SUMMARY:Shamatha: Meditation for Balanced Living
DESCRIPTION:During this day retreat\, co-organised by the CCN and Samadhi\, discover a range of methods for developing meditative quiescence\, or shamatha. \nShamatha is the practice of developing a single-pointed concentration to achieve a calm\, clear\, and focused mind. \nDuring this one-day retreat\, David Oromith will introduce us to both the explanation and the practice of this essential meditation technique. Only when mind agitations are healed and calmed can we really focus and see things as they are? \nThis practice nurtures a state of mind that is simultaneously supple\, profoundly relaxed\, and brilliantly alert\, offering us a much-needed respite from daily life. Through shamata practice\, we let go of physical and mental stress\, fostering mental and emotional balance. These practices\, however\, go beyond temporary relaxation and offer us the methods to cultivate a deep\, enduring sense of tranquility and clarity within ourselves. \nUltimately\, for those following the Buddhist path\, the Buddha strongly emphasised the importance of achieving shamata in order to achieve awakening. Shamatha is\, therefore\, an indispensable practice for those on this path. \nThese practices are accessible to anyone seeking inner transformation—whether Buddhist or not.

SUMMARY:Burns Night Ceilidh
DESCRIPTION:Combining music\, dance\, and a sprinkling of theatrics\, this is ceilidh music as you’ve never seen it before. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a glorious evening as we don the tartan and tam o’shanters\, get that whisky flowing and those floors shaking\, all in celebration of Scotland’s favourite son\, Robert Burns. \n\n\n\nOur very own house band\, the Ceilidh Liberation Front\, will provide the soundtrack to the evening. \n\n\n\nThe Ceilidh Liberation Front is London’s most radical & colourful live band\, subverting the lore of Ceilidh with their energetic folk dance regime. They breathe vigour and vivetality into the traditional ceilidh whilst honouring its roots and traditions. \n\n\n\nGet ready to pay homage to ol’ Rabbie Burns in a rowdy\, rebellious evening of song and dance! \n\n\n\nDrams will be raised\, sporrans polished\, lassies toasted\, dosies do’ed\, and willows stripped! Bring your squeeze\, bring your kilt\, bring your granny\, and don’t forget your dancing shoes. \n\n\n\nThe Nest Collective invites you to celebrate Scotland’s finest in style. \n\n\n\nOpen to dancers of all abilities (no experience necessary!) \n\n\n\nAll are welcome at this event – groups\, pairs or solo bookings. A delicious haggis dinner (with veggie alternative) will be available to buy on the night\, and we’ll have a full whisky bar too. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDress code: \n\n\n\nThere is no dress code for this event; kilted and un-kilted are all welcome. Come as splendid as you like! Grand Junction has a strict no-heels policy for this event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur audiences say: \n\n\n\n“Lovely people\, great calling and choice of dances\, friendly (and good value) bar\, excellent band” – 2022 attendee \n\n\n\n“Highlight was all of the dancing\, but particularly stripping the willow with the lights on seeing all of those wonderful smiles! Also\, how much my face hurt from smiling all evening!!!” – 2022 attendee \n\n\n\n“I was so happy to be amongst so many great people enjoying life in an amazing venue with a soundtrack to match. This event has given me such a personal lift\, so thank you so much!” – 2022 attendee.
