SUMMARY:Notting Hill Carnival 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Notting Hill Carnival\, Europe’s biggest street festival is organised by Notting Hill Carnival Limited. \nThe festival is filled with free open-air performances and always joined by a massive parade with live and recorded music\, dancers and performers. \n \n  \n \n  \n  \nCelebrating the Carnival’s establishment and ongoing development; Caribbean \nCulture; artistic talents and creativity; enhancement of community spirit and \ninnovative platforms embracing cultural diversity. \n  \n\n\n \n  \nSchedule  \n\nSunday\, August 25th will start early\, at 6:00 am\, with a traditional carnival opening performed in the Caribbean Islands called J’Ouvert. This event’s main attraction is a parade comprised of revelers donned with mug and brightly colored paints. A Children’s Parade will stroll through the streets during the day and at night as children dance and perform in ornate costumes\, swirling the brilliant-colored clothing. Sunday is the best day for families with young children with smaller crowds of people and plenty of kid-inspired floats in the parade. \n \n\n\nAll day and into the night Sunday you can catch live music on stages in Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park and Powis Square and sample incredible foods from vendors while listening to all kinds of Caribbean inspired music from 38 static sound systems. \n\n\nAs always\, the Grand Finale will be on Monday\, August 26th with a culmination of dancing\, street performances\, steel drum music groups\, and the Notting Hill Grand Finale Parade. He is interested in how this can be transformed to portray the curvature of the human body\, and the delicacy and flow of covering cloth. His meticulous technique and focus on quality and finish follow in the tradition of classical sculpture. Using marble\, onyx and alabaster\, sourced from around the world\, Vanstone’s work reflects the 21st century passion with the curvaceous architecture of Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid\, together with the continuing allure of the human form as portrayed by artists such as Henry Moore. \nFor his solo show at Serena Morton\, Paul Vanstone looks at the human form close up. Using materials Vanstone has been working with for over a quarter of a century\, each piece starts in the quarry\, from Carrara in Italy to Portugal and India. Walking through these stone yards\, often well trodden paths through landscapes of marble\, these journeys are an essential part of the creative process\, stimulating ideas and forging new directions in his work. Back at the studio\, the blocks are drawn on\, one carving often informing the next. \nVanstone uses the particular qualities of each stone\, to convey how it absorbs and reflects light like human skin. He is able to transform hard stone to portray the softness and curvature of the human body. From subtle to dramatic\, he uses the veining of each stone to accentuate the form creating movement and drama. \nVanstone studied sculpture at Central St Martin’s School of Art and the Royal College of Art\, London. His work is in many distinguished collections\, both in the UK and internationally. Prior to this\, each day 9 Irish women travelled to the UK\, spending up to €1\,000 to be considered criminals in their pursuit of a safe abortion. Although abortion has been decriminalised in both Ireland and Northern Ireland\, the Abortion Support Network charity still fund women to travel to England from both countries for the procedure. \n  \n‘Thoughtful exploration of abortion question in Ireland with strong performances’ The Stage \n  \nLaura Wyatt O’Keeffe is part of a family steeped in Irish politics – her great granduncle was Michael Collins who fought for Ireland’s independence and brokered/signed the peace treaty with the United Kingdom. DESCRIPTION:The Auction Collective’s annual programme of seasonal auctions returns this March with The Spring Auction 2020. \nTaking place in a former Victorian Warehouse in Angel\, this curated show will bring together 90 artworks handpicked straight from the studios of some of today’s most talented contemporary artists. \nEmerging graduates from Goldsmith’s\, Central Saint Martins\, Camberwell and more will be exhibited alongside established independent and under-represented artists.  \nA programme of events will take place throughout the week\, culminating with a public auction of all 90 artworks on Saturday 28 March.  \nTo make buying art more affordable\, each artwork is under £3\,000 and there are no buyer’s fees.
