SUMMARY:Music for the Mind Vol. 1 – Reboot with us
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the first volume of Music for the Mind\, the fundraising event series that helps young musicians and creatives to reboot their careers and their optimism. \nBy purchasing tickets you support mental health charities. The ticket link is here. https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/stagewave/t-odrqqp \nMusic is who we are. Music is what we are living for. No wonder why this last one year was tough to deal with: while gigs and festivals were canceled\, many musicians were fighting a war for their mental health. We created Music for the Mind events for those who feel like they could use some energy\, knowledge and community support. Come and have a chill networking night with a cocktail\, some good music and music industry talks that will help you reboot your career. \nLineup:\nGates open at 18:00.\n18:30 – The night will start with inspiring live music from the soulful acoustic performer\, Natalie Lindi.\n19:00 – The first industry talk is from Hugo Kibasi\, production manager of Printworks. He will talk about his journey building his own company in the live music festival scene.\n19:30 – Speaker of Samaritans talks about the importance of mental health and ways to get help.\n19:45 – Gabriella Kemeny PR Consultant specialised in artists. Her topic is how you can build your brand and create a sustainable business of your passion.\n20:15 – Finally we will have blues-indie rock performer Eleni Drake with a bunch of positive and beautiful energies. \nDuring the night there will be time for networking with your peers\, freelancers\, artists and musicians. Don’t miss out on the chance to talk to them\, they may be your lucky stars! \nYOU’RE MORE RELEVANT THAN YOU THINK. We find it very important to show that nobody is alone with their bad feelings and anxiety\, with their fear of the future. We ask you to share your feelings on Instagram and Facebook about the world reopening\, about the last one and a half year\, with the hashtag of #musicforthemindfeelings . We will project these writings on a screen during the night (anonymously) so all participants can see that we all feel similar things right now. \n—-\nAbout the fundraising: \nIn these difficult times luckily there are charities that deeply care about us. Samaritans are there for us to give emotional support anytime when we are going through hard times\, YoungmindsUK’s dream is to live in a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health. They already helped us so much: it’s time to give back. By purchasing the ticket you support their work. You can also donate here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=ThisisEmpathy&pageUrl=1\nWe aim to collect £5000 by the end of the summer.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibition - Voice Of Women Project - KYK
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibition – Notting Hill\nArtist ‘Karis Yves Knight’ is delighted to present an exhibition opening in West London on the 23rd-30th of August on Portobello Road. The exhibition celebrates and recognises women’s voices from a multitude of backgrounds and lifestyles\, represented through abstract\, highly colourful and visual portraiture artworks.\nThe ‘Voice of Women Project’\, which runs from the 23-30th of August\, brings ecstatic vibrancy and colour to the J/M Gallery in Notting Hill – running on the weekend of what would be Notting Hill carnival. With leading female figures in the TV & Film industries depicted and those across a multitude of lifestyles and backgrounds\, the exhibition aims to represent all women from all walks of life. Each portrait sold provides a 25% donation to a chosen charity from the portrayed woman. \nThe ‘Voice of Women Project’ (V.O.W) shares women’s voices while creating a space for reflection and community. Artist Karis stated\, “I wanted to create a space for intimate response and relatability\, opening up discussions about the often-overlooked routine struggles of the 21st-century woman. With tragedies such as the Sarah Everard incident highlighting the importance of solidarity and community\, I want this exhibition to help bring women from all walks of life together.” The paintings aim to capture and represent the idea and depiction of women’s values. This is expressed beyond the focus\, which objectifies physical\, sexual bodies and appearances – with the portraits depicting achievements and struggles in a dreamy\, almost psychedelic\, abstract expression. \nArtist Karis also mentioned\, “I realise how amazing and multifaceted we are as humans. This made me reflect on myself as a woman in this world. I feel compelled to use my voice to assist in empowering others and myself.” Book your tickets today for this one-time event to see the latest pieces and charities involved.

On Thursday 9th December at 8 pm\, Smile Train will be launching an hour-long Christmas carols concert – which people across the UK can tune into for free via Smile Train’s website. \nFilmed in the Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair\, as featured in the classic Christmas film\, Love Actually\, the concert will feature festive performances from the Choir of Grosvenor Chapel and a seasonal welcome message from Smile Train UK Director\, Ian Vallance. \nAlong with melodies\, you will hear inspiring stories from the charity’s Ambassadors\, as well as hymns from seven of Smile Train’s patient choirs in Argentina\, Brazil\, Colombia\, Chile\, and Nigeria – made up of children and young people who have benefited from the charity’s cleft care. \nBut wait\, there’s myrrh! Viewers will be treated to a regional update from Smile Train’s programme in the Philippines. This will showcase Smile Train Philippines’ approach to the pandemic\, as well as a look at their recovery as restrictions continue to lift. \nThe concert is free to watch\, but all online donations raised will help the charity to continue providing free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally. \nSo\, cosy up with your loved ones\, pour yourself a steaming mug of hot chocolate or mulled wine\, and tune into Smile Train’s virtual Christmas carol concert to enjoy some Christmas hymns and help change the world one smile at a time. \nThose watching the virtual carol concert are encouraged to share a photo of themselves on social media\, alongside the hashtag #SmileTrainCarolsConcert. \nRoanne Moore\, Carol Concert Curator and Development Manager at Smile Train UK\, says: “After the success of last years’ first virtual Christmas carols concert\, and the continued uncertainty around the pandemic\, we’ve decided to again digitally adapt this years’ annual celebration. \n“We’re so excited to kick off the festive season and put a smile on people’s faces after another turbulent year. So\, dust off your Santa hat\, grab your nearest and dearest and gather round to sing-along to your favourite carols and help spread Christmas cheer.” \nThe Smile Train Christmas carols concert will be taking place on 9th December 2021\, at 8 pm. To RSVP\, visit smiletrain.org.uk/carols. \nFind Smile Train UK on Twitter (@SmiletrainUK) Facebook (@SmileTrainUK) and Instagram (@SmileTrainUK) and use #SmileTrainCarolConcert

SUMMARY:Artist Launches London Exhibition In Support Of Children’s Cleft Charity
DESCRIPTION:Katie Manning\, artist\, and mother of three from Oxford\, is launching an art exhibition in March to raise awareness of cleft and Smile Train UK\, the international children’s cleft charity.\nThe exhibition titled ‘Portraits’ will run from 3rd – 13th March at The Brick Lane Gallery in Bethnal Green\, London. Katie’s hand-drawn collection will display 30 portraits of children born worldwide with a cleft. Some of the children shown in the exhibition have directly benefited from Smile Train’s free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care services\, allowing them to live whole and healthy lives. \nThe exhibition will be Katie’s first since she was a student at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College\, where she studied Textile Art and Surface Decoration. The artist was inspired to embark on the artistic adventure following her family’s own experiences of clefts – her eldest daughter was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate\, and her husband was born with a unilateral cleft. \nA cleft is the most common facial difference globally\, affecting around 1 in 700 babies each year. However\, while supporting her daughter through cleft surgery and subsequent orthodontic work and speech therapy\, Katie noticed that there is still a lot of stigma and misunderstanding associated with a cleft. This often stems from a lack of awareness and knowledge of what a cleft is and how differently it can impact individuals and their families for entire lifetimes. \nIn a bid to tackle this issue\, last year\, Katie committed to hand-drawing 100 portraits of babies\, children and adults born with a cleft. Katie is now launching a ‘preview’ of some of her art\, hoping that it will help raise awareness and increase knowledge creatively and powerfully. \nKatie has also joined Smile Train UK’s Cleft Community Advisory Council\, using lived experience to advise on campaigns and activities and becoming a Smile Train UK ambassador to raise awareness for the charity. Katie is passionate about Smile Train’s work and has set up a dedicated Just Giving page in support of the charity. \nIn the UK\, cleft surgery is carried out within the first 12 months of a baby’s life by the National Health Service (NHS). However\, hundreds of thousands of children living in resource-poor communities worldwide are not as fortunate and do not have access to the lifesaving cleft treatment they desperately need. \nSmile Train uses a unique and sustainable model of empowering local medical professionals and hospitals with the tools they need to complete free surgeries and an entire programme of aftercare. Over the last 21 years\, the charity has supported safe and quality cleft care for 1.5+ million children and will continue to do so until every person in need of a cleft has access to the care they deserve. \nA selection of Katie’s collection will be on sale at The Brick Lane Gallery for a limited time. Entry to the exhibition is free\, and the portraits will be sold at the starting value of £125.00.
