SUMMARY:Turning Earth Spring Ceramics Market
DESCRIPTION:Turning Earth markets are back for another celebration of hand-made ceramics with our spring makers’ market the weekend of the 1st/2nd of April in our Highgate studio. Come and wander around the beautifully renovated 1930s industrial building just a minute’s walk from the Highgate station and browse through the work of over 100 ceramic artists. With live classical guitar music and locally made artisanal food sold alongside beautiful tableware and sculpture\, it’s an excellent excuse for a day out shopping. \n\n\n\nIt’s also a sure way to buy ethically – every pot sold at Turning Earth has been made locally\, by hand\, by someone who loves what they do. Turning Earth’s markets are the biggest of their kind in the UK. This a not-to-be-missed opportunity to pick up ceramic treats for yourself and gifts for your friends. There will be live demos of pots being thrown on the wheel so you can come and experience a real-life working pottery studio.

His captivating work probes into the evolution of societal identity whilst always pushing artistic language to its creative limits. Through painting\, muraling\, and writing as well as lithography and engraving classes in Florence- Aristides brings order from chaos by archiving social realities with artwork that transcends the boundaries between culture & perception. \n\n\n\n“RAKA TAKA (2017)” and “KALIDONIA (2022)”\, shown at Holy Art Fair 2023\, are multidisciplinary works presented by Aristides Ureña Ramos under the larger project “PANAMA SUMMER”. \n\n\n\nLive Doodles by Frankie Curtis! \n\n\n\nFrankie is a world-renowned doodle artist hailing from London\, UK. With her vivid characters and distinct style freshly honed through years of hard work\, she has established herself as an inventive purveyor of artistry unmatched by any other. From animation to large murals – nothing is off limits for Frankie who boasts many notable achievements such as competing in the World Illustration Championships; publishing her own book; displaying artwork at several exhibitions worldwide; and painting live at multiple festivals across Britain! \n\n\n\nFrankie will be creating her amazing work live at the ground floor of The Holy Art Fair during the opening night\, using the reception area as her canvas! \n\n\n\nAhuva Zeloof – Exclusive Sculptures Exhibition \n\n\n\nAhuva Zeloof\, uses her extraordinary skills to mould powerful\, organic sculptures inspired by her passion for nature and attention to the beauty of the world around her. Born in Iraq\, surrounded by golden stone courtyards and impressive architecture\, she spent her childhood immersed in the rich landscapes of the Middle East before moving to London in the Seventies. Ahuva’s intimate understanding of the materials she uses for her sculptures\, for examples her process of casting handmade wax moulds into bronze\, shows her immersion in the creative process right down to the fingerprints still visible on the sculptures themselves. For this series of sculptures\, titled New Movement\, Ahuva has chosen to explore how bronze can be used to convey the same malleability and flexibility of the human form. The poses struck by the sculptures themselves are a direct representation of Ahuva’s love for yoga and her time teaching.

SUMMARY:Desire Jewellery & Silversmithing Fair
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 London Desire Jewellery & Silversmithing Fair will be held at Chelsea Old Town Hall from 10-12 March.  This stunning mixed media jewellery and silversmithing event\, where visitors can purchase directly from contemporary designer makers selected from the best in the UK\, is an event not to be missed. \n\n\n\nDesire offers visitors a choice of individual jewellers and contemporary silversmiths who have been selected for their superb and innovative craftsmanship and have a genuine passion for the work they create.  Visitors can see and purchase from an exciting range of both emerging British talent as well as more established designer-makers. \n\n\n\nAnyone celebrating a special occasion – maybe a birthday or anniversary – may also like to speak to many of the makers about commissioning bespoke pieces of jewellery or silverware.  Several visitors in the past have commissioned engagement or wedding rings at the event and\, by working with the designer-maker\, have been able to have input into the design and come up with something that means so much more and is completely individual.  Many of the makers will also be happy to speak about remodelling inherited jewellery to give it a more contemporary feel. \n\n\n\nWhether you are looking to treat yourself\, purchase a unique gift for someone special or commission something for a special occasion\, make a date to visit Desire in Chelsea.

SUMMARY:Turning Earth Highgate Ceramics Market
DESCRIPTION:Turning Earth opens its fourth London ceramics centre  – this time in Highgate – with a weekend maker market on 15/16 October.  Nose around the beautifully renovated 1930s industrial building complete with a contemplative garden\, and browse work from a hundred of London’s up-and-coming ceramicists.\n \nWith regular visitors\, including celebrity chefs Nigella Lawson and Yotam Ottolenghi\, the Turning Earth market is in the vanguard of a maker movement that\, despite many recent shocks to small industry\, continues to grow.\n \nShow solidarity with local makers as they express their creativity in the face of the energy crisis and rub off some of the peace that comes with working with the calming medium of clay. As usual\, there’ll be street food and live Klezmer music\, and – inspired by the Spring’s #CookForUkraine campaign – this time\, they’ll sell specially donated wares to raise money for displaced children supported by UNICEF as part of  #MakeForUkraine.\n

SUMMARY:Train to Teach London
DESCRIPTION:A national recruitment campaign is coming to London to encourage local people to learn more about life as a teacher. The session aims to inspire more people in the region to join a unique profession that helps shape the next generation’s lives. \nAnyone interested in finding out more about the benefits and rewards of Teaching can visit the Train to Teach event at Congress Centre\, 28 Great Russell Street\, London\, WC1B 3LS on Saturday 5th March 2022 from 10 am to 2:30 pm. \nVisitors will learn how to get into Teaching from expert advisers\, training providers and local teachers. \nThe event is part of a programme of events organised across different towns and cities by the national Get Into Teaching campaign\, which provides a comprehensive programme of support to help graduates become teachers. \nAbout 10\,000 people attend a series of Train to Teach events every year. At the latest event\, attendees will be able to chat with current teachers to find out what a day in the life of a teacher is really like\, and get one-to-one advice from teaching experts on their application. Information will also be available about how to fund your training – you could get a tax-free bursary of up to £24\,000 to train as a teacher in selected subjects. \nReflecting on her career to date\, Anastasia Lada\, a maths teacher at Tolworth Girls School and Sixth Form in Surbiton\, who will be sharing their experience and insights at the event\, said: \n“I’m proud to be supporting the campaign\, and I would encourage anyone who is just starting in the world of work or looking to switch jobs to consider a career in Teaching.\n“Teaching is such a varied role\, from the emotional rewards of making students feel like anything is possible to use your experience to bring lessons to life – no two days are the same. The best part of it for me is to see it in students’ eyes when they understand something and can apply a new concept to new questions. \n“I know the impact good teachers can have on a child\, not just in terms of academic success but in teaching a child the importance of social skills\, promoting resilience\, self-worth and confidence.” \nBeing a teacher means impacting students well beyond the classroom years. In recent research of over 2\,000 people for getting into Teaching\, two fifths* (40%) of adults surveyed in England work in a job or career related to one of their favourite subjects from their time at school. Furthermore\, almost three quarters** (74%) of those surveyed who have a favourite subject said their teachers’ passion for the subject helped spark their interest in it1. \nRoger Pope\, the spokesperson for the Get Into Teaching campaign and a National Leader of Education\, said: \n“It’s a beautiful feeling knowing that every lesson is helping to shape the life of a young person. \n“As well as the immense satisfaction of witnessing students learn and knowing you are influencing who or what they might become\, Teaching enables you to tap into your talents and passion for a particular subject. \n“It also offers some competitive financial rewards and long-term prospects. \n“Anyone who feels they have the passion and potential to teach should join us for this Train to Teach event in London.” \nThe free Train to Teach event is held at Congress Centre\, 28 Great Russell Street\, London\, WC1B 3LS\, on Saturday 5th March 2022 from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Registration in advance is advisable\, but visitors can turn up and register on the day. \nAs a teacher\, you can help create a society where everyone\, wherever they live\, regardless of gender\, race\, ethnicity\, education or age\, has the opportunity to succeed. The Get Into Teaching service has experienced advisers available to give free support and advice. To learn more about a career in the classroom and the range of recruitment events being held this term\, visit: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk\, or call the Get Into Teaching Line on 0800 389 2500.

SUMMARY:Turning Earth - Ceramics Market in Leyton
DESCRIPTION:The much-loved Winter Ceramics Market will return to Turning Earth’s Leyton studio on Saturday 4th and 5th December 2021. More than 70 ceramicists will sell their work directly from the studio\, and there will be wheel-throwing and hand-building demos throughout the weekend – with the option for visitors to have a go too. \nA charity stall selling donated work will again raise money for charity Help Refugees. There’ll also be delicious Vietnamese Street food from Hanoi Ca Phe\, mulled wine and mince pies\, as well as live klezmer from members of the much-loved festival band The Turbans\, and folk music from Davey Green. Alongside the market\, a host of neighbouring artists\, photographers\, furniture makers and designers on the Argall Avenue industrial estate will open their doors so you can explore their studios. \nOne of the gifts of the pandemic has been in showing people what they most value\, which became strikingly apparent when so much of life was restricted. People tried crafts in more significant numbers than ever before during the lockdowns\, but the move online deprived everyone of the tactile experience of buying work directly from the maker. In what promises to be an inspiring reunion of makers and ceramics lovers\, you can expect to see pieces made with kitchen implements when our makers couldn’t leave their homes\, among the many creative ideas refined in lockdown. Like so many independent artisans\, ceramicists have suffered badly because so many outlets for their work have been closed over the past two years – buying independent at Christmas shoppers can help keep the craft alive.

SUMMARY:Train to Teach London
DESCRIPTION:People in London are being encouraged to join a virtual careers event to find out more about life as a teacher. The session\, part of a national recruitment drive\, aims to inspire more people in the region to join a unique profession that helps shape the lives of the next generation. \nThe free virtual ‘Train to Teach London’ event will take place on Saturday and will be supported by a local teacher Dimitra Totikidou from Orleans Park School Twickenham. At the event\, maths teacher Dimitra will be live on the platform to share her experience and insights\, as well as helping others to explore teaching as a career. \nThe Train to Teach events are part of the national Get into Teaching campaign which provides a comprehensive programme of support to help graduates become teachers. Last year alone\, thousands of aspiring teachers attended a series of face-to-face events. For this academic year and in light of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions\, events are being hosted online so anyone curious or set on a career in teaching can still speak to current teachers from their area\, as well as expert advisers who can help them with training options and next steps. \nTo gain access to the online event\, people will need to register at least two working days in advance. On the day\, upon entering the virtual event platform\, attendees will be greeted with welcome videos and introductory presentations to give them a flavour of teaching. They can also enter the live marketplace where there will be experienced teacher training advisors\, current teachers and local teacher training providers who can answer any questions. \nYou could receive a £24\,000 tax-free bursary to train as a teacher\, in selected subjects\, and newly qualified teachers start on a minimum starting salary of £25\,000 to £32\,000\, depending on location. \nApplications for teacher training\, starting in September 2021\, are now open.
