SUMMARY:London COPPP28 - People\, Planet\, Pint: Sustainability Meetup
DESCRIPTION:COPPP28\n\n\n\nPeople\, Planet\, Pint has always been about bringing people together to share what is going on in the local community\, and ultimately\, give hope that things are indeed happening. \n\n\n\nOn the 7th of December this year\, we are planning a unified alternative COP28 event\, with PPP’s all over the country at the same time\, to give those who may be tired of the relentless news cycle somewhere to come and feel heard\, and learn about local action they can get involved with. \n\n\n\nYou’re invited to join us at the “Congress of the People Planet Pints”\, or “COPPP28”.\n\n\n\nIf you’re curious about climate and want to learn more about what you can do individually or through your work\, join others at COPPP28 to find out more about what’s happening in your area and how you can get involved. \n\n\n\nNo agenda\, workshops\, or webinars. Just chat over some drinks. \n\n\n\nStarted in Glasgow during COP26\, this relaxed event brings together those with a shared passion for sustainability in all its forms. \n\n\n\nLet’s see where the conversation\, and night\, take us! \n\n\n\nFind others who can collaborate and help you on your journey and have fun doing so! \n\n\n\nYour Hosts\n\n\n\nAlexander Lewis-Jones the founder of OtherWay\, provides Climate data for every vehicle on every journey. \n\n\n\nE ddie is the co-founder of C-Free\, a Carbon Calculation and Footprinting company. \n\n\n\nVenue: Good Company\n\n\n\nSocial enterprises\, Change Please and Toast Ale\, launch Good Company – a café and brewery taproom experience\, helping fight food waste and homelessness. \n\n\n\nChange Please\, the social enterprise which aims to end homelessness through great-tasting coffee\, and Toast Ale\, the sustainable brewer that uses surplus bakery bread in their beers\, are opening the doors to their first joint venture. \n\n\n\nGood Company is a café and taproom experience at 17-19 Triton Street. Situated in the heart of British Land’s Regent’s Place campus\, Good Company customers can swing by for a coffee or beer (or settle in and enjoy both). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne Nine Nine – Official COPPP Media Partner\n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to welcome One Nine Nine as the official media partner for Small99’s COPPP28 events. \n\n\n\nOne Nine Nine provides digital marketing\, design\, PR and comms support to clients in the sustainability space – helping businesses that do good in the world to reap the commercial benefits. SUMMARY:Flux Exhibition 10th Edition
DESCRIPTION:FLUX Exhibition is proud to present its 10th edition\, a 4-day art extravaganza showcasing the work of 80 contemporary artists\, held at 178 St James – Piccadilly in London. Curated by Lisa Gray\, the founder of FLUX\, with her open and unbiased approach to contemporary art this prodigious event will feature the most talented\, the most creative dynamic painters\, sculptors\, and performance artists. Collectors\, curators and art lovers can gather to discover the unexpected\, that unique conversation piece and to be inspired by an exhibition that represents an opportunity to discover the very best emerging and established artists\, showcasing international talent in a collaborative\, inclusive show right in the heart of London. \n\n\n\nLisa Gray has an outstanding ability to select and curate a diverse group of gifted artists on the path to being the big names of tomorrow\, creating exhibitions that naturally flow covering many diversities of contemporary art. Flux has established itself as the platform for contemporary artists to be discovered and to be part of an exceptional\, inspirational art event. “FLUX Exhibition is a must-attend event for contemporary art lovers\, where you can discover some of the most exciting and innovative artists in the world\,” says founder Lisa Gray. “Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of contemporary art.” With live music\, hosted by fetish cabaret star Marnie Scarlet\, and performances by drag legend Pretentious Dross\, the FLUX opening night is going to be one to remember! \n\n\n\nFeatured artists include Gary Nicholls a technical artist with a camera rather than a photographer. Inspired by the way Caravaggio and Vermeer were able to focus the viewer on the subject of their art by the use of light\, Nicholls creates a series of themed images printed on Chromaluxe\, each to usher the viewer into the sacred arena that is his imagination\, challenging them to fantasize about a magical space that is the theatre of art. \n\n\n\nKohlben Vodden is an Australian-born self-taught artist living and working in London\, UK. His obsession with psychological concepts such as identity and aesthetics are central to his artistic practice which he defines as visual storytelling that coexists as conceptual and expressionist art. Vodden enjoys the juxtaposition of using traditional mediums such as oil paint in uncharacteristically controlled techniques to create intensely contemporary aesthetic images that could\, upon first glance\, be considered digital in origin. \n\n\n\nHis work has is recognised across the UK and internationally\, and has been included in exhibitions in Abu Dhabi\, Milan\, New York\, and London \n\n\n\nAll guests who make a purchase at FLUX Exhibition will receive a Limited-Edition hand-signed artwork worth £200 by artist Catarina Diaz\, offering an opportunity to own a unique piece of contemporary art. Diaz is a London-based artist who has become an established figure in the art world\, having received multiple awards and recognition from the President of Portugal for her exceptional talent. \n\n\n\nAs well as the exhibition Flux will be selling a range of art gifts\, accessories\, and prints – perfect for the Xmas shopping season. \n\n\n\nThe event will run from 7th to 10th Dec 2023\, and visitors can book FREE tickets on Eventbrite and the official websites http://www.fluxexhibition.com and  http://www.thefluxreview.com.Press responses to be sent to: lisa@thefluxreview.com

SUMMARY:Let's make a band! workshop with artist Sophie Chapman at IMT Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Step into the world of spontaneous creativity with artist Sophie Chapman at IMT Gallery. \n\n\n\nDuring this immersive 3-hour workshop\, Sophie will guide the group through a unique journey of mimicry\, recording\, punk sensibilities\, playful experimentation\, and artistic collaboration\, resulting in the creation of a band that exists solely for this brief but electrifying moment. \n\n\n\nThe workshop culminates in the production of a brand-new EP recorded during the session\, and each participant will receive a link to this exclusive track. But that’s not all—participants will also have the opportunity to craft the band’s logo and visual identity. \n\n\n\nJoin Sophie Chapman for an unforgettable experience celebrating the power of collaboration and the joy of making something remarkable together. No prior experience is needed! \n\n\n\nAbout Sophie Chapman: \n\n\n\nSophie Chapman\, an interdisciplinary artist and organiser originally from Newcastle and now based in London\, brings a unique perspective to the world of art and community engagement. Sophie’s creative journey is marked by a diverse range of influences\, drawing inspiration from science\, philosophy\, queer and feminist theory\, pop culture\, music\, and grassroots community organising. Her art serves as a vehicle for learning\, a process that thrives on collaboration and experimentation. Sophie’s portfolio includes a rich tapestry of experimental performances\, films\, sculptures\, drawings\, texts\, and soundscapes\, all serving as vibrant expressions of the ideas she explores. Through projects that delve into science fiction\, punk\, improvisation\, spatial justice\, movement\, and embodied knowledge\, Sophie challenges boundaries and invites us to rethink the world we inhabit. \n\n\n\nBeyond her artistic pursuits\, Sophie is an experienced educator\, facilitator\, programmer\, and access support worker\, all driven by her commitment to nurturing more supportive\, politicised\, and experimental structures for creative expression and community building. Sophie is currently developing a body of work called ‘Tiger Helix (Oblivion)’ about queer entanglements with nature amidst collective feelings of apocalypse. As well as this she received the 2023 ‘Art in the ArchiveBursary’ from the Women’s Art Library and the Feminist Review to develop a text called ‘SLUG’ about slow time. Made in collaboration with Sahjan Kooner\, the film installation ‘HONEY’ is being shown as part of ‘dankEconogy1_ALIENVillage’ at Eastside Projects Birmingham Oct-Dec 2023\, touring to Kunsthall Ghent Feb 2024\, with a chatbot version of the work available to interact with via UP Projects. \n\n\n\nSalty Measures Series: \n\n\n\nThis workshop is part of our Salty Measures series\, a series of workshops curated by Paul Stewart and Sarah Perks that plunge into the pleasures and depths of art-making. Our inaugural season showcases the talents of Hamja Ahsan\, Sophie Chapman\, and Sarah Perks. Each workshop in this series offers a unique approach to engaging with art\, whether through embodied experiences\, delightful encounters\, or shared narratives. \n\n\n\nThese experiences will involve collaborative art-making\, and each participant will depart with a keepsake from their journey\, whether it’s a self-recorded EP\, a concept for a fried chicken franchise\, or a profound meditation that unveils a non-human connection. \n\n\n\nSalty Measures is supported by Teesside University\, Centre for Culture and Creativity\, IAA funding. \n\n\n\nThe free entry places for Tower Hamlets residents have been lovingly created with support from Clarion Futures. \n\n\n\nJoin us as we embark on a journey of exploration and creativity with Sophie Chapman\, an artist dedicated to reimagining our world. No experience needed! Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a unique creative process that celebrates the beauty of making something remarkable together.

SUMMARY:Improv Character Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ho ho ho and welcome to our Playface Christmas Special workshop on character depth for improv comedy! \n\n\n\nIn this class we’re going to look at loads of different ways you can play a character. Did the audience just shout out Santa as a suggestion? In this class the one way we’re NOT going to play Santa as a big jolly old bearded man giving out presents to kids. Instead we’re going to look at techniques to give different twists and levels of depth to our characters. Breaking ourselves out of our usual go to characters and from playing the obvious stereotypes. \n\n\n\n\nWhat would a dog inspired by Santa be like?\n\n\n\nWhat does Santa Claus the grizzled police detective look like?\n\n\n\nHow do we play a sad Santa recovering from a messy divorce?\n\n\n\nRemember when Santa was bullied at school?\n\n\n\nSanta deals with the stressful reality of being pregnant\n\n\n\n\nThis is an intermediate class so you should have completed an introduction to improv course before (at any school). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Teacher\n\n\n\nCharlie Jackson is an improv comedian and clown\, teaching comedy with Playface\, Hoopla and performing with multiple teams and individually. SUMMARY:Twickenham Choral
DESCRIPTION:Brahms Requiem and Rheinberger Mass in E flat for Double Choir \n\n\n\nAcknowledged as one of the great choral works of the Romantic era\, Brahms’s German Requiem was clearly intended as a comfort to the living rather than as a requiem for the souls of the dead. This much-loved masterpiece\, with soloists Philippa Boyle and Peter Lidbetter\, is accompanied tonight by a small orchestra of eight instrumentalists along with piano to create a rich and satisfying texture\, retaining much of the original orchestration. \n\n\n\nUnder the direction of their conductor Christopher Herrick\, Twickenham Choral\, one of London’s foremost choirs\, partner the Requiem with the delicious Romantic choral music of Rheinberger’s Mass in E flat for Double Choir.

SUMMARY:LINDA SMITH & NANCY ANDREWS + RATTLE + RUSSELL WALKER
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm present their 20th birthday party with… \n\n\n\nLINDA SMITH & NANCY ANDREWSRATTLERUSSELL WALKERSaturday 9 DecemberCafe OTO\, 18-22 Ashwin St\, London\, E8 3DL7.30pm | £12 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Y1c88667d259 \n\n\n\nLINDA SMITH & NANCY ANDREWS shared a big house in Baltimore in 1983 with a continuously revolving cast of artists and musicians. It was there the like-minded artists formed their first band\, Ceramic Madonna Head\, a short-lived project which included housemates Elizabeth Downing and Peggy Bitzer. By the time the lease was up\, Linda and Peggy had decided to move to New York where they would form a new band called The Woods while Nancy and Elizabeth remained in Baltimore and formed a performance art band called Lambs Eat Ivy. \n\n\n\nWhile playing guitar in The Woods in the mid-80’s Linda purchased her first 4-track cassette recorder and embarked on a pioneering decade of solo\, DIY home recording with a series of cassettes and 7” records of smart and moody singer-songwriter bedroom pop music. This trailblazing period was recently documented on jewel-box compilation ‘Sky Girl’ and Captured Tracks’ retrospective compilation ‘Till Another Time: 1988-1996.’ During this same period Nancy pursued art\, animation and filmmaking. The friends stayed in touch but hadn’t worked on a project together in nearly thirty years. \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, Linda rediscovered in the back of a drawer some old tapes of Nancy’s songs she had recorded for her in the 90’s. In the process of digitizing the old recordings she was inspired to reach out and float the idea of a new collaborative recording project with her old friend. ‘A Passing Cloud’ (Grapefruit/Gertrude Records) is the fruit of their rekindled long-distance musical conversation. All the songs were composed incrementally by passing tracks back and forth between Maine and Maryland\, making for some beguiling pop music that draws us in with a carefully rendered intimacy.https://lindasmith2.bandcamp.com/album/a-passing-cloud \n\n\n\nRATTLE are a UK-based duo\, Rattle focus almost exclusively on drums and more drums\, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown and Theresa Wrigley\, Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using drums and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk\, minimalism and experimental rock\, through off-kilter rhythms\, patterns and counter melodies. Rattle effortlessly blend the avant-garde with irresistible melodies and hypnotic drum beats\, using rhythm and harmony to create a refreshing sound that is utterly new – a pretty rare feat these days when we’re saturated with so much music. Rattle’s immense ‘Sequence’ album came out recently through Upset The Rhythm.https://rattleon.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nRUSSELL WALKER is a 43 year old resident of Hitchin\, Hertfordshire who dislikes Piers Morgan’s son. He  writes / performs on his own as well as in various projects – his most recent releases are Soothers with Malvern Brume (Are You Before\, 2023) and I Can’t Remember as the Lloyd Pack (Digital Regress\, 2023).https://on.soundcloud.com/aACG9

SUMMARY:SIMON SPILLETT BIG BAND 'DEAR TUBBY H' ALBUM LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nPRESS INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nNEW UK JAZZ LABEL CELEBRATES \nTUBBY HAYES WITH DEBUT RELEASE \nLAUNCH GIG\, 229 LONDON W1 \nMonday December 11th \n  \nIn all its vibrant and diverse history\, British jazz has produced a number of musicians who can truly be considered iconic\, none more so than the virtuoso saxophonist\, composer\, and arranger Tubby Hayes. Hayes was arguably the first and one of very few British jazz stars to crack America. He was invited to perform and record there as a star soloist in his own right\, an honour accorded to very few British jazz instrumentalists.. \nNow\, fifty years after Hayes’s untimely death aged just 38\, a new recording has arrived which presents twelve of his big band compositions and arrangements recorded for commercial release for the very first time. \nThe Tubby Hayes Big Band first appeared in the early 1960s and performed sporadically right up until Hayes’s passing in 1973. During that time the band produced just two albums\, ‘Tubbs Tours’ and ‘100% Proof’. A consequence of this very small output is that the vast majority of Tubby’s big band repertoire was never commercially recorded. \nUntil now. \nSimon Spillett\, himself a virtuoso tenor saxophonist in the Hayes tradition\, has performed the seemingly impossible task of tracking down the lost big band music of Tubby Hayes. Fellow musicians and relatives of Hayes’s long passed contemporaries were instrumental in facilitating this search. The music has been recovered\, restored and recorded by a team of A-list British jazz stars and the album ‘Dear Tubby H’ is released in September on Mister PC Records. \nOnly Simon Spillett has the instrumental ability and specialist knowledge to make such an ambitious project as this a reality\, and it is a fitting follow up to Spillett’s definitive\, critically acclaimed biography of Hayes\, ‘The Long Shadow of the Little Giant’. \nSimon’s friend\, colleague\, and drummer Pete Cater has assumed the role of producer. Cater was so impressed with the audience response to one of the Spillett big band’s early gigs at London’s 100 Club that he decided at that moment to put his money where his mouth is\, so that this music could be recorded to the highest possible standard\, in terms of both musicianship and production\, with no compromises on standards of performance\, audio quality\, and all-round musical integrity. \nPete Cater is no stranger to big band music\, having first fronted his own band in 1983 and produced several albums as a leader. Setting up his own label is a new venture however. Several further releases are in the can or scheduled for recording in the coming months. \nMister PC Records has arrived in a big way with a hugely impressive debut release with a broad appeal way beyond the specialist jazz niche. \n  \nCONTACT DETAILS FOR INTERVIEW REQUESTS \n  \nSIMON SPILLETT (featured lead artist) 07703 556147 simonspill@aol.com \nPETE CATER (label owner/producer) 07831 419958 petecaterdrums@gmail.com
