SUMMARY:FREAK OUT! at Camden People’s Theatre
DESCRIPTION:VAULT FESTIVAL 2023 SHOW OF THE WEEK NOMINEE \n\n\n\nThis town is falling apart. \n\n\n\nWelcome to Portsford\, a seaside town fighting a losing battle with coastal erosion. When a sudden announcement threatens to tear the community apart in an attempt to raise spirits\, everyone comes together for a night of drinking and dancing. But as the party becomes a pressure cooker\, difficult conversations surrounding the shared loss of home and collective and individual responsibility rise to the surface. But wouldn’t you rather just dance the night away? \n\n\n\nDevised and performed by the company\, this show is inspired by the UK’s disappearing coastline. It draws from research into British seaside communities threatened by coastal erosion and stimulates conversations around activism\, climate anxiety and climate justice. FREAK OUT! experiments with theatrical styles and genres\, blending clowning\, movement\, live art and multimedia with an issue-led narrative into a high-energy cocktail of a show. Enjoy it while it lasts\, because things are about to get messy… literally. \n\n\n\n\n“Celebrates the coast’s beauty and laments its loss… it’s surprisingly and suddenly hilarious with an undertone of impending doom and exceptionally ingenious flair” ★★★★★ Broadway World \n\n\n\n“A poetically playful and creatively choreographed moment for reflection and call to action” ★★★★ Fringe Biscuit \n\n\n\n\nThis production has been supported by funding from Arts Council England. \n\n\n\nRunning time: 1 hour\, no interval \n\n\n\nCamden People’s Theatre\, 58-60 Hampstead Rd\, NW1 2PY \n\n\n\nTickets £8-£12 – 20% discount if you book before 14th Feb! 25% discount if you book for more than 1 show in CPT’s spring season here \n\n\n\nAge guidance: 12+ \n\n\n\nContent warnings: Strong language\, themes of climate anxiety\, audience participation\, loud noises and flashing lights. Food is consumed onstage and offered to members of the audience.

DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nHOUSE Of ALL\nTHE COURTESY GROUP\nThursday 18 April\nThe Dome\, 2A Dartmouth Park Hill\, Tufnell Park\, N19 5QH\n7pm | £18 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/wac85b671659 \nHow odd it is that the first reports of the existence of HOUSE Of ALL only appeared only early this year\, followed by a magnificently-received debut album and two UK tours. \nPraise was immediate and ecstatic\, in spite of controversy from former management of The Fall\, who took offence at Martin Bramah’s off-the-cuff description of the band as “part of The Fall family continuum”. Despite this self-evident fact – Bramah was The Fall’s original singer before switching to guitar\, and with the other members (Peter Greenway\, Paul Hanley\, Steve Hanley and Si Wolstencroft) HOUSE Of ALL collectively spanned the entire length of The Fall’s career. Controversy arose\, resulting in a full Guardian article on the band months before the album’s release – a scant three days after it was announced.\nTheir two brief tours were flawless; nearly every show sold out\, and the latter tour was bolstered by “Bay City Pistols”\, a limited package that sold out in two weeks.\nEven before the first album was released\, HOUSE Of All re-entered the studio to record a still-mysterious second album\, which will be debuted on the April 2024 dates.\nhttps://houseofall.bandcamp.com/album/house-of-all \n  \nTHE COURTESY GROUP are set apart in their own musical galaxy as Birmingham’s own tunemongering grinesters. They survive against fashion\, mediocrity\, systematic dullness and impossible odds. Marmite to most musical confectionery\, their debut album ‘Tradesman’s Entrance’ and its successor ‘Second City Liquor’ have aired on BBC6’s Stuart Maconie’s Freakzone\, Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service and Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour (and previously on The John Peel Show on Radio 1)\, as well as receiving glowing reviews from Mojo\, Uncut\, Louder Than War and Stewart Lee in ‘The Sunday Times’: live\, they remain consistently dangerous and a robust antidote to a fully digitalised itunes world.\nhttps://thecourtesygroup.bandcamp.com/ \n

SUMMARY:INDIGO GIRLS: It’s Only Life After All
DESCRIPTION:Known for stirring harmonies and socially conscious lyrics\, iconic folk rock duo Indigo Girls are the subject of this intimate and insightful documentary\, which tracks their decades-long career. \nAn intimate look into the lives of one of the most iconic folk-rock bands in America – the Indigo Girls. With never-before-seen archival and intimate vérité the film dives into the songwriting and storytelling of the music that transformed a generation\, and continues influence new generation with there influence in modern film and beyond. Just stick the top down and drive away (Barbie(2023). \n \n  \nThere will be a LGBT drinks reception prior to the screening\, brought to you in partnership with Out&Wild \n  \nThe story of the classic lesbian duo the Indigo Girls is told with humour and heart\, through a blend of archival material and camcorder footage shot by Amy Ray herself.\nIt’s the early 1990s. You’re queer\, you’re closeted and the news is full of gay bashing. Who are you listening to on your Sony Walkman? The Indigo Girls! Amy Ray and Emily Saliers met in school and spent the next three decades breaking hearts and stirring souls with their raw lyrics and gorgeous harmonies. But things weren’t always as glamorous as they seemed\, with misogyny\, the religious right and other personal demons playing their part. New fans will be surprised by just how on the money the Indigo Girls remain\, while old fans will enjoy singing along (‘I went to the doctor\, I went to the mountains…’). This is country music at its queerest: big hair\, big heart and a truck load of guitar.

SUMMARY:Cause We Care - DJ Night in Aid of Palestine
DESCRIPTION:As a Dance Music and creative Community\, we will come together to host a massive FREE event supported by some of electronic music’s most influential and scene-shaping names on Sunday\, April 21st\, at The Cause. Come and dance with us\, and all we ask is that you make a donation at the door…whatever you can. All monies raised will be donated to Medical Aid For Palestinians (MAP). \nDJ’s: Arveene – Asad Silverlinings – Bugz In The Attic – Carl Loben – Choci – Colin Dale – Chris Liberator – Ditchcoteque – Earl Gateshead – El Conchitas – Grace Sands – Gerrardo – Giles Smith – Jumping Jack Frost – Just Grace – Jaye Ward – Liam Sharkey – Lisa Loud – Lisa Moorish -Mr C – Mark Sinclair – Miss C – Open The Gate Sound – Pete Fowler – Ray Keith – Sassy Wylie – Silverlining – Smokin Jo – Tiddles – Victor Von Weef – 3 Minds \nMore to be added… \nThe dreadful attack by Hamas on Israel on 7 October 2023\, when 1\,200 Israeli citizens were killed in a single attack and 235 taken hostage\, must and will always be condemned by all of us. \nThe subsequent response by the Israeli government and the Israeli Defence Forces has seen the collective punishment of innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza: the wholesale destruction of infrastructure\, the bombing of Hospitals and schools\, and the targeting of journalists\, of which 88 have been killed (Committee for the Protection of Journalist) and the mass expulsions of civilians to so-called “Safe Zones”. The estimated Palestinian casualties now border 30\,000\, of which 10\,000 are reported to be children. These numbers continue to grow daily as the military operation continues\, and casualties on both sides of the conflict are reaching higher numbers every day. \nHire DJs in London

SUMMARY:Plant Gazing: Under Dandelion Moon
DESCRIPTION:Step into the enchanting realm of artist Joseph Walsh’s transformative workshop\, where alchemy and artistic expression interweave. \nAs we approach May we see the emergence of the Dandelion Moon.  Flora of spring is appearing and some are nutrient rich to support our flourishing. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with plant allies and set personal intentions for the coming months. \nImmerse yourself in the IMT Gallery space\, subtly smudged with Clary Sage and Rose to encourage chi flow and inspire clarity. A curated selection of plants will be available for drawing\, accompanied by prompts and guidance on the techniques of plant gazing and observation. Joseph Walsh will guide you through a series of “warm up” exercises for shifting habitual ways of looking\, moving on to experimental longer durational drawing sketches. Prompts will be given to glean and speculate what may be communicated by shape\, form and behaviour\, what Anthropologist Gregory Bateson calls “transforms of environment”. \nTake a moment to ground yourself and reconnect with your body\, sipping on Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) tea\, cultivated and harvested from Joseph’s wildlife plot. Rich in vitamins\, minerals and antioxidants\, it pioneers and restores poor soil\, whilst in our own bodies\, it tonifies liver and kidneys. We will take influence from this earth regulator to set our own intentions into spring. As a special takeaway\, participants will receive a portion of this tea – an intentional offering for personal contemplation or to share with someone special. \nJoseph Walsh\, an artist rooted in forging human-nature connections through his work with plants. Using drawing\, painting and film to actualise a co-existing with nature. Having studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University\, he brings artistic insight to our journey. Joseph recently delivered the course ‘Floral Time: How Artists Describe Plants’ at the Berlin Art Institute\, workshops at Beaconsfield Gallery and No Show Project Space\, as well as sharing his expertise with art students at Goldsmiths and Reading University. \nThis workshop is designed for individuals who seek to deepen their connection with nature and explore their creative potential. No prior experience is required – just an open heart and a curious mind. While drawing materials will be provided\, feel free to bring your own sketchbooks and preferred materials to enhance your experience. \nBelow we offer you a glimpse of what to expect from Joseph’s workshop\, as told by previous participants: \n“The workshop was well structured\, and thus we were able to connect with the plant on a deeper level. Joe is a meticulous facilitator. Thank you”. – participant \n“A very naturally held space offering freedom to be intuitive\, and be yourself. The time flowed perfectly. An exploration and very close look into the oneness\, mirroring thoughts within the group. What a full whole\, rich experience with the plants\, yourself and each other.” – participant \nReserve your spot now for an evening of inspiration and connection. A limited number of tickets are available free of charge for residents of Tower Hamlets. See you there!

SUMMARY:Black Swans
DESCRIPTION:Foreign Affairs presents\n\n\n\n\n\nBlack Swans\nby Christina Kettering\nTranslated by Pauline Wick\nDirected by Ria Samartzi\n\n\n\n\n\nWould you trust a robot to take care of your elderly mother?\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo sisters face a difficult decision: how to best care for their elderly mother as her health declines. Rosie\, a humanoid care robot\, seems like the perfect solution. But soon\, they have to reckon with the unforeseen consequences of bringing artificial intelligence into their lives.\n\n\n\n\n\nBlack Swans explores the ethical and moral dilemmas of introducing AI into human caregiving\, offering a poignant (and often humorous) look at family dynamics\, societal norms and the pervasive influence of technology on our lives.\n\n\n\n\n\nChristina Kettering‘s award-winning play examines the intersection of AI\, healthcare and the challenges of caregiving through a female lens. It prompts questions about the boundaries of AI and the essence of compassion in our increasingly digital world.
