SUMMARY:Lost Narratives: A Hidden World of Urbex Photography
DESCRIPTION:Join Atlas Obscura for a talk on urban exploration — Urbex — and what it takes to photograph abandoned buildings all over the world. \nUrban Exploration has always been a popular pastime to rule breakers and renegades\, but with the advent of social media\, especially Instagram\, there has been a new rise in its visibility. Once only available to those who were willing to risk the dangers of entering decaying structures\, modern technology has made it possible for photographers to share what’s inside ruins around the world with the world. Viewing this practice through the eyes of an expert will help us uncover more about the compulsion to go off the beaten track and share these discoveries. \nThe talk will be given by urban explorerer and photographer Claire Alaxandra Powell\, and she’ll discuss how keeping secrets within the urbex community helps preserve these structures for the future\, and the history behind the places she’s photographed all over Europe. Claire herself has been hunting for ruins for the past decade in England\, Germany\, Italy\, Vietnam\, Cambodia\, the United States\, and more\, and will bring this wealth of experience and knowledge to share. \nOur event will be hosted in the Asylum Chapel\, an 1824 chapel whose interior was ruined by an incendiary device during World War II. The interior\, almost entirely destroyed from the explosion\, remains in much the same state today.

SUMMARY:Hit The Ground Single Launch
DESCRIPTION:This is a launch party for his unreleased single ‘Hit The Ground’ which is to be released on the 15th March\, with an audio premiere from Atwood Magazine. As well as this support Tadhg has also been featured in publications such as GigSlutz\, Louder Than War\, It’s All Indie\, Fortitude. Along with online publications\, Tadhg has had some great support with BBC Introducing London as well as BBC Introducing Jersey. \nBorn and bred Jersey boy Tadhg Daly\, returns with Indie-ballad track ‘Hits The Ground’ that will be released on all major streaming platforms. Having over 75k Spotify streams on Daly’s latest track ‘Fires’\, you can expect nothing less than a heart-warming alternative styled saga. Tadhg exclaims that ‘Hit the Ground’ “is a really important song to me. It sort of represents what I consider to be my “re-birth” as a person. That may sound terribly cheesy\, but I can’t think of another way to put it.” \nThe singer then continues to quote\, that the track is about “letting go of the fear that stops us from pursuing what we love and prevents us from being the version of ourselves we dream of being.” Which is represented by the ‘guiding’ voice in the track that represents his caring family\, especially his mother that he describes her as a ‘spiritual guru’\, a message that Tadhg reflects within the song.

SUMMARY:Blakey's Boys
DESCRIPTION:Firmly established as one of the UK’s finest jazz outfits\, Blakey’s Boys sold out every show in 2017 and 2018. Blakey’s Boys pays tribute to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers with an all star band. \nOpening with songs from Blakey’s hit album Moanin’\, the boys play arrangements of favourites such as Blues March\, Moanin’ and Are You Real. The band play with Blakey’s trademark raw energy and deep swing whilst paying homage to composers Benny Golson\, Lee Morgan\, Bobby Timmons and Wayne Shorter. \n \nBetween numbers\, Ronnie Scott’s Paul Pace takes the stage to narrate the Art Blakey story and give a vivid picture of the various editions of the Messengers\, their featured players along with personal recollections of their live performances. \nThe second set is a selection of the favourites from Blakey’s career with the band storming in with tunes such as Ping Pong\, Nica’s Dream\, Caravan and A Night in Tunisia to name a few. \nExpect a night of hard swinging action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. \n  \n \n  \n“A musical journey featuring all of the Blakey favourites.\nThe band capture the true Blakey energy and deliver an explosive performance.”\nTime Out London \nThe band was formed 3 years ago for a one of Jazz Festival in France. Using the compositions of Lee Morgan\, Bobby Timmons\, Wayne Shorter and Lee Morgan the band took to the stage to tell the Blakey story. Playing to sold out venues in the 2015 and 2016 EFG London Jazz Festivals\, word started to get around about the new Jazz Messengers band. Kicking 2017 off with yet another sell out gig at Pizza Express\, Blakey’s Boys are set for big things in 2017! \n“A toe tapping\, finger clicking gig that swings hard and delivers an entertaining and educational performance.”\nMidlands Arts Review \nPaul Pace – Narrator\nMatt Telfer – Saxophone / Band Leader\nAndy Davies – Trumpet\nChris Jerome – Piano\nMiles Danso – Double Bass\nGabor Dornyei – Drums \n  \nGET YOUR TICKETS HERE\n

SUMMARY:The quantum revolution in science and technology
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the science and the latest technology of quantum behaivour. \nModern research instruments can measure spectacularly small changes of length\, time or energy. They use the quantum behaviour of atoms and light to achieve their extraordinary sensitivity. These devices help scientists to learn more about the very smallest of things – for example the shape of the electron – and also the very large – for example how the universe began. \nNow\, the same types of instruments are starting to benefit society more generally. This Quantum Technology promises new capabilities ranging across IT security\, navigation\, medical imaging\, mineral detection\, simulation of complex systems\, and many others topics. \nIn this lecture Professor Edward Hinds will explain what quantum behaviour is\, and how these research instruments work. Professor Hinds will discuss the current state of quantum science\, and the prospects for transforming society through the emergence of quantum technology. \nAttending the event\n– Free to attend\n– No registration required\n– Doors open from 18:00\, and seats are allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis\n– Live subtitles will be available\n– British Sign Language interpretation will be available on request.\n– This event may be popular\, and entry cannot be guaranteed \nFor more information\, please follow this link: https://royalsociety.org/science-events-and-lectures/2019/03/bakerian-lecture/
