SUMMARY:Brick Lane Bookshop presents ‘Sunday Strolls: So you want to go to Columbia Road?’
DESCRIPTION:Brick Lane Bookshop presents ‘Sunday Strolls: So you want to go to Columbia Road?’\, an alternative guided tour of one of the East End’s most popular destinations. \n\n\n\nSo\, you want to go to Columbia Road?  And who can blame you? That nice young couple with a baby struggling to push a fully grown palm tree onto a number eight bus tells you you’re not far from Britain’s biggest flower and plant market\, which only trades on Sunday mornings. But we’re not going to take the direct route. We’re going to follow some diverting diversions which show how much secret history can be found down some seemingly nondescript side streets any day of the week. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a ninety-minute walk of paths\, turnings\, and tales less told. You’ll visit a graffiti gallery most visitors miss\, see a sad\, inspirational statue\, and meet two extraordinary characters\, one nasty and one nice! \n\n\n\nFOR TWO WEEKENDS ONLY – SUNDAY THE 6th AND 13th OF AUGUST AT NOON.  \n\n\n\nTours start at Brick Lane Bookshop and are limited to small groups\, so please book early to avoid disappointment. \n\n\n\nPlease note although not a long walk\, the route includes two sets of stairs.

SUMMARY:Harp & Tap
DESCRIPTION:The Celtic harp and tap dance join forces in this sparkling performance\, drawing inspiration from the world of concerts\, theatre and musical experimentation. \n\n\n\n“Harp & Tap” consists of a series of musical tableaus that express a colourful combination of sounds and rhythms: from a grotesque mask of the Italian “commedia dell’arte” to the pulsating beat of ragtime from the 1930s. Swing and groove dialogue with the multiple sounds of the harp outline the characters of the two protagonists on stage. \n\n\n\nGet ready for a unique crescendo of artistic fusion where strings and steps intertwine. \n\n\n\nIn 2018 Adriano and Ilaria met at a tap dance class\, he as a student and she as a teacher. Fascinated by innovation in their professional fields\, the two artists try to blend the sounds of the Celtic harp with the rhythmic phrasing of tap dance\, and the result is beyond the lines. \n\n\n\nAfter several performances in Italian theatres\, Harp & Tap comes to the Camden Fringe 2023.

SUMMARY:Jazz In The Round: James Kitchman’s First Quartet + More TBA
DESCRIPTION:JAMES KITCHMAN’S FIRST QUARTETA group led by “quietly rebellious” [Songlines Magazine] guitarist James Kitchman featuring a cast of London’s finest improvisers: pianist Bruno Heinen (Denys Baptiste); bassist Tom McCredie (Elliot Galvin Trio); and drummer Shane Forbes (Empirical). They play James’ compositions which draw influence from the variety of musical worlds he traverses; from jazz\, to chamber music\, to contemporary folk\, to ambient electronica. \n\n\n\nImprovisation and empathy are at the core of the group’s spirit; conjuring a sound that is at once stark and refreshing. His debut recording ‘First Quartet’ on Ubuntu Music label was released in 2022 with airplay on BBC Radio 3\, Jazz FM\, and Soho Radio\, a rapturous reception from the jazz press\, and over 500\,000 streams on Spotify in the first six months of its release.

SUMMARY:Nicholas Ferguson / Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Perspective at The Coningsby Gallery is British-Swiss artist Nicholas Ferguson’s first solo show and will showcase a series of striking self-portraits and paintings paired with poetry\, likened in their palette to the works of Peter Doig and Edvard Munch and compared thematically to Surrealism. \n\n\n\nFerguson believes in the transformative power of art\, and he is interested in how the ego while serving to keep us safe\, can prevent us from reaching our full\, unbounded potential. In his paintings\, the goat (ego) and the featherless rooster (creative genius) are set within fantastical narratives that occur to him intuitively. \n\n\n\nHe has exhibited in numerous group shows in London\, Italy and Switzerland\, winning the ‘Most Uplifting’ award at the Lockdown Collective exhibition at the Department Store Gallery\, Brixton\, in 2021. His work can be viewed @TheColourofSplash \n\n\n\n“Self-reflective” zoom-portrait commissions are another part of Nicholas Ferguson’s practice\, and those interested in commissioning a portrait are invited to contact The Coningsby Gallery. \n\n\n\nNicholas Ferguson / Perspective31 July – 12 August 2023The Coningsby Gallery\, 30 Tottenham Street\, London\, W1T 4RJOpen Mon–Fri\, 10.30 am–7 pm\, Sat 11–6 pm \n\n\n\ninfo@coningsbygallery.com07884 314361coningsbygallery.com

SUMMARY:"The Good Women" at Kensington & Chelsea Festival
DESCRIPTION:“The Good Women” is a brand-new funny\, bold and romantic piece of theatre inspired by a true queer love story. \n\n\n\nIt’s the 1960s\, the world is changing. Protesters take the streets against the Vietnam war\, hippies celebrate free love and a young band called “The Beatles” is rising to fame. But not in Switzerland\, where women did not get the vote until the 1970s and were legally confined to the kitchen and household. \n\n\n\nBette\, the star of a popular TV cooking show\, and Trudy\, a housewife\, are about to change that. \n\n\n\nYou’ll laugh\, you’ll cry\, you’ll meet two extraordinary women \n\n\n\n“The poignant two-hander depicts burgeoning love against a backdrop of political struggle. Simply staged\, the romcom plot balances witty humour\, social injustice & emancipation.” – Fringe Biscuit \n\n\n\n“This thoughtful glimpse into the difficulties faced by women in the 1960s is gently uplifting\, An encouragement to continue the fight for change.” – The British Theatre Guide

Our phones alert us to groundbreaking news events daily as we open Instagram to consume others’ lives and are sold the world of excess. \n\n\n\nWe eagerly divulge into celebrity gossip\, following the conspiracies of every supermodel-turned-influencer. SUMMARY:CURRENT AFFAIRS + THE PLAN + GROSS MISCONDUCT
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \n\n\n\nCURRENT AFFAIRSTHE PLANGROSS MISCONDUCTWednesday 26 JulyThe Lexington\, 96-98 Pentonville Rd\, Angel\, London\, N1 9JB7.30pm | £8.00 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/O2543ad5f210 \n\n\n\nCURRENT AFFAIRS are a band from Glasgow marrying 80s pop sensibilities with ferocious post-punk\, neatly navigating the line between new wave and goth. Though Joan Sweeney (ex-Rose McDowall’s Band\, Aggi Doom\, The Royal We) is a lifer\, Sebastian Ymai (Comidillo Tapes\, Pissy\, Anxiety) came from Chile via York\, recently relocating to Berlin in 2021\, and new member Gemma Fleet (The Wharves\, Order of the Toad\, Dancer) alongside Andrew Milk (Shopping\, Pink Pound) were persuaded to leave London for the ‘second city’ after touring through with previous bands. However\, Glasgow is the heart and hub of the band’s music\, and musical life and the place where the forthcoming album Off the Tongue (Tough Love) was solidified and produced.Written from within the world of crumbling services\, broken bonds and wounded spirits\, Off the Tongue rolls off an ecstatic rage\, filled with hope for you\, them and everyone else. It’s a rallying cry away from hopelessness\, forgiving your fears and laying them to waste. Their album holds a place for you to be angry and to be focused. In lieu of having anything else\, we’ve always got each other\, and an uncertain future is an open game for us too.https://currentaffairs.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nTHE PLAN is a continually evolving outfit which includes members who have previously appeared in bands like Wetdog\, Vic Godard and The Subway Sect\, Hot Silk Pockets\, Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts\, Reverend Pike\, and Private Trousers. Sometimes described as post-punk\, they also pull from more diverse influences such as no wave\, garage\, and psych\, as well as hints of prog. Their songs often move in unexpected directions and are always pinned together by Rebecca Gillieron’s sometimes defiant/sometimes soft vocal melodies. After fine-tuning new songs to completion this year\, here’s a chance to hear material from their second album\, recently recorded by Toby Borrough from Pozi\, and being mixed as we write.https://theplan1.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nGROSS MISCONDUCT are a conceptually foggy\, bureaucratically sound landfill punk from South London. Featuring members of Killjoys\, MILKY\, Strong Arm and Surplus. FFO Exit Order\, The Cribs\, Be Your Own Pet and corporate telephone hold music. Fresh off probation\, mandatory training completed and ready for synergy. EP is upcoming\, check out their demo now!https://grossmisconduct69.bandcamp.com

You have to show up for yourself to initiate your transformation journey. We’ll do the rest. \n\n\n\nStarting July 24th\, this free\, 4-day livestream event presents 16 speakers — from somatic healers\, renegade economists\, tarot and human design visionaries\, microdosing and cannabis experts\, sexual wellness and IFS therapists\, grief/trauma and embodiment coaches\, and sustainability pioneers – who will share their guidance to create space for you to reimagine what your life can look like. \n\n\n\nSpeakers include Luis Mojica (@holistic.life.navigation)\, Fanny Priest (@the.trauma.witch)\, Eli Lawliet (@thegenderdoula)\, Dr. Amanda Reiman (@dr.amandareiman)\, Ana Maria Badila (@microdosingguru)\, Dr. Juliana Hauser (@drjulianahauser)\, Kelsey Rose Tortorice (@kelseyrosetort)\, Wendy Kornburg (@sunnabis)\, Julie Ewald (@identityyoga_)\, Dr. Stephanie Najjar\, Lex Ritchie (@thelexritchie)\, Adrienne Sloan (@adrienne_sloan)\, Della Duncan (@dellazduncan/@upstreampodcast)\, Dr. Crystal Dawn (@drcrystaldawn) and more. \n\n\n\nThese visionaries will share their expertise on the different ways to peel back the layers of conditioning we’ve all been exposed to (spoiler – if you’re alive in 2023 and reading this\, you’ve been exposed) so we can remember who we truly are and begin to live the lives we’ve been called to embody. From PhDs to healers to chefs to sexperts and more\, they have assembled to create a web of support that takes you from the life of convention and inertia into a life that’s liberated and filled with your unique purpose. If you like the status quo\, this is not a summit for you. If you’re tired of following the rules\, working too hard and becoming more “successful” while feeling more depleted than ever\, or feel like life went greyscale while you were tending to your to-do list and want the technicolour dreams of your future back\, this is your place\, and these are your people. \n\n\n\nAbout Omnia Network: Omnia Network is a brand-new online learning platform that features expert-vetted information on holistic wellness topics such as psychedelics\, sexual wellness\, green living\, grief and trauma healing\, tarot and human design\, somatic healing\, and more. The live workshops\, intensives\, and community meetups cover a variety of wellness topics that have often been deemed unconventional and taboo\, which is why reliable\, authoritative knowledge in these areas can be difficult to find until now. All the experts are respected leaders and authorities in their field\, making guidance on these sacred and oftentimes vulnerable subjects all the more impactful and trustworthy. Omnia makes learning about these areas of transformation accessible\, affordable\, and straightforward – they light the path back to one’s true self. \n\n\n\nAbout Omnia’s Founder\, Allison Mandell: She is the CEO and Founder of Omnia Network and has herself been burnt to a crisp working as an Executive Producer in television for 15 years\, focusing primarily on diverse and female-led content\, with emphasis on comedy\, adventure\, travel\, food\, and renovation television. When she wasn’t working\, she was completely devoted to her spiritual life and is no stranger to workshops in every area of spirituality\, sustainability\, and healing. By combining her skills from TV production with her love of workshops and transformative healing studies\, Omnia Network was the best way for her to engage both her heart and her mind in her life purpose. After recognizing that the systems in place would not support a healthy work/life balance\, and after reaching the pinnacle of her industry and feeling more depleted and unfulfilled than ever\, she recognized that it was time to build the very thing she needed: a safe community to unlearn oppressive structures so she could relearn who she really is and bring that essence into the world. And thus\, Omnia was born. Allison is a female leader not only in a gnarly\, heavily male-dominated television industry\, but she is also pioneering in making expert-led\, online learning for holistic wellness accessible. \n\n\n\nEvent Highlights: \n\n\n\nTransformative Keynote Presentations: Renowned experts and visionaries will share their insights\, experiences\, and strategies for transforming one’s life\, providing attendees with impactful knowledge and inspiration to make actionable changes that lead to a more authentic and meaningful life – that can begin today. \n\n\n\nDirect Expert Feedback: Participants can ask these groundbreaking experts direct questions on how to integrate different healing modalities into their life and get real-time responses – all for free. \n\n\n\nDiscover A Community: Connect with like-minded folks who want the same things you do – to change their lives in a way that provides space for one’s authentic purpose\, weirdness\, and joy. \n\n\n\nExclusive Access: Gain access to exclusive prerecorded workshops\, resources\, research\, and tools to help disrupt the disempowering patterns in one’s life and replace them with self-discovery and embodied aliveness. \n\n\n\nRegistration for The Self-Renewal Summit is now open; to learn more about the event\, explore the speakers\, and secure your spot\, visit http://www.omnianetwork.com.

SUMMARY:BARBARA MANNING + JOWE HEAD
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm & Cafe OTO present… \n\n\n\nBARBARA MANNINGJOWE HEADMonday 24 JulyCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL8pm | £12 | Tickets: https://www.cafeoto.co.uk/events/28th-day-barbara-manning/ \n\n\n\nBARBARA MANNING is an American indie rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. In addition to her solo career\, Manning has been active in a number of bands\, including 28th Day (with Cole Marquis)\, World of Pooh\, S.F. Seals and The Go-Luckys! She has also distinguished herself as an interpreter of other writers’ songs. Artists she has covered include The Bats (“Smoking Her Wings”)\, Richard Thompson (“The End of the Rainbow”)\, Jackson Browne (“These Days”)\, Portastatic (“Through With People”)\, and Amon Düül (“Marcus Leid”). The idiosyncratic but rewarding Barbara Manning is a little too spiky and odd to fit comfortably in the Lilith Fair crowd\, but her best work outshines those of her bigger-selling peers. Manning’s artistic restlessness and her tendency to jump in and out of bands and recording situations make it difficult to follow her career — her discography must be one of the most confusing in all of the ’90s indie scene — but it also makes her one of the most vital and interesting singer/songwriters of her era.https://barbaramanning.bandcamp.com \n\n\n\nJOWE HEAD is a musician and artist from the Midlands of England\, now living in Hackney\, in east London. He started his musical career in his home town of Solihull with various school friends in 1972\, a project that came to be known as Swell Maps. This group emerged in the late 1970s\, are now known as a pioneer of what is now referred to as the Alternative Rock or Post-Punk scene. They set up their own independent record label and mixed Punk Rock with experimental and psychedelic sounds. Swell Maps released four singles and two albums in a brief but dramatic career\, that led to them topping the UK independent charts and influencing bands such as Sonic Youth\, Nirvana\, and Blur. When they broke up\, Jowe joined Television Personalities. Ten years with the TVPs saw Jowe making more influential records\, touring Europe regularly\, and playing in Japan and the USA.https://jowe-head.com/bio
