SUMMARY:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke\, and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography
DESCRIPTION:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography connects the world of interwar analogue photography with the visual aesthetics of today’s digital age. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to trace how the image has transformed over two centuries—from tangible traces of light to synthetic visual worlds created by artificial intelligence. \nThe exhibition presents iconic works by Josef Sudek and Jaromír Funke\, whose photographs demonstrate how light\, composition\, and atmosphere can transform reality into poetic or constructive visual worlds. These classical approaches are complemented by historical photomontages\, double exposures\, and analogue manipulations\, showing how deeply the desire to reshape the image is established in the tradition of photography. The historical works in the exhibition are drawn from the PPF Art collection\, which plays a key role in preserving and presenting Czech photographic heritage. \nThe contemporary section of the exhibition develops this dialogue through artists working with AI and generative technologies. In her work Your Addiction Is the Message\, Barbora Trnková reveals the mechanisms of visual dependency in the digital environment and the role of technologies in shaping our perceptions. Lenka Hamošová\, in the project Troubling GAN and the series Strange Attractions\, explores both the aesthetics and limitations of neural networks\, showing how algorithms create and reproduce stereotypes or visual hallucinations. A collaborative work by Trnková and Javůrek\, Generation of Princesses\, uses generative models to critically reflect on pop-culture ideals of femininity and their digital reconstruction. The exhibition offers a visually compelling and accessible perspective on how our understanding of the image\, reality\, and the things we are willing to believe when we look\, is changing. \nOrganised by the Czech Centre with the kind support of the PPF Foundation. \nEXHIBITION OPENING\nTuesday 20 January 2026\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\nFree entry\, REGISTER HERE: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pixels-and-poetics-private-view-tickets-1977922480383?aff=oddtdtcreator\nEXHIBITION DATES: 20 January – 13 March 2026\nVENUES & OPENING TIMES \nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nBouda Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n132 Palace Gardens Terrace\, Kensington\, London\, W8 4RT\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nPublic space outside of the Czech Embassy\, London\n26 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4RT\nAccessible 24/7

SUMMARY:Peter Peri in Conversation with Dávid Fehér – Book launch and display of recent paintings
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Liszt Institute London for an evening celebrating the launch of a new monograph on Peter Peri\, published by Einspach Czapolai Fine Art. \nPeri will be in conversation with Dávid Fehér\, Director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts. Their discussion will explore Peri’s artistic practice\, key themes in his work\, and the ideas shaping his most recent projects\, offering insight into both the newly published monograph and his wider artistic trajectory. \nThe event will also feature a display of Peri’s latest paintings in the gallery\, providing a unique opportunity to experience his practice first-hand alongside the critical perspectives presented in the publication. \nCopies of the book will be available on site. All are welcome to attend. Register via Eventbrite. \n\n\nPeter Peri (b. 1971\, London) \nPeter Peri’s primary media are drawing\, sculpture\, and painting: three distinct bodies of work that are developed independently by the artist to create a complex set of interrelations. All works are specifically invested in the tension between line and volume\, figuration and abstraction\, and in the questioning of tradition and influence in Modernism. \nA graduate of Chelsea College of Art\, he made his debut at Bloomberg New Contemporaries in 2003. He has exhibited widely internationally\, including Tate Britain\, the Hayward Gallery\, and Kunsthalle Basel. Peri’s work can be found in the collections of Tate\, the Victoria & Albert Museum\, and the Museum of Fine Arts\, Budapest. Peri’s work has a personal connection to Modernism. His grandfather was Peter László Péri (1899–1967)\, a Hungarian émigré to Britain who was involved in Constructivism before turning to architecture and later in his life to Realism \n\n\nDávid Fehér \nDávid Fehér is an art historian\, director of the Central European Research Institute for Art History of the Museum of Fine Arts\, and assistant professor at the Institute of Art History at the Eötvös Loránd University. His research covers 20th-century and contemporary art\, including Pop Art\, Photorealism\, and related movements. He has curated numerous exhibitions and has published widely in academic journals\, exhibition catalogues\, and art publications. He is a member of the Hungarian Section of the International Association of Art Critics.

SUMMARY:SUSANNAH STARK & BAND + POTIK
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nSUSANNAH STARK & BAND\nPOTIK\nTuesday 20 January\nTheatreship\, South Quay Plaza\, London\, E14 9SH\n7.30pm | £10 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Db4300074e6f \nSUSANNAH STARK’s new album opens with questions that set its reflective tone while drifting on a current of birdsong\, rivers and synths. Sung in Gaidhlig and English\, her second album for Stroom and Night School\, ‘Minor Gestures’\, is a dialogue between place\, history and the listener. Collaborating with experimental and folk musicians in Glasgow\, Stark navigates acoustic textures with fluidity while blending breath\, drone and rhythm. The result is a meditative soundscape that celebrates vulnerability and curiosity. From the responsive waters of ‘Caochan’ to the unanswered queries of ‘Ceistean gun freagairtean’\, this is ritualistic sonic poetry. \nhttps://susannahstarkmusic.bandcamp.com/ \nPOTIK is artist Karolina Lebek\, working across a range of media including video\, photography\, sound\, installation and live performance. Her practice\, exploring interests in consciousness\, ecology and mental health\, gives new form to the exploration of the sacred\, the ritual and the body\, in the context of geological time. Through the desire to capture the affect of memory\, she’s expressing subtle and perturbing worlds\, building her own lexicon of symbolic language\, populated by unspoken narratives\, and haunting material mysteries\, exploring emotional and physical worlds\, both within oneself and those around us. \n \n

SUMMARY:REUNION 79:21 - Revisiting Black Queer London Clubland
DESCRIPTION:For a short run of five days\, queer club culture returns to Soho with an archival exhibition exploring over four decades of Black queer nightlife and community in London. \n  \nWhereas focus is often placed on the white gay scene\, this exhibition showcases the history of Black queer club culture from the late 1970s to the present by documenting lived experience\, collective memory and self-representation through previously unpublished images and memorabilia sourced from public and private archives. \n  \nIn the 1980s\, Black queer and trans people in the UK began to attend underground parties as sanctuaries from discrimination\, creating community through music and dance. Inspired by the queer collectives in Chicago and Detroit\, the London nightlife scene combined US musical forms with home grown genres. \n  \nBrothers Steve and Dave Swindell were at the heart of London clubland\, Steve running successful nights like ‘The Lift’ and ‘Jungle’ with Dave documenting the emergence of Black queer visibility. His intimate imagery is shown alongside Jason Manning’s photographs taken in the bolder years that followed. \n  \nREUNION 79:21 is complemented by a programme of films and talks that expand on themes of kinship and shared belonging\, HIV and early LGBTQ activism\, and the fight for individual sovereignty at a critical time in the UK.

SUMMARY:Iconomorphosis
DESCRIPTION:Iconomorphosis describes the transformation of meaning through works of art that conceal their message until placed in a relevant cultural context. The eight artists in in this exhibition explore deceptive realities in contemporary life with works ranging from painting and sculpture to film and performance. \nCurated by Othello De’Souza-Hartley\, the exhibition addresses the tension between internal perceptions and external preconceptions\, through visual codes and symbolisms informed by individual experience and collective memory. \nKamalishe Hiraldo\, Arlene Wandera and Abdollah Nafisi explore notions of belonging through working with discarded\, rejected or repurposed objects and materials\, while Taballa Tabasom’s practice is an enquiry into body memory and belonging through gendered and queer perspectives. \nWorking in sculpture and film respectively\, Sonia E Barrett and Blue Smith transform historical objects and archival footage into tools of narrative-making from within a postcolonial framework. \nOthello De’Souza’s integrates found objects into his predominantly black paintings as an invitation to look beyond first impressions or perceived imperfections\, while the ‘Black Nausea’ in BLCKGEEZER’s work has its origin in the artist’s ongoing experience of breast cancer and chemotherapy. \nWhether picked at random or for their inherent qualities\, for aesthetic or emotional reasons\, the elements that inform the works in Iconomorphosis provide a visual bridge between remembered pasts and imagined futures and question notions of unconditional truth.

SUMMARY:Shadow Fate - Theatre Performance for the Day of Hungarian Culture
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture\, we warmly invite you to the one-act performance\, Shadow Fate on January 22\, 2026\, at Hungary House\, produced by Klebelsberg Castle Chamber Theatre. \n\n \n\nThe drama is based on the diary ‘Our Life Path’ by Sarolta Botka\, wife of Kuno von Klebelsberg. Through her perspective\, the audience can get a glimpse into the daily life of this exceptional politician and his love and marriage\, revealing a tableau of the 20th century’s dramas—from the fall of the Monarchy and Trianon\, through the two world wars\, to communist deportation. Sarolta’s viewpoint illuminates Klebelsberg’s human character and achievements\, while her post-WWII ordeals as a widow highlight the paradoxical cruelty of communism. \nFollowing her successful drama Ilona Zrinyi\, Mária Hedry brings this tumultuous life to the stage: Klebelsberg’s figure and his era’s contradictions take center stage through Sarolta’s lonely fate. The play draws on scholarly research—including works by Gábor Ujvári\, István Bethlen\, and Ignác Romsics—alongside contemporary sources\, enriched by the author’s imagination. \nCount Kuno von Klebelsberg (1875–1932) was a defining cultural politician of interwar Hungary. As Minister of Religion and Public Education (1922–1931)\, he implemented reforms to address Trianon losses: building thousands of rural schools\, modernising universities\, promoting folk education\, and founding overseas cultural institutes (Collegium Hungaricum) for national survival. \nThe 80-minute\, one-act performance will be performed in Hungarian with English subtitles. \n\n\nCast: \n\nSarolta: Edit Majzik\nEmma\, Márta\, Hubayné\, Róza\, peasant woman: Delinke Gajdó\nSzentgyörgyi\, doctor\, German officer\, Russian officer\, Hungarian comrade: Attila Petneházy\n\nSet\, costumes: Katalin Libor\nDirector: Attila Petneházy

SUMMARY:The Highgate Vampire - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A riotous new dark comedy. London\, 1970. A Vampire lurks in Highgate Cemetery… \nMore of this is true than we would like. \nLondon\, 1970. \nSomething horrifying stalks the streets of London. A creature with blazing red eyes\, sucking the life out of all who cross its path\, leaving only terror in its wake. \nA demon-hunting Priest and his sworn enemy\, a man who’s a tobacconist by day and a vanquisher of the undead by night\, both set out to destroy the creature forever. An uneasy alliance. London’s own vampire. Both are heading to the dark heart of Highgate. \nAnd now\, if you’re sitting comfortably\, they will tell you how it happened…. \n“This tale is undoubtedly true. And WE have come to tell it….” \nBased on real events\, the critically acclaimed Bag of Beard Theatre brings you the unheard and undead tale of ‘The Highgate Vampire’. A new dark comedy that asks you to imagine\, among other things\, what if The Mighty Boosh had performed the Woman in Black? \nA horrifying new play\, an ink-dark comedy and very possibly the most shocking true story you haven’t heard. Yet. \nIt is time for the lecture to begin. Always Beware the Highgate Vampire…. \nPart Of The Stephen Joseph Transfer – Bringing in-the-round shows from The Glitch to The Cockpit \nSupported by The Stephen Joseph Committee\, part of the ATTB (The Association of British Theatre Technicians)
