SUMMARY:Portobello Film Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:For more than three decades Portobello Film Festival has been celebrating independent film making and festival culture at the original epicentre of the British Underground. Free to enter and free to attend\, the festival is an annual reminder of a time when Ladbroke Grove was to London what San Francisco was to America. \nOne of this year’s highlights is a feature on Laura Del-Rivo\, Britain’s first female beatnik author whose debut novel provided the inspiration for Michael Winner’s West 11. Supplementing her income by trading on Portobello Road Market while continuing to write about the changing life of the neighbourhood\, she was affectionately known as “The Tights Lady”. \nA curated evening on 17 September is dedicated to Pink Floyd and to collective art-making. Original shorts from the late 60s are shown alongside a newly released documentary on The Exploding Galaxy\, a group of artists\, musicians\, poets and dancers with a shared creative spirit. \nOne Foot in the Grove revived the spirit of psychedelia\, punk and 80s graffiti with a spectacular display of murals\, giant sculptures and fire-breathing robots under the Westway in 2009. While most traces have long since disappeared\, a ceramic mural by Carrie Reichardt and the Treatment Rooms Collective remains as a permanent reminder. Members of the collective return with a group show at The Muse to run alongside Portobello Film Festival. The exhibition opening party on 10 September is accompanied by a screening of Vive Le Punk\, Danny Garcia’s documentary marking 50 years of punk by following four bands still active today. \nThe opening night at The Gate Picturehouse on 3 September is the only ticketed event. There is no need to book for more than 200 new films. Tomorrow’s cinema today – all free to attend!

SUMMARY:Nature Morte: The Extermination of Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:Nature Morte: The Extermination of Ukraine is the result of extensive research by British artist Piers Secunda. \nApproaching the deliberate destruction of cultural history and national identity through the depiction of traditional Ukrainian dishes and their ingredients\, at first sight Nature Morte is an exhibition of still lifes. Based on photographs taken by Secunda during visits to Ukraine in 2024 and 2026\, the paintings were made with ink he produced from charcoal gathered in Kharviv\, the site of the first Ukrainian Government building destroyed by Russia’s invasion in 2022. \nArranged as pyramids to reflect the power structures behind the kidnapping and forced military training of Ukranian children\, and the hierarchies behind the targeted bombing and systematic looting of cultural artefacts\, the paintings act as portals to an archive of evidence. Reached via QR codes\, the names and faces of the perpetrators are presented alongside extensive supporting material. \nThe exhibition is complemented by a map of more than five thousand points of damage to cultural sites recorded across Ukraine\, and a 40-minute documentary by Secunda’s long-term collaborator David Miller. \n  \nFor more details\, click HERE

SUMMARY:"La Matière du Rêve" Group Show
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Dorothy Circus Gallery brings together seventeen artists from across the globe\, united by a shared impulse to construct imaginative worlds shaped by folklore and mythology\, memory and identity\, ecological unease\, and the complexities of inner life. \nSpanning diverse cultural backgrounds and artistic traditions\, the exhibition presents a rich constellation of perspectives that move fluidly between the real and the imagined. Drawing on personal narratives\, collective histories\, and symbolic languages\, the featured works transform familiar experiences into evocative visual stories where dream and reality intertwine. \nRooted in traditions ranging from folk tales and mythological narratives to Pop Surrealism\, contemporary figuration\, and allegorical fantasy\, the exhibition explores the enduring power of storytelling as a means of understanding both the self and the world. Themes of transformation\, belonging\, resilience\, and wonder emerge through works that are at once deeply personal and universally resonant. \nAcross painting\, drawing\, and mixed media\, the artists create spaces where cultural heritage meets contemporary imagination\, inviting viewers to navigate landscapes populated by memories\, archetypes\, and speculative futures. \nTogether\, these works reveal how mythmaking continues to shape our understanding of the present—offering new ways to process personal experiences\, collective anxieties\, and the ever-changing realities of contemporary life.

SUMMARY:Soho Solos: Mandy Hudson\, James Robert Morrison\, Conor Quinn\, Alice Sheppard Fidler
DESCRIPTION:Great Pulteney Street gallery is delighted to present Soho Solos\, four solo presentations by Soho Open prize winners Mandy Hudson\, James Robert Morrison\, Conor Quinn and Alice Sheppard Fidler. \nSelected from around 100 artists shortlisted for the inaugural Soho Open exhibition\, each of the winning artists returns with a solo presentation in one of the four galleries at GPS. Running concurrently\, the Soho Solos provide a snapshot of the exciting variety of approaches in contemporary art today. \nAlice Sheppard Fidler and Mandy Hudson find inspiration in and give new meaning to discarded\, overlooked and found objects. Whereas Hudson elevates everyday items by arranging them into still lifes\, immortalising them in her paintings\, Sheppard Fidler combines objects and materials into sculptures and installations that shift and evolve in relation to the space they inhabit. \nConor Quinn and James Robert Morrison reclaim memories of secrecy and shame shaped by their experience of growing up gay within heteronormative and adversarial environments. While Quinn combines elements of self portraiture and handmade puppets into surreal oil paintings\, Morrison translates imagery from personal vintage gay pornography into delicate pencil drawings\, using cigarette (fag) papers as a fragile\, unconventional surface. Presented in separate spaces under one roof in Soho\, the four solos come together as a collection of visual short stories.
