Saturday 22 July until 3 September\, with three 2-hours sessions daily. \n\n\n\nAdvanced booking is strongly advised for this immersive experience. Tickets are £7.50 per person\, or £25 for 5 people on our group saver ticket. Book now for a great day out this summer\, just go to https://www.rafmuseum.org/london/

SUMMARY:New Stuff
DESCRIPTION:New Stuff is a monthly programme of rehearsed readings of new writing hosted live in The Cockpit’s Studio 1. Taking place every first Sunday of the month\, the evening is all about showcasing new pieces of scripted work by writers and theatre makers. The evening is an exciting\, low-cost opportunity for audiences to see new work and engage in constructive dialogues with other writers\, creatives\, and theatregoers. \n\n\n\nCOMING UP: Sunday\, 6 August 2023 \n\n\n\nThe Trophy Cabinet by Declan Coyle \n\n\n\nWhat does it take to be a hero? When an unassuming trophy maker\, Roger\, is visited by an old colleague\, his past as a spy is brought back into the light. Roger must face the consequences of his past life in a world that has moved forward. Actions from the past are reframed by the present as Roger’s wife and child are dragged into chaos. How can Roger prove he is still the hero he always thought he was – and is that even possible anymore? \n\n\n\nand \n\n\n\nHamstrung by George Rennie \n\n\n\n‘Yorick is no more! And yet\, I tread….’ \n\n\n\nThe most famous court jester that never was is roused from the dead\, as he is every time somebody stages The Tragedy of Hamlet. At first confused\, his dawning realisation of where he is leads him to visit the world of the living\, where he encounters a now-grown Prince in a great deal of misery. Unable to contend with a world without laughter\, he sets out to bring the spark of theatrical joy back to the Danish court\, reconnecting with his lost love of performance whilst accidentally leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. \n\n\n\nHamstrung is a one-person\, interactive Shakespearean ghost story about the space between live comedy and the afterlife. \n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 6th August 2023Tickets: £3Website: https://www.thecockpit.org.uk/show/new_stuff

We’re going to follow some diverting diversions which show how much secret history can be found down some seemingly nondescript side streets any day of the week. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a ninety-minute walk of paths\, turnings\, and tales less told. You’ll visit a graffiti gallery most visitors miss\, see a sad\, inspirational statue\, and meet two extraordinary characters\, one nasty and one nice! \n\n\n\nFOR TWO WEEKENDS ONLY – SUNDAY THE 6th AND 13th OF AUGUST AT NOON.  \n\n\n\nTours start at Brick Lane Bookshop and are limited to small groups\, so please book early to avoid disappointment. \n\n\n\nPlease note although not a long walk\, the route includes two sets of stairs.

SUMMARY:Harp & Tap
DESCRIPTION:The Celtic harp and tap dance join forces in this sparkling performance\, drawing inspiration from the world of concerts\, theatre and musical experimentation. \n\n\n\n“Harp & Tap” consists of a series of musical tableaus that express a colourful combination of sounds and rhythms: from a grotesque mask of the Italian “commedia dell’arte” to the pulsating beat of ragtime from the 1930s. Swing and groove dialogue with the multiple sounds of the harp outline the characters of the two protagonists on stage. \n\n\n\nGet ready for a unique crescendo of artistic fusion where strings and steps intertwine. \n\n\n\nIn 2018 Adriano and Ilaria met at a tap dance class\, he as a student and she as a teacher. Fascinated by innovation in their professional fields\, the two artists try to blend the sounds of the Celtic harp with the rhythmic phrasing of tap dance\, and the result is beyond the lines. \n\n\n\nAfter several performances in Italian theatres\, Harp & Tap comes to the Camden Fringe 2023.

SUMMARY:Nicholas Ferguson / Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Perspective at The Coningsby Gallery is British-Swiss artist Nicholas Ferguson’s first solo show and will showcase a series of striking self-portraits and paintings paired with poetry\, likened in their palette to the works of Peter Doig and Edvard Munch and compared thematically to Surrealism. \n\n\n\nFerguson believes in the transformative power of art\, and he is interested in how the ego while serving to keep us safe\, can prevent us from reaching our full\, unbounded potential. In his paintings\, the goat (ego) and the featherless rooster (creative genius) are set within fantastical narratives that occur to him intuitively. \n\n\n\nHe has exhibited in numerous group shows in London\, Italy and Switzerland\, winning the ‘Most Uplifting’ award at the Lockdown Collective exhibition at the Department Store Gallery\, Brixton\, in 2021. His work can be viewed @TheColourofSplash \n\n\n\n“Self-reflective” zoom-portrait commissions are another part of Nicholas Ferguson’s practice\, and those interested in commissioning a portrait are invited to contact The Coningsby Gallery. \n\n\n\nNicholas Ferguson / Perspective31 July – 12 August 2023The Coningsby Gallery\, 30 Tottenham Street\, London\, W1T 4RJOpen Mon–Fri\, 10.30 am–7 pm\, Sat 11–6 pm \n\n\n\ninfo@coningsbygallery.com07884 314361coningsbygallery.com

SUMMARY:"The Good Women" at Kensington & Chelsea Festival
DESCRIPTION:“The Good Women” is a brand-new funny\, bold and romantic piece of theatre inspired by a true queer love story. \n\n\n\nIt’s the 1960s\, the world is changing. Protesters take the streets against the Vietnam war\, hippies celebrate free love and a young band called “The Beatles” is rising to fame. But not in Switzerland\, where women did not get the vote until the 1970s and were legally confined to the kitchen and household. \n\n\n\nBette\, the star of a popular TV cooking show\, and Trudy\, a housewife\, are about to change that. \n\n\n\nYou’ll laugh\, you’ll cry\, you’ll meet two extraordinary women \n\n\n\n“The poignant two-hander depicts burgeoning love against a backdrop of political struggle. Simply staged\, the romcom plot balances witty humour\, social injustice & emancipation.” – Fringe Biscuit \n\n\n\n“This thoughtful glimpse into the difficulties faced by women in the 1960s is gently uplifting\, An encouragement to continue the fight for change.” – The British Theatre Guide
