DESCRIPTION:The Czech Centre London has partnered with Prague’s Švanda Theatre and theaitre.com to present to the UK public an innovate project entitled ‘AI: When a Robot Writes a Play’ created by a team of computer scientists and drama experts led by a computational linguist. \n\n\n\nThe play\, telling a story of joy and sorrow of everyday life from a robot’s point of view\, is composed of dialogues generated by artificial intelligence to celebrate 100th anniversary of the premiere of Czech playwright Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R. in which the word ‘robot’ was first used.The 60-minute play will be performed in Czech with English subtitles and followed by a debate with artificial intelligence and theatre experts which will seek to answer the question of whether a robot can write a theatre play and thus pass the most difficult Turing test to date. The debate will be translated into English for international audiences.The event will be streamed live on the Czech Centre London’s Facebook page and on http://www.theaitre.com \n\n\n\nABOUT THE PROJECT \n\n\n\nTomáš Studeník\, Czech radical innovator\, came up with the idea to celebrate the centenary of the premiere of Čapek’s play\, originally staged in Prague in January 1921\, by replacing Čapek by artificial intelligence as the playwright. The project was created in cooperation with the Švanda Theatre\, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University and the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The aim has been to explore how artificial intelligence actually performs in a human creative discipline and how much it is able to create a usable theatrical script. \n\n\n\nDrama expert David Košťák who\, together with computer scientists\, oversaw the entire process\, reveals the beginning of the project when the language model was given basic parameters: who and where and two introductory replicas. These were then further developed by the computer. But as a lifeless beginner playwright\, the robot needed help from humans. ‘Sometimes it swapped female and male characters or clung to something irrelevant so the dialogue lost its meaning. And there is one more obstacle the robot is having difficulties with so far – the subtext. DESCRIPTION:HTC is celebrating the launch of the VIVE Cosmos\, its latest premium PC-based Virtual Reality (VR) system\, and has teamed up with BBC Studios to offer Doctor Who fans the chance to embark on an adventure with the Doctor by stepping into the legendary TARDIS (spoiler: it’s bigger on the inside) \nOn Friday 27th and Saturday 28th September\, visitors to the Protein Studios experience in Hackney will be fully immersed in the sci-fi world of Doctor Who through the riveting new VR experience ‘Doctor Who: The Edge of Time’. \nAttendees will be amongst the first to try ‘Doctor Who: The Edge of Time’ \, produced by Maze Theory for BBC Studios\, and have the chance to take up the role of the Doctor’s assistant. After stepping into the TARDIS\, players will interact with the Doctor themselves and will try to pilot the spacecraft – which is temperamental at the best of times – before embarking on an epic adventure to solve the mystery behind the ‘Reality Virus’. \nDuring the event\, visitors will use HTC’s newly released VR headset\, the VIVE Cosmos\, which is built to be the highest performance and most versatile headset on the market. \nEach 30 minute slot will include a 15 minute experience. This month’s Science Museum theme: Chinese New Year – find out more about the latest science and emerging technology in China\, and discover how its people celebrate the new year. \nProgramme: \n4.00-6.45pm    Optional pre-meet nearby – details tbc \n6.45-7.15pm    Meet & greet in the Energy Cafe (Level 0\, next to the gift shop) this is where we’ll plan our itinerary for the evening as well as sharing news of events\, projects\, resources that support the teaching of #Computing in school and #DigitalMaking. It provides a chance for you to grab a drink or byte to eat. If you have something interesting to share\, please bring it with you – but it will need to pass the security checks at the entrance! \n7.15-9.00pm Walkabout –    We’ll wander around together\, exploring the different talks\, activities and demonstrations throughout the evening. If you refer to the programme released a day or two beforehand on the Science Museum website\, you’ll be able to see what’s on offer and help us plan our itinerary for the evening. Sometimes when the theme of the evening does not have strong links to Computing\, we plan our own activities. \n9pm+ Departure – the Science Museum remains open until 9.45pm\, but choose to leave around 9pm or earlier\, particularly when it’s a school day the following day. So stay for as little or long as you wish. \nOn the last Wednesday of every month (except December)\, the Science Museum closes at 6pm and then re-opens again from 6.45pm until 10:00pm for “Lates”\, an evening packed full of talks\, demonstrations and hands-on activities.
