SUMMARY:Gemini New Moon Womens Circle – In Person – The Merit Club
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS EVENT\nAfter our hugely successful virtual Women’s Circles\, we’re delighted to present our first in-person gathering to hold an extraordinary Ceremonial Circle to celebrate the New Moon in Gemini. Astrologically\, this is one of the biggest events of the year\, as\, on the same day as the New Moon on the 10th of June\, there will be a powerful Full Solar Eclipse. A solar eclipse reminds us we are both sovereign over our lives and subject to forces beyond our control\, and therefore\, life is a delicate\, graceful dance! \nThis marks a very opportune time to set powerful intentions\, using our imagination to dream BIG and work with the element of Air\, which Gemini represents\, to set our deepest wishes and desires off into the ether. \nOUR GUIDE\, MINAL BHANSALI\nMinal Bhanshali\, Founder of 7 Over 7 & Purpose Guide at Intuit Soul Salon.\nMinal is a trained yoga teacher\, meditation guide and purpose coach specialising in harnessing the energy of the chakra system.\nHaving explored many techniques for delving deeper into transformational self-development\, it is now her soul purpose to guide others on their own path to discovering their unique personal legend. \nThis gathering will be a sacred ceremony to co-create magical energy that is only possible when gathering in a circle. Minal will once again lead us through a distinct set of rituals\, only this time in person\, to help us reconnect with our powerful creative essence as women\, as sisters to hold space one another and to witness the unique beauty we each hold. \nWe’ll share stories\, make music and dance together whilst setting a special set of intentions and by sharing our most vulnerable and authentic selves in a sacred container. \nWhere & When:\nNear The Bandstand\, Regent’s Park\, London\nJune 10th 6 pm arrival\, 6:30 pm ceremony to commence. \nCircle etiquette:\nPlease arrive by 6 pm as we will be starting the ceremony promptly at 6:30 pm not to disrupt the energetic vibration of the circle.\nWe will be honouring ourselves and each other during this sacred practice\, so please kindly be mindful by limiting the use of phones and any other technology. \nBring your best\, most open\, vulnerable and authentic self\, and know that we will hold you in this loving container with all the other women gathering to celebrate one another! \nDresscode:\nGreen or white attire to channel the abundant Divine Feminine.\nPlease bring a shawl\, light jacket or jumper as it may get cooler as the sun begins to set.\nWe’re excited for you to join us!

Join us for one session or the whole day and start your journey towards a healthier you. \n\n\n\nTopics covered will include: \n\n\n\nMorning session: diet and exercise \n\n\n\n\nPersonalised nutrition\n\n\n\nExercise and diet\n\n\n\nWeight loss medicine\n\n\n\n\nAfternoon session: wellbeing \n\n\n\n\nOptimising sleep\n\n\n\nYour immune system\n\n\n\nHow to be happy\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nMorning session: Diet and exercise\, talks and speakers: \n\n\n\nPersonalised nutrition\n\n\n\nKate Bermingham\, Research Associate\, King’s College London \n\n\n\nWhat role does our individual microbiome play in shaping our unique responses to food relative to ‘what’ we eat\, ‘who’ we are and ‘how’ we eat? \n\n\n\nCan you outrun a bad diet?\n\n\n\nDylan Thompson\, Professor of Human Physiology\, University of Bath \n\n\n\nWhat is the role of exercise in keeping us healthy? Is it possible to eat a ‘poor’ diet\, with excess calories but offset it by increasing your physical exercise? \n\n\n\nNew obesity drugs- what’s the evidence?\n\n\n\nSimon Cork\, Senior Lecturer in Physiology\, Anglia Ruskin University \n\n\n\nSemaglutide (also known by brand names such as Wegovy and Ozempic) is a medication for type 2 diabetes that has recently been approved to treat obesity. Results have been dramatic\, showing a 15 per cent reduction in body weight over a year when combined with exercise and eating healthily. In this talk\, we’ll explore how this medication works\, what side effects it has and if it is really the solution to the obesity epidemic. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nAfternoon session: Wellbeing\, talks and speakers: \n\n\n\nOptimising Sleep: Unravelling the Neuroscience and enhancing sleep habits\n\n\n\nNicola Barclay\, Lecturer in Sleep Medicine\, the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute\, University of Oxford \n\n\n\nNicola Barclay will delve into the fascinating world of sleep\, exploring its intricate neuroscience\, the importance of sufficient sleep\, common sleep problems\, and evidence-based strategies to improve sleep quality. By combining research-based findings with therapeutic techniques\, she will provide practical insights for optimising sleep and its impact on overall well-being. \n\n\n\nYour immune system – Can it be “boosted”? If not\, why not?\n\n\n\nAl Edwards\, Associate Professor in Biomedical Technology\, University of Reading / Southampton \n\n\n\nAdvertisements are full of claims for ‘Immune Boosting’ products\, but is there any evidence that we can strengthen our body’s most fascinating system? We do know that vaccines work very well\, but at the same time find it very hard to measure the general status of our immune system; this makes it surprisingly difficult to know how to strengthen immunity through behaviour or nutrition. \n\n\n\nHow to be happy: all you need is stoicism?\n\n\n\nTim Lebon\, Accredited psychotherapist and author \n\n\n\nDid the Stoics in ancient Greece discover the psychology of a happy life over 2\,000 years ago\, and how are their teachings similar to modern approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nWho should attend? \n\n\n\nAnyone interested in health and well-being\, whatever your age or background. Hulačová’s innovative work bridges ecological themes with artistic experimentation\, offering a profound meditation on humanity’s bond with nature. \n\nHulačová contributes a series of striking concrete busts with honeycomb interiors\, created in collaboration with bees during their swarming season. These sculptures symbolize the ancient interconnection between humans and bees\, evoking a hybrid organism that reflects the porous relationship between body and consciousness. The pieces embody the exhibition’s theme of interwoven experiences across species\, exploring the shared psyche of all beings inhabiting a place. \nEach Place Its Own Mind engages with ideas from David Abram’s The Spell of the Sensuous (1996)\, reimagining humanity’s relationship with the natural world. It showcases an interdisciplinary mix of drawing\, sculpture\, film\, and installation\, addressing ecological\, cultural\, and ancestral narratives. Alongside Hulačová’s work\, the exhibition includes pieces by Mirtha Dermisache\, Noémie Goudal\, Sky Hopinka\, and others\, fostering a dialogue about the enchantment of the world and the interconnected web of existence. \nThe exhibition opens with a private view on 16 January 2025\, from 6-8 pm. \nAnna Hulačová (b. 1984\, Sušice\, Czech Republic) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts\, Prague (2012). She lives and works in Prague. Her work has been shown internationally\, including at the National Gallery\, Prague\, Czech Republic; Centre Pompidou\, Paris\, France; Baltic Triennial\, Vilnius\, Lithuania; Meyer Riegger\, Berlin\, Germany; and the Louis Vuitton Foundation\, Paris\, France. \n\nOpening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 6pm

SUMMARY:Holocaust Memorial Day: The Hungarian Dressmaker
DESCRIPTION:Marika\, a Hungarian widow dressmaker\, shelters a little Czech Jewish boy in her home on the Slovak-Hungarian border during the turbulent years of WW2 and the Wartime Slovak State. Based on Peter Krištúfek’s novel Emma and the Death’s Head and inspired by true events\, the screening marks the Holocaust Memorial Day. \n\nIt’s the 1940s. The Slovak state witnessed the rise of nationalism\, and it’s not an auspicious time for minorities. The turbulent social mood also impacts the widow Marika\, who loses her job in an Aryanised dressmaker’s shop. Given the increasing anti-Hungarian sentiment\, she shuts herself away\, particularly since she is also harbouring a little Jewish boy. Despite this\, she still finds herself singled out by two men: a German Nazi officer and a captain of Slovakia’s Hlinka Guard. This drama by Slovak director Iveta Grófová is an adaptation of the novella by Peter Krištúfek\, which conjures up the dramatic atmosphere of wartime Slovakia. The story of a fragmented era\, which forces the protagonists to confront complex dilemmas\, is told through words and powerful visual language. \nIveta Grófová\, Czech Republic/Slovakia\, 2024\, 129‘\nCast Alexandra Borbély\, Nico Klimek\, Milan Ondrík\, Alexander E. SUMMARY:JITR Jan: Empirical\, Pedro Velasco + Emily Tran
DESCRIPTION:EMPIRICAL @empiricalmusic \n\nFeaturing Nathaniel Facey (alto sax)\, Tom Farmer (double bass)\, Lewis Wright (vibraphone) and Shaney Forbes (drums)\, the quartet bonded through a sense of common purpose: “I’d never met guys who took it so seriously. The process of studying together is really what brought us together\, and we just carried on doing it” recalls Tom Farmer. Collective study and exploration have remained the bedrock of Empirical’s creative process and have seen the band assimilate influences from right across the rich history of jazz. While oblique harmonies\, translucent textures and jagged\, quick-shifting rhythms are the signposts of Empirical’s musical territory\, the band has not been afraid to explore other musical realms. Alongside their ceaselessly fearless creative fervour\, Empirical has established an instantly recognisable group sound rife with raw energy and roiling emotion. Despite the intellectualism often ascribed to jazz\, for Empirical\, it’s ultimately all about moving\, rather than impressing\, their audience. \n\nPEDRO VELASCO @pedrovelascomusic \n\nPedro Velasco is a London-based guitarist who specialises in improvised music. Born in Lisbon\, Portugal\, he began playing piano at age nine. Inspired by the Brazilian music he was surrounded by at home\, he picked up a guitar at age 12. Under the tutelage of renowned Portuguese guitarist Mario Delgado\, he began turning to the sounds of jazz and improvised music. He moved to London in 2003 to study at Middlesex University with Nikki Iles\, Chris Batchelor and Stuart Hall and in 2007\, he graduated with a first-class honours degree in Music (Jazz Performance). He performs prolifically across the UK and Europe with several projects\, including Harry Christelis and Pedro Velasco duo\, who recently released their debut album Scribbling to critical acclaim. He composes original material for his ensembles\, Pedro Velasco Trio\, Akimbo and Machimbombo and continues to explore other styles of music that champion interaction and personal expression.\n\n\nEMILY TRAN @emireallyhere \nEmily Tran is a pianist from South-East London who was inspired by the likes of Bud Powell\, Oscar Peterson\, Monk\, and Herbie Hancock. Developing her playing with Tomorrow’s Warriors\, she has played at many venues in London\, such as The Queen Elizabeth Hall\, Ronnie Scott’s and Brick Lane Jazz Festival. Influenced by many different genres of music\, she is currently at the Royal Academy of Music studying composition and will be debuting some new compositions for this performance. \nJazz Bands London

SUMMARY:Santi & Naz - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Santi and Naz are best friends living in a village in pre-partition India. One Sikh and one Muslim have little understanding of how religion will divide them. \nAs partition draws closer\, the girls remain oblivious to the spreading social unrest and violence. They’re too busy stealing books\, swimming in the lake and spying on Rahul (the local hottie). When Naz is betrothed to a tailor from the soon-to-be capital of Pakistan\, the threat of separation for the young women looms on the horizon. Bound by their love for each other\, we learn how far they will go to avoid the inevitable. \nSanti & Naz explores female friendship\, coming of age\, and coming out set against the backdrop of a country soon to be changed forever.
