SUMMARY:#ConcertLab: The Sound Within
DESCRIPTION:Roam through an orchestra as it plays\, immersing yourself within a symphony. \nWith Southbank Sinfonia’s musicians scattered across the room\, wander between instruments to gain new sonic perspectives and experience an orchestra in an entirely new way. \nAlongside this\, spatial sound and British Sign Language interpretation will help to take you inside the mind of Beethoven as his hearing vanished\, leaving a man teetering on the precipice of either genius or self-destruction. Voiced by Anton Lesser (Wolf Hall\, Game of Thrones\, The Crown)\, Beethoven’s volatile character mirrors his ‘Eroica’ Symphony\, paving the way for revolution. \n \nAfter the main performance\, an after-party with full bar will stay open until late\, with more live music for entertainment. \nAUDIENCE REVIEWS FOR PREVIOUS #CONCERTLAB PERFORMANCES:\n“Simply one of the best classical concerts I have seen\, and certainly the most innovative.” \n“Honestly\, I can’t remember the last time I felt so exhilarated and moved by any performance. Really spellbinding.” \n“Completely brilliant. Can’t stop thinking about it\, and very much wish you were doing it all again – because I’d definitely come and bring others with me.” \n   Click for the picture for Lessons!

SUMMARY:Earth Hour Concert: Strauss by Candlelight
DESCRIPTION:Join OFE\, the WWF\, and millions round the world choosing to go ‘lights out’ for Earth Hour as we play two of Richard Strauss’ most beautiful and soul-searching works by candlelight. \nAs accelerating climate change and staggering biodiversity loss threaten our planet\, Earth Hour endeavours to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent need to protect it. OFE believes that music must play a part in making these conversations happen\, which is why we are teaming up with the WWF for our Earth Hour 2019 concert. The event will begin with a short presentation by the WWF at 8pm\, followed by a candlelit performance by OFE. In doing so\, we will be joining millions of people choosing to go ‘lights out’ for an hour as a symbolic show of solidarity for the planet. \nThe music chosen for this event was written by Richard Strauss in 1945\, as Europe’s darkest hour finally drew to a close. These extraordinarily beautiful pieces\, written when the composer was in his eighties\, show two contrasting reactions to the world around him: the Metamorphosen weeps for what has been lost\, while the Oboe Concerto strives for optimism. The programme will begin with Benjamin Britten’s beguiling Metamorphoses after Ovid\, itself a meditation on love\, loss\, hope\, and the natural world. \nBritten: Six Metamorphoses after Ovid (selection)\nR. Strauss: Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings\nR. Strauss: Oboe Concerto \nChloe Barnes: oboe\nVictoria Gill: leader\nJohn Warner: conductor

SUMMARY:Roys People Art Fair
DESCRIPTION:Roy’s People Art Fair has been created by artists Roy’s People & Samuel Peacock. We give artists an alternative platform to present their work whilst also creating a unique art fair experience for visitors allowing them to interact with the artists and buy artwork directly from them. At each of our fairs\, you will discover original affordable artwork from a wide variety of artists carefully selected based on quality and talent. \nOver the last 5 years\, Roy & Sam have been working as professional artists. During that time they have exhibited nationally and internationally. Whilst experiencing art fairs and going through the emotions of applying and exhibiting\, Roy decided that the next logical step would be to create the Roy’s People Art Fair. He has joined forces with Sam to add more artistic experience and knowledge to make the shows as successful as possible. \nHere at Roy’s People Art Fair\, the team strongly believe in promoting all levels of artists from emerging to established. SUMMARY:A Simple Space
DESCRIPTION:Watch breathtaking performance that will keep you at the edge of your seats. Witness 7 acrobats push their physical limits without reserve. The performance is simultaneously raw\, frantic and delicate. Supported by driving live percussion and presented so intimately that you can feel the heat\, hear every breath\, and be immersed in every moment. \n\n\n \nA Simple Space evokes real responses in audiences\, something visceral rather than cerebral. Instead of fine-tuning the performance with makeup\, lighting and contrived theatrical overlay\, the cast have deliberately gone the opposite way. The audience is brought in close to surround the stripped back stage. In that space the acrobats are pushed to the physical limit\, breaking down their usual guards and introducing the reality of failure and weakness. With nothing left to hide behind personal narratives come through naturally. This honesty is the essence behind A Simple Space. \nGet YOUR TICKETS for just £18.00

SUMMARY:DEPARTURES: A Photographic Journey Through the Islamic World
DESCRIPTION:Drawing upon a unique collection of historical photographs and postcards\, Departures will reveal the great diversity of the Islamic world’s social and cultural life. The exhibition will explore a geographical area from Morocco in the West to China in the East\, and from the Balkans in the North to Sudan in the South. Historical photographs from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century will be shown alongside a selection of contemporary images from amateur photographers on Instagram. \nOrganised by Asia House and The Barakat Trust\, and curated by Tarik Alireza and Richard Wilding\, Departures will highlight the rich heritage of this region\, exploring its ancient urban centres such as Cairo\, Istanbul and Damascus\, its traditions of travel\, trade and artisanship\, and its varied styles of costume and architecture. The exhibition is both a celebration of this historical diversity\, and a reminder of what has been lost or weakened by cultural destruction\, social change and political upheaval. \nAden\, Yemen. Postcard\, caption: ‘Windmills at Salt works\, Aden’\, photographer ‘Mr. A. Abassi\, V. Photographic Studio\, Aden’\nFez\, Morocco. Postcard\, caption: ‘Dans les rues mystérieuses’\, photographer ‘Flandrin’\nSuez\, Egypt. Postcard\, caption: ‘Fête arabe à Suez’\, photographer and date unknown.\nUzbekistan. Photographic print in album.\nBosnia Postcard\, publisher J. Studnička & Co.\, Sarajevo\nIran. Postcard\, caption: ‘Persian lady in home dress’\, publisher Raphael Tuck & Sons\, London.\nThe title Departures defines the exhibition as a journey of discovery beyond the narrow stereotypes of the region as sectarian\, war torn and culturally bereft. It also reflects the eager\, observing eyes of travellers who have questioned\, courted\, and recorded the Islamic world from the earliest days of photography. These images are the fruit of travel and enquiry\, made increasingly possible by ships and railways\, then the jet engine\, television and internet. Yet this exhibition will also suggest that\, despite the advent of these improved forms of travel and communication\, the Islamic world has become increasingly alien and misunderstood in the West. \nJuxtaposed with the exhibition’s historical photographs will be a mosaic of the Islamic world today seen through a curated sequence of images from the social media platform Instagram. These images\, taken by talented amateur photographers\, will reveal dynamic and diverse cultures – places where a multitude of people live a myriad of ordinary lives. \nThis remarkable insight into the Islamic world will encourage its audience to discover icons of antiquity and fleeting moments of the mundane. The exhibition aims to be a dialogue between past and present\, between the diverse cultures and traditions that make up the Islamic world\, and between the Islamic world and the West. \nA series of associated talks and guided visits have been organised by Asia House and The Barakat Trust to accompany the exhibition.
