SUMMARY:Fly Fishing - for Emergency Funds 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Annual Kids for Kids’ Executive Fly Fishing Day 2025 will take place at Park Lake\, Albury\, on Saturday\, 11th\, October! \nThe Duke of Northumberland’s private lake will be stocked with trout and if you have never tasted trout straight from the water to your plate then you have no idea how delicious it is. Of course\, you will have to catch it first – but we will provide people to help you! This very special\, secluded lake provides the perfect day out for the family\, a chance to hang with the lads by the lake\, or a fun way to entertain your out-of-town clients\, showing them the beauty of Guildford! Delicious refreshments will be provided throughout the day\, from homemade cakes to lunch with wine and beer. \nWe look forward to welcoming you all – beginners and experienced fisherman alike! \nThis Fly Fishing Day is one of the most special Fishing opportunities you can be part of because every penny raised in profit will help Kids for Kids provide basic essentials to children in Darfur who are in desperate need. The violence over the past 23 months has been far worse than anything we have experienced over the years. Darfur continues to face bitter conflict\, and the indirect effects of violence are almost worse – disease and starvation. Hunger in this century. We are providing sacks of seed for planting and Kids’ Kitchen Kits for families with small children\, which include pulses\, lentils\, powdered meat\, ground nuts and even fresh produce. Children have been deprived of protein for months. By attending our fishing day\, you will enable us to reach many more families. They really need you\, need us\, right now. \nBy joining us on our fishing day out this year\, you can help transform the lives of families in great need. Not to mention\, enjoy a magnificent day at Park Lake\, which is utterly beautiful – and ours for the day! \nYour Ticket Options: \nFull Day tickets (9.30 am to dusk) @ £150 each (min. donation) to include breakfast\, morning coffee & homemade cakes\, lunch with wine and beer\, and finally\, afternoon tea (more homemade cakes!). All drinks are available throughout. \nAM session only (9.30 am to 12:30 pm\, including lunch) @ £85 each (min. donation) to include breakfast\, morning coffee & homemade cakes and lunch with wine and beer. All drinks are available throughout. \nPM session only (12.30 pm lunch ’til dusk) @ £85 each (min. donation) to include lunch with wine and beer and afternoon tea with homemade cakes. All drinks are available throughout. \n“It is nothing short of miraculous that Kids for Kids is actively helping families in Darfur. To date 4\,000 families with children aged five and under have received seeds to eat and to plant for crops – that is 24\,000 people we have helped so far. Yet we must think of the coming months\, not just of immediate needs. Please do put our Fly Fishing in your calendar and tell your friends – make a day of it! Your help in raising essential funds for food this year is invaluable. Thank you.” – Patricia Parker\, OBE Founder. \nN.B. Children (minimum age 10) must be accompanied by a fully paying adult. Because of the limited space on the banks\, children also have to pay full price. The first fish you catch will be yours to keep! There will be a small charge for any additional fish you wish to take home. Sunglasses or glasses and brimmed hats or caps must be worn by everyone. Health and safety is our first concern but you are advised to fish at your own risk.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Lost & Found in Hong Kong - Chelsea History Festival
DESCRIPTION:In 2015\, a group of history enthusiasts stumbled upon a diary in a soon-to-be-demolished building in Hong Kong. The diary belonged to Lam Ping-yu\, one of 24 naval officers sent to Britain for training during the Second World War. As their first mission in Europe\, many took part in the D-Day Landings\, as well as the Allied liberation of southern France. \nAt the time of its discovery\, Lam’s diary was the only known primary source on Chinese participation during D-Day. It reveals numerous first-hand stories about the realities of war\, featuring countless depictions of excitement\, frustration\, envy and even romance. \nIn 1945\, Lam also took part in Operation Armour\, devised by the British government to alleviate the dire situation in Japanese-occupied Hong Kong. His writings provide us with a glimpse into the city’s post-war recovery. \nAs we mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War\, come and visit the Soane Stable Yard to discover this fascinating area of military history\, told through stories\, objects and multimedia displays. \nThe exhibition is curated by Angus Hui and John Mak. Angus is an award-winning journalist-turned-historian. He holds an MPhil from the University of Cambridge and specialises in modern Chinese history and Hong Kong culture and heritage. John is a public policy professional\, who is an inaugural Obama Scholar\, Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia honouree\, and an Asia 21 Next Generation Fellow of Asia Society.

SUMMARY:Voices from the Amazon: our stories\, our solutions
DESCRIPTION:Voices from the Amazon: our stories\, our solutions \nCasa Kayeb was designed by Amazonians to uplift Amazonian voices during the London Action Climate Week (LACW). \nWe have invited Amazonian voices from different parts of the region to talk about their views ahead of COP30\, which will take place in November in Belem. \nIt’s an opportunity for international audiences to listen to the perspectives of those directly impacted by the climate emergency\, who are developing technologies in their territories to postpone the end of the world and protect the future of the Amazon region. \nWe are delivering this event with COP 30 Committee\, a coalition created by Amazonian organisations that aims to expand and strengthen advocacy in local\, national and international climate conferences and forums. It aims to secure greater commitment from governments for the demands of those from\, living\, and working\, in the Amazon territory. \nCome join us at Rich Mix for an inspiring event featuring stories and solutions from the Amazon. Hear firsthand accounts from indigenous communities and environmental activists working to protect this vital ecosystem. Learn about sustainable practices and initiatives making a difference in the region. Connect with like-minded individuals and be part of the conversation on how we can support Amazonian people to protect the forest. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the change! \nRefreshments (coffee and tea) will be provided from 9.30am to 5pm. \nThis event is only possible due to the collaboration of key organisations that believe in our work to uplift the voices of individuals and organisations from the Amazon region. A special thanks to The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ)\, the Latin-American Bureau (LAB)\, and the COP30 Committee. \nPlease follow @kayeb_amazonia to keep informed of our events and discussions.

SUMMARY:Laugh to Keep the Lights on!
DESCRIPTION:Ever since Sunday Assembly was founded – by two comedians – our three tenets have included Live Better and Wonder More. (We’ll get to the other tenet later.) Comedy nights are great for both: the uplift of shared laughter and the marvel of well-crafted comedy. \nOur host is James Ross\, whose Quantum Leopard comedy nights have won awards for showcasing stand-up that doesn’t punch down. He’s put together a fabulous line-up for us: \n\nMark Thomas: Mark’s been performing comedy on stage and screen for over 35 years. He mixes theatre\, journalism and the odd bout of performance art\nBen Pope: From Cambridge Footlights to Edinburgh Fringe to London clubs\, Ben’s been called ‘one of the best storytellers in comedy’\nJamie Mykaela: A comedy-cabaret artist who’s been described as ‘bawdy\, brassy\, vulnerable and intense’\, with performances fuelled by 12 years of opera training\nAlex Franklin: Acclaimed in 2024 for being ‘winningly weird’\, Alex’s performances have blended musical comedy\, science and the joy of being trans\n\nHow much will it cost you to take in all that incredible talent? Just £15\, or £10 if you’re on a low income or precariously employed. We must be having a laugh. (Did we already say that?) \nHere are the details for this non-Sunday spectacular: \nEvery penny will go to Sunday Assembly London\, at a time when we really need it to ensure we have a future. So while you’re laughing to keep our lights on\, you’ll be upholding our other tenet: Help Often. And we’ll be so grateful to you. \nAll line ups subject to change.\nTickets are non refundable.

SUMMARY:Water and Climate Change: 10 Things You Should Know
DESCRIPTION:Hear four speakers passionately discuss the implications of our changing world on a key area. Climate Change and water are intertwined\, from flooding and drought\, to increased demand and varying quality. \nWe’re looking at the 10 key changes you need to know: what we are already experiencing\, alongside what to expect in the coming years\, and the positive ways scientists and engineers are building resilience.. \nWe’ll examine the science behind attribution; what is the evidence that individual extreme flooding events – both inland and coastal – were affected by Climate Change? \nHow can we become more resilient in a changing world to extreme weather events and how does the artistic community work with scientists to communicate their work?

Last but not least\, there will be live music to add an extra dose of festive cheer to the atmosphere.   \nThere will be live wheel-throwing demos on all four market days\, so you can get up close and see lumps of clay transform into beautiful pottery. For anyone who would like to get hands-on with clay\, there will be drop-in workshops at the Leyton market on November 23rd and 24th.  \nDuring the Leyton Market\, our neighbours will also open their doors for the Argall Ave Open Studios\, which will feature fine woodwork businesses\, a bamboo bicycle maker\, and food and drinks from the local Pavilion Bakery and Ha Noi Cafe. \nOn Sunday\, November 24th\, the makers of the East End Trades Guild will also join us to add handcrafted goods other than ceramics.  \nEach year\, Turning Earth makers donate special pieces and seconds to raise money for organisations that reflect Turning Earth’s vision of building a community with open arms.
