SUMMARY:Turning Earth Ceramics Winter Market
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Ceramics Markets\, a showcase with over 200 different makers over four days. We’ll be in Leyton studio on November 23rd and 24th and in Highgate studio on December 7th and 8th. \nWhether you’re a returning pottery lover or a curious newcomer\, the markets offer something for everyone: browse the one-of-a-kind pieces\, meet the makers behind the masterpieces\, and discover why this mindful craft is so popular in the city.  \nThere will be street food\, from freshly baked sourdough pizza to BBQ delicacies and hot dogs. We’ll have festive drinks to warm you up in cold weather\, from local craft beer to mulled wine\, barista coffees\, or soft drinks if you prefer to keep it chilled. Last but not least\, there will be live music to add an extra dose of festive cheer to the atmosphere.   \nThere will be live wheel-throwing demos on all four market days\, so you can get up close and see lumps of clay transform into beautiful pottery. For anyone who would like to get hands-on with clay\, there will be drop-in workshops at the Leyton market on November 23rd and 24th.  \nDuring the Leyton Market\, our neighbours will also open their doors for the Argall Ave Open Studios\, which will feature fine woodwork businesses\, a bamboo bicycle maker\, and food and drinks from the local Pavilion Bakery and Ha Noi Cafe. \nOn Sunday\, November 24th\, the makers of the East End Trades Guild will also join us to add handcrafted goods other than ceramics.  \nEach year\, Turning Earth makers donate special pieces and seconds to raise money for organisations that reflect Turning Earth’s vision of building a community with open arms. This year\, we’re supporting the potters and craftspeople affected by the recent hurricanes in the Southeast US through the charity CERF+.

SUMMARY:Shamatha: Meditation for Balanced Living
DESCRIPTION:During this day retreat\, co-organised by the CCN and Samadhi\, discover a range of methods for developing meditative quiescence\, or shamatha. \nShamatha is the practice of developing a single-pointed concentration to achieve a calm\, clear\, and focused mind. \nDuring this one-day retreat\, David Oromith will introduce us to both the explanation and the practice of this essential meditation technique. Only when mind agitations are healed and calmed can we really focus and see things as they are? \nThis practice nurtures a state of mind that is simultaneously supple\, profoundly relaxed\, and brilliantly alert\, offering us a much-needed respite from daily life. Through shamata practice\, we let go of physical and mental stress\, fostering mental and emotional balance. These practices\, however\, go beyond temporary relaxation and offer us the methods to cultivate a deep\, enduring sense of tranquility and clarity within ourselves. \nUltimately\, for those following the Buddhist path\, the Buddha strongly emphasised the importance of achieving shamata in order to achieve awakening. Shamatha is\, therefore\, an indispensable practice for those on this path. \nThese practices are accessible to anyone seeking inner transformation—whether Buddhist or not.

SUMMARY:Skip the Small Talk at The Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Bring your friends (or come by yourself- most people do!) and spend your Wednesday night at an event where you know everyone else is there for the same reason. \nWe’ll be offering “big talk” conversational prompts on them to get you started\, and we’ll have lots of structure to make sure that you actually talk to people and that it’s not awkward. Not feeling like answering a particular question? No worries\, we’ll have plenty to choose from\, like\, “When are you the happiest?” and\, “If you were going to become close friends with me\, what would I need to know about you?” We’ll give you ground rules to make sure you feel comfortable and safe sharing as much of yourself as possible while still feeling in complete control of how much you divulge.
