DESCRIPTION:Dig deeper into the world of advance operating theatre and robotics made for  effective surgery. Join the inaugral lecture with Daniel Elson\, a Professor in the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery\, Institute of Global Health Innovation and Department of Surgery and Cancer\, Imperial College London as he dives into the topic of Light-based technologies such as fluorescence\, multispectral and polarisation resolved imaging are opening up the possibility for in vivo tissue characterization and image-guided surgery using live information feedback. Rather than relying on the naked eye or preoperative MRI or CT scan data\, surgeons in the future operating theatre will see an augmented reality view of the margins of diseased tissues or tumours at the time of the surgery. Come along for a fun day out for children and adults! \nThis event celebrates the successful pond restoration of Pine Pond carried out by Froglife and the local council in March 2019. Before the work\, Pine Pond had little native vegetation\, low oxygen levels and no breeding amphibians. Within 2 weeks of the restoration work\, toads were spotted breeding in the pond. The UK’s toad population has declined by 68% over the last 30 years so Pine Pond is now a valuable asset in helping the species survive. \nOur T.O.A.D Show will include a variety of free activities available for the public to get involved with\, including: \n• Free Wildlife Photography Workshops with an expert wildlife photographer\n• Virtual Reality Experience – See what life is like from a toad’s point-of-view!\n• Guided Walks around the site\n• Local street artists live-painting a mural of a common toad (1 of an edition of 7 in London)\n• Pond Doctor – Ask our resident expert any questions you have about amphibians or ponds\n• Information Stand – Learn how to identify London’s reptiles and amphibians and find out what it takes to build the perfect pond\n• Children’s activities

DESCRIPTION:Intelligent speakers are now paving the way in the AI scene. Alquist\, a social chatbot designed by the Czech Technical University team of students under the leadership of Jan Šedivý\, has won second place twice in a row in the Amazon Alexa Prize competition\, while beating more than a hundred international academic teams. Jan will briefly review the competition and its primary motivations but his main focus will be on the Alquist team’s expertise\, which embraces several disciplines\, such as Conversational AI\, Dialogue Management\, Linguistics\, Audio design\, Creative writing\, and many more. Šedivý will also explain the development of the dialogues for favourite conversational topics. Jan holds 19 US patents and his main areas of interest are AI\, the programming language ML\, Natural Language Understanding\, and mobile\, internet and cloud computing. \nMichael Londesborough\nDr. Michael Londesborough\, Ph.D. is a British scientist working at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic\, where he focuses on research into boron compounds. He has won three prizes for Czech / Slovak young inorganic chemists\, collaborates on projects with the British Council in Prague and on popularization projects for the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic\, Czech Television and the National Technical Museum. He focuses on making science accessible to the general public\, teaching young people\, and strengthening international relations between young scientists (FameLab competition). It invites the audience into a multi-sensory labyrinthine of interconnected worlds to unravel a story which weaves together diverse insights into our relationship with the biosphere.  \nStarting with the fundamental idea that we need to shift away from a narrative of human dominion and independence in order to protect the biosphere\, installations explore: the necessity of living soil; the perpetual migration of species; the cascading threat of impending extinctions; ways to reconnect with nature; conflict arising from depleted resources; the future of cities and how humans will live within them. From the perspectives of insects and animals\, through the eyes of scientists\, artificial intelligence\, plant life\, ancient cultures and conflicting contemporary viewpoints; Terra Nexus is a wormhole of ideas. \nWarping sensory experiences\, excavating\, weaving between co-existing timelines and suggesting alternative histories; this is the first of a series of immersive projects by Proposition Studios asking the viewer to raise their own questions about THE HUMAN AS PART OF ECOLOGY and what that means today and for future generations. \nIn preparation for this project the exhibiting artists took part in an intensive research residency\, visiting sites where human intervention has dramatically increased biodiversity while providing for human needs: Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden in Devon\, Knepp Rewilding in Sussex and Prof. Wolfe’s Wakelyns Agroforestry in Suffolk while also meeting the renowned science writer and trailblazing food campaigner Colin Tudge in Oxford. \nThese world experts who are working to regenerate landscapes and address global food problems have inspired artworks that respond to their cutting edge science\, ecological agriculture\, environmental activism and deeply researched and practical ideas.

DESCRIPTION:The Czech Centre London has partnered with Prague’s Švanda Theatre and theaitre.com to present to the UK public an innovate project entitled ‘AI: When a Robot Writes a Play’ created by a team of computer scientists and drama experts led by a computational linguist. \n\n\n\nThe play\, telling a story of joy and sorrow of everyday life from a robot’s point of view\, is composed of dialogues generated by artificial intelligence to celebrate 100th anniversary of the premiere of Czech playwright Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R. in which the word ‘robot’ was first used.The 60-minute play will be performed in Czech with English subtitles and followed by a debate with artificial intelligence and theatre experts which will seek to answer the question of whether a robot can write a theatre play and thus pass the most difficult Turing test to date. The debate will be translated into English for international audiences.The event will be streamed live on the Czech Centre London’s Facebook page and on http://www.theaitre.com \n\n\n\nABOUT THE PROJECT \n\n\n\nTomáš Studeník\, Czech radical innovator\, came up with the idea to celebrate the centenary of the premiere of Čapek’s play\, originally staged in Prague in January 1921\, by replacing Čapek by artificial intelligence as the playwright. The project was created in cooperation with the Švanda Theatre\, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University and the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The aim has been to explore how artificial intelligence actually performs in a human creative discipline and how much it is able to create a usable theatrical script. \n\n\n\nDrama expert David Košťák who\, together with computer scientists\, oversaw the entire process\, reveals the beginning of the project when the language model was given basic parameters: who and where and two introductory replicas. These were then further developed by the computer. But as a lifeless beginner playwright\, the robot needed help from humans. ‘Sometimes it swapped female and male characters or clung to something irrelevant so the dialogue lost its meaning. And there is one more obstacle the robot is having difficulties with so far – the subtext. DESCRIPTION:EUNIC London\, the Czech Centre London and the Austrian Cultural Forum present the new EUNIC AI Science Café Series aiming to present current and timely topics alongside the proposals for innovative\, bold and inspirational solutions to tackle key issues. The contributors are experts from the EUNIC member states\, many of whom represent international teams and their counterparts from the United Kingdom. \nThe first talk invites you to learn more about the ethical impact of the use of artificial intelligence with philosophers & AI experts Janina Loh\, Charlotte Stix and Dita Malečková. The virtual event will be chaired by Erin Young from The Alan Turing Institute. \nOur world increasingly relies on complex automated systems\, algorithmic calculations and data. We are surrounded by smart technologies and robots. AI is part of our everyday lives and shapes crucial processes in our society. It recommends us to watch a new television series\, provides us with driving instructions\, vacuum cleans our floors or decides what grades we get. \nBut how biased is AI? How can scientist ensure that AI doesn’t disadvantage or negatively impact certain communities or minorities? What legal and ethical framework is necessary to guarantee that the values implemented in robotic systems benefit everyone?
