SUMMARY:The Glass Door Sleep Out (or in) 2020
DESCRIPTION:Glass Door Homeless Charity is holding both a physical and virtual Sleep Out on 2 October this year to raise vital funds for individuals facing homelessness. \nThe event is due to take place at the Duke of York Square in Chelsea for the eighth year running\, if government guidance allows. Extra safety measures will allow participants to take part in this post-lockdown outdoor event\, which raised over £200\,000 last year to support people out of homelessness. \nGlass Door is also encouraging people to take part remotely in a location of their choosing\, whether that be a balcony\, a garden or the floor of their living room. \nFor the first time this year\, Glass Door will be bringing all participants together via a live stream of special guests and features throughout the night. The virtual elements will ensure participants can feel connected regardless of where they take part. \nActors Colin Firth and Jim Carter will be reading a poem and a bedtime story\, accessible to all participants and supporters as part of the virtual live-streamed event. Plus\, sleep specialist Dr Kat Lederle will offer her insights on why a good nights’ rest is so important\, and Nadia Mishchanka will host an early-morning yoga session. Additional guests will be announced closer to the date. The line-up will also feature interviews with event participants\, shelter guests and front-line staff.

SUMMARY:Farm Africa Virtual Carol Concert
DESCRIPTION:Farm Africa has announced its annual carol concert will take place virtually for the first time from 7pm to 7.45pm on Wednesday 16 December 2020. \nThe concert will be hosted by farmer and star of Quest’s ‘Born Mucky – Life on the farm’\, Ally Hunter Blair\, and will feature readings by the charity’s patron Michael Palin and agricultural journalist and broadcaster Anna Jones\, as well as a selection of seasonal carols. \nThe concert falls in the same week as Farm Africa’s appeal on BBC Radio 4\, also presented by Michael Palin\, which will be broadcast twice on Sunday 13 December and once on Thursday 17 December. \nThe concert is free to attend\, but there will be opportunities to make donations to Farm Africa including entering a prize draw. Funds raised will support the charity’s work helping farming families across eastern Africa to improve their agricultural practices\, protect their natural resources and strengthen their business management skills. \nAlly Hunter Blair commented: “I am delighted to be hosting Farm Africa’s first ever virtual carol concert. Farm Africa is an outstanding charity and I have seen at first hand some of the truly amazing work that they are doing to help transform the lives of fellow farmers. I’d love to see you all there for some festive cheer. Join us on 16 December!” \nAnna Jones\, who makes television and radio programmes about farming and rural affairs\, including BBC One’s Countryfile and occasionally presents Radio 4’s Farming Today and On Your Farm\, added: “African agriculture holds a very special place in my heart. I have been lucky enough to travel around Kenya\, Tanzania\, Ghana\, Cote d’Ivoire and South Africa meeting farmers and farming communities. It’s easy to feel isolated and powerless in 2020 so Farm Africa’s virtual carol concert is a great opportunity to be involved in something that will raise much-needed funds and much-needed festive cheer!” \nMarian Torres\, Special Events Manager at Farm Africa\, commented: “Farmers across eastern Africa are facing unprecedented challenges. The triple threat of the COVID-19 pandemic\, an invasion of desert locusts and severe flooding threatens to plunge farming communities in the region into crippling poverty. The virtual carol concert offers an opportunity to not only enjoy a festive evening from the comfort of your own home but to help provide farmers in eastern Africa with the knowledge and tools they need to build stronger\, sustainable businesses that can thrive\, even during a crisis.” \nTo book a place at the concert please visit www.farmafrica.org/carols \n  \nBook Christmas Carol Singers for Christmas in London \n

SUMMARY:Eskawata Kayawai Film Screening & After Party
DESCRIPTION:Portico Gallery will be hosting the UK screening of the Eskawata Kayawai feature documentary. Ninawà Pai da Mata and Director Patrick Belem will introduce the film and host a Q & A. \n\n\n\nFilm Synopsis: \n\n\n\nIn the heart of the Amazon Rainforest\, the Kaxinawá people (self-claimed Huni Kuin\, “true people”) are experiencing their cultural and spiritual renaissance. After decades of slavery during the rubber plantation era\, they were captured in the forests with dogs\, marked with numbers and forbidden to speak their language and live their culture. It took more than 20 years of hard work\, prayers\, and cultural strengthening undertaken by the spiritual leader Ninawá Pai da Mata so that his people could return to their ancestral way of life. \n\n\n\nIn this feature film\, we are taken by the villagers to the cacophony of the forest\, the beauty and the simplicity of everyday life\, the enchantments of the forest medicines and the effort of what it takes for a tribe to rediscover themselves in communion with nature. Such a powerful return home is an example for the world\, especially in the critical moment we live\, proving that it is possible to rescue ancestry and revolutionise everyday life to be in harmony with the planet. \n\n\n\nFollowing the screening\, there will be live traditional native music performed by Ninawa Pai Da Mata\, the Chief of the Novo Futuro Village of the Huni Kuin people in Acre\, Brazil\, who comes from an unbroken lineage of powerful spiritual leaders (Pajes). His name means Forest Man or Father of the Forest\, and his presence is truly something special. Since he started travelling in 2013\, he quickly became known as one of the original rockstars from the forest and has touched and inspired many people worldwide.  \n\n\n\nHe is a gifted musician and captivates people wherever he goes with his charisma and power and sharing his message of nature\, love and humility. He has appeared at the Glastonbury Festival and Medicine Festival in the UK and is one of the foremost spiritual leaders of the annual Aniwa gathering in the USA. He will be joined by two of his sons\, Marciel and Yube.
