SUMMARY:Nina | Battersea Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:“I’m a seagull. No\, that’s not right. I’m an actress.”\nA series of actresses audition to play Nina in The Seagull for a charismatic\, yet sinister director. His methods are unorthodox\, annihilating\, and very effective. \nIn a debut play from celebrated director Caroline Williams\, co-directed by award-\nwinning artist Deborah Pearson\, NINA questions why so many women are drawn to\nplay an actress who has everything taken away from her by men. And why do the men\nin Chekhov’s original play keep trying to turn the girls they fancy into dead seagulls? \nIn a post #MeToo era\, NINA is a meta theatrical fever dream on coercion\, power and the quest for creative expression. \n“One of the most insightful encounters I have had in a theatre.” Theatre Voices \n“If the opportunity presents itself to see Pearson’s work you must go immediately.” The Huffington Post

SUMMARY:Room 13 | Battersea Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Some doors should stay sealed.\nIn the days following the devastating fire in Battersea Arts Centre on Friday 13 March 2015\, a team of builders uncovered a sealed chamber in the original stone structure. When they opened the chamber\, what they found was so disturbing that the renovation came to an immediate halt. \n11 years later\, the door is unsealed once again. The door to Room 13… \nCreated by experiential theatre company Immersive Octopus\, this spine-chilling production blurs the lines between local history and imagined unreality\, inviting groups into Room 13 for a theatrical experience that will shock\, thrill and leave you breathless. With a combination of live performers\, special effects and immersive design offering jump scares aplenty – Halloween at BAC has never been more terrifying. \nDirected by Tom Maller\, the multi award-winning director behind immersive productions Peaky Blinders: The Rise\, Doctor Who: Time Fracture\, The Paddington Bear Experience and Secret Cinema productions of Casino Royale\, Blade Runner and Romeo + Juliet. \n  \nFor exact showtimes\, check their website HERE

SUMMARY:WITH EACH LOOK | Lower Slopes
DESCRIPTION:Lower Slopes launches with pop-up exhibition in Islington while renovations continue at its permanent home in Highgate. \n\nLower Slopes’ opening exhibition serves as an introduction and an invitation. Bringing together many of the artists we’ll be presenting in our upcoming programme\, it is a statement of intent and a proposition to the viewer: look again for a deeper encounter. \nWhile impactful at first glance\, the works on display do not reveal themselves fully. They reward further attention: a closer look\, a shift in perspective\, a peek inside. \nAs we move through the exhibition\, our gaze is unsettled. At times we assume the role of voyeur\, while the subjects are distracted or have their backs turned; at others\, we feel stared down\, as if the works are watching us. \n\n\nEXHIBITION INFORMATION\nVenue: 6 Charlton Place\, Islington\, London N1 8AJ\n\nExhibition: 23 October – 1 November 2026\n\nOpening Hours: Wednesday-Sunday: 11am-5pm\n(Closed Monday and Tuesday)

SUMMARY:The Abbey Art Centre as Postwar Refuge\, 1946–56
DESCRIPTION:Ben Uri is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition\, The Abbey Art Centre as Postwar Refuge\, 1946–56\, marking the simultaneous publication of The Abbey Art Centre in postwar London 1946–1956\, eds.\, Jane Eckette\, Ian McLean and Sheridan Palmer (Routledge)\, this autumn. \nThe exhibition unfolds the remarkable story of the Abbey Art Centre\, a cosmopolitan art colony established at New Barnet in 1946 by charismatic artist\, gallerist and world art collector\, William Ohly (1883–1955). A crucible of creativity on London’s northern edge\, the Abbey was a postwar haven for stateless Jewish refugees\, as well as artists from Australia\, Britain and continental Europe. Ohly’s openness to outsiders extended to his dealings at the Berkeley Galleries in Mayfair\, which opened in late 1941 during the Blitz and where Abbey artists occasionally exhibited\, as well as Commonwealth artists and artists from Ohly’s own world art collection. The Abbey was an important seeding bed for cross-cultural and transnational modernism that proved pivotal to the careers of many artists\, as they navigated the seismic political and cultural shifts taking place in the postwar and postcolonial artistic landscape in Britain and beyond. \nFeaturing paintings\, sculpture\, drawings\, monotypes\, lithographs\, puppets and related photographs\, books and archival materials\, the exhibition includes artworks by Abbey residents Scottish painter Alan Davie\, English sculptor Peter King\, English painter Lilian Colbourn\, German émigré painters and printmakers Marcel Frishman\, Margret Kroch-Frishman and William Ohly\, Austrians Helen Grünwald and Angela Varga\, sculptors Inge King and Gudrun Krüger\, pioneering German animator Lotte Reiniger\, Ukrainian painter Stacha Halpern\, Australian constructivist Robert Klippel and painters James Cant and Mary Webb. Narrative sub-themes include the impact of African and Indigenous Australian art on emerging artists and socially conscious painter-printmakers working in London’s East End. The exhibition also features a small number of artists associated with the Berkeley Galleries including Nigerian modernist Ben Enwonwu\, German sculptor Fred Kormis and Prussian-born graphic artist Katerina Wilczynski\, as well as related photographs\, books and archival materials. \nA book launch and a related series of events will accompany the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Immo Klink: Victoria’s Trees
DESCRIPTION:As part of PhotoMonth 2026\, award-winning artist Immo Klink presents Victoria’s Trees\, a photographic series of nocturnal trees placed in dialogue with the highs and lows of urban routines\, from corporate life to dark kitchens. \nThe exhibition started as a personal project around solace found in nature and with capturing the bare branches that shape London’s parks during the winter months. Combined with urban scenes taken while working as a delivery rider\, Victoria’s Trees grew into a wider reflection on the precarity of city life\, powerlessness and inequality driven by AI and climate change. \nForegrounding the positive effects of access to nature\, presented at an urban winery situated next to Victoria Park where the project originated\, the exhibition also represents an extension of the artist’s political work. Klink has documented causes ranging from climate action to civil liberties\, most recently campaigning with the Citizens Arrest Network to bring water and fossil fuel CEOs to justice. \nWhile the pressures on society and the need for activism increase\, political art is a particularly hard sell. Immo Klink responds with a crowdfunding campaign that mirrors the ethos of Victoria’s Trees by offering fine art prints of trees while raising awareness and support for his practice. \nOpen Times: Thursday 4-8pm\, Friday 4-9pm\, Saturday 12-4pm\, Sunday 12-4pm or by appointment

SUMMARY:Bury Me Before You Marry Me

SUMMARY:Under the Covers: Andrew Davies (In person) | The London Library
DESCRIPTION:Bibliotherapist Ella Berthoud brings her illuminating Under the Covers series of talks back to The London Library\, with the undisputed maestro of literary adaptation\, the mighty Andrew Davies. \nOver his incredibly illustrious career\, Andrew Davies has written his way into British cultural history\, adapting classic literature into classic works for the screen\, from Pride and Prejudice to House of Cards\, Bleak House to Bridget Jones. Now\, in his latest work\, he turns his razor-sharp pen on himself. An Unsuitable Boy is a memoir that weaves together wit\, irreverence and vulnerability to reflect on a life of writing\, loving\, adapting\, collaborating and surviving. From post-war Cardiff to the BBC boardroom\, from Broadway flops to French farmhouses with Robert Altman\, this is the story of what happens behind the scripts. \nIn conversation with Ella Berthoud\, on the biblio-couch\, he’ll discuss the memoir\, the life\, the scripts\, and the books that have shaped and inspired him\, before receiving his bibliotherapeutic analysis and prescription. \nAndrew Davies is a multi-award-winning screenwriter\, novelist and former academic. He is best known for his adaptations of Pride and Prejudice\, Middlemarch\, War and Peace\, Bleak House\, House of Cards and Bridget Jones’s Diary. His original work includes A Very Peculiar Practice\, Game On and Filthy Rich. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a BAFTA and Emmy winner. His memoir An Unsuitable Boy: A Life in Scripts is published in September 2026. \nElla Berthoud is a bibliotherapist\, artist and co-author of The Novel Cure: An A-Z of Literary Remedies. SUMMARY:How to Be Feral: Movement Practices to Re-Wild Your Body with Claire Loussouarn
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a four-session online course exploring the feral intelligence of the body: how it listens\, questions\, adapts\, resists habit\, and remembers what modern life teaches us to forget. \n‘How to Be Feral: Movement Practices to Re-Wild Your Body’ invites you to explore unfamiliar ways of moving that unsettle what we think we know about our bodies. Drawing from Claire Loussouarn’s book How to Be Feral\, we’ll practise trusting instinct before understanding\, and learning from the more-than-human world.  \nAcross four fortnightly sessions\, we’ll use movement as a mode of thinking and knowing\, alongside simple forms of movement mapping\, to explore how movement can open different perspectives\, train attention\, and reconnect us to parts of ourselves that have been quietened by social and cultural conditioning. Together we’ll approach our everyday environments as something to be received\, listened to and moved with. \nLed by movement artist Dr Claire Loussouarn and hosted by IMT Gallery\, the course offers a reflective and practical space for artists\, performers\, writers\, researchers\, educators\, somatic practitioners\, ecologists\, and anyone curious about how the body can think\, sense and know. \n🌿 No movement experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to explore. \nThe course begins 4 October 2026. \nFollow the link below for full details\, and to book.

SUMMARY:IN FOCUS: Jeremy Hunter and Seema
DESCRIPTION:In this edition of IN FOCUS\, Photojournalism Hub brings together two photographers exploring very different perspectives on culture\, identity and belonging. Jeremy Hunter draws on decades of international reporting to document rituals\, traditions and societies\, including his extensive work in North Korea. Seema Khalique explores memory\, migration and identity through photography\, moving image and personal histories\, giving visibility to stories that have helped shape multicultural Britain. \nJeremy Hunter is a UNESCO award-winning British investigative photojournalist\, television producer\, writer and broadcaster whose career has taken him across more than 70 countries and five continents.\nBeginning his career in advertising and television\, Jeremy subsequently moved into broadcast journalism\, reporting from politically sensitive and historically significant locations\, including Lebanon during the civil war\, India following the assassination of Indira Gandhi\, and Portugal during its transition to democracy. He later worked with major British broadcasters\, including the BBC and Granada Television. \nHis photography has focused particularly on festivals\, rituals\, religious traditions and culturally distinctive communities. His work has received UNESCO/HPA recognition\, including a Documentary Award in 2011 for his work in Nagaland\, alongside awards for his photography from the Sunday Telegraph\, Daily Telegraph and BBC News.\nJeremy is also known for his extensive photographic work in North Korea\, where he documented the country’s monumental Arirang performance\, propaganda and aspects of everyday life. His illustrated presentation\, North Korea Exposed – Daily Life in the Hermit Kingdom\, has been delivered internationally to audiences at cultural institutions\, universities and venues including the Palace of Westminster\, UNESCO\, NATO and the Royal Geographical Society. \nHis books include Sacred Festivals\, published in English\, French and German\, and his photographs have appeared in publications including The Sunday Times\, The Guardian\, GEO\, Stern and Condé Nast Traveller. His work has been exhibited internationally\, including at Paris Photo and the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.\nDrawing on decades of first-hand reporting and photographic documentation\, Jeremy uses visual storytelling to explore cultural identity\, religion\, politics\, propaganda and the ways societies represent themselves. \nSeema Khalique is a photography and moving-image artist\, curator and producer whose practice explores memory\, identity and personal history through documentary and portraiture. Her socially engaged practice centres around marginalised communities\, using creative practices to give voice to their stories and develop new forms of community engagement. \nKhalique curated About Then\, a group exhibition for the Stephen Lawrence Gallery which was reviewed by the British Journal of Photography. She was also curator for Migration Quest\, an immersive and interactive art exhibition at the Kobi Nazrul Centre. Khalique is Artist and curator of Londoni Memoirs which exhibited at Four Corner.\nKhalique is currently exhibiting at Brighton Photo Fringe 2026. She is a Photoworks Photography Champion for Medway and a Board Member at Four Corners. \nLondoni Memoirs is a collection of portraits\, curated ephemera\, artifacts\, heirlooms and video-interviews of 12 Bangladeshi migrants from 1950s-70s\, documenting their exodus from genocide during the 1971 liberation war and watching their motherland’s independence from afar while making UK their home. The project grew from Seema’s own search for a family history that had largely remained undocumented\, especially of her late father’s early life in the UK. He arrived in Britain in 1956\, followed by her mother in 1973 after the Bangladesh Liberation War\, both in search of a better life. At the heart of Londoni Memoirs is the experience of a generation caught between two defining moments: escaping genocide during the Bangladesh Liberation War and establishing a new life in an unfamiliar foreign country. The project considers how these experiences helped shape not only British Bangladeshi identity\, but also the country as a whole through the generations born in Britain afterwards.\nLondoni Memoirs seeks to honour a generation whose contribution was pivotal in the development of the multicultural society that exists in the UK today.

SUMMARY:Rostro x Eminem | The Cockpit Theatre
DESCRIPTION:When classical music meets hip-hop.Rostro x Eminem is a solo performance piece — part concert\, part play — that navigates the collision between two worlds: the universe of classical music and the raw\, rebellious energy of hip-hop. \nAt its centre is Olivier\, a young man raised under the weight of his father’s dream — that he become a great cellist in the image of Mstislav Rostropovich. But Olivier hears something else calling him. \nThrough live music and storytelling\, the show traces his coming of age — the pull between inheritance and rebellion\, between who we are told to be and who we choose to become — building towards a decisive event that forces him to finally become the author of his own story. The cello is present throughout: sometimes the instrument his father demands he master\, sometimes reimagined as a weapon of his own rebellion\, put at the service of hip-hop. \nWritten\, directed and performed by Olivier van den Hende \nRunning time: 60 minutes\, no interval\nAge guidance: 14+ (strong language)\nLanguage: English \nAbout the artist\nOlivier van den Hende is a Franco-American actor\, director\, writer and classically trained cellist based in London. He trained at RADA. Screen credits include recurring roles on France Télévisions (Un si grand soleil\, L’Or Bleu) and the Cannes Official Selection film 13 jours\, 13 nuits (Pathé). He is co-founder of Le Garage\, a small theatre in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. Rostro x Eminem is his second solo show\, following L’Instinct de Mort by Jacques Mesrine (Avignon Off 2024 and La Comédie Saint-Michel\, Paris).

SUMMARY:Dolly’s Clinic | Coningsby Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Presented off-site by Mandy Zhang Art and guest curated by Joséphine May Bailey\, Dolly’s Clinic places Annie Trevorah’s enquiry into aesthetics\, bodily modification and the politics of appearance in context of medieval bestiaries and surrealist imaginations. \nReferencing the language and rituals of the contemporary beauty industry\, Trevorah introduces a meticulously realised aesthetics clinic for animals named after the first cloned mammal. A cast of six matte aluminium sculptures\, each enhanced with organic elements\, model a range of signature procedures\, complete with consultant’s notes and recovery plans. An interactive AR visualisation by multimedia artist Dr Blanca Regina invites viewers to join an exfoliated poodle’s celebration of its smooth new body. \nBeneath a playful and humorous surface\, the exhibition raises fundamental questions about humanity’s relationship with other species. With Dolly’s Clinic Annie Trevorah challenges the assumption that humans alone possess the authority to determine how other living beings should look\, function and evolve\, while exploring the contradictions between personal freedoms and external pressures. \nOpening Times \nWed\, 4th\, Thurs 5th\, Fri 6th\, / 10 am – 6pm / Sat\, 7th 11am – 6pm \nTues 10th\, Wed 12th\, Fri 13th / 10 am – 6pm / Sat\, 14th 11am – 6pm \nGallery closed / Sun\, 8th Nov & Mon\, 9th Nov

SUMMARY:Brother Tree Sound: Folk Tales\, Landscapes and a Life Story
DESCRIPTION:For this 30th edition of the Made in Prague festival\, Brother Tree Sound will play 3 string quartets with fascinating connections to Prague. They will be playing a quartet bursting with folk melodies\, dances and life – quartet no 1 ‘From my Life’ by the 19th century Czech composer Bedřich Smetana\, who was considered by many to be the father of Czech classical music and whose music is inspired by the history\, legends and landscape of his native Bohemia. This autobiographical quartet tells the composer’s life story in four parts\, from the carefree early days of his youth\, through midlife love and heartache\, to his later years\, when the music depicts the anguish he felt with the onset of his deafness. \nElizabeth Maconchy was born in England to Irish parents. She studied with Ralph Vaughan Williams. Feeling drawn to the music of Eastern Europe and composers such as Janáček\, she travelled to Prague to study with Czech composer Karel Boleslav Jirák. Her quartet no. 3 is short but intensely felt\, with discussion between the four players around a central theme that dominates with intent. \nKateřina Horká is an emerging Czech composer. Her String Quartet no. 2 ‘Icelandic Landscape’ was the winning piece of the 7th Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition. Kateřina’s music draws inspiration from many styles and genres. This quartet is evocative and spacious\, depicting the vast open spaces of Iceland. \nProgramme:\nBedřich Smetana String Quartet No. 1 in E minor ‘From My Life / Z mého života\nElizabeth Maconchy String Quartet No. 3\, op. 15\nKateřina Horká String Quartet No. 2 ‘Icelandic Landscape’ \nBrother Tree Sound\, string quartet \nHire String Quartets and String Ensembles in London.
