SUMMARY:The Great American Songbook Ft. Declan Poole
DESCRIPTION:Many great musicals and stage shows written for Broadway during the heyday had music and songs that became so familiar they found themselves in the Great American Songbook. Composers such as Berlin\, Gershwin\, Porter\, Rodgers\, and more produced almost unimaginable amounts of popular music for productions such as Anything Goes\, Annie Get Your Gun\, An American In Paris and South Pacific. \n\n\n\nThis event will be full of music from shows such as these\, so if you love your big Broadway-busting tunes – this is for you. The music will be played by Declan Poole\, who\, despite being in his 20s\, has mastered the instrument and will bring this music to life – this event will not disappoint! So come hear Troxy Wurlitzer LIVE in concert\, where the building comes to life with wonderful music!

SUMMARY:LGBT comedy – SALLYANN FELLOWS – Alien
DESCRIPTION:Comedy Bloomers is delighted to be launching The London LGBTQ+ Stand-up\n\n\n\nComedy festival from 17th May – 11th June with 10 fantastic nights of comedy.\n\n\n\nSunday 4th June- WIP 2 Northdown 8.00pm SALLYANN FELLOWS\n\n\n\nSallyann’s brand of humour is wonderfully distinctive and unpredictable; expect real-life experiences that aren’t even remotely like real life. Her power to engage an audience is so strong\, that she once attracted a large crowd in a public toilet car park because she thought she’d discovered some Roman pottery\, after digging with a trowel and convincing the crowd that they were watching a real-life version of Time Team\, she had to abandon the dig site and leg it when she realised that all she’d actually dug up was the toilet pipe. Sallyann is Neurodiverse and LGBTQ+ and welcomes everyone to her show.

SUMMARY:Editrix + Beige Palace + ES
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n\n\n\nEDITRIXBEIGE PALACEES \n\n\n\nEDITRIX is Steve Cameron\, Josh Daniel\, and Wendy Eisenberg. Steve plays bass; Josh plays the drums; Wendy plays the guitar and sings. Editrix came to life around 2018. Eisenberg had honed their skills as a jazz guitarist but was drawn to noise after growing frustrated by a limited area of study. Inspired by the Northeast’s thriving DIY scene\, they moved to Boston from the Washington\, D.C. suburbs. Editrix is as if you took borderline classical music in its crystalline perfection and obsessive attention to detail and then played it through Kurt Cobain’s Rat Pedal with not a shred of piety or decorum. This is doom-laden nihilism lovingly decorated in heart stickers from the first slide of guitar notes of the opening title track. It is caring\, pretending not to care\, resisting the emotive signals so abused in the mainstream\, which is what tells you that it really does care. It is the synthesis of the dialectic and the clarion call of the proletarian revolution. \n\n\n\n‘Editrix II’ is the group’s new album\, a record that’s impossible not to like. Do not expect calcified recreations of pre-existing bands\, even the ones Editrix loves. But if pop is anything to do with melody\, prepare yourself to sing along by the second line of each track. If it’s defined by rhythm\, warn your head not to get caught napping because it will shortly be banging. And if\, for you pop equals a full-on full-frequency sonic sickness\, this one grabs your ears by the ear lapels and never lets go. This is haiku rock\, its minimal lyrics compressing novels into a few syllables. It sounds like it came to their heads like a bolt of lightning. \n\n\n\nhttps://editrix.bandcamp.com/album/editrix-ii-editrix-goes-to-hell \n\n\n\nBEIGE PALACE is a minimalist trio from Leeds\, an irreverent kaleidoscope of noise rock\, post-hardcore\, musique concrete\, spoken word\, chamber music\, and general auditory mayhem. Check out their terrific album ‘Leg’ and their forthcoming ‘Waterloo Sublet’ 7” split with Cassels on their Bandcamp page.https://beigepalace.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nES returned with their incredible new EP ‘Fantasy’ (Upset The Rhythm) this month. A four-track contact-high anxiety amid fact and facsimile\, the new release attempts to define a sound that still resonates in an increasingly confused public theatre\, where cerebral dreams manifest in corrupt fascination. Echoing the legendary Pylon or the later disco-inspired releases from PIL tracks like ‘Emergency’ and ‘Unreal’ blend the band’s established disjunctive style of gothic restlessness with brighter\, poppy\, and danceable tunes. Es deconstruct our modern wreckage of personhood and self-deceit\, granting a sense of solidarity inside alienation. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://esband.bandcamp.com/\n\n\n\n\nSunday 4 JuneThe Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB7.30pm | £9 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/de59bbb09db5

SUMMARY:New Stuff - Rehearsed readings of new writing at Cockpit Theare
DESCRIPTION:New Stuff is a monthly programme of rehearsed readings of new writing hosted live in The Cockpit’s Studio 1. Taking place every first Sunday of the month\, the evening is all about showcasing new pieces of scripted work by writers and theatre makers. The evening is an exciting\, low-cost opportunity for audiences to see new work and engage in constructive dialogues with other writers\, creatives\, and theatregoers. \n\n\n\nCOMING UP: Sunday\, 4 June 2023 \n\n\n\nTara by Naomi Elster \n\n\n\nTara wants to be normal. There are just two problems: her body and the rest of the world.Fast-paced and funny\, this one-act play explores the bizarre realities of dating in modern London\, how women have to fight harder for their health\, and how sometimes\, when we look for happiness\, we look in the wrong places. \n\n\n\nand \n\n\n\nLittle Man by Deborah Perkin \n\n\n\nJust landed in a refuge with his mum\, 9-year-old Billy tries to make sense of the world with the help of a Tree Spirit\, a Dragon\, a Fire Fighter\, and a dead Dad. Buckle up for a surreal tale of domestic abuse through the eyes of a child. This plea for adults to understand the damage their toxic relationships do to children is based on the writer’s experience in women’s aid work. \n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 4th June 2023Tickets: £3Website: https://www.thecockpit.org.uk/show/new_stuff

SUMMARY:Mariana Feijó: Blue Pencil
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to laugh\, learn\, and be inspired by Mariana Feijó’s one-of-a-kind show that takes you on a journey through her life\, from growing up in a conservative\, Catholic country to exploring her sexuality and identity in London’s vibrant queer and kink scenes. Through stand-up comedy\, Mariana tackles issues of censorship\, cultural clashes\, and fascism\, all while celebrating the power of self-discovery and liberation in a show that promises to be both entertaining and emotionally engaging. Don’t miss your chance to witness this hilarious and thought-provoking show from an immigrant queer comedian who is unapologetically sex-positive and anti-fascist.

SUMMARY:The Double Down - Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Two new and exciting devised plays performed by Final Year BA (Hons) Acting & Theatre-Making and BA (Hons) Actor Musicianship students. \n\n\n\nDoppelänger \n\n\n\nLola’s life seems to be glitching. She both did and didn’t cheat on her girlfriend. She both did and didn’t get fired. And then there’s the Viking burial. And the cave baby. And the feeding of the five thousand (numbers strictly limited). \n\n\n\nConfessions\, Battles and Apples \n\n\n\nThis devised work by the actor-musicianship students is a bold and daring theatre play that humorously narrates the diversity of different people and what makes them human. Farce\, physical theatre\, satire\, music and songs have created this piece to satisfy the wish of these actors to embrace humanness at its full.

DESCRIPTION:Absurd character comedy show from award-winning comedian Kathy Maniura. \n\n\n\nKathy Maniura is ready to be objectified – by which she means pretending to be a bunch of objects. LIVE ON STAGE!! In her debut solo show\, this award-winning character comedian brings to life a few of her favourite things – and a lot of her least favourite. Is a paper straw as annoying as you’d think? What would a wine bottle own up to? What does a tiny little airpod have to say for herself? And why on earth is Kathy pretending to be objects?? Expect juicy confessions\, attempted accents and an insight into Kathy’s medical history in an hour of silliness that might make you look at the world a little differently. \n\n\n\n“flawlessly performed and wittily and inventively scripted” Chortle“standout performer… Enigmatic” The Scotsman“utterly original\, astonishing and boundlessly weird” Lost in Theatreland

SUMMARY:Berliner Barock Solisten and Alexandros Kapelis at the Barbican
DESCRIPTION:The Berliner Barock Solisten and pianist Alexandros Kapelis come together for Bach’s six concertos for solo keyboard and orchestra: a tour-de-force not seen on the concert stage in recent memory. \n\n\n\n\nComprised of virtuosic soloists from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Berliner Barock Solisten has created a unique approach to performing music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Tonight they’re joined by pianist Alexandros Kapelis for his Barbican debut\, giving us a rare opportunity to hear these Bach masterpieces in one go. \nA pianist who ‘plays the classics with astonishing taste’ (Martha Argerich\, Classica Magazine)\, Kapelis is the first in 17 years to record this set. Alongside the Berliner Barock Solisten\, in all their ‘precise\, polished perfection’ (Gramophone)\, we’ll hear Bach’s landmark concertos in full colour.

SUMMARY:Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida
DESCRIPTION:Another unlikely G&S scenario where the son and daughter of 2 rival monarchs are betrothed at birth\, but now the time for their wedding is at hand\, the Princess has renounced mankind and set up a university for women from which all men are banned! \n\n\n\nHowever\, much posing and threats of all-out war between the adjoining nations are settled by a very short skirmish between the sons of the monarchs (conveniently\, they have 3 each). The wedding then takes place\, and all look forward to a happy future. It takes a larger-than-usual cast and 3 acts to come to this satisfactory conclusion! \n\n\n\nPerformed by the Ferrier Operatic Society\, this hilarious operetta is full of great music and fun action.

SUMMARY:Discover Chelsea in Bloom with BuddyHub’s Nature Club Photo of BuddyHub
DESCRIPTION:The Chelsea Flower Show is one of the highlights of the British social calendar and one of the world’s greatest flower shows. This is a phenomenal time to visit Chelsea and the adjacent Belgravia area as both areas are decorated in flowers for the Chelsea in Bloom festival. The theme this year is “Flowers on Film”. BuddyHub’s Nature Club is organising a walk in Chelsea\, and we can’t wait to see all the interpretations of the theme and marvellous displays. \nAs with all BuddyHub events\, this will be a great opportunity to begin friendships over a shared interest in nature. \nDate: 27th May at 3.30 pmMeet next to Knightsbridge tube station at the exit next to the Rolex shop adjacent to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. \nWe will walk from there up Sloane Street\, where many of the boutiques will have thematic floral decorations\, towards Sloane Square and King’s Road\, where most of the Chelsea in Bloom festival is taking place\,Please be on time as this is a very busy time in the area\, and it will be difficult for you to find the rest of the group once we depart from the meeting point. \nLet us know if you would like to join by confirming your spot.We hope to see you there! \nPlease note for the event to take place\, we need a minimum confirmed attendance of 10 people. You will be notified 48 hours before the event whether it is taking place. \nIf you have felt: \n\nThe post covid fatigue hitting hard!\nYou’d like to make new friends but don’t know where to start.\nAnd you’re finding social events superficial and craving deeper\, more meaningful connections…\n\nThen this is the event for you!BuddyHub’s friendship clubs allow meeting like-minded people and having fun over shared experiences! Please note that if you have already attended one of BuddyHubs events\, you must become a member to attend another! You can do this here. \n\n\n\n\n
