SUMMARY:Habitus
DESCRIPTION:A new interactive\, close-proximity performance which explores the nuances of modern intimacy. \nInspired by Lauren Berlant’s scholarship\, Intricate Theatre’s debut production Habitus is a provocative enquiry into our collective appreciation of what intimacy is\, and where it might be found. Are GP appointments intimate? Can we have an intimate relationship with lipstick? Can real intimacy be established between performer and audience member? What is ‘real’ intimacy? \nIntricate Theatre is formed of three Theatre and Performance students who aim to open conversations and broaden audience’s perceptions of everyday experiences by exploring them in theatrical contexts. Using their backgrounds in performance research and their talents in drama\, dance and music\, they strive to create bold\, thoughtful and joyous work. \nYou are invited to join them at their first work-in-progress production where you are encouraged to drink\, laugh\, sing and open yourselves up to the potential of establishing real intimacy.

SUMMARY:The Book of Mormon
DESCRIPTION:After stunning audiences on both Broadway and the West End\, winning 9 Tony Awards – including Best Musical – and even winning a Grammy award for the soundtrack\, The Book of Mormon is rapidly becoming a theatrical phenomenon. Comedy duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone – the geniuses behind the animated hit South Park – joined forces to create this hilarious musical that breathes three-dimensional\, all-singing\, all-dancing life into the absurdities of Mormon dogma\, whilst simultaneously being incredibly rude\, potentially offensive and above all\, unexpectedly endearing. \nThe musical tells the story of two Salt Lake City Mormons sent as missionaries to Uganda\, hoping for a few baptisms and a couple of conversions. Instead\, they are welcomed by some very harsh realities and a particularly unpleasant warlord. The lyrics are guaranteed to have you weeping with laughter\, and you’ll almost certainly be humming the music by Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez for weeks after. It’s fun\, lightweight\, but thought-provoking\, too; addressing everything from consumerism to religion\, The Book of Mormon is a musical like no other. Its staggering and well-deserved success make it a real must-see. \n \n“The most cryingly good night out to have come along in years.” – The Observer \n“It’s simply a work of genius\, so brilliantly conceived and executed that it makes astonishingly savage and sophisticated satire into joyous\, hilarious\, literally all-singing\, all-dancing fun and glamour.” – The Guardian \n“Trey Parker and Matt Stone might just be the saviours of the modern musical. The result isn’t just great: it’s monumental” ★★★★★ – Huffpost Comedy \n  \n  \nVideo Staring Neil Patrick Harris \n \n  \n \nTickets selling until September shows.

SUMMARY:Little Death Club
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the darkest\, funniest and most debauched kabarett club this side of Berlin! \nFollowing a smash-hit run at the Edinburgh Fringe\, über-award-winning kabarett superstar Bernie Dieter and her travelling family of misfits\, miscreants and fantastic freaks are back for an unmissable night in the Spiegeltent. \nA gin soaked\, Weimar-punk jazz band\, breathtaking circus and fire-breathing sideshows – this is kabarett at its most inappropriate and provocative. Welcome to the Little Death Club where you can be whoever you want to be… \n‘It might just be the best night you have in 2019’\n★★★★★ The Reviews Hub \n‘Red-Hot Cabaret’\n★★★★ Time Out \n‘Deliciously Wicked’\n★★★★★ Boyz Magazine

SUMMARY:Bassem Youssef - Live in London
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This performance will take place completely IN ENGLISH. \nThis event is presented by AlHudood شبكة الحدود and supported by MARSM UK. \nAfter a long career as a respected heart surgeon\, Bassem Youssef has become one of the most influential and poignant satirists and political commentators from the Middle East. He shot to fame after treating the wounded during the Arab Spring in 2011\, when his online comedy show went viral. Dubbed the Jon Stewart of the Arab world\, his witty commentary and famous satirical news TV show El Bernameg has spread far beyond his home country of Egypt. Youssef hosted the digital series “The Democracy Handbook” for Fusion network\, hosted the International Emmy Awards Gala of 2015\, starred in the internationally renowned documentary “Tickling Giants” and appeared twice as a Senior Middle East Correspondent on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. \nA mixture of stand-up and story-telling\, his debut London performance which takes the form of a one man show performed completely in English. Hear about his personal journey from being a heart surgeon\, to a TV show host\, to an accused traitor and spy\, to a refugee who had to flee the Arab world only to arrive in the United States as Trump gets elected president. Heartfelt and funny\, this unique show touches on media\, propaganda\, conspiracy theories and the plight of being an outsider in a new and suspicious society. \nFollowing the event\, we will be hosting a meet and greet reception with Bassem Youssef\, including drinks and nibbles as well as a chance to speak to the man himself. For a chance to experience this unique opportunity\, please purchase the Meet and Greet add-on ticket in addition to your general admission tickets. \nThis event\, in support of AlHudood شبكة الحدود’s work. \n***\nLaunched in 2013\, AlHudood شبكة الحدود is an Onion-style newspaper using satirical commentary to comment on news in the Middle East. Run by a group of like-minded and light-hearted young creatives\, its witty content mocks social habits\, outdated traditions\, political personae and religious clerics. The Guardian described Al Hudood as using “black humour to take aim at the region’s absurdities”.
