SUMMARY:Sin Eater
DESCRIPTION:We find ourselves in a pub during closing hours. Suddenly\, a group of strangers rush in\, seeking safety. There has been an explosion at a demonstration. Amid the chaos\, these few were lucky to get away—or were they? We learn more and more that nothing is truly as it seems\, and solving the mysteries of the explosion becomes the least of their concerns. \nAs they begin to piece together what has happened\, they also try to figure out where each of them stands on the issue. A natural element has been discovered in a remote island nation that holds incredible medicinal properties said to cure cancer. The nation does not possess the industrialised resources to mine for this element. Thus\, the debate of whether or not to mine on this territory with foreign industry divides the city\, nation\, and Western world. \nIs this a cause worth killing for? Questions turn into debates\, which lead to clashes and\, finally\, a confession. \nThis show is a thrilling interrogation of the moral implications of our actions based on what we choose to believe. \nSin Eater is a bold new production directed and conceived by Karina Aviva Benjamin. It was devised along with the company of theatremakers from E4:14 Productions\, who pride ourselves on being an inclusive and integrated company of artists representing the intersectionalities of the migrant\, multi-ethnic\, LGBTQ+\, differently abled\, and Female/non-binary-led communities. We use our life experiences to uplift voices from our communities and engage in provocative exploration of how we reconcile those experiences with the world around us. \nConceived and Directed by Karina Aviva Benjamin\, Dramaturgy by Jia Zheng Li\, starring Victoria Amuzie\, Carmina Bernhardt\, Zehra Bilgin\, Catherine Joyce\, Yaala Muller\, Inbal Port\, Marshall Stay \n“I’m a sin eater. I absorb the misdeeds of others\, darkening my soul to keep theirs pure. That is what I am capable of.”

SUMMARY:Hex Sells!
DESCRIPTION:“We are the grand-daughters of the witches you didn’t burn!”. Big mistake. Huge! \nWhat is it about the ‘Witch’ that fascinates us so? Did the witch hunts ever really die? \nIn the 15th century\, witches were accused of hexing cows\, eating babies and even stealing the penises of innocent men! \nIn 2024\, witch hunts may look a bit different\, but we may recognise them if we’re really willing to notice how they’ve changed their form. \nThrough cabaret\, grotesque burlesque\, spoken word\, and lipsync\, this modern witch shares with the audience who she really is\, if you’re willing to learn from her. What will the witch say next? Who are we told she is\, and who is she really? \nHex Sells! is a one woman/witch unapologetic feminist extravaganza of a show! Created and performed by Allie Young and directed by Abby Ferree. \n“Touching\,humorous and heartbreaking.” \n“Fun\, weird and had some important messages.” \n“I would follow her into the deepest darkest forest” \n“Such a fun show!” \n“The poetry rocked and the lip-syncs were tight.”

SUMMARY:Ripper
DESCRIPTION:In London in 1888\, a bold young woman reporter desperate to make a name for herself starts tracking gruesome murders. When she finds herself face to face with the killer\, they begin a deadly game of cat and mouse. Wickedly playful and deliciously terrifying\, Ripper asks how far you would go for the story of the century. Ripper is a re-telling of the horrifying true crime and the media sensation that made Jack The Ripper a household name. This play is built on an unusual but possible interpretation of the real historical facts\, and as such\, the play is ostensibly the basis for a new theory. \nA new play by New York-based playwright Jacob Marx Rice\, Ripper debuted at the Courtyard\, London in 2023 with Prudencia Productions – director Victoria Hadel’s female-led company specialising in new writing. The show will preview in 2024 again at the Courtyard and play the Cockpit as part of Camden Fringe before moving to Edinburgh. Hadel returns as director with Griffin Jenkins\, who is again producing. \nDirector: Victoria Hadel\nWriter: Jacob Marx Rice\nProducer: Griffin Jenkins\nSponsored by: MovieShaker Ltd\nFight Director: Jack Masefield\nProduction Manager: Florentina Sucila\nPre-production services: MovieShaker Services\nGraphic Designer: Megan Henson

SUMMARY:Close Enough
DESCRIPTION:‘Believe me\, no English teacher can ever prepare you for that: a British white man talking in his native accent!’ \nClose Enough is an autobiographical solo performance about belonging that challenges stereotypes around immigrant women from Eastern Europe. \nThe piece is based on real-life experiences of actress Cristina Varga\, who moved to the UK 3 months before Brexit. With a comedic approach\, Cristina shines light on the diversity and different dynamics between the two cultures that she is now part of: Romania and UK. \nWith the use of original live music\, Close Enough tackles subjects and stereotypes from both cultures such as the world-famous British politeness and the infamous stigma of being a morally-questionable Eastern European immigrant.

SUMMARY:Maar\, Dora
DESCRIPTION:Following on from a sold out debut run at the Old Red Lion Theatre earlier this year\, Dora Maar is back for more. \nDora Maar (1907-1997) was a prolific photographer\, hailing as one of the first artists in the surrealist movement. However in today’s conversations\, her name only appears after a man’s: the infamous Pablo Picasso. He needs no introduction (and we are not inclined to give one). History holds Dora’s romantic involvement with him as the only memorable thing about her\, but in this play\, Dora is here to tell you differently. Delving into the deepest depths of her career\, and his cruelty\, battling to escape the association with Picasso that looms over her\, and face the question of whether erasing him from her legacy would inevitably mean erasing herself further. \n“DELICIOUSLY SNARKY… ONSTAGE MAGIC” – Fringebiscuit\n“TENSE\, EXHILARATING AND INSTRUCTIVE” – The Quinntessential Review \nWritten and created by Nadia Jackson\nDirected by Spiky Saul\nProduced by Amar Singh \nFollow us on instagram – @maar.dora.theplay \nhttps://spiksaul.wixsite.com/maardora-2 \nSundays 4 and 18 August – 3:00pm \n\n\n\n\nRunning time:\n\n60 minutes\n\n\n\n\n\n14+ age guidance \nContent warnings: Includes themes of domestic violence

SUMMARY:Cash Cows- Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The opening party starts 8 August at 17.00 \nPhotographer Håkan Dennersten’s second UK exhibition\, Cash Cows\, combines three works made over the last decade in Österlen\, Sweden. This area of southeast Sweden is known for its artists and for drawing creative inspiration from nature and landscape. \nTaking On The World is a series of cow portraits that relate and resist a relationship with the people around them. A series of landscapes and close-ups\, The Black Hit Of Space juxtaposes the natural landscape with human interventions\, discarded items\, and buildings that leave a slow\, decaying effect on the environment. New Wave connects Dennersten’s earlier focus of photographing bands in Sweden in the 1980s and 1990s\, including vinyl covers of forgotten Swedish music\, and an invitation for everyone to come along to the gallery for a daily listening party at high noon.

SUMMARY:Love and Information by Caryl Churchill
DESCRIPTION:Romance is virtual. Memories are trapped in the walls. Violence is only a stone’s throw away. In the age of artificiality\, connection feels as near as it is far. \nHow do we settle for the little we know and commit to the love we have? \nHow do we find meaning in our information obsessed society? \nAnd who put that hedgehog in the microwave? \nThis is an intimate and exciting new revival of Caryl Churchill’s kaleidoscopic modern classic\, featuring over 30 scenes with more than 60 different characters.\nIt was first staged at The Oxford School of Drama with a company of third year acting students who have reassembled to bring this poignant show to The Cockpit Theatre at The Camden Fringe 2024. \nDirected by Rebecca-Jo Roberts and Daniel Metcalfe and produced by Out of Pocket\, a brand new theatre company. \n“Creatively concieved\, excellently directed and beautifully acted”  Joanna Weir Ouston – Director\, actor\, writer and world-leading Linklater voice practitioner. \n“A company overflowing with intimacy and creative heart.” Kirsty McFarland – Movement practitioner\, actor and director.

SUMMARY:Heart
DESCRIPTION:HEART is a one man show written and performed by myself\, Reece Lewis. This is a passion project that is essentially a love letter to all gay men . A story where gay men can see a little piece of themselves within the words and stories and where straight viewers can understand the intimacies of being gay in 2024. \nThe story follows a 24 year old gay man as he struggles to navigate the world of parties\, hookups and Grindr. HEART displays all of the best and worst parts about being gay. He wants to be loved deeply and passionately\, loves his friends\, family and the thought of finding that special someone. But it’s not that simple is it? Not when the world is constantly throwing shit at you. \nWe first meet Tyler confident and ready to take on the world. His insecurities are washed away and a sea of new opportunities have been set before him. He is what we all dream of being when we cry ourselves to bed at night\, terrified to tell the world who we really are. But that doesn’t mean everything is perfect. Tyler’s final hurdle to fully realising his self acceptance is his dad (who unfortunately is a worth adversary.) Tyler’s Dad is your typical old school homophobe. He spends most of his time down the pub\, watching the footie and shouting vulgar things at whoever he can get to listen. Tyler’s final struggle begins with the realisation that maybe his dad will simply never change. And that’s fine. You can’t change someone’s beliefs. But you sure as hell don’t have to take them lying down! \nTyler is a lover and a dreamer\, romantic and empathic to the world around him. We hope you will join as Tyler’s journey unfolds and he discovers the truths in himself and those around him. \nWELL PERFORMED. BEAUTIFULLY DONE. CRUCIAL SUBJECT. HOPE THIS REACHES THE WEST END. SUMMARY:Northbound Boy
DESCRIPTION:A new queer comedy starring Neil Ashton (It’s A Sin)\, Sarah Moyle (Doctors) and a stage debut from Heartstoppers’ Cormac Hyde-Corrin. They say all roads lead to Rome\, but the M64 leads to a ransacked family home and a mouse drowned in bisto. When 40 year old Ken picks up a younger man at the service station\, he soon realises Rory is looking for a different type of ride. After a short drive to Ken’s recently inherited home\, Rory makes a play for Ken’s family jewels\, only to discover Aunt Ivy’s already been in and whisked them away. This home certainly isn’t where his heart is\, and it’s not just the skeletons coming out of the closet. Northbound Boy is a queer comedy by James Hogan about a boy that steals your heart\, an aunt that steals your heirlooms and the value of what remains when everything else is gone. \nListings information: \nThe King’s Head Theatre\, 116 Upper St\, London N1 1QP \n13th – 18th August Tues – Fri 7pm\, Sat – Sun 6pm \n20th – 25th August Tues – Thurs 7pm\, Sat – Sun 6pm \n26th August – 1st September Mon – Thurs 7pm\, Sat 6pm\, Sun 3pm \n£30.00 – £22.50 (concs) | http://www.kingsheadtheatre.com | 0207 226 8561 \n  \nRuntime: 1 hr 15 m | Content Warnings: Drugs (Mild References) Sex\, Homophobia \nAge Guidance: 14+ \n

SUMMARY:SCREENSAVER + ME LOST ME + MARCEL WAVE
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm label showcase featuring… \nSCREENSAVER\nME LOST ME\nMARCEL WAVE\nWednesday 14 August\nCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL\n7.30pm | £11 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Q72f781acc64 \nSCREENSAVER is finally making its way to Europe and the UK this August. The Melbourne synth-punks blend the dark and moody elements of post-punk and new wave with synth sounds\, both caustic and cosmic\, to create a sound that is tense\, direct\, and often undeniably danceable. Their sophomore album ‘Decent Shapes’ was released in late 2023 on Upset The Rhythm to critical acclaim\, with praise from Rolling Stone\, Post-Trash and Maximum Rock’n’Roll. With extensive US and Aussie tours already under their belt\, the band is excited to make it to the UK and EU for the first time.\nhttps://screensaver.bandcamp.com/ \nME LOST ME delights in experimenting with songwriting and storytelling\, creating a beguiling mix of soaring vocals and atmospheric electronics that playfully push the boundaries of genre. Led by Newcastle-based artist Jayne Dent\, who takes influence from folk\, art pop\, noise\, ambient and improvised music\, the project has transformed since 2017 from a solo endeavour to an expanded group\, regularly collaborating with acclaimed North-East jazz musicians Faye MacCalman and John Pope. Me Lost Me’s music has been described in The Guardian as “stripping folk back to its bones while letting its future echoes bleed out”\, and by BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson as a “brilliant peculiar noise”. Me Lost Me’s latest RPG album was released last summer on Upset The Rhythm.\nhttps://www.melostme.com/ \nMarcel Waves writes eulogies for tragic actresses\, ancient riverbeds\, and concrete obscenity. Their inaugural sonic instalment\, ‘Something Looming’ (Upset The Rhythm)\, is part of a trades club symphony\, itchy serenade\, and wistful lament. As their heady concoction of ‘Meades meets Pat-E-Smith meets Kirklees Borough Council’ gets prepped to be formally baptised on a dank stage near you. Formed when Lindsay Corstorphine and Christopher Murphy of Sauna Youth and brethren Oliver and Patrick Fisher of Cold Pumas were summoned by northern ink-slinger Maike Hale-Jones\, Marcel Wave’s debut offering is a walk through a smoke-filled pub with yellowing wallpaper and all eyes on you. It’s a chronicle of the death of the docklands\, the decline of industry\, the high street\, civic pride\, civilisations\, hopes and dreams.\nhttps://marcel-wave.bandcamp.com
