SUMMARY:FRAME / REFRAME: Zine Making & Inner Weather with Clare Macdonald
DESCRIPTION:Connect with your inner self through guided meditation\, writing\, drawing and zine- making. \nAs we gather in the juniper-infused IMT Gallery\, this workshop offers an opportunity to notice your inner weather and begin to reframe your stories through writing\, meditation\, and zine-making\, setting intentions for the days ahead. \nIn uncertain times\, we carry protective beliefs\, inherited narratives\, and quiet fears. But what happens when we pause to notice these internal frames—and begin to reframe them? \nFRAME / REFRAME is a group workshop that explores fear\, identity\, and perception through zine-making. In a reflective and supportive setting\, we’ll use writing prompts\, folding techniques\, and collage materials to each create an 8-page personal zine. \nNo prior experience in art or meditation is needed. This workshop offers a creative space for playful inquiry\, intuitive process\, and shared reflection. \nDrawing materials will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring any personal materials or collage elements that resonate with you to enrich your experience. \nA selection of herbal teas will be served throughout the evening. \nWhat We’ll Do: \n• We will begin with a guided meditation to check in with our inner state\n• Group writing prompts will help surface subconscious and conscious patterns • Learn to fold and assemble your own 8-page personal zine\n• Explore drawing\, collage\, and layering to express internal themes \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n• A collective reflection on what we have uncovered in the process \nThis workshop is open to all: artists\, writers\, deep feelers\, the zine-curious\, and anyone navigating emotional weather. No experience necessary. \nWhat You’ll Leave With: \n• A handmade 8-page zine capturing part of your inner landscape • A shared experience and creative reflection\n• A new way of seeing and shifting the stories we hold \nAbout Clare Macdonald: \nClare Macdonald is a filmmaker\, writer\, artist\, and educator whose work investigates perception\, language\, and inner states. With over a decade teaching and running workshops on the Architectural Association’s Foundation Course and Visiting Lecturer on the Screenwriting and Filmmaking MA programmes at London Film School\, Clare is a published poet and zine-maker\, member of the Zine You Next Tuesday collective formed from the Royal Drawing School’s Graphic Narratives course\, with three issues in circulation and a fourth forthcoming. \nReserve your spot for now for an evening of inspiration and connection. Concessions are available. \n\n\n\n\nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Life Drawing Creative Social - Automatism of Ithell Colquhoun (from £5)
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the first major exhibition of visionary artist Ithell Colquhoun that is currently on show at Tate Modern\, this is part 1 of our Ithell Colquhoun inspired series – and the theme is ‘Automatic Drawing and the Psychic Trace’. \n  \nAs a surrealist\, Colquhoun used automatism to bypass the conscious mind. Some prompts of purely automatic drawing techniques—eyes closed\, non-dominant hand\, continuous line and beyond —will be prepared to get everyone out of their logical brain to explore this creative process together. \n  \nThe goal isn’t an accurate drawing but a raw\, honest response to the moment\, capturing primal energy and subconscious impressions. The overarching focus would be The Magical Body: Drawing the Unseen; let’s approach the model not just as a physical form\, but as a vessel of psychic\, natural\, and magical energy. Let’s draw what is felt and intuited\, not just what is seen. \n  \nI hope you will be “freed” from your current drawing styles and success formula after this session\, just like how I felt after visiting the exhibition. \n  \nImage Credit: Ithell Colquhoun\, Gorgon (1946). Private Collection © Spire Healthcare\, © Noise Abatement Society\, © Samaritans \n  \nOur popular life drawing sessions have different themes every month. We create a welcoming and warm environment for all backgrounds\, demographics\, and skill levels at this creative social life drawing event to meet\, drink\, draw\, and create! We believe that art connects people\, and interactions improve creativity! \n  \nDate: 31 July\, 2025 (Thursday) \nTime: 7 – 9pm \nLocation: Firepit Art Gallery and Studios CIC10 Cutter Lane No.2 Greenwich Peninsula London SE10 0XX \nRundown: \nDoors open: 6.45pm \nLife drawing: 7 to 8:30pm (mix of short and long poses\, with short break) \nDoor close: 9pm \nHouse Rules: \n\nNO REFUNDS – Due to the amount of time and effort invested in event planning\, we are unable to give refunds for this event.\nBook ASAP – Tickets are usually sold out before the event\, so please book online for you and your friends in advance.\nSome basic drawing materials and paper will be available for free but if you wish to bring your own sketchbooks and materials please do!. SUMMARY:Women in Focus: Sara Polak
DESCRIPTION:The guest of the next edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series will be Sara Polak\, an archaeologist\, evolutionary anthropologist\, and technology innovator whose work bridges the humanities and cutting-edge AI research. \nPolak is a co-founder of the Mobilis Institute and the blockchain educational platform ShellProof\, a Visiting Research Fellow and part-time lecturer at the University of Oxford\, and leads the CCHAOS Research group at the Faculty of Information Technology\, Czech Technical University. Her focus lies in the digitisation of cultural heritage and the simulation of civilisational dynamics. Having spent much of her career in the UK and the USA tech sectors\, Polak is passionate about connecting modern technologies with the humanities. She has been named on Forbes’ 30 Under 30\, was recognised as a Top Innovator (2022)\, and received the Business Revolution Award from the UK Department for International Trade. She believes that only through education and interdisciplinary collaboration can humanity fulfil its potential — and perhaps one day survive on Mars. She explores these ideas through the Civilisational Resilience think tank\, which she co-founded. \nIn her talk Archaeology and AI: the last hope for our survival?\, Sara Polak will explore how civilisational resilience — the ability of societies to endure\, adapt\, and thrive through both crises and everyday pressures — increasingly depends on the synergy between technology and the humanities. She will examine how artificial intelligence and archaeology can enrich our understanding of past societies and offer strategies for a more sustainable future. By combining AI-driven archaeological research with humanistic insight\, we can preserve cultural heritage\, learn from historical adaptations\, and help shape ethical\, resilient technologies for generations to come. \nAdmission: £5 (+ Eventbrite fee)\nBook Here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-in-focus-sara-polak-tickets-1372620447709?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Adventures in Arts Based Research: Reimagining Horizons by Professor Kitrina Douglas
DESCRIPTION:In this inaugural lecture\, I journey through a landscape that has shaped and challenged my research over the past twenty years. This is a terrain marked by many peaks and plenty of deep ravines and cliff edges. How do we tell the stories of those who have no power? How do we understand and communicate difficult or impossible experiences to narrate in words? What are the consequences for our society and culture when research omits somatic or pre-linguistic ways of knowing? How may we stand with participants by including our own experiences and vulnerabilities? How can we conduct research with – not on – others? \nAbout the Speaker: \nBefore entering academia\, Kitrina played international amateur golf\, representing England and Great Britain\, before joining the professional ranks\, where she played on the European tour. Among her dozen or so titles are twice winning the European Masters Championships\, the English Open Championships\, and she was a member of the first winning European Solheim Cup team. She spent a decade working in television and radio\, first with the BBC Radio Five Live outside broadcasting team\, and then with Eurosport presenting programs in Paris.

SUMMARY:Women in Focus: Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová
DESCRIPTION:The next edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series takes a unique turn—this time delving into the deeply personal and spiritual. Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová\, author\, shamanic practitioner\, Blue Badge guide\, and anthropology student\, shares her transformative journey from illness and emotional struggle to healing and empowerment. Through sensitivity\, ritual\, and connection\, she redefines what it means to thrive in today’s world. \nAbout Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová\n\nJuliet left the Czech Republic at 19 and spent two decades in London after a few years in Berlin. Her lifelong sensitivity\, once a burden\, became a strength during a deep “alchemical journey of metamorphoses.” This is also the subtitle of her second book\, Cesta (ne)mocné Londýňanky (The Journey of a Power(less) Londoner)\, which explores trauma\, healing\, and shamanic calling. Her London life included work in Wandsworth prison and as a Blue Badge guide. With degrees in Social and Medical Anthropology from Goldsmiths and UCL\, her study focused on consciousness\, ecofeminism\, and ritual. Her first book\, Myslet srdcem (Thinking with the Heart)\, became a Czech bestseller. About the Theme of the Evening – An Empath’s Journey from Rags to RichesIn this edition of the Czech Centre’s Women in Focus series\, Juliet Vopěnka Navrátilová offers a profoundly personal and spiritual reflection on living with extreme sensitivity. Her “shamanic illness” became the turning point that redirected her path—from illness and emotional struggle to healing\, empowerment\, and purpose. In this context\, “rags to riches” refers not to material wealth but to emotional\, mental\, and spiritual abundance gained through self-understanding. \nThrough travels in Latin America and participation in shamanic ceremonies\, Juliet saw her empathic nature as a gift rather than a burden. Empaths—highly sensitive\, neurodiverse individuals—often absorb others’ emotions unconsciously\, leading to exhaustion and illness. She now helps others reconnect with their intuition and inner power by embracing her sensitivity. As a shamanic practitioner\, she also energetically cleans homes and spaces. Her journey is one of transformation through ritual\, awareness\, and heart-centred connection. \nwww.thinkingwiththeheart.com\nwww.mysletsrdcem.cz

SUMMARY:Journey to Nutopia: Mutate & Survive 2025 - Talks
DESCRIPTION:Journey to Nutopia: Mutate & Survive 2025 \nBack after a two-year hiatus\, join us for an evening of talks and conversation about democratising democracy\, the latest on integrating psychedelic experiences\, tales from the counterculture\, and the magic of chocolate… \n  \nPSYCHEDELIC INTEGRATION//_PANEL:\nMICHELLE BAKER JONES/\nANYA OLEKSIUK\nGREG DONALDSON> \nJAMIE_KELSEY<ACTIVIST/_ONE_WORLD OR NONE_ \nANITA BRULEE – CHOCOLATE LOVE MEDICINE// \nRICHARD NORRIS – READS FROM STRANGE THINGS ARE HAPPENING_ \nHosted by Michelle Olley \n*** \nA lot has happened since Richard Norris and Michelle Olley launched Journey to Nutopia in 2018. Our founding motto – ‘refuting the inevitability of global dystopia’ isn’t getting any easier\, but that’s all the more reason to look for the places in our doom-flooded news environment where The Work is happening – so we’re going back to basics. \nThe first Journey to Nutopia was a three-day programme of talks\, spoken word and acid house as part of Birmingham’s Lunar Festival in 2018. Authors\, activists\, artists\, academics\, psychedelic researchers\, poets and DJs came together to boost ‘positive future narratives that refute the inevitability of a global dystopia’. It was pure joy. \nWe are delighted to kick off our 2025 calendar with the return of some of our original guests from that line-up. Two of our speakers were Dr Ros Watts and Michelle Baker Jones – who\, as part of a series of trials with Prof. David Nutt\, were investigating the value of integrating psilocybin into mental health treatments. Psychological therapist Michelle joins us again to delve deeper into where that research has brought us in 2025 as part of a panel that includes PsyAware co-founder Anya Oleksiuk and psychotherapist and Psychedelic CPD Events founder Greg Donaldson. \nJamie Kelsey is always where it’s at. Longtime civil rights and climate activist and founding Nutopian\, Jamie will be talking about his latest initiative\, One World or None\, which combines his work as one of the people behind the scenes in XR/Just Stop Oil/A22 with being the co-founder of the world’s only Global Citizens’ Assembly. Richard Norris will read a passage from his beats-infused memoir Strange Things Are Happening (White Rabbit) to honour our acid house beginnings. Plus\, Chocolate Love Medicine’s Anita Brulee shares her wisdom on the healing properties of Mama Cacao.

SUMMARY:Czech Documentary Now: War Correspondent
DESCRIPTION:Heartfelt radio reports from a steadfast\, award-winning war correspondent provide a close view of the resilient daily lives of Ukrainian civilians who remain rooted in their homes amid constant explosions. \n\nWar Correspondent offers an intimate and gripping look at the human side of war through the lens of Martin Dorazín\, a seasoned Czech Radio journalist. Reporting from the front lines of Ukraine\, Martin’s heartfelt stories reveal the resilience\, pain\, and hope of civilians living amid devastation. \nAlongside Oleg\, a Ukrainian baker\, priest\, and humanitarian\, Martin navigates chaos\, offering aid and documenting lives disrupted by conflict. With no reliable internet\, electricity\, or information\, his work becomes a lifeline for voices that might otherwise go unheard. \nRather than focusing on military victories\, War Correspondent captures the human spirit in adversity—a story of strength\, compassion\, and unity. Through Martin’s empathetic perspective\, we witness the extraordinary courage of individuals who refuse to abandon their homes\, even as explosions echo around them. \nDavid Čálek\, Benjamin Tuček\, Czech Republic\, Slovakia\, Ukraine 2024\, 78 mins  \nBest Documentary Feature Award at the 2024 Warsaw Film Festival.\nhttps://www.valecnyzpravodaj.cz/en   \nABOUT MARTIN DORAZÍN\nMartin Dorazín is a distinguished war correspondent who sees his frontline work as a mission rather than just a profession. Reporting for Czech Radio since 1990\, with a six-year stint at Czech Television (1998–2004)\, he has earned a reputation for his fearless and objective coverage. In September 2014\, Dorazín and colleague Vít Pohanka were briefly detained by pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk\, Ukraine. Two years later\, in May 2016\, he received the Karel Havlíček Borovský Award for his exceptional reporting from war and crisis zones. In January 2022\, Dorazín departed from Warsaw for Ukraine\, arriving in Mariupol just before the conflict erupted. He documented the war’s onset and stayed through its most intense fighting for a year\, becoming one of the last journalists to leave the devastated city. In October 2022\, he became Czech Radio’s first permanent correspondent in Ukraine\, and in February 2023\, he was honored with the prestigious Ferdinand Peroutka Journalism Award \nAdmission: £5 \nAdmission Link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/czech-documentary-now-war-correspondent-tickets-1224830323469?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:David Burrows | Spooky Affects At A Distance
DESCRIPTION:IMT Gallery proudly presents Spooky Affects At A Distance\, a solo exhibition by David Burrows. Through fictional means\, the exhibition engages with contemporary politics and cultures and their aesthetics of appearance\, proposing a cosmopolitics modelled on the mysterious nature of black holes and derived from dreams\, mythology\, and Black Hole Ontology (being not as things appear). Featuring paintings\, drawings\, film\, and assemblages\, the exhibition draws on the concept of singularities\, their abstractive and transformative dynamics\, and their durations ruled by collapse and rejuvenation.
