SUMMARY:Noisy World - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:With simple line drawings of ordinary objects and mundane moments\, Perfect outlines an alternative vision to the competitive pursuit of perfectionism in modern society. \nAs though retrieved from a surreal flower press\, people\, plants and vessels are presented flattened and slightly out of shape; multiple minimalist selves cross architectural and art historical references; impressions of unrelated scenes captured on paper. \nWith each drawing a gentle act of rebellion\, against colour theory and perspective\, against hierarchies between foreground and background\, humans and things\, Noisy World celebrates the humane and humorous aspects of everyday life. \nGallery opening hours:\nSaturdays 10 am – 4 pm\nSundays 12 noon – 4 pm

SUMMARY:Soho Solos: Mandy Hudson\, James Robert Morrison\, Conor Quinn\, Alice Sheppard Fidler
DESCRIPTION:Great Pulteney Street gallery is delighted to present Soho Solos\, four solo presentations by Soho Open prize winners Mandy Hudson\, James Robert Morrison\, Conor Quinn and Alice Sheppard Fidler. \nSelected from around 100 artists shortlisted for the inaugural Soho Open exhibition\, each of the winning artists returns with a solo presentation in one of the four galleries at GPS. Running concurrently\, the Soho Solos provide a snapshot of the exciting variety of approaches in contemporary art today. \nAlice Sheppard Fidler and Mandy Hudson find inspiration in and give new meaning to discarded\, overlooked and found objects. Whereas Hudson elevates everyday items by arranging them into still lifes\, immortalising them in her paintings\, Sheppard Fidler combines objects and materials into sculptures and installations that shift and evolve in relation to the space they inhabit. \nConor Quinn and James Robert Morrison reclaim memories of secrecy and shame shaped by their experience of growing up gay within heteronormative and adversarial environments. While Quinn combines elements of self portraiture and handmade puppets into surreal oil paintings\, Morrison translates imagery from personal vintage gay pornography into delicate pencil drawings\, using cigarette (fag) papers as a fragile\, unconventional surface. Presented in separate spaces under one roof in Soho\, the four solos come together as a collection of visual short stories.

SUMMARY:Summer Music in City Churches – ‘Around the World’ – Concerts in the Square Mile
DESCRIPTION:A nine-day celebration of music in the City of London \nSet in the heart of London’s historic Square Mile\, Kestrel Music’s nine-day festival\, Summer Music in City Churches\, returns with a world-class roster of artists taking a musical voyage ‘Around the World’. Hosted across five atmospheric\, acoustically rich churches\, this year’s theme explores music inspired by cities\, landscapes and traditions. From traditional song and jazz arrangements\, to lush choral harmonies and orchestral favourites\, the programme celebrates sounds of town and country\, both at home and abroad. \nGuest artists are drawn from the finest musicians and collaborative partnerships performing internationally today\, including Rachel Nicholls and Michael Dussek\, Lucy Parham with Juliet Stevenson\, Mark Bebbington with Alistair McGowan\, and Iain Farrington’s jazz trio. Joining them will be multi-talented duo Eleanor Grant and Gus McQuade\, and young singers from Hackney Choral. A wealth of chamber music further enriches the programme\, with lunchtime performances by Brother Tree Sound\, Tier3 Trio\, Cassatt Trio\, and Sonas Quartet. \nOpening the festival\, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Gergely Madaras conjure the Mediterranean warmth of Spain and Italy in works by Rossini\, Ravel and Mendelssohn. They are joined by guitarist Jack Hancher\, 2022 Royal Overseas League Gold Medalist and EuroStrings Artist\, as soloist in Rodrigo’s evocative Concierto de Aranjuez. \nThere are opportunities to hear the City of London Choir led by Daniel Hyde on two contrasting occasions performances; as part of a Festival Choral Evensong in the grand tradition of British cathedrals\, and to celebrate traditional song rooted in the land – from George Shearing’s jazz settings to Elgar in Bavaria\, in the festival’s delightful finale\, ‘Islands and Highlands’. \nSummer Music in City Churches was founded in 2018\, presenting beautiful music to engage\, divert and inspire\, in ancient and architecturally stunning churches in London’s Square Mile. Standing cheek by jowl with City offices\, these churches are glorious settings in which to listen and reflect: oases of history\, beauty and peace amidst the 24-7 hurly-burly of City life. \nFurther information and how to book \nFull programme\, venues\, timings and ticket sales can be found on the website. \nTicket prices range from £15 to £35\, with half-price discounts available for students and those under 25. For those wishing to attend multiple events\, a festival season ticket provides excellent value at £120. \n(Photo of Royal Philharmonic Orchestra by Ben Wright)

SUMMARY:The Art of Mini Golf - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of rebellion and play for the curious\, the competitive\, and anyone bold enough to swing outside the lines.\nPlay your way through nine adventurous mini-golf holes\, each designed by a leading woman artist\, as you explore the game’s subversive history. \nArtist\, filmmaker and writer Miranda July (All Fours) goes ‘All Fores’ for the project. Kaylene Whiskey sets course with pop icons woven through Anangu culture. Tokyo’s Saeborg unleashes latex creatures of cartoonish menace\, Delaine Le Bas squares the circle\, and Natasha Tontey entwines speculative storytelling with mythology\, technology\, and alternative histories. Atlanta rapper BKTHERULA joins sound artist Kate Miller to make swamp flowers bloom. Australian duo Soda Jerk open an algorithmic K-hole\, and prolific photographer Pat Brassington dives headfirst. \nOnly the most audacious artists are here because mini golf itself was born of rebellion. The game was originally invented by 19th-century Scottish women who were banned from ‘real’ courses but refused to sit on the sidelines. \nPick your putter. It’s art that fills the cup.

It is a full-length symphonic portrait by a 12-year-old composer whose music engages directly with some of the defining questions of our age: nature\, war\, artificial intelligence\, and the future of humanity. \nPerformed by the London City Philharmonic Orchestra\, with Carey himself on stage throughout — as pianist\, marimbaist\, and the artistic voice behind every note. \nABOUT THE COMPOSER \nCarey Tan is a 12-year-old composer and multi-instrumentalist\, and a recipient of both the King’s Scholarship and Music Scholarship at Eton College. He has long focused on the creation of large-scale orchestral works\, distinguished by expansive structures\, clear narrative direction\, and profound intellectual depth. His music transforms philosophical reflection\, scientific imagination\, and a concern for contemporary realities into a symphonic language of striking modern expressiveness. With a creative vision of remarkable maturity and individuality\, he is increasingly attracting attention within the international classical music world. \nABOUT THE ORCHESTRA \nThe London City Philharmonic Orchestra presents symphonic and operatic repertoire in major UK and international venues. The orchestra is committed to supporting contemporary music and new large-scale works\, regularly collaborating with emerging composers and soloists. \nOlsi Qinami is Principal Conductor and Music Director of the London City Philharmonic Orchestra\, Conductor with the National Radio Television Orchestra of Albania\, and Professor of Conducting at the University of Arts in Tirana. He conducts widely across Europe and maintains a strong commitment to contemporary orchestral repertoire. \nTickets:  https://careytan.eventbrite.co.uk

SUMMARY:A Professorial Lecture by Professor Ioannis S. Pantelidis
DESCRIPTION:“Hospitality as a regenerative force for human connection\, wellbeing and leadership” \nIn this lecture\, Professor Ioannis S. Pantelidis examines the changing landscape of hospitality and tourism and shows how the sector can create regenerative ecosystems through innovation\, behaviour and human-centred leadership. Intelligent systems\, data-driven personalisation and rising experiential expectations are transforming service environments\, yet the true source of excellence remains the human touch. Hospitality cultivates empathy\, cultural awareness\, agility and the practical art of caring for others. These qualities strengthen leadership across health\, business\, transport\, the creative industries and every area where human interaction shapes success. At a time when isolation and mental health concerns are increasing\, the values of hospitality become even more significant. Warm service\, genuine welcome and meaningful moments support emotional well-being and deepen social connection. Drawing on research\, education and lived experience\, Professor Pantelidis offers an optimistic and thought-provoking vision of a sector that continues to evolve while remaining rooted in human values that can guide society toward stronger communities and more compassionate leadership.

SUMMARY:Alison Cotton + Ecka Mordecai Concert
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nALISON COTTON\nECKA MORDECAI\nWednesday 1 July\nThe Old Church\, Church St\, Stoke Newington\, London\, N16 9ES\n7.30pm | £15 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/z09756e9c72e \nALISON COTTON is a London-based composer\, vocalist\, and multi-instrumentalist whose music centres on viola\, harmonium\, and layered vocal drones. Originally from Sunderland\, she first emerged in the UK underground in bands including Saloon\, The Eighteenth Day of May\, and more recently\, The Left Outsides before beginning her solo career in 2018. Her debut\, All Is Quiet at the Ancient Theatre introduced her long-form\, place-inspired approach to composition. This was followed with Only Darkness Now and The Portrait You Painted of Me\, both acclaimed for their immersive atmospheres and emotional depth. All three albums appeared in The Quietus’ End of Year lists\, with Only Darkness Now topping their New Weird Britain chart and The Portrait You Painted of Me was also Folk Record of the Month in The Guardian. \nIn 2024\, Cotton released Engelchen\, a work inspired by the lives of Ida and Louise Cook and their efforts to help refugees escape Nazi Germany. The album deepened her interest in narrative composition\, blending historical research with her distinctive drone-based sound. Her records have been released by Rocket Recordings\, Feeding Tube Records\, Cardinal Fuzz\, Bloxham Tapes and Clay Pipe Music. Cotton continues to explore drone\, experimental folk\, and narrative forms\, establishing herself as a singular voice in contemporary experimental music. For this show Cotton will be playing music from a new album and will be accompanied by Mark Nicholas on percussion\, harmonium and synths. \nECKA MORDECAI is an artist based in London. Situated between sonic\, performative and olfactory disciplines\, her work is driven by sensation: entwining cello\, horsehair harp\, voice\, eggflute\, scent and improvisation into time-based objects expressive of emotional complexity.
