SUMMARY:Arabian Moucharabieh
DESCRIPTION:Lawrie Shabibi present a series of recent paintings by Moroccan artist Mohamed Melehi.\nThe presentation includes eight artworks from his Moucharabieh (2020) series\, reminiscent of his bold graphic compositions from the early 1970’s\, where he produced the now-familiar wave motif in block colours\, yet now on a much grander scale. The motif of the wave is\, for Melehi\, all about movement and change. It is as much about electromagnetic radiation as it is about water\, and when vertical it becomes a flame. The Moucharabieh (2020) series strips away the waves to their bare essentials – they become all-over diagonal compositions – giving emphasis to the curved line\, hyper-graphism and a clear chromatic palette.

SUMMARY:Litehouse Gallery presents Home: Contemporary Stories Through Artists’ Eyes
DESCRIPTION:This pop-up exhibition is an immediate response to the recent tragic blast in Beirut’s port that destroyed thousands of houses\, leaving thousands of Syrian and Lebanese people homeless. \nThe exhibition will take you on a journey that crosses borders in search of a transnational identity that is multi-layered\, at times displaced\, yet intact and coherent. The stories and artworks are lyrical metaphors of the artist’s current circumstances\, everyday experiences and dreams of homecoming\, whilst raising questions about the elsewhere and the space in-between places. \nHome is a feeling. Home is a landscape and a vision of our intimate being and desires. Home is co-creating with others a shared sense of belonging. This group show explores these themes with the aim of rediscovering the roots of a common culture\, at the same time as offering a place and a space where artists can express their cultural identity and belonging. \nHome: Contemporary Stories Through Artists’ Eye is a rare opportunity to view artworks by our Syrian and British artists. \nThrough the transformative power of art we can transcend dislocation\, transform the pain of physical exile\, resolve the contradiction of past and present\, and overcome instability\, dispossession and loss. Home is where the Art is.\nOrganised by – The Litehouse Gallery\, Director Raghad Mardini \nArtworks by Artists – Shadi Abu Saada\, Heba Akkad\, Farah Azrak\, Tamman Azzam\, Adel Daoud\, Assem Hamsho\, Fadi Hamwi\, Mohamad Labash\, Ghylan Safaldi\, Iman Hasban\, Adib Fattal\, Noha Zayed\, Chris Ward\, Mima Liddawi \nVisiting – Free entrance\, only 6 people at a time\, the venue is not accessible to wheel chair\, don’t forget your mask! \nFor more images\, and all press queries –\ninfo@litehousegallery.co.uk +44 (0)7497 10 66 76 \nThe Litehouse Gallery is a platform that engages with new ideas\, perspectives and audiences to bridge British and Syrian cultures through collaborative educational programs and workshops with the international Syrian art community and British artists and audiences. It is the leading UK gallery representing Syrian artists.

SUMMARY:"The Desperate Journey"
DESCRIPTION:  \nLone figures appear standing wrapped in silver and gold blankets against moody grey skies while exhausted faces\, framed by their life jackets\, look pleading out from the canvas. These exquisitely detailed\, poignant paintings are the work of Ethiopian artist Tewodros Hagos\, inspired by contemporary journalistic imagery and footage of the ongoing migrant crisis. Entitled The Desperate Journey\, the artist’s solo exhibition at Kristin Hjellegjerde’s Wandsworth space in London explores issues of voyeurism and othering in the face of human tragedy.

SUMMARY:Strategic Supply-Chain Management for Pharma and Biologics MasterClass
DESCRIPTION:Supply-chain management is now front and centre in the Pharma industry\, as the CoVid-19 pandemic has revealed major shortcomings in response\, flexibility and availability of products and materials. This training takes a strategic view of much needed improvements\, tracing back to the early stages of drug development that often lead to issues in the future. It then explains how an integrated approach to the disciples of supply-chain management\, across the product lifecycle\, can lead to major improvements in quality\, cost\, and service performance. A key aspect is to provide delegates with practice in mapping and detecting pitfalls in their supply-chains\, and how to implement  improvements\, via a case study ‘Perfect Pills and Potions’.

SUMMARY:The Howl & The Hum
DESCRIPTION:Following the successful release of their debut album Human Contact on AWAL\, this is the breakthrough year for the euphoric folk-pop group. \nAt the heart of The How and The Hum is a strong song-writing core and an inventive\, progressive use of the guitar. Likened to Massive Attack\, Radiohead and Alt-J\, they’ve received strong press support for their wonderfully ambitious lyrics and deeply emotional vocals. \nWith their debut inspired by personal connections and shared relationships\, its fitting that they can return to the stage once more for a delayed but spell-binding celebration of this highly-regarded album.

SUMMARY:Fela Kuti's Birthday with Bukky Leo & Black Egypt Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fela’s former bandmate Bukky Leo and his Black Egypt collective honour the life and legacy of a musical icon. \nA pioneer of the afrobeat genre\, Fela gifted the world songs like ‘Beasts of No Nation’\, ‘Zombie’ and ‘Water Get No Enemy’. \nBukky himself is undoubtedly one of the most important afrobeat musicians alive today. His ‘Felabration’ show here in Camden two years ago\, paying homage to the great man’s music\, was such a hit that we felt we needed to bring Bukky back for more of the same.

SUMMARY:Executions - Opening
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nExplore the history of public execution in London at this landmark new exhibition – opening on 16 October 2020 \n\n\n\nPublic executions were a major part of Londoners’ lives for centuries. More frequent in London than in any other town\, these morbid spectacles attracted thousands of onlookers at locations across the capital. \n\n\n\nFrom Smithfield to Southwark\, from Banqueting House to Newgate Prison\, executions became embedded in London’s landscape and people’s lives. Even today\, hints of this uncomfortable past can still be seen across the city. \n\n\n\nFrom October\, the Museum of London is bringing the lives and legacies of those who died and those who witnessed executions first hand to a major new exhibition. Executions will use a range of fascinating objects\, paintings and projections\, including the vest said to have been worn by King Charles I when he was executed\, to show how entwined this form of punishment is in the history of London. It will also reveal the rarely told human stories behind these events\, looking at the role not just royalty but all Londoners played as both spectators and participants. \n\n\n\nThis is your chance to discover how over nearly 700 years\, public executions came to shape the city we know today. \nTickets

SUMMARY:Jay Phelps Album Launch
DESCRIPTION:Prominent Canadian trumpeter and renowned band leader and educator Jay Phelps presents his fifth album Live at The Cockpit\, followed by a live performance of his high-octane headline show from last year’s London Latin Jazz Festival: Afro-Cubanismo. \nRecorded in 2018 for the first ever J to Z show for BBC 3\, it was curated at The Cockpit Theatre with help from Jez Nelson and Chris Philips and their famed ‘Jazz in the Round’ show. It’s fitting that we can now celebrate its release in person\, with the live atmosphere heard on the recording harking back to more normal times. \nJay’s relentless energy and excitement has also led to other interesting projects\, namely a Cuban-centric headline show at London Latin Jazz Festival in 2019. He’ll be re-uniting this highly-praised show to cap off an incredible evening of music.

DESCRIPTION:The heavy music group from Liverpool have emerged as one of the most exciting in Britain. Pioneering a creative new approach with their eclectic mix of sound and atmospheric live shows\, this must-see band will take you on a journey through metallic belters\, heartfelt melodies and back again. \nTheir second album I Let It in and It Took Everything is responsible for the recent fuss\, leading to comparisons with Deftones for their refusal to be shackled by musical boundaries. Fusing shoegazey\, ambient soundscapes with metallic crunch and hardcore they’re unlike anyone else on the scene in Britain. Many regard them as the future of UK metal\, paving the way to making heavy music mainstream again.

SUMMARY:The Techniques Shaping Japanese Textiles
DESCRIPTION:The Embassy of Japan in the UK hosts an exhibition that explores the influence of Japanese textiles in the UK. \nBy presenting eight artists who together have mastered weaving\, dyeing\, embroidery and stitching techniques\, this exhibition proves the vibrancy of Japan-inspired craft in this country. Each artist has their own special story and connection with their craft but when viewed as a whole\, their work shows careful consideration towards environmental concerns and the importance of preserving the legacy of textile art in the future.
