This recipe has led to a string of sold-out shows in London at top club venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Bar\, Pizza Express and The Green Note. \n\n\n\nLocal Teddington musician Tim Penn is one of the most in-demand pianists on the London roots\, songwriter & blues scenes. As well as leading his own band\, he also plays piano with The Cadillac Kings (“The U.K.’s finest purveyors of blues & swing” Blues in Britain Magazine)\, who played a sold-out show at The Landmark in July 2023. The line-up consists of Nigel Appleton on drums (The Guvnor’s\, Regenesis)\, Francis Booth on bass\, Ayo Odia from Nigeria (Fela Kuti\, Osibisa) adding a touch of afro-beat sax into the mix\, and Chris Proctor\, a local jam scene legend\, on guitar. \n\n\n\nIn Tim’s own words: “This is the blues\, but with a great big smile on its face”.

Over the last 18 years the group have evolved from garage rock primitivists to auteurs of their own curious sound; a frothy brew of loose electronics\, refractory rock and humdrum musing. Their songs are mutable\, capricious\, unreliable narrations\, often withholding as much as they reveal. Russell Walker’s understated vocal has always been the band’s unifying focus\, it is wry\, unsparing and wilfully honest. Walker’s lyrics are an observational tour de force\, sometimes droll\, yet often tipping over into unlikely pathos. With previous releases on Upset The Rhythm\, Convulsive and Alter\, 2024 will witness The Pheromoans return with lucky album number 13\, entitled ‘Wyrd Psearch’ (out March 1st on Upset The Rhythm). \n‘Wyrd Psearch’ was recorded in Lewes throughout 2023. This was undertaken by founding member James Tranmer\, his keen instinct for how the band should sound shaping many of the creative decisions. Joined by new guitarist Henry Holmes\, the five piece doubled down on a decidedly breezy\, melodic approach. Scott Reeve’s drumming is ever brisk\, whilst Daniel Bolger explores AOR peripheries on keyboard and bass. “Wyrd Psearch finds us on relatively zestful form” affirms Walker “whether it be merrily recalling the Jason Williamson / Tim Lovejoy Covid summit\, or mentally bathing in the pleasures of lunch hours spent strapped to a listening post in Borders.” With The Pheromoans there is always a familiarity at play\, only broken and reassembled\, like a bygone sitcom gone rogue in your memory. Throughout all this\, his solo electronic venture Apostille has continued to evolve with each twist and turn of the world. What started off as a quest to whip up a mood and force that into a song has steadily become more of a mission in communication. DESCRIPTION:*This event has been postponed to 9 March 2024 due to train strikes\, we apologise for any inconvenience caused.*\n\nCurated by artist David Blandy and writer Jamie Sutcliffe in association with Strange Attractor Press\, Areas Of Effect: Planar Systems\, Critical Roles\, and Gaming Imaginaries is a one-day symposium on Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs) with live game sessions.\n\n\n\n\n\nForming part of arebyte’s programme The Body\, The Mind\, The Soul which questions the complex nature of humanity in the realm of technological progress\, the event brings together artists\, game designers\, theorists\, and philosophers to discuss these wildly expansive forms of play in which players utilise both their imaginations and chance mechanics (such as dice rolls) to determine the actions of fictional characters and the scenarios surrounding them.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe symposium looks at TTRPGs as the physical interface between the body and the imaginary\, addressing the hopes currently instilled in tabletop play to act as a transformative activity. DESCRIPTION:After four sold-out concerts in the Philharmonie de Paris and L’Auditorium of Lyon\, Rone brings hisacclaimed album L(oo)ping to London’s Barbican Centre. The album saw the producer collaboratewith the National Orchestra of Lyon to breathe new life into some of his most famed pieces. InLondon\, Rone will be joined on stage by Britain’s acclaimed London Contemporary Orchestra andconductor Robert Ames. L(oo)ping premiers at the Barbican on the 10th of March 2024. \n\n\n\nThroughout his long musical career\, Rone has dipped his toes in all corners of the arts\,collaborating with heaps of France’s most distinguished contemporary minds from the writer AlainDamasio\, the Marseilles Ballet group\, (LA)HORDE and film directors Jacques Audiard and SpikeJonze\, to name a few. This versatility has been central to his music and has distinguished Rone asof the most exciting acts in electronic music\, bestowing him high honours such as a Cesar andCannes Film Festival award for best film score. With his new album L(oo)ping\, Rone pushes hisdazzling acrobatics further with music that twirls and twists alongside the orchestra. \n\n\n\nIt was while working with Romain Allender (The Grand Budapest Hotel\, The Shape of Water) thatRone began to bridge his electronic world with that of the orchestra. The arranger selected tracksfrom Rone’s repertoire that would lend themselves to symphonic reinterpretations and brought these to stage in France. Amongst the selected songs is Tikkoun\, the theme of the series D’argent et de sang for which Rone released the soundtrack this year. The electro-classical pieces received rapturous responses from audiences and critics and would mark the birth of L(oo)ping with the album’s live recording followed in 2023. \n\n\n\nIn March\, conductor Robert Ames will lead the London Contemporary Orchestra to bringL(oo)ping to life in London’s Barbican Centre. “I have been a fan of Rone since first hearing hisalbum Spanish Breakfast. It’s been great to hear him move deeper and deeper intoorchestral music. Dame Anionwu is the UK’s first sickle cell specialist nurse. She has been appointed as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire\, a fellow of the Royal College of Nursing and given the Order of Merit\, something no nurse has received since Florence Nightingale. \nMost recently known for her important historical role at the King’s Coronation\, carrying the gold Sovereign Orb during the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on Saturday\, 6th May 2023. \nDame Anionwu published her memoir ‘Dreams From My Mother’ in both paperback and audiobook in 2021. \nDr Idowu will be in conversation with Dame Anionwu\, followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
