DESCRIPTION:An intimate portrait of the relationship between Karel Schwarzenberg\, Chancellor to Václav Havel\, a key figure of post-November 1989 Czech politics and the head of one of the oldest and richest noble families\, and his daughter Lila Schwarzenberg. \n\n\n\nThe filmmaker\, who admits being afraid of her reticent and overpowering father when younger\, uses a camera to facilitate a difficult and long overdue father-daughter conversation daringly probing into their shared past and complicated relationship. Her story of a girl\, who resists convention and aristocratic protocols while growing up in a family tradition dominated by men and hereditary princes\, is woven into the story of her famous\, charismatic father whose childhood was marked by dispossession and expulsion\, and who despite all odds became a statesman\, head of Schwarzenberg family and revolutionary. DESCRIPTION:Get real with nature and the rhythm of the drum! \n\n\n\nJoin Gambian drummer Seneke Sillah for an uplifting session of African drumming\, song and movement set in 100 acres of beautiful woodland at the Organiclea site in North Chingford. \n\n\n\nGroup drumming has been proven effective in enhancing well-being and social resilience\, as well as the alleviation of depression and anxiety. \n\n\n\nWeather permitting\, activities will take place outdoors. In the case of inclement weather\, the session will take place in the woodland classroom. \n\n\n\nLight refreshments will be provided. \n\n\n\nAll levels and abilities are welcome. All drums are provided but feel free to bring your own drum if you want to. \n\n\n\nWellbeing Walk \n\n\n\nParticipants can also join us for a 30-minute well-being walk after the session in the woodland next to Organiclea. You will need suitable footwear for uneven or muddy ground. Our walk leader has completed the Ramblers Wellbeing Walk Leader training and leads weekly wellbeing walks for Leyton Orient Trust in Walthamstow. \n\n\n\nAccessibility \n\n\n\nAccess to workshop areas is step-free\, but the terrain can be uneven as outdoors. DESCRIPTION:The Thames Valley Harriers (TVH) athletic club and the Czech Centre (CC) have the pleasure to invite you to the second London charity run organised in the name of the brilliant Czech runner Emil Zátopek to raise funds toward The Zátopek‘s Athletic Fellowships supporting young athletes in Western London. \nThe legendary Czech runner Emil Zátopek (1922-2000)\, nicknamed Czech locomotive\, won his first Olympic medal in London in 1948. Best known for his distinctive running style and his many athletic achievements and records – up to this date Zátopek remains the only runner to win the 5\,000m\, the 10\,000m and the marathon at the same Olympic Games\, which he obtained in Helsinki in 1952. Doors open at 19:00; the show begins at 19:30. Admission is 10£. \nThe evening will feature dada performances from a range of performing artists\, poets\, and musicians including Derek Adams\, Mahnaz Badihian\, Sam Dodson\, Rachel Dixon\, Salvatore Esposito\, Massimo Fantuzzi\, Becky Fawcett\, John Goodby\, Yvonne Litschel\, D. M. SUMMARY:AI: Prompting Images of Digital Life
DESCRIPTION:With the recent emergence of image-generating AI systems such as DALL-E\, Stable Diffusion and Midjourney\, the task of generating images with computers has been remodelled as a text-based process known as ‘prompting’. \nPrompting involves instructing a pre-trained AI model to hallucinate images in reaction to the specifics of text-based inputs. Prompts dictate image style\, composition and genre to the extent that images generated using these systems often appear as weird pastiches\, with giveaway aesthetic signals – 8-fingered hands\, for example – that point to their artificial origins. \nWorkshop participants will experiment with trying to find the cracks in these systems\, using creative prompting to explore whether these systems really are the dawn of a new horizon\, offering the potential for breakthroughs in digital image-making beyond the offset of human labour. \nParticipants are required to bring their laptops. \nJames Irwin’s bio \nJames Irwin is an Artist\, PhD researcher at Kingston School of Art\, Lecturer at UAL and Digital Media Tutor at the Royal Academy Schools. He works with web technologies\, AI systems and digital sound and image to investigate the notion of a vital life force inherent within digital media. \nBy creating cognitive assemblages – made from a combination of networked digital hardware\, software and human wetware – his work builds from new materialist ideas around recentering the human\, undoing our role as autonomous individuals and pointing to the ways in which the production of subjectivity is offset to forces outside of our bodies; the posthuman is biological\, but also networked and dispersed through machines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:On 9th September\, as part of Open City’s 2023 Open House Festival\, the historic Grade II* listed Brentford & Isleworth Quaker Meeting House will be opening its doors to visitors for free\, alongside a programme of local arts & cultural events!\n\nGuests are invited to wander the grounds\, look around the building and view a selection of artefacts from the Meeting House’s history\, as well as learning a bit more about the building and the people who’ve used it from the 1700s to the present day. The building will be open from 10-4\, and refreshments will be provided. \nThroughout the day\, there will also be community arts events open to all – including an exhibition from local group Osterley Art for All and friends\, craft workshops for all skill levels from local makers\, and a half-hour chamber music performance from Syon Early Music Group – performing music by Thomas Campian\, Telemann (chosen to be contemporary to the building)\, and for English theatre. \nEvents are free to attend\, but some may require booking in advance via Open House’s website. An adult must participate if anyone under the age of 18 is joining the class. \n\n\n\nThe nibbles and the coffees of this tasting class are not changeable. \n\n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION: \n\n\n\nIf more than 9 people book the class\, all attendees or some (depending on final numbers)\, will have to share some equipment and the table. \n\n\n\nRefund and cancellation policy \n\n\n\nOur classes are non-refundable. No changes are allowed if the class is missed. When you register for a class\, you agree to these terms. \n\n\n\nShould you not be able to attend\, you can either: \n\n\n\n– Make someone else attend on your behalf \n\n\n\n– Request at least five working days before the date of your class\, to postpone it to another in the same month\, depending on availability. \n\n\n\nLa Scuola requires a minimum of 5 participants per class and reserves the right to cancel the class due to insufficient enrolment or if the school needs to postpone due to an unforeseen occurrence. We will\, at your convenience\, transfer you onto another course; if this option does not suit you\, you will receive a full refund.
