SUMMARY:Active Involvement in Research (AIRD) 2024: in person and online health conference
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Active Involvement in Research events bring together patients\, service users\, carers\, local people\, researchers\, health and care professionals\, and organisations in south London and beyond. \nThis year’s theme is ‘Improving health and care in south London\, shaping future research.’ \nFor several years\, Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London has researched how various types of health and social care might be improved and inequalities tackled. \nStaff\, public contributors\, the community\, and other partners have worked hard to successfully understand and achieve change for local people who experience a range of issues. This includes those with multiple conditions and those facing disadvantage and discrimination that affects their well-being. But many south Londoners are still at risk and face barriers to getting the treatment and support they need. \nThis year\, Active Involvement in Research will look at: \n\nWhat the focus of future work should be from April 2026 to March 2031\, if funding is available\nHow can we\, our community and other partners build on local strengths and direct limited resources to address current challenges in useful ways? This includes not duplicating what other research teams and organisations have done.\nHow can we further develop active involvement and recognise the value of lived experience in future research?\n\nThis is the second of two events. It will be held online on 18 November 2024\, following the in-person event on 13 November. \nYou are welcome to join us at either or both events to hear about thinking to date and share your views\, which will help to shape future research. Further information will follow\, but places are limited\, so booking early is advisable. \nAttendance is free\, and all are welcome. \nFind out more \n\nTo find out more about the event\, please email involvement coordinator savitri.hensman@kcl.ac.uk. You can also visit www.arc-sl.nihr.ac.uk\nPlease note: Payments will be made to public members who have agreed on a role.

SUMMARY:Innovations for a Sustainable Future; AR Interactive Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:A brand-new interactive exhibition touching on the fast-evolving digital revolution as well as the pressing challenges faced by our generation. With both Europe and the world undergoing a major technological transformation\, new phenomena such as artificial intelligence are slowly making their way into all aspects of our lives\, from communication to health\, from culture to sustainability. What are the innovations and scientific discoveries shaping our future? \n\n\n\nThe Innovations for a Sustainable Future exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between science\, society\, culture\, and art. Its main aim is to address current global issues and the inevitable role science and new technologies will play in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set up by the United Nations in 2015 as a blueprint for a better\, more sustainable future for all. The 17 SDGs were adopted by all UN member states agreeing to work on\, among other things\, a plan to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger\, achieve gender equality and avert climate threats by 2030. \n\n\n\nThis interactive augmented reality exhibition was artistically rendered by the renowned Czech graphic designer Pavel Fuksa\, drawing from the concept of the successful Czech Innovation Expo which travelled the world presenting Czech scientific discoveries and innovations. The new London exhibition highlights innovations and issues on a European level\, reflecting the higher purpose of science with special emphasis on the means needed to implement the ambitious SGDs. \n\n\n\nHow the Exhibition WorksVisitors will see seemingly static outdoor panels with abstract symbols on the walls. After downloading the exhibition app (available free for Android and iOS)\, they will see the space around them come to life on their devices\, allowing them to explore in a fun and unique way a variety of scientific stories and fascinating information about technological innovations contributing to our sustainable future. \n\n\n\nEXHIBITION WEBSITE \n\n\n\n\nExhibition dates: 14 July – 15 October\n\n\n\nPrivate View: Thursday 13 July 2023\, 6.30-8.30 pmFree\, all welcome\, with complimentary drinks – REGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition was created by the Czech Centres in collaboration with the Czech Technology Agency. SUMMARY:Pathogen of War
DESCRIPTION:Shubbak Festival and BAC present the preview of Pathogen of War: An immersive experience exploring a mysterious killer born of war. In 2023\, this pathogen kills between 50\,000-100\,000 people a year.  \n\n\n\nWe’ll take you forward to 2073\, a decade after the Bio-Rift – the moment when all bacteria became resistant to all our antibiotics\, resulting in the deaths of around half the human population. \n\n\n\nThis speculative interactive work combines real science with a possible near future looking at the dangers of antibiotic resistance. As participants\, you’ll become members of the Recovery Administration\, being trained in what caused the Bio-Rift and tasked with ensuring it never happens again. \n\n\n\nIraqi medical anthropologist Dr Omar Dewachi will take you on a journey to understand how Acinetobacter baumannii went from being a relatively benign bacteria to a “perfect killer”\, also known by its US moniker ‘Iraqibacter’ or the ‘invisible enemy’. \n\n\n\nTogether you’ll reveal the many layers of this bacteria’s social history – from the microscopic to the geopolitical\, unearthing how the consequences of war can drive pathogens\, which threaten the viability of antibiotics\, and our health\, globally. \n\n\n\nThis is a preview run of the show in London. \n\n\n\nDirector: Yasmin FeddaExecutive Producer: May Abdalla – AnagramProducer: Dan Davies-Black Leaf Films \n\n\n\nDeveloped with CPH: Lab and at the National Theatre Immersive Storytelling Studio residency.Generously supported by Arts Council England.Supported by Queen Mary University of London.
