DESCRIPTION:Steve Noble is London’s leading drummer\, a fearless and constantly inventive improviser whose super-precise\, ultra-propulsive and hyper-detailed playing has galvanised encounters with Derek Bailey\, Matthew Shipp\, Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith\, Stephen O’Malley\, Joe McPhee\, Alex Ward\, Rhodri Davies and many\, many more. \nPat Thomas studied classical piano from the age of 8 and started playing Jazz from the age of 16. He has since gone on to develop an utterly unique style – embracing improvisation\, jazz and new music. He has played with Derek Bailey in Company Week (1990/91). In the trio AND (with Noble) – with Tony Oxley’s Quartet and Celebration Orchestra\, and in Duo with Lol Coxhill. \nJohn Edwards grew up in London. He started experimenting with the bass guitar before he switched in his twenties to play double bass. He is deeply rooted in the creative free jazz and improvisation genre. Since the 80s\, he has been active as a soloist and in many groups and ensembles in Europe active and became one of the most renowned bass players. He played/plays regularly\, for example\, with Peter Brötzmann\, Joe McPhee\, Phil Minton\, Maggie Nichols\, Evan Parker\, Roscoe Mitchell\, Louis Moholo-Moholo\, Mark Sanders\, Caroline Kraabel\, John Butcher\, Pat Thomas\, Irène Schweizer\, Hans Koch\, Florian Stoffner\, Gabriele Mitelli\, and John Dikeman.

SUMMARY:Guest House: Sewing a Palm Tree Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:All are invited into the Guest House\, a shared\, temporary workspace formed through collective contribution and the relaxed palava of conversation. You don’t need to sew a palm tree if you don’t want to! \nParticipants are invited to sit together\, sew by hand\, talk\, listen\, share stories\, or simply observe. Some may choose to sew palm trees\, while others may work on repairs\, small tests\, or nothing at all. Conversation\, silence\, and informal knowledge-sharing are all part of the process\, as the work develops slowly and collectively over the session. \nThe workshop is led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nParticipants will experience sewing as a social and conversational practice\, build confidence working with their hands in a low-pressure environment\, and contribute to a shared\, provisional body of work. The session offers space to reflect on ideas of elsewhere\, slowness\, care\, and collective making\, rather than producing a defined outcome. \nThe Guest House takes place within IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, featuring works that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speak to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. The exhibition includes Elle Reynolds’ film Morass and sculptural sound piece Black Sun Loungers: The Caribbean Gaze. \nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art-making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling\, and interventions that unsettle the notion of the archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nAll materials including fabric\, threads\, embroidery rings and needles will be provided\, and herbal tea served. DESCRIPTION:Join us on 8 April to mark International Roma Day for Roma Routes\, an evening of photography\, film\, and contemporary art exploring the journeys that shape Roma identity. Bringing together documentary work from a collaborative project in Tiszavasvári\, Hungary\, and artistic reflections by London-based Roma artist Robert Czibi\, the exhibition traces connections between place\, memory\, and belonging. Through images\, stories\, and personal perspectives\, Roma Routes invites audiences to reflect on how identity is shaped between the places we come from and the places we continue to become. \nThis exhibition brings together two intertwined narratives: the story of a segregated Roma community in Tiszavasvári\, and that of an artist born in another Roma neighbourhood in the same region who has carried its memory across borders. \nThe first story is that of collaboration: stepping across internal borders between the countryside and the Hungarian capital\, Budapest\, to involve participants from the Roma neighbourhood of a small town in the North-East of Hungary in a collaborative writing project with local non-Roma residents through the publication of the periodical Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together. \nThe second story is of the artist\, Robert Czibi who crossed internal borders of identity and the physical borders of countries on many occasions before finding his expressive voice in the multiplicity of London’s lingua-culture. The simultaneity of identity as rootedness in Roma origins and identity as motion and interaction with our surroundings is what unites the two narratives that unfold in the images exhibited together. \n\nThe Road Ahead\nDocumentary and Photography Projects from Hungary – Film and photography \nThis photo exhibition was created in collaboration between photojournalist Márton Kállai\, multiple-winner of the Hungarian Press Photo Competition\, and the Tiszavasvári Roma Girls’ Youth Club\, on the initiative of the KRE Linguistic Diversity and Social Participation research group at Károli Gáspár University in Budapest. Together\, Roma and non-Roma participants from Tiszavasvári and Budapest write and publish the journal Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together\, creating a narrative of trust and belonging about Roma futures and the coexistence of Roma and non-Roma in Hungary. The documentary film Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together: Stories of a collaborative journal in support of Roma social participation showcases stages from their journey together: how they forged a collaborative writing and research collective across the borders of identity that separate people living alongside each other. \n\n\nThere I Was Born\, Here I Become\nContemporary Art \nRobert Czibi’s artistic response unfolds as a parallel journey alongside the documentary and the photos. Although Robert’s works reflect his individual journey as a London-based Roma artist from Hungary\, his journey explores the potentialities that open up when collectives or individuals persistently criss-cross and interrogate physical and narrative borders of identity. Through his works\, he returns to the landscapes of his childhood not only to remember\, but to understand how identity is formed between the place of birth and the place of becoming. Through images\, he explores what it means to grow up in a Roma family\, to leave it behind\, and to continue carrying its imprint in his works. DESCRIPTION:For five years\, acting student Anna Torner travelled across the world\, documenting her experiences and inner journey in blog posts. From London to South America\, from India to New Zealand\, her travel journals eventually grew into her 2024 novel\, Itt sem fogunk élni (~We Won’t Live Here Either)\, which traces a young woman’s coming-of-age through her diary entries. \nIn 2025\, Boglárka Berecz and Mátyás Dögei adapted the book for the stage\, with Péter Vargyas composing its music and writing the lyrics. Thus was born the monodrama Wandering the World\, Wondering How to Return–a sensitive and humorous theatrical piece that takes the audience through this intimate journey of self-discovery. \nThroughout Anna Torner’s creative path – moving between writing and acting – her blog posts evolved into works of literary merit\, while acting became a defining part of her life. \nJoin us for this special performance\, which aims to offer us all relatable touchstones and answers. \n\nSynopsis \nIt takes one hour to fly from Budapest to Târgu Mureș. Travelling through England\, Asia\, and South America – sometimes by bicycle\, car\, train\, on foot\, by bus\, ship\, truck\, ferry\, tractor\, boat\, or motorbike – alone\, but never completely alone\, the same journey can take five years. \nThe journey matters more than the destination. I move like a ghost through a Parisian apartment. Pink ponies in London. In the junky quarter\, I swim across the canal with you. We cycle around Southeast  Asia and New  Zealand. Without you\, I hitchhike on Mexican trucks\, my Christmas dinner is green banana boiled with callaloo leaves\, and I rewrite the rules of wild camping. Don’t look for happiness outside. I try what’s worth trying in Colombia\, dance at a Kichwa celebration in Ecuador\, travel through Peru with Tata\, and get close to the Big Dipper itself\, without you. Home is within you. DESCRIPTION:This spring\, The Friends of Holland Park once again turns the Orangery at the heart of the park into an art gallery. \nFor more than forty years\, Friends who are artists and artists who become Friends have come together to show and sell their artwork. The colourful presentation of works by more than 80 predominantly local artists ranges from greeting cards and small prints to large paintings\, as well as jewellery\, ceramics\, and sculpture. \n  \nA jury led by curator and artist Gordon French awards cash prizes for artistic excellence in several categories as well as for work that best expresses the Spirit of Holland Park. Visitors can support The Friends of Holland Park by buying a work from the exhibition or by entering the raffle for one of the tempting prizes donated by local businesses. \nEvery year\, one artist is offered a dedicated feature wall for a more extensive presentation. This year\, The Friends invited Gordon French to provide a mini-retrospective of his own creative practice to thank him and his family for organising the art exhibition for the past 12 years. \n  \nThe concept of holding an art show at the heart of Holland Park was introduced by Christopher Wood and the late Sir Hugh Casson\, renowned architect and former President of the Royal Academy\, during their respective tenures as Chairman and President of the Friends of Holland Park. \n  \nWorking in close liaison with the local borough and park staff\, The Friends of Holland Park is a local community group dedicated to the preservation\, protection and improvement of Holland Park as a place of historic and ecological interest and beauty. \n  \nThe exhibition is sponsored by The Ilchester Estates\, which is fitting as the Ilchester family were the last private owners of Holland House.

The colourful presentation of works by more than 80 predominantly local artists ranges from greeting cards and small prints to large paintings\, from pieces of jewellery to ceramics and sculpture \nA jury led by curator and artist Gordon French awards cash prizes for artistic excellence in several categories as well as for work that best expresses the Spirit of Holland Park. Visitors can support The Friends of Holland Park by buying a work from the exhibition or by entering the raffle for one of the tempting prizes donated by local businesses. \nEvery year\, one artist is offered a dedicated feature wall for a more extensive presentation. This year\, The Friends invited Gordon French to provide a mini-retrospective of his own creative practice to thank him and his family for organising the art exhibition for the past 12 years. \nThe concept of holding an art show at the heart of Holland Park was introduced by Christopher Wood and the late Sir Hugh Casson\, renowned architect and former President of the Royal Academy\, during their respective tenures as Chairman and President of the Friends of Holland Park. \nWorking in close liaison with the local borough and park staff\, The Friends of Holland Park is a local community group dedicated to the preservation\, protection and improvement of Holland Park as a place of historic and ecological interest and beauty. \nThe exhibition is sponsored by The Ilchester Estates\, which is fitting as the Ilchester family were the last private owners of Holland House.

You can even get a hand-drawn portrait of your pup by Graeme Ross. Islington Square is home to plenty of dog-friendly shops and restaurants such as Megan’s\, OMNOM\, Selv Roastery and Bewliehill.  \nThe activation joins the weekly Saturday market in partnership with Urban Food Fest on the Boulevard from 11am – 5 pm showcasing a bustling hub of local makers’ stalls offering street food and artisanal products alongside free creative crafts for all the family. Redeem a free soft drink or craft beer with every market purchase.  \nIslington Square is a vibrant and spacious shopping\, dining & leisure destination on Upper Street\, located between Angel and Highbury & Islington.
