SUMMARY:Darcey Steinke & Octavia Bright: Writing the Body in Pain
DESCRIPTION:Darcey Steinke’s This Is the Door: Notes from a Body in Pain is a profound and searching examination of pain\, moving organ by organ through the body (spine\, knees\, skin) while weaving together personal experience with literature\, art\, and medicine. From surgery to pilgrimage\, from Frida Kahlo’s pain diaries to encounters with physicians\, Steinke asks: what does pain do to us\, and what might it make possible? She is joined by Octavia Bright\, whose memoir\, This Ragged Grace\, charts a different yet equally visceral journey through addiction\, recovery\, and renewal.

SUMMARY:Reframing dementia\, distress and inpatient care
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the University of West London on May 14\, 2026\, at 6:00 PM for an inspiring talk from Professor Emma Wolverson. Professor of Ageing and Dementia at the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory. \nAs a clinical academic\, my programme of research challenges negative perceptions of dementia by focusing on people’s strengths and by supporting the clinical teams who care for them. My goal is to empower teams to develop and deliver evidence-based care to improve experiences and outcomes for people living with dementia and their families\, enabling health and social care professionals to respond to an individual’s needs with skill and empathy. My research programme draws on positive psychology to deliver this evidence. Building on these foundations\, my current National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded research programme focuses on the dementia crisis – particularly when a crisis leads to an emergency admission within an inpatient mental health ward\, a setting which cares for the most unwell\, vulnerable\, and high-risk people living with dementia. Being admitted can be frightening and overwhelming for both the person and their family. Stays are often long\, and many people do not return home afterwards.

SUMMARY:Tweed Run London - Saturday 18th April
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 18 April 2026\, The Tweed Run returns to London\, transforming the city’s streets into a moving tableau of beautifully dressed cyclists\, rolling past some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks. Hundreds of riders\, impeccably turned out\, come together for one of London’s most visually striking and culturally distinctive events. \nNow in its 18th year\, The Tweed Run is a celebration of modern nostalgia – an event that invites people to step away from screens\, slow the pace\, and reconnect through a shared experience. It blends heritage style with contemporary values\, championing slow fashion\, sustainability and the simple pleasure of riding together through the city. \nParticipants are encouraged to dress with creativity\, pairing tailoring\, texture and personal expression with the timeless form of the bicycle. Many riders take to the streets on beautifully built Pashley bicycles – the iconic British manufacturer celebrating its centenary year in 2026 – creating a fitting tribute to the enduring relationship between craftsmanship\, design and the joy of cycling. The result is a day that feels cinematic\, joyful and quietly rebellious – a reminder that style can be thoughtful\, and that community still matters. \nAt its heart\, The Tweed Run is about getting offline\, gathering together\, and creating something that feels both timeless and relevant – evoking the camaraderie of years gone by\, while reflecting modern attitudes towards fashion\, sustainability and how we choose to show up in the world.

SUMMARY:Chasing Parasites: The Science Behind the Leishmaniasis Scar

You’ll spend 45–60 minutes in stillness\, lying down\, fully immersed in the sound and vibrations of a variety of instruments\, including: \n\n2 Gongs (30″ Earth Gong + 36″ Paiste Symphonic Gong)\nHimalayan Singing Bowls\nShamanic Drum\nOcean Drum\nThunder Drum\nChime Bells\n…and many more percussive instruments\, all designed to guide you on a deep inner journey and facilitate experiences of altered states of consciousness (ASC).\n\nWhat to bring: \n\nComfortable\, warm clothing\nYour own yoga mat and blanket (a few mats and blankets are available in the studio if you forget or can’t bring your own\, on a first-come\, first-served basis)\nA pillow\, if desired\, for extra comfort while lying down\n\nSpace etiquette: \n\nThe studio is a non-speaking space. During sign-in\, participants can ask any questions\, which will be answered by a team member. Once inside the studio\, participants are invited to lay down or sit quietly on their mat and enter a personal inner journey — relaxing\, tuning down\, letting the day dissolve\, and beginning the healing process.\nIf anything comes up during the session\, participants may quietly refer to me or let me know\, but please keep your voice low so as not to disturb others.\nPlease turn off your phones before entering to maintain a quiet\, undisturbed environment.\nAllow in any sounds from the surroundings during the Gong Bath. For example\, if a fellow participant snores or makes other sounds\, consider them part of the immersive experience and let them flow with the vibrations of the session.\n\nIncense: Light incense may be used to engage your senses and enhance the experience. If you would prefer not to have incense\, please let me know in advance so accommodations can be made. \nThis session is designed to help you connect deeply with your inner peace\, sense of calm\, and overall wellbeing. Whether you’re new to sound healing or a regular practitioner\, this is a unique opportunity to reset your mind\, body\, and spirit. \nBOOKINGS:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/gong-bath-between-sound-stillness-consciousness-tickets-1916108765899?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl
