SUMMARY:Blazin' Fiddles - Concert
DESCRIPTION:Take the finest exponents of their native Scottish fiddle styles\, the finest backing in folk music\, and some of the Highlands and Islands’ famed warmth and craic… distil over 25 years\, and you get Blazin’ Fiddles! \n  \nOne of the most lauded and best-loved acts of the Scottish music scene\, from the moment the multi-award-winning Blazers take the stage to whisk you on a thrilling musical journey\, you’re in the finest of company. Atop many musical twists and turns\, the group’s quicksilver playing is matched by lightning-sharp humour and uproarious stories from their many tunes and travels; whatever the hall – whether of the Royal Albert or highland village variety – they’ll turn it into the liveliest and warmest of hootenannies. \n  \nBook Scottish Musicians in London for Private Events

SUMMARY:Rust رَست concert
DESCRIPTION:Beyond 1932 Residency:  Rust رَست \nRust will perform their unreleased album ‘Masar’\, a musical interpretation of poetry by the talented Lebanese poet Jana Salloum. Jana’s poetry explores the path of the Arab woman\, delves into her world\, raises existential questions\, and addresses the battle for identity. Rust interpreted the poem with rich melodies\, intriguing rhythms\, and a harmonious blend of electronic and traditional elements. The album invites the listener to experience the diverse\, powerful emotions it evokes and the meaning behind the advocacy it leads. Petra’s vocals captivate the senses\, and the warm tones of Hany’s Oud add depth and authenticity to each track. The second part of the performance\, “Electric Wasla”\, is 30 30-minute set customized for this event. This segment is based on the traditional Arabic musical form ‘Wasla’\, consisting of several related classical compositions and improvisations based on the same Maqam. \nRim Irscheid organises this event and is part of six residencies with the ERC/UKRI-funded project Beyond 1932: Rethinking Musical Modernity in the Middle East and North Africa (1932 MUSCON). The EPSRC funds the project via the UKRI/EC HE Guarantee ERC scheme (funder Award Reference: EP/X022749/1) and is based at the Music Department of King’s College London. \nAbout Rust رَست: \nRust is a Prague-based duo whose music blends the Arabic heritage of melody and poetry with a modern electronic sound. Combining elements of Arabic music with contemporary production and powerful vocals\, Rust draws influence from the older generation of musical rebels\, aiming to bridge the gap between legacy and modernity.\nThe project was cofounded in Beirut in 2020 by: \nPetra Hawi – a Lebanese musician and vocalist\nHany Manja is a Syrian musician\, Oud player\, and electronic music producer. \n  \nHire Middle Eastern and Arabic Musicians for Events in the UK.

SUMMARY:Unravel - Live Music
DESCRIPTION:The fourth Unravel event sees the Deptford-based\, multi-disciplinary collective of artists expand their curation of experimental pop music acts\, inspired by the theme ‘Natural Blue’.\n\nUnravel was formed by four Deptford-based artists exploring the fusion of electronic music and video work. Born out of a desire to find a safe space for experimentation and blurring of medium boundaries\, the events offer an opportunity to engage in a unique and singular performance – allowing the performing artists to respond to the space and to one another’s work. Previous performances came from founding members Semi Precious and JL Segel\, accompanied by original visual work from Yasmin Vardi. The upcoming event expands its curation\, giving stage to bold\, experimental pop acts REINEN\, Ammonite and Hudson Scott in response to Vardi’s visual theme\, ‘Natural Blue’. \nREINEN\, an alumnus of the mercurial Paul Institute\, is a genre-bending art-pop project. She uses multiple media to frame her music\, which will come to be known as REINEN Realms. \nAmmonite is a project by songwriter-producer Amy Spencer. The artist explores the contrast between masculine and feminine\, manmade and organic\, technology\, and the female voice\, where soft vocals meet electronic processing. The lines influence Ammonite and Vardi’s visual collaboration in the Deptford river beds\, intimacy\, and the colour blue. \nHudson Scott builds textural compositions and improvisations using trumpet and synthesizers. His work blurs the lines between drone\, jazz\, minimalism\, and song to explore expressive and emotional motifs. \n\n  \nFor ages 14+\nTickets £10 ‐ £12\nConcessions £10\nLength 3 hours

SUMMARY:CHRIS COHEN + LARGE PLANTS - Concert
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nCHRIS COHEN\nLARGE PLANTS\nTuesday 19 November\n100 Club\, 100 Oxford St\, Oxford Street\, W1D 1LL\n7.30pm | £14 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/ob8ce6dd7dbc \nCHRIS COHEN was always a quiet kid. This introversion was one reason he began playing music as a toddler—to communicate without speaking to identify with others without directly representing words. It has worked\, too\, with Cohen’s terrific stint in the mighty Deerhoof and his captivating art-rock act The Curtains\, preceding production and session work for the likes of Weyes Blood\, Kurt Vile\, Le Ren\, and Marina Allen. Somewhere along that long way\, Cohen started writing lyrics. He found that\, though it didn’t come naturally\, the process offered a new sense of self-discovery and reckoning\, a way to see himself and the world from unexpected angles. His three twilit albums of casually complicated pop during the last decade radiated these epiphanies: handling family strife\, navigating advancing age\, and understanding social woes. \nBut Cohen has never had as much to sing so directly as he does on ‘Paint a Room’\, his first album in five years and his debut for Hardly Art. Suppose Cohen’s meanings have previously lurked inside the tessellated musical layers he built alone. In that case\, they are newly clear and resonant here\, animated and underscored for the first time by a band playing in real-time. There is the endless miasma of state violence on the subversively melodious opener “Damage\,” the existential exhaustion of modernity on the horn-traced jangle “Laughing”. With ‘Paint a Room’\, Cohen’s music feels like a warm spring breeze\, easy to love and gentle to feel. But it often carries something heavy\, as if it is blowing in from some unseen storm cloud. \nhttps://chriscohen.bandcamp.com \nLARGE PLANTS is the hauntological fuzz-rock project of Jack Sharp\, former singer-guitarist from psych-folk luminaries Wolf People. In 2022 the band dropped an acid-rock cover of Madonna’s ‘La Isla Bonita’ on the Ghost Box label\, followed swiftly by their debut LP ‘The Carrier’\, described by Shindig as “A succinct distillation of folk-rock magnificence”. Now a formidable live act\, having toured with Mudhoney and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Large Plants are currently working on their third album.\nhttps://largeplantsband.bandcamp.com/album/the-death-of-pliny-digital-single \n

SUMMARY:XIU XIU + EVICSHEN + JOHN LEE BIRD & FABRIZIO MODONESE PALUMBO
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nXIU XIU\nEVICSHEN\nJOHN LEE BIRD & FABRIZIO MODONESE PALUMBO\nTuesday 19 November\nHeaven\, Under The Arches\, Villiers Street\, London\, WC2N 6NG (14 +\, under 16s accompanied by an adult)\n7pm-10.30pm | £16 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Wbcbd06fdcd1 \nXIU XIU is the conduit for the uncompromising and unnervingly personal musical works of Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Jamie Stewart\, plus a roll call of collaborators both in the studio and onstage. Streaming forth a ceaseless torrent of releases\, side projects\, art offerings and extensive international touring since 2002\, Xiu Xiu’s music has veered from damaged avant-pop to artfully orchestrated rock\, squalls of black-hearted noise and most bases around and between\, ever-served with bruising honesty and intensity that has ripped out the hearts of a legion of obsessive listeners. \n13″ Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips (Polyvinyl Records) is the newest record from Xiu Xiu\, but only on the face of it. Underneath that face\, the ligaments and struggles of a need that seeks to name itself over every record and every song on every record\, ever written by Xiu Xiu\, of course. Nine songs to seal the deal for those who will still listen to all nine songs in order because an album is a message that can’t be read piecemeal. Mixed by John Congleton with a band-directed mandate that he should feel free to both “go crazy” and if there was ever any doubt as to what that meant please\, by all means “choose iconoclasm.”\nhttp://www.xiuxiu.org/ \n  \nEVICSHEN\, aka Victoria Shen\, is a sound artist\, experimental music performer\, and instrument-maker based in San Francisco. Shen’s sound practice concerns the spatiality/physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body. Her music features analogue modular synthesizers\, vinyl/resin records\, and self-built electronics. Eschewing conventions in harmony and rhythm in favour of extreme textures and gestural tones\, Shen uses what she calls “chaotic sound” to oppose signal and information\, eluding traditionally embedded meaning. \nhttps://evicshen.com/ \nJOHN LEE BIRD & FABRIZIO MODONESE PALUMBO present themselves as a queer duo of narrative words and soundscapes with an upcoming album featuring collaborations with Simon Fisher Turner\, Xiu Xiu\, Paul Beauchamp and Julia Kent and the recent EP “Some Time Spent There”\, featuring actor/flute player Francesca Sebastian Puopolo\, who also performs live with them. \nhttps://fabriziomodonesepalumbo.bandcamp.com/album/some-time-spent-there \n  \nLive Music Concerts and Gigs in London

SUMMARY:Shannon and the Clams + Mock Media + Pozi - Live Bands
DESCRIPTION:-Upset The Rhythm presents… \nSHANNON AND THE CLAMS\nMOCK MEDIA\nPOZI\nTuesday 5 November\nIslington Assembly Hall\, Upper St\, London\, N1 2UD\n7pm | £20 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/i36cc53102af \nSHANNON AND THE CLAMS are from Oakland\, California and comprise of Shannon Shaw (vocals\, bass)\, Cody Blanchard (vocals\, guitar)\, and Ian Amberson (drums\, vocals). Sounding like a prom band from 1964 getting dosed with acid and having the sweetest lovelorn freakout\, Shannon And The Clams defy expectations. Imagine a brawling Etta James\, backed up by the 13th Floor Elevators\, singing Shangri La’s tunes. Shannon has a voice that can go from a sweet girl group croon to a bluesy\, ballsy growl before you realize you’re headed for the (dance) floor. It’s total punk rock bop\, brimming with doo-wop glory delivered to your door by the Homecoming Queen and Kings of weirdo rock ‘n’ roll. \nShannon & The Clams’ sonics go from black and white to technicolour on their new album\, The Moon Is In the Wrong Place\, produced by longtime collaborator Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Faced with the unimaginable sudden loss of Shannon’s fiancé\, the project is a holistic exploration of grief and celebration of life coupled with the most expansive\, exciting songs and arrangements of their celebrated catalogue. The Moon Is In the Wrong Place marks Shannon & The Clams’ 7th studio album together and is now via Easy Eye Sound. \nhttp://shannonandtheclams.com/ \nMOCK MEDIA\, Canada’s new supergroup\, contains members Evan Aasen (Painted Fruits)\, Garnet Aronyk Muhammad (Crack Cloud)\, Austin Boylan (Pottery)\, and Bennett Smith (N0V3L). Mock Media originated in Vernon\, British Columbia\, a small farming town surrounded by a blue lake and majestic mountain ranges. Such wholesome beginnings naturally sparked a heady wanderlust and DIY spirit within its founding members.\nMock Media’s debut LP Mock Media II\, out Nov 17th\, captures this firebrand four-piece’s head-on plunge into enthralling existential contradictions: songs that explore the darkest corners of humanity yet come out at the other end with the unwavering joy that marked their genesis. It’s an album of sneak eclecticism; the high-wired punk rock stylings serve as Mock Media’s framework to clad their agog explorations into pop\, electronic\, and world folk music.\nhttps://mockmedia.bandcamp.com/album/mock-media \nPOZI is a band that tackles the creative cycle of deconstruction and rebuilding with relish. The second album ‘Smiling Pools’ is a testament to that. An LP that sees them at their most expansive yet\, it follows a gradual swelling of their sound across two EPs preceding the urgent\, self-enforced minimalism of their debut album\, PZ1\, in 2019. The trio of Toby Burroughs\, Rosa Brook\, and Tom Jones quickly established something of a foundational template on that first album: a hyper-skeletal sound palette of drums\, bass and three distinct vocals disrupted by Rosa’s churning violins\, from which emerged biting social observations and political angst. These hallmarks haven’t fully gone away over time\, but from that urgent energy\, greater confidence\, and a playful desire to push further out of the loose genre tag of post-punk have emerged. \nhttps://poziband.bandcamp.com

SUMMARY:TYVEK + GEO + VIRVON VARVON
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nTYVEK\nGEO\nVIRVON VARVON\nWednesday 30 October\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £12 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/G309daf25a4e \nTYVEK has remained a singular force. The Detroit group formed somewhere in the mid-aughts by songwriter\, vocalist\, guitarist\, and sole consistent band member Kevin Boyer\, who enlisted various friends to cultivate a raw\, rudimentary punk sound that manages to get back to basics while at the same time presenting abstract perspectives and weird concepts not normally explored by your everyday garage band. There have been mutations over the years as the band toured regularly and released a run of solid albums with labels like Siltbreeze and In The Red\, but with every reformation\, Tyvek still didn’t sound quite like anyone else. Their new album\, the self-released Overground (Ginkgo\, 2023)\, stays true to their reputation for delivering hit after hit of blistering punk and remains tightly wound until it unspools into the dreamlike title track\, an extended post-Velvets plea for human decency. Tyvek’s current line-up of all-stars guarantees an intense live show: Shelley Salant (Shells\, XV)\, Alex Glendening (Deadbeat Beat)\, Fred Thomas (Idle Ray)\, and Emily Roll (XV) channel the high-energy rock’n’roll of Detroit’s past while side-stepping the cliches to push forward into an uncharted future.\nhttps://tyvek.bandcamp.com/ \nGEO are a no wave oddity from The Netherlands\, the more mismatched the moving parts appear\, the more their music starts to make sense. Since the Groningen quartet’s inception in 2019\, they have built a framework of skeletal agit-funk\, cartoonish chromatics and neoteric art punk vignettes – sketching negative spaces where chaos and cacophony can sound perplexingly catchy. ‘Out of Body’ – Geo’s long-awaited debut album was released on Erste Theke Tontraeger in April. Geo’s jitterbug\, birdbrained post-punk spiels are in the spirit of gung-ho deconstructionists like The Contortionists\, The Fall and Gang of Four. On ‘Out of Body’\, they play emotions out against each other like some kind of absurdist Punch and Judy show.\nhttps://geoband.bandcamp.com/ \nVIRVON VARVON are part-time punks from London\, featuring Black Time\, Midnight Mines and The Jazz June members. They’ve played Gonerfest in Memphis and Get Lost Festival in Hamburg and released an LP and two tapes on Girlsville Records.\nhttps://girlsville.bandcamp.com/album/virvon-varvon-four-bars-of-hate-2

SUMMARY:Indie Unplugged @ The Star In Shoreditch
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, 11th October\, at The Star in Shoreditch for a stacked line-up of independent acoustic music. Expect indie vibes stripped back & Acoustics.\n\n£8 Tickets Adv \n£10 OTD \nThe Outers:\nThe Outers are a London-based indie rock band. Their songs have a distinctive\, up-tempo rhythm section supporting catchy guitar and vocal melodies. “We try to incorporate the vintage sound and subtle melodies of British pop\, and the depth of Post Punk with the edge of electro-pop to add a bit of a dance groove.\nThe Outers found their style after mixing influences such as the Arctic Monkeys\, Metric\, Grimes\, Temples\, Editors\, Chvrches\, The Strokes\, The Killers\, Suede\, Coldplay\, Blondie\, and The Cure. \n\nStill Traffico\nStill Traffico is an independent Mancunian band formed in 2023 by school friends Cam McColl and Dan Carabine and their friend Dan Arthur in London. They love post-punk\, Chanson Francaise\, Michael Head’s entire discography\, and African desert blues. \n  \nCharlie Smith\nMy name might be common\, but my style is alternative. I’m Charlie Smith\, a raw\, honest singer-songwriter from Hampshire\, UK. I host and perform at my shows at venues such as The Railway Inn\, The Attic & The Arthouse. In October 2023\, I embarked on my first solo tour of northern England. My latest EP ‘Here He Comes Now’ was released on the 24th of May. Clocking in at just 10 minutes it is an express 5 Track acoustic punk EP. The theme of the EP is the idea that certain things cannot be erased or forgotten. The lyrics evoke feelings of introspection\, reflection\, and renewal as the individual grapples with their inner turmoil and seeks to find solace. All tracks were recorded on the Tascam Model 12 at my mini-home studio. Featuring a single mic technique with minimal effects to simulate an authentic\, intimate sound. \n\nParadise Taxi\nParadise Taxi is a fresh indie-rock-pop band based in London – implementing punchy alt-rock riffs and funky hooks\, curators of your next favourite tunes\, including ‘Getaway Driver’ and ‘Don’t be a Lover’. \n\nAndy Wilson\nAndy\, once an electric guitarist for several rock bands in the UK and Switzerland\, took a step back from music for a few years. However\, the lockdown gave him a fresh perspective and renewed his excitement for music. He dived into recording and music production and developed an appreciation for the acoustic and Spanish guitars\, all while incorporating synthesizers into his sound. Andy is now focusing on solo performances as a singer-songwriter\, featuring his compositions and cover songs.
