SUMMARY:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke\, and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography
DESCRIPTION:Pixels and Poetics: Sudek\, Funke and the Influence of New Technologies on the Development of Photography connects the world of interwar analogue photography with the visual aesthetics of today’s digital age. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to trace how the image has transformed over two centuries—from tangible traces of light to synthetic visual worlds created by artificial intelligence. \nThe exhibition presents iconic works by Josef Sudek and Jaromír Funke\, whose photographs demonstrate how light\, composition\, and atmosphere can transform reality into poetic or constructive visual worlds. These classical approaches are complemented by historical photomontages\, double exposures\, and analogue manipulations\, showing how deeply the desire to reshape the image is established in the tradition of photography. The historical works in the exhibition are drawn from the PPF Art collection\, which plays a key role in preserving and presenting Czech photographic heritage. \nThe contemporary section of the exhibition develops this dialogue through artists working with AI and generative technologies. In her work Your Addiction Is the Message\, Barbora Trnková reveals the mechanisms of visual dependency in the digital environment and the role of technologies in shaping our perceptions. Lenka Hamošová\, in the project Troubling GAN and the series Strange Attractions\, explores both the aesthetics and limitations of neural networks\, showing how algorithms create and reproduce stereotypes or visual hallucinations. A collaborative work by Trnková and Javůrek\, Generation of Princesses\, uses generative models to critically reflect on pop-culture ideals of femininity and their digital reconstruction. The exhibition offers a visually compelling and accessible perspective on how our understanding of the image\, reality\, and the things we are willing to believe when we look\, is changing. \nOrganised by the Czech Centre with the kind support of the PPF Foundation. \nEXHIBITION OPENING\nTuesday 20 January 2026\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\nFree entry\, REGISTER HERE: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pixels-and-poetics-private-view-tickets-1977922480383?aff=oddtdtcreator\nEXHIBITION DATES: 20 January – 13 March 2026\nVENUES & OPENING TIMES \nVitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4QY\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nBouda Gallery\, Czech Centre London\n132 Palace Gardens Terrace\, Kensington\, London\, W8 4RT\nOpening hours: Tue – Fri 10am – 5pm \nPublic space outside of the Czech Embassy\, London\n26 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London\, W8 4RT\nAccessible 24/7

SUMMARY:Noisy World - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:With simple line drawings of ordinary objects and mundane moments\, Perfect outlines an alternative vision to the competitive pursuit of perfectionism in modern society. \nAs though retrieved from a surreal flower press\, people\, plants and vessels are presented flattened and slightly out of shape; multiple minimalist selves cross architectural and art historical references; impressions of unrelated scenes captured on paper. \nWith each drawing a gentle act of rebellion\, against colour theory and perspective\, against hierarchies between foreground and background\, humans and things\, Noisy World celebrates the humane and humorous aspects of everyday life. \nGallery opening hours:\nSaturdays 10 am – 4 pm\nSundays 12 noon – 4 pm

SUMMARY:Empowering Her
DESCRIPTION:Empowering Her is an unapologetic body of work that confronts who is seen\, who is celebrated\, and who has historically been left in the shadows. The opening portrait of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe\, the British-Iranian campaigner and former political prisoner\, sets a clear tone rooted in visibility\, dignity\, and presence. \nThrough a series of large-scale\, finely rendered portraits\, Empowering Her reclaims portraiture as a space in which women’s stories are seen and their achievements honoured with the respect they merit. The work explores recognition\, representation\, and power\, questioning whose stories are recorded\, whose leadership is acknowledged\, and whose experiences are overlooked. \nSpeaking about the project\, Caroline said: “For centuries\, portraiture has reinforced who matters. Empowering Her reclaims that space as one of recognition\, not perfection\, but presence\, and these portraits are about honesty\, dignity\, and being fully seen.” \nThe women portrayed in Empowering Her span public life\, culture\, science\, sport\, and activism and include: \n\nNazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe\, campaigner and former political prisoner\nLieutenant General Dame Sharon Nesmith\, Deputy Chief of the General Staff\, British Army\nSally Phillips\, actor and comedian\nEmma Barnett\, broadcaster and journalist\nLady Phyll\, LGBTQ+ activist and co-founder of UK Black Pride\nDame Maggie Aderin-Pocock\, space scientist and science communicator\nDaryl Fielding\, advertising leader behind Dove’s Real Beauty campaign and founding member of Mad Women\nGeorgia Harrison\, campaigner for women’s safety and digital accountability\nZoe Stratford\, England Rugby World Cup-winning captain and advocate for women in sport\n\nEmpowering Her is in support of UN Women UK\, with proceeds contributing to programmes supporting all women and girls in the UK and around the world. \nEmpowering Her is an evolving body of work. \nAlongside the exhibition\, a series of portrait-led workshops will take place at the gallery\, with further workshops planned in community and corporate settings\, and ambitions for future exhibitions and touring.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Through Her Eyes
DESCRIPTION:Anna Kiparis\, Tatiana Fetisova\, and Olga Bonitas in the exhibition Through Her Eyes \nThe Kult Talk hosts the exhibition Through Her Eyes\, featuring three artists whose work is informed by lived experience and expressed in individual visual languages. The exhibition explores the translation of lived experience: motherhood\, play\, and the search for inner harmony – into visual language\, color\, and symbolization in a nuanced exploration of the self in the present day. \nAnna Kiparis‘ painting style can be described as a system of play. In her works like The Piece\, Panopticon and Carousel\, and Carousel\, Anna Kiparis creates her own framework using elements of games like chess\, cards\, and circular movements. The cow is an element that can be found in all of Anna Kiparis’ works\, both as an element that participates in the game and as an element that observes the game. \nTatiana Fetisova‘s style can be described as “balloonized realism.” In her works like Balancing and Chasing the Air\, Tatiana combines elements of figurative painting with elements of inflated objects that serve both as metaphors for vision and emotion. \nWorks by Olga Bonitas are included in the exhibition from her series Watching Them Grow in watercolour: Tree Adventure\, High up above and Not Just a Tree. Informed by the lived experience of motherhood\, Bonitas’s work addresses the often-unnecessary tension between creative practice and motherhood. The works are created in a fragile but direct manner to prioritize the lived experience of motherhood from the margins to the center of creative practice. \nThe artists’ works can be described as three perspectives that connect with each other in terms of perception and experience. The artists’ works in this exhibition encourage viewers to look at the ways in which personal realities are constructed\, negotiated\, and re-imagined in contemporary art. \nMore information: http://thekulttalk.com/project/Through-Her-Eyes

SUMMARY:JEFF ROBB – CONJECTURES AND REFUTATIONS - Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Conjectures and Refutations by Jeff Robb at Cris Contini Contemporary London presents two innovative series: the titular body of work and Human Collage. The first series is inspired by Karl Popper and explores the idea of truth as provisional and constantly shifting. Through concentric circles and lenticular elements\, the works change according to the viewer’s position. Human Collage blends abstraction and realism using fragmented figures. The series reflects on the complexity of identity and human experience. \nJeff Robb – Conjectures and Refutations \n05 March – 11 April 2026 \nOpening Hours: \nTue-Sat: 10.00AM-6.00PM \nSun-Mon: by appointment only \nFree Entry

SUMMARY:Katya Granova - All Our Yesterdays - Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:All Our Yesterdays is a solo presentation of recent paintings by Katya Granova curated by Róisín McQueirns. \nGranova’s paintings are informed by found photographs sourced from family albums\, government archives and flea markets. She responds with colour and brushwork to explore the tension between presence and absence on large-scale canvasses. \n“New yesterdays appear every day. Old yesterdays are stored in the dusty depot of unstable human memory\, guarded by forces that can alter them. It sounds like a repressive detention. It sounds like a bright new future. Yesterdays never return from the depot.” \nBorn in the Soviet Union shortly before its collapse\, Granova’s formative years were defined by a constant shift in historical perspectives and contradictions in remembered realities. The subjects in her paintings remain anonymous\, distinction between individual figures\, foreground and background\, deliberately blurred by the artist’s intervention. \nWith the title alluding to both Shakespeare’s Macbeth and an episode of Star Trek\, All Our Yesterdays challenges notions of linear time and the subjectivity of history.

It features work that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speaks to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. \nThe exhibition is a place where we might live. Often\, when visitors come to this gallery\, they ask her if she lives here. They ask\, “Do you live here?” They ask\, “Are these your cats?” I lived here once too. I don’t anymore. This exhibition is about living somewhere. Perhaps it is about reaching for this thing. \nIn the words of Guest-Host-Guest: ‘Here\, the house is a metaphor for assumed belonging. A place we are expected to be ‘resolved’ or ‘satisfied’\, even when displacement\, precarity\, and contested ownership sit just beneath the surface.’ \nThe exhibition is a hand with a mirror in front of it. The mirror reflects some flowers or a field. Behind the hand is a sky. In front of the sky is a blank\, featureless wall. All these things at various distances from the camera. A cat; a home; a gallery; a municipality listed on a birth certificate (since burned). The house. \nCurating at Home: Making Personal Spaces of Creative Agency\nOnline Course with Dr Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson \nApril – May 2026 \nOrganised to coincide with The House\, join us for a four-session online course exploring how we live with art\, and how the art we live with shapes the way we live. \nHeld fortnightly\, Curating at Home: Making Personal Spaces of Creative Agency invites you to look closely at the rooms\, objects\, and artworks that surround you. Drawing on art practices\, histories\, philosophy\, exhibition-making\, and practices of everyday attention\, we will explore how meaning is shaped through arrangement\, context\, and the lived rhythms of domestic space. \nLed by artist\, educator\, and curator Dr Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson and hosted by IMT Gallery\, each session brings together case studies\, creative exercises\, and guided activities designed to help you think with and through your own environment. \nPlaces are limited — the course begins 12 April. Click here for full course detail \n_ \nPictured: Anna Sebastian\, detail of ‘Esalon’ (2024)\, oil on canvas\, 100 x 100cm \nSuzanne Treister is represented by Annely Juda Fine Art\, London\, P.P.O.W\, New York and The Ryder\, Madrid.

SUMMARY:In-Between Spaces - Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In-between Spaces brings together works by Turkish painter Muslum Teke\, whose practice centres on the human face as a site of psychological depth and inner reflection. \nMoving between figuration and abstraction\, Teke approaches the face not merely as a physical form\, but as a vessel of emotion\, memory\, and unspoken experience. His layered surfaces and expressive brushwork reveal the fragile boundary between visibility and feeling; between presence and absence. \nWorking primarily with oil and acrylic\, Teke embraces the materiality of paint as a trace of thought and sensation. Rather than offering fixed narratives\, his works open a contemplative space\, inviting viewers into a silent dialogue with the human condition.

SUMMARY:International Women's Day: Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate International Women’s Day 2026\, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is delighted to partner with photographer Jackie King to display a collection of never-before-seen photographs showing some of the 19 female Chelsea Pensioners who currently call the Royal Hospital their home. \nWomen were first admitted to the Royal Hospital Chelsea as Chelsea Pensioners in 2009\, a full three hundred and seventeen years after the Hospital first opened its doors to Army veterans. Since 2009\, many women have chosen to become part of the Royal Hospital community\, donning their scarlet coats with pride. Yet today – seventeen years later – many people are still surprised when they meet a female Chelsea Pensioner. \nThrough her photos\, Jackie King highlights the character of some of the female Chelsea Pensioners currently resident with us. Showcasing the individualism of each sitter\, she shares their unique stories visually\, while representing how embedded in the Royal Hospital community female Pensioners are today.

SUMMARY:Sail to Hope – Solo Exhibition by Esra Kizir Gokcen
DESCRIPTION:With Sail to Hope\, Esra Kizir Gokcen presents her response to the far-reaching effects of globalisation. Born from human empathy rather than political drive\, her work questions the hierarchies that place humans above other life forms. \nIn paintings inspired by Eastern miniature art\, natural forces intermingle with crowds of abstract shapes and figures to represent the movements of people and cultures between past and present. Collaged paper boats folded from world maps symbolise the shared humanity of precarious passages too often reduced to numbers in news headlines. \nThe ubiquitous origami vessels also feature in a large-scale multi-media installation at the heart of the exhibition. These were co-created in workshops with diverse community groups. Participants christened each boat with a personal message of hope\, inspiring the exhibition title. A soundscape by Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Tim Garland complements this collaborative work. \nThe artists have worked together since 2023\, when Garland commissioned Gokcen to create paintings for his orchestral work. Visuals for the current Moment of Departure tour constitute part of this exhibition. Tim Garland will play a selection from his current CD in several intimate concerts on both Saturdays. The afternoon performances will be followed by a Q&A with both artists who believe art can communicate positive messages and elevate the resilience of the human spirit. A selection of prints and posters are available in support of War Child. \nThe exhibition open times are as follows: \nMonday-Friday 12noon – 7pm\nSaturday 11am – 2pm\nSunday 12non – 4pm \nClick on the booking links for the music and art afternoons on 1 March and 8 March

SUMMARY:Gothic Opera presents: Die Rheinnixen
DESCRIPTION:Unconventional opera company Gothic Opera returns to Battersea Arts Centre this Halloween\, this time with the UK staged premiere of Die Rheinnixen (The Nixies of the Rhine)\, an unjustly neglected\, Romantic work by Jacques Offenbach. \nDie Rheinnixen\, which is Offenbach’s first take on grand opera\, encompasses the growing nationalism of its time\, as well as the genre’s fascination with the supernatural. Gothic Opera is delighted to be staging this horror story for the first time in the UK. \nIn the capable hands of the award-winning international stage director Max Hoehn\, the evocative crumbling architecture of Battersea Arts Centre’s Grand Hall will be transformed into the time of the Weimar Republic\, a period of nationalism and unease. \nIn a bold production that will speak to our current times\, Gothic Opera will be joined by exciting conductor Hannah von Wiehler\, who has a very busy career across Europe. Leon Haxby\, the young composer whose previous work for the company was praised in Opera magazine for its “haunting magic” and “compassionate insight\,” has created a new chamber orchestration of the opera for seven instruments. A cast of talented singers will bring the characters and story to life. \nDie Rheinnixen performance details:\n30th October\, 7.30pm\n31st October\, 7.30pm\n1st November\, 7.30pm\n2nd November\, 5.00pm \nSung in German with English surtitles.

SUMMARY:The Poetry Brothel: Dead City
DESCRIPTION:Immersive spoken word\n\n\n\nThe city trembles\, its pulse muted beneath glass towers and sanctioned silence. The streets once thrummed with unruly song\, but now grassroots gatherings fade like chalk washed from stone. Yet in the cracks\, something stirs. A whisper. A spark refusing to die. \nThe ballroom doors creak open\, and the air shivers with electricity. Here\, the forgotten rise\, not as ghosts\, but as flames. \nInspired by the forbidden Bal des Folles\, where those caged in asylums were once paraded for the amusement of the Parisian elite\, we reclaim the spectacle: not as cruelty\, but as revolt. Masks become weapons. Costumes become truth. Laughter becomes riot. \nIn this dream of disobedience\, we speak in poetry\, prophecy\, and wildfire. \nThis is a night where performance becomes uprising\, where poetry slips between lips like a secret code\, where intimacy becomes a weapon against erasure. The past and present rebels dance together\, shaking the dust from a city that forgot how to feel.

SUMMARY:Fishwives
DESCRIPTION:Step right up for FISHWIVES—a riotous comedy cabaret that’s smutty\, feminist\, historical\, and dare we say\, hysterical. \nIf Chaucer had a potty-mouthed sister with a vendetta against the patriarchy\, this is the show she’d have made. Written in verse with the gleeful irreverence of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes\, Fishwives catapults the forgotten heroines of history onto centre stage—louder\, looser\, and far less ladylike than you remember. \nPenned and performed by seasoned comedy poet Abi Unwin-Smith (RCSSD)\, with a decade of live mischief under her belt\, this anarchic hour fuses poetry\, storytelling and movement with the high-energy chaos of vaudeville. Expect stripping suffragettes\, scandalous monarchs and the odd persecuted pudenda—no petticoat will be left unruffled. \nAfter a decade on the UK and Australian comedy and poetry circuits\, Fishwives now bursts forth as a full-throttle show: a bawdy mash-up of brains\, bosoms\, and belly laughs. In an age when women’s rights still hang precariously in the balance\, this show wields laughter as both weapon and salve. \nSo gird your loins\, ladies and gents. These lusty bawds have stories to tell—and it’s about bloody time we listened.

SUMMARY:Holy Shift!
DESCRIPTION:A comedic\, time-travelling journey back to the gloriously chaotic 90s\, Holy Shift follows a mum who finds herself raising a teen whose idea of rebellion is… becoming a saint. Sin\, she understands. She’s been there\, done that. But a holy uprising? This she did not see coming. Desperate to decode her daughter’s sudden devotion\, she cracks open her teenage diary-an overstuffed time capsule of heartbreak\, hope\, questionable crushes\, and the kind of melodrama only the 90s could produce. As she reads\, she blasts the Madonna anthems that once saved her teenage soul-songs preaching empowerment\, reinvention\, and the attempt to survive adolescence by crafting a cone bra and trying to Vogue without spraining a wrist! \nWhat starts as a bewildered quest to understand her daughter becomes an unexpected journey back to the messy\, electric girl she used to be-and the parts of her she thought she’d grown out of! \nAbout Kym Nelson\n(linktr.ee/KymNelsonComedy @ instagram: kym_comedyplayground) \nKym’s comedy is high-energy\, blending storytelling\, character work\, and observational absurdity. Trained by legendary French master clown Philippe Gaulier\, her debut solo show\, Namaste Blisters\, played the Edinburgh Festival and Camden Fringe\, and she has performed alongside some of Europe’s most celebrated comedians. One theatre critic called her “a great and relatable storyteller.” \n
